Any country that brings Politics into Sports should be banned. Simples. I was annoyed when I heard about the female Saudi judoka, now this. Let a strict warning be given to all countries: any form of unsportsmanlike behaviour, your team for that sport gets automatically disqualified. There exists the Middle Eastern Games which they can go and compete without having Israel present, but the Olympics belongs to all. This is how Nazi Germany hosted the Olympics and refused to salute the Black athletes who won at Track and Field. War broke out some years later Little ripples of stvpid. The world seems to have forgotten... |
Schoolfees is now madness. We were told N280,000 per term for creche in Lekki 1 and everyone assured us that it was quite affordable. The cheapest I've seen was N230,000 per term. Schoolfees has more than quadrupled up (someone's fees came up from N600,000 to over N1m in a letter at the end of term with no prior warning). I've been told even the mainland is not being spared. Parents of children who are heading to Primary school are now opting to relocate outside the country to be able to afford quality, reasonably-prices schools (Father stays here, Mother moves with kids or both of them move depending on if their jobs are no longer able to afford a sensible lifestyle). People are selling off cars to raise schoolfees for the upcoming term or moving their kids to grandparents or relatives outside Lagos state for Secondary school. So many cannot afford a regular school anymore. I feel if one parent is not working, get educational resources online for British curriculum, hit a bookstore and prep your child through PreKinder. Because why on earth should one pay N600,000 per annum to learn how to write 1,2,3 and A,B,C? Organise playdates for kids. I've met some mums who did that and their kids turned out great. And one supermum whose kids became superstars is now coaching other kids. |
Correct babe! Focus+Drive+Plan= Success I pray God watches over her. |
I think shanties should be policed better. But when will he address what is going on in Mushin, Somolu and those environs? Gang warfare, the type normally seen in the U.S., is growing unchecked. |
Gerrard59:Book knowledge holds sway, but in the U.S. they like all-rounders and think children need Athletics to be social, teach them Teamplaying and Winning. One of the biggest volume of scholarships come from Sports. Your sister actually has a better chance of studying abroad cheaply if she's good at her sport (do you KNOW how many Nigerians are competing for foreign countries and they gave them Citizenship? ). Countries who are hungry for Gold in Athletics will offer her scholarship of she's good, especially European countries. And we don't have St. Saviour's money ![]() |
Here is the video to see why the U.S., U.K., China and so many other countries are doing better than us: they start from childhood with it without their Government's support. The ages of the children in that video are: gymnast Arat Hosseini, 2 year old boxer Njee "The Future," 7 year old baseball player Eston Haskiell, 4 year old swimmer Elizabeth Christensen, seen swimming in 2013 at 16 months basketball player Enzo Lee, 5 year old ping pong player Jamie Myska-Buddell, seen hitting balls in 2012 at 18 months soccer player Ronay Arabaci, seen playing soccer in 2013 at 8 years old golfer Michael Patton, seen playing in 2013 at 3 years old Nigerian parents, start doing and funding Science, Music, Arts and Sports. MFM church funds Classical music and so far, Nigeria's most popular Opera singer (doing very well in France) passed through them. Almost the entire MUSON orchestra is from MFM. |
Gerrard59:So, I did a quick Google search and I found a recently completed stadium, Akwa Ibom stadium. What has stopped you from taking her there to have a look. I'm not a sports person but I know that wherever a stadium is close by, athletes are training. Getting the best jobs in Nigeria is a fantastic feat, particularly with the crumbling economy and nepotism. Even 1st class students are struggling. But like I've said before, if your sister went to compete, even if she didn't win but she mentioned it in an interview, what do you think will happen? Which candidate is more memorable, Miss "I competes in Long Jump at the Olympics but didn't win a medal" or Miss "I have a 2:1, just like the rest 50% other applicants and please remember it is from a Nigerian university, which everyone assumes produces half-baked graduates who can't speak English well or understand Logic and Reasoning?" Which candidate stands out more? Do you know the crazy thing? Even in the U.S. they have budget cuts everywhere affecting schools, arts and sports. Parents will go and raise funds to keep those things in a good shape for their children. I know this, before I had to help my aunt at a fundraiser in her small community to support some kids trying out for Nationals for some sport. In Nigeria, if I declare "my pastor needs a new private jet, my sister needs a N2million wedding and my church needs a 'befitting' N50million new auditorium", people will troop out to donate. If I say "my community needs a new clinic, my village needs more books in their school library, I want to buy equipment for my local Youth group to train them in Volleyball", how many people do you think I'll get to donate? It's what Nigerians like and value they spend on. So, yeah, get used to Nigeria managing to win 3 medals at every Olympics. That Chierika Ukogu girl competing in Rowing has become a mini-superstar. She's even featured on CNN. Remind me how many Medical students (because she's studying Medicine) from UniLag, UNN or any other uni is as popular as her right now. Chioma Ajunwa (who got promoted through the ranks of NPF), Blessing Okagbare, etc. See a pattern? Good luck with your sister. There are fewer jobs nowadays. It's not longer about book knowledge, I hope you are now making friends with the right people so she can get a bank job instead of teaching like her peers. |
