Baked (spicy) cheese and turkey casserole. I wish I had taken better pictures.

Hello soshi. I saw your pm but could you give me a head's up on what you want, thanks. |
Beeyouuuutiffuuulll! Organicfarms, where are you located in Lagos? Do you supply? |
dominique:"Something has to be done"? Sure, But who is going to do the "something"? Us or someone else? If you don't do something and I don't do something and we wait for someone else who doesn't do anything, well, expect that more people's kids are going to grow up grateful to be househelps, stooges and drivers to these politicians' families. Because they will be too poor to afford to do anything. |
rofemiguwa:You wash them all at the same time. Anything diaper related gets washed at the same time, everytime. I wash all diapers, wipes and liners together. And wash clothes separately. The reason i said wash the diapers first is to clean them of anything, just like how you wash baby clothes after buying them. Don't wash your liners since they are the disposable type, start washing them after you use them. Cloth diapers are not stressful just that most people overthink them instead of realising it's exactly like regular baby clothes. |
kotias003:There are some videos on YouTube about latching. Use your nipple to rub against his mouth till he opens up and then roll it in so that more of the bottom of your areola (the dark part) is in his mouth. |
So for the wipes, you can use most cotton fabrics. Even an old t-shirt will work, cut it, double it and sew up the edges. Most efficient type is the Flannel-Terry cloth combo. Flannel, as in receiving blanket and Terry cloth (bath towel fabric) as in baby washcloth. That combo really grabs anything well and is so soft you can use it from birth. My mum, whom is critical of everything, really likes my wipes. We have never gotten poop on our hands when cleaning and I don't have to worry about using too many and wasting, since I will be washing and reusing them. You don't use them dry, they should be wet. People use plain water to clean up. I use a mix of soap and oils. I use baby castile soap (but regular babywash will do), coconut oil and essential oil. Boil water, let it cool down, add a teaspoon of soap, 1 tablespoon of coconut or olive oil or any oil, 5 drops of essential oil (tea tree or lavender because they are antibacterial). Essential oil is really concentrated so only use a few drops and never directly use on skin. Mix them in the water and store in a bottle. I tend to mix maybe every 10 days (you don't want to make too much). And there's no alcohol or synthetic fragrance so it doesnt aggravate rashes. The quantity i have in my pic has lasted 1 year so far and can easily last me 2 more years except for the coconut oil and that's because we use it for other stuff as well. So it does save a bit of money i think. I used N350 disposable wipes and it felt like plastic and the wipes because the packet can't be closed properly, can dry out before use. Tha best disposable wipes I've used were brands which are like N860 per pack. With this, I don't worry about how many I use.
|
rofemiguwa:Depends on how long your waka is. I tend to overpack but most microfiber inserts (which is what you have) can absorb for 4 hours. I don't know about your brand but mine can. However i don't leave it on that long, I change every 2/3 hours (when she was younger, now we do 4 hours without me remembering). So pack like 3 full diapers and 2 extra inserts (assume that baby will poop and you will need to change everything). You probably won't use it all (I have never used up all my diapers on an outing). Yes you wash the liners. Alphahandmaiden should know more about that, because I don't use those type of liners. But I think you do wash them. I was told by someone here that the liners used to be sold at PEP (but no more) and I know they sell them at Mothercare (at least the VI store has it). And for those mums with cotton prefold inserts, or those using old school nappies, they sell really good diapers pins at Shoprite called "Snappi". Pic below.
|
rofemiguwa:Goody. First, wash them all before use. Water should be like 30°c or 40°c max. That is an All-in-2 diaper. The coloured cover (yellow plastic) is what keeps it waterproof (PUL) and from leaking. The inner (white made from either cotton or hemp or bamboo) is the absorbent part(insert). So you attach the absorbent part inside the waterproof (PUL). This diaper works by snapping the button on the insert to the button on the PUL. Got that? Good. The liner goes inside the diaper ontop of the insert. All the liner does is keep baby stay-dry (however your insert is stay-dry insert already) and keep poop from touching the diaper itself. So that when you are changing, you can flush away the liner (with poop). If it is just pee, you can change the diaper, keep the liner and wash all of them. You can rewash the liners a few times if it's just pee before it starts disintergrating. Now, how many inserts do you have? If you have multiple inserts, if the baby is wet, you can change just the insert and re-use the PUL with a fresh clean insert. You can start using the diapers anytime from newborn (though it may not fit too well on smaller babies). I started at 2 months (because Baby E used newborn for 2 months and I got gifted 2 cartons of that size disposable so I had to use it up). The buttons on the PUL are for adjusting size, as baby gets bigger you can unsnap them them to fit baby better. Thats why its called a One-size. |
rofemiguwa:Please put up a picture so we can see which type you have (sounds like an Ai2). They should have explained how to use and care for them. I know I got an explanation when I was buying mine. If you have relatives abroad, let them buy from www.kellyscloset.com for you (nice freebies and an explanation of any questions you have). |
LadyF, remind me next time they're doing Miss Nairaland competition that I owe you a vote ![]() |
Picture below shows the type of dirty diaper bag I use (same brand but different pattern. Below is a picture of my cloth wipes, made myself, used since birth and still going strong (just a bit faded from drying under our harsh sun). You can use it with either plain water or diaper solution (I added senrenren to mine). It's not stressful at all and surprisingly, a lot of doctors approve of my system. When people ask why I don't use disposable wipes, well I use cloth diapers so they save me money and disposable wipes are actually drying. Proof is to use your baby wipes to clean your face daily for a week. You'll notice it (wipes have alcohol in them to evaporate off the skin faster and try and counter the effect by adding an oil sometimes). So sometimes, some wipes with fragrance and that alcohol tend to make certain rash situations worse. cc babythug

Pics below show some of the styles of cloth diapers I use: All-in-one and All-in-2.
|
babythug:Aliexpress, Amazon and some lady in Nigeria used to sell them, Google Rumperooz in Nigeria. But try and decide which style you want: All-in-one, All-in-two. All-in-one means you need more diapers compared to Ai2. If you're going to creche, get Ai1 because it's like a regular diaper. Also get a diaper bag, that they can store dirty diapers in tikk washing (so no smells). Also get cloth wipes (may as well do so since you're using cloth diapers) and the whole bargain become a cheaper (we haven't bought disposable wipes this year and I can reuse them for other children, plus they are gentler on baby skin). I should do a post on cloth diapers o, with pics and breakdowns (if I'm not lazy). The Pampers I bough days produced in Turkey and I think Huggies is same, so maybe it's made for African market. But the quality is very different than made for other markets. Congrats on your baby, btw ![]() |
Rest in Peace Mayowa. People misunderstood and assumed that this case needed surgery to save: even a junior doctor or med student will tell you Sickle Cell+Cancer is a miracle only God can perform, not money thrown at treatment, a miracle. It's so sad that the young lady spent her last few days with these issues surrounding her. I wish her family had been more explicit (but there's no way to tell people to donate to treat a case that requires a miracle to survive) and I wish the public had been more understanding (they misunderstood). I wish the people who started publicising it had not dramatically started enacting scenes and tears and videoing it. Cancer sucks. |
cherrymum1:Dunno. It looks like mildew or something with particles or chemical staining. I wouldn't use it if it were me. Sad to say, but I've noticed our Nigerian brand of diapers don't have good quality control. I've used Huggies and decided to try Pampers. The white S&P inside the diaper to trap the wetness crumbled. It was in Baby E's bum every morning and one morning, we woke up to find it all over the bed and she had developed a rash. So we went back to cloth diapers during the day and Molfix (which I've figured has a sizing issue but is pretty decent) or imported Huggies at night. |