Fatherly, a U.S. group supporting fathers, posted a video titled "2032 Olympic Athletes". See babies and toddlers doing every sport imaginable and being trained and supported by their parents before the Govt gets involved. But Nigerians are waiting for Govt to come and enter their house, pluck their son and daughter and make them Tennis stars and Gymnasts, etc. Clap for yasef, una go wait tire. Govt of mediocrity for people who worship mediocrity. https://mobile.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1027365630649912&id=348596051860210&refsrc=https%3A%2F%2Fm.facebook.com%2FFatherlyHQ%2Fvideos%2F1027365630649912%2F&_rdr http://m.wptz.com/news/meet-the-2032-olympic-team/41104422 The baby playing Table Tennis is not up to 10 months, because he couldn't stand up, but he was already knocking back more than half the balls served at him. The gymnast was not over 3 years of age. The swimmer is like 1.5 years, cannot pass 2 years old. And that little boxer?? Sweet Lord, that kid has talent. This summer, what has your child done?? |
mightyhaze:You're wrong. Those fish don't look full-grown and overfishing is a big deal. You catch all the fish today and tomorrow there is nothing to eat. He should have left some because he cannot even sell off this much in a week and I'm sure he doesn't have access to proper commercial storage. So it will rot and be a waste. And seagulls and other animals will never overfish to the extent Man does. Nature abhors imbalance... Or is this too much English for you? Should I just let you fill your belly today and then wail about hunger tomorrow? ![]() |
We should invite her to Nigeria. Apparently we have a Nigerian Rowing Federation. Let them come and help set up facilities to train for the sport. We have amateur kayakers in Nigeria who need training and equipment. We have people who have money that can donate. Let us stop waiting for one embarassing government official to realise how to do his job and take matters into our own hands. It doesn't matter if she doesn't win a medal, she's done something. And we as individuals should donate what we can, encourage our kids to play Sports and show up at local games to support our athletes. Leave Government to be fooling themselves there. |
YorubaIgbo:I'm really glad you brought both sets òf parents into this. You've saved that girl. I don't know if it's advisable to continue the relationship with her but you've saved her. Thank you. |
Explorers:In the U.S. and U.K. there are Baby swimming classes from about 4 months old. That is because a lot of people have pools in their homes and it is a safety hazard if a baby or toddler falls into the pool. So they don't drown. A friend of mine used to teach one in her church youth centre. We started putting our baby in the pool at 6 months and I believe that there are some classes for 1 year old babies at Ikoyi club. Babies are taught to not panic, but roll over and float and cry for help. This keeps their noses and mouths out of water and they don't drown. In Ijaw land, they take their kids swimming early and on Takwa bay too (though not as young as toddlers). Please don't try this at home unless you are very well-trained at swimming. |
touchmeder:What did you try? |
flyca:Nope, Foluke Akinradewo. I watched a bit of their match yesterday and saw her play. |
flyca:There is a Yoruba girl on the U.S. volleyball team too. |
So, follow-up: Humbledbyfaith is still active on NL, most likely checking to see how far things will go. I spoke to some people and they gave some suggestions, basically, the solution lies in the hands of the owner of this site. What I can advise everyone to do, is to NOT give any money to anyone. No matter what. Because your protection is limited (the bank can fish an account as a scam account but they need more details and proof to actually shut it down and alert other banks. Yes, they share information with other banks and bvn has made it easier) and most of us don't have the resources to take this fight. As for the other accounts, it's left to prove the connection between VineHands and Humbledbyfaith, so the old threads have to be unlocked so a good case can be presented to the right authorities (not the police). However, when I mentioned the website was Nairaland, some of the people present laughed and explained that this site has a bad reputation for being filled with scammers and the owner of the site allowing things to go unchecked. Which makes honest businesses avoid it and this causes a loss of revenue for the site. I was given an example that some companies monitor it to see if complaints about their products and services come up, but refuse to advertise on it for fear of attracting scammers. Seun, if you read this, you should do something. |