dimplecakes:Please how do you make Basmati rice perfectly? I've always struggled a bit with it. |
I get where you're coming from but honestly when it comes to baby stuff, people tend to stick to what they can trust. I didn't use some of the baby stuff people gave me because it's not what I used normally (but I thanked them prettily and didn't say it to their faces). Especially formula is a touchy subject (this milk may cause constipation in baby, same milk may do nothing). So buy the NAN 1 and WOW detergent but double the quantity. Add something like baby clothes for 3-6 months or older. Tell your wife she should learn to be more gracious. Give her the gifts to present to the family and let the matter end. Your wife thinks you like this neighbour more than her, tell her it's easy to be around people who make you feel at ease. So if she wants to embarass herself by calling a family meeting over a petty matter, well it's her choice. |
Double post. |
rabzy:Rabzy, that's such an excellent question! Hmm, well from what I've noticed, I've seen Frangipani flower more in dry season and I noticed more flowering plants just before the way season starts in full. So maybe April-early June. However, it seems to my eyes that most flowers do pretty well all through rainy season (all the Calla lilies are in full bloom here in Lagos). I know everywhere looks drier during the Harmattan. But this relates to Lagos, so humidity, temperature and other environmental factors like sea level and co will make it different for places like Jos, Enugu or Benue. I know for example in Delta/Edo state, they tend to get even more rainfall than Lagos state and I always saw bigger Hibiscus flowers and ginormous Aloe Vera plants growing with little help. |

Sigh. Okay, I'll spell it out for you, Acidosis and other guys who keep screaming "all this for one night": Do you watch Football? Do you spend time on it? Do you worry and fret about it? Do you discuss it with your friends and strangers on the internet? Why? Because it is important to you. If your family and your wife is not important to you to spend time on and put it in effort, that all of you are complaining "all this for one round", please do the whole world a favour: Don't get married. Save your money. Keep your freedom. Don't have kids, children expect and demand your attention. The world's full of badly neglected children destroying it, we don't need more biko. If the OP had listened to me and done as I suggested, the next time he smiles (a mere smile) and does something to remind her of the last time they had fun, she will be receptive to him. In time, it will translate to her actively seeking him out to have fun. But the OP wants to be "A Man". And men don't beg (even though I didn't ask him to), man commands and tell a woman it is her duty. So let me be clear on this: It is a woman's duty to had sex with her husband. It is not her duty to make love to him. Making love requires happy feelings she isn't feeling and the supposed leader doesn't know how (and doesn't want to know) how to inspire happy feelings in his submissive partner. That means simply lying there and spreading her legs and thinking of her chores. If I were that wife, I will even get a sextoy and help myself in the bathroom after he's done. Please feel free to cheat: I hate to break it to guys, but a lot of men have cheated on beautiful, sexy women who cooked up a storm and loved Jesus and worshipped the ground they worked on. So you have taught us that there is no reward for treating you right. A lot of women don't care (yes they will cry because their pride got hurt, but they will move on swiftly to the point the man becomes only a paycheque to be cashed to pay bills) and a lot of women are cheating on their husbands now (if I were a guy, I would be worried about misbehaving with what I now know of cheating wives). Men have cried wolf too many times. Nobody's scared anymore, what's the worst you will do, cheat. Heck, most women are more scared of losing your income than losing the actual man. But your kids, ah, your kids will suffer. The proof of all I'm saying is daily around you in the world. God is going to hold man responsible because yes, women are also at fault, but He left you guys in charge. Something you remind women of daily. So if you want your wife to fulfil her duty, please let her know and she can lie down, adjust her nightie and you do your thing. But if you want to have an active partner, one who jumps you and tickles you and sends you promised at work, take my advice and put some #$@! effort into your marriage. The same effort you put into discussing Pogba's transfer. Pogba is not having your kids, Pogba is not giving you his salary to maintain the home you share, Pogba is not asking you what you want for dinner, Pogba will not masage your swollen ankles when you are 65 and drive you to the hospital. Yet, you don't begrudge giving him over an hour of attention and data and money to buy his jersey. But here you are, complaining about putting effort into your wife and family. The End. |
RiloKiley:A marriage and parenthood is really more than paying bills. And I'm saying what works for me and several others who tried it. Himself and I danced with our kid during the theme song of one of her favourite shows this week (and he really hates the fact that the song is stuck in his head ), we always watch movies together (last one was "Suicide Squad", I know comics, he knows movies), he likes my hairdo right now (he called it a "vast improvement" ) and look, whadyaknow, we got some last night (and I approached him). And he and I are probably older than most of the people going without regularly (we should be slowing down but nope). At least I put my money where my mouth is and do what I say. Spend quality time with your family, build your marriage, reap rewards. Or spend every Saturday, 1 hr 30mins on Manchester Derby, another 1 hr 30mins on another football match, chill in your favourite chair, stick your nose in your phone and let no-one disturb you, be "A Man" and put your foot down, tell the kids to stay away and roll up in bed at night expecting Kim Kardashian. The best advice I ever got from marriage was from a psychologist (a white lady), who said she listens to whatever society expects of her and her husband and she does the opposite privately and it works for her and for most of her clients. She was speaking on the radio and all she said made so much sense, I wish I could have recorded it. I don't believe in boxes to put people in, I believe in people being free to enjoy the personality God gave them and Life shaped them to be. If God is not putting His foot down to make you worship Him (He created you, it's His right) but instead he gave you a choice, well... It's anyone's choice really. |
frugalandnatura:No I haven't. I just googled it. Perhaps you could do a post on it ![]() |
LynnPetra: This is totally very true (infact I'm brushing my hair right now because of it!) But the reality is that, children are the death of Sex in Marriage. Baby age 2 months: you will prefer to sleep rather than be awake thinking of nyashing. Because you haven't slept upto 3 hours straight in 2 months ![]() Baby age 6 months: your husband (rubbing thigh suggestively), assumed the position and suddenly you hear "nyaaahhhh" Baby age 8 months: you wear bum shorts and your baby, desperate to fight all your weaning attempts, chooks his head into your laps looking for a way to open your top (I shi.t you not this happens till breastfeeding ends) ![]() Baby age 11 months: you wear your white pant and bum shorts, guess who is going to spit up food all over it and rub her mouth on your top in vex that you're giving her solids you will so change clothes.Toddler age 1 year: you lie down, your toddler follows you. You stand up, your toddler follows you. You go to the toilet and your toddler drums on the door until you come out. It's called Separation Anxiety. Toddler age 1.6 years: you arrange and package yourself on the bed and carry remote control to watch, what was it, Africa Magic. Your toddler begins to scream blue murder, because they were showing Teletubbies, how dare you change the channel! ![]() Terrible Twos and older: you and husband get down. Halfway through, you realise the house is quiet. Strangely quiet. That is because your child is drinking from the toilet, about to put a metal fork in a socket, pouring water into your speakers, trying to pull a chest of drawers on top of their silly head, eating Omo, about to "superman" off the balconey etc ![]() See, until age 4, just go with the flow. You may end up throwing away pre-intimacy just so you can knack in between baby naps, on the floor with dirty clothes on. It is because they don't prepare men to be fathers that they don't realise this. Those that have stayed with families who had really young kids when they are old enough to remember are usually understanding when their turn comes. Fathers should hang in there, because it will get better some day and you don't want your marriage in shambles by the time kids become independent. When they start school, things get better a bit. |
Yieldings is right: the emotional nurturing you should be giving to your wife is what you're giving outside. And no, you cannot keep sharing yourself out equally, no-one has that much of themselves to give. Ask yourself this question: what conversations am I having with my female friends that they are willing to sleep with me, a married guy? What type of conversations and interactions am I having with my wife that she feels nothing towards me except for familiarity and gratitude? No-one is asking you to delete numbers, but be sensible about these things. Imagine if Himself picks my phone and sees me having serious conversations with a male friend, telling him how my day was, asking how his day went, sharing jokes and even sending broadcast prayers and what not. Then I say "lighten up, he's my friend from before I met you, stop checking my phone". How will he feel? How will you feel if he tells you? All those girls, if they liked you so much, they should have married you. Now that you're settled and shining, they're appreciating the peace of mind you have at home. Let them go and build up their own men and you stop using them to feed your ego. Btw, don't use threats to ask for stuff like sex. Himself and I both know full well that all of the people that cheat, almost all of them are married men and women. And the married cheatings are harder to catch (so devoted to their husbands and kids! So prayerful! So dressed decently! Always up and doing and keeping busy! Knacking another man on the downlow! ). Don't carry petrol to a fight when you're not 100% sure your opponent isn't going to bring matches. |
Innovestor, today is Thursday, send your wife a message right now, ask her what she's doing, if there's light etc. Come home earlier than usual and play with the kids. Buy cake for your wife and everybody eat. When I say play, I mean PLAY. Dance like an egun masquerade. During this play, you guys should make a paper ball, recreate the NIG-GER match of yesterday (pls be Germany ) and stylishly throw it at Mum. Let her pass it back, infact, rush her if she holds the ball long. Feel free to smack her bum during the play, no red card given. Don't ask for sex.Tomorrow, come home and watch whatever she wants to watch, discuss it with her animatedly. What hairdo is she wearing? Bet you don't know offhand tell her to bring her nailpolish, you want to practise painting because the economy has crashed and manipedis ain't cheap. Ask her what's going with life. Just listen. Gist freely.Saturday, you and her go to the mall. Go watch a movie together (no kids allowed). In the car home, hold her hand. When you get home, don't sit in your usual seat (the one you use as your personal space), sit with her. Tell her "I've missed us having fun, I've missed you". See how the evening goes. |
Juzzybabe:Ignore him. Where is your lawyer? Get a good one (everyone in the family should donate to get one if need be) and let the lawyer henceforth be the only one having any contact with him. Let your father inform your family that under no circumstances should anyone in the family engage him in any sort of dialogue. No-one beg, no-one insult, no-one from familiarity with him, no-one say anything other than "please speak to the lawyers concerning this matter. Good day" and drop the phone. If he wants his bride price back, it was paid to your family by him and his family, so let his family come and collect it after doing the necessary traditional requirement for the return (you don't just return the money). Keep your child away from any of his family unsupervised. They may only visit when you and several family members are present. |
Quakertellicus1:Paying taxes on the one sector that is functioning and still growing is asking Nigeria to be sent back to 1920s. There is no money and no source of income, inflation is rising and salaries are stalled. Where exactly are the masses going to pay for taxes from? Instead this will force people to turn Telecommunications into something that is a luxury, effectively crippling the Technological Growth you so badly crave for and write about constantly. Nigeria is poor but the people who made it poor are in power looting away still. Not one single governor or political has agreed to give up their allowances, talkless of salary cuts. Not one governor reduced the number of Commissioner or aides. Even ex-governors are getting huge pensions. Which is why any loans we take all waste: the money will be spent on maintaining them. So the masses must resist any form of passing the buck if the government itself doesn't start cleaning up their expenditures. Nigerians are not serious: no other country will accept this nonsense. By now there would be riots and people will have seized the airports to prevent politicians from fleeing. |

blank:Okay. This makes sense, but it's still high. I know foreign teachers get paid even more. There is a creche/preschool I know that charges in dollar (parent pays the Naira equivalent) and it used to be about $1800 per term some years back. I know they had a foreigner running it and used to organise all sorts of weird school trips (e.g. visit to France...to learn French...for preschoolers ...). |