So he came to Nigeria, met you, quickly moved the relationship forward and them travelled out almost immediately? Ohboy. Unfortunately, you're the 2nd wife. Let me explain what most likely happened from his side. He met a woman, whom he liked a lot. But his family pushed against her (for whatever reasons). Any maybe his mother was doing that Crazy-Naija-Mama routine and demanding grandbabies. So he came to Nigeria to do the needful. Then wen back to the arms of his loving woman and consoled her with a child. She didn't know about you. But it was becoming awkward: how can you live with a woman, have a child with her, sustain yourself on her finances but refuse to marry her? She then asked for a ring and he brought up the usual objections but this time, she dug deeper. And she most likely confronted him and threw him out of her life. So his friends counselled him to cut his losses and come back to you, and one helped him by calling you to beg. To his surprise he found out you knew about his other life and got angry at YOU for communicating with that lady. Because he was hoping he would get to you first and give you his own version of events and Man-splain to you ("Man-splain"definition: a word used to describe an explanation by a man which makes no sense logically but is given to manipulate the hearer. Example: "I cheated on you but now the girl is pregnant and threatening to keep the baby and confront you. Don't let her break up our marriage" . In all this, no-one considered your feelings or your sorrow at being turned into a single mother for 5 years with no financial or emotional support. If your father is alive, present this case to him. Ask him if this is the sort of Son-in-law he wants for you. Remind him that South Africa failed, but Europe is a new frontier for that man and next time, it may be a German or Lithuanian woman sending you pictures of his child. Is that what he wants for his daughter? 2 of my neighbours are in your predicament. One is so bad that I don't know what her husband looks like after 15 years. He would show up briefly to impregnate her and be gone. She is such a pretty lady, quiet and dignified. But she is very much a single mother. Life is harsh, it punishes the good and rewards the wicked. |
martineverest:She was rowing against a Gold medallist and 2 other Finalists, so she was probably the least experienced, followed by the Togolese girl. I listened to the commentary (by past Rowers) and they said one of the strategies smaller teams adopt is by starting wih a lot of vigour and trying to create as wide a margin between them and more experienced rowers. So this gives them something to hold onto once the Experienced ones get into their stride. Maybe that was her strategy and it paid off: she qualified. Now she has to get another strategy for the next round and study the other towers. |
Nigerians don't encourage their kids to play Sports. It is summer holidays and I'm yet to hear of someone saying "instead of my kids to be sitting down at home doing nothing, let a few parents gather ourselves organise 5 side football tourney with our kids" or "why not some of us parents ask and see which of us play Sports and that person can coach our kids, we provide food and drinks". It starts from baby steps. The Brazilian guy who took Silver at 100m Air Rifle shooting started at 8, largely trained at home. Chierika Ukogu started in school abroad. But have you seen our Interhouse Sports nowadays? The schools use them to make money rather than train kids. FGC Ilorin boys used to be sooo good at Cricket in the 1980s, why didn't parents fight to keep their teams up there instead of waiting for Government? There are people who can play Tennis, Judo, Boxing and Volleyball, even Beach Volleyball. Go to a stadium, look for a coach, negotiate and keep your kids busy and moving. There are 2 Horse riding schools in Lagos alone yet we have no Showjumpers and some of these kids are even part of Pony clubs in England. Just put up an announcement in your church bulletin that you are organising it for free and ask that as parents sign up, they must stay with their ward and provide food and drinks for all kids. That's how my cousins would spend their holidays and their 11 year old little league Soccer team were good. Simple things, we cannot do. A black man is constantly preoccupied with filling his belly, sleeping and knacking. Other countries poorer than us will perform better. Brazil, India, so many countries are as poor as we are, yet are more organised. Nigerians will be waiting for government and be acting like they must fight for every meal. |
Amiee99:Are you currently a weightlifter? Have you done any competitions? |
raptor2:Yes, it's the same. |
Babztemmy:Oh dear. No more crying over spilt milk. I have so many questions for you and some suggestions but I don't know if you are ready to answer them publicly. What do you say? |
ifyalways:I've done Erin Ijesha but I'll do the others. Thanks. I told my brother and he was asking me about "do they use gear to climb?" ![]() |
ifyalways:Where do they do rock-climbing in Naija? One of my bros likes Rock-climbing and he wouldn't mind kitting up when he next comes here. Heck, I'd join him. Do you know they do kayaking in Lagos, have you tried it? How much is this trip biko? Have been begging Himself that we should go to Namibia and Mozambique, have danced and even worn a thong but he keeps insisting we should go to U.K. (for family) and then Law Vegas (why! Why!! Place is dulling and I'm the family gambler, he will just stay in his hotel room). |
OEmiohe:I remember you. I thought you went into the business of selling Coconut oil. And you had a few other issues (Did his mum eventually come, how did it go?) Hmm. As per the bolded, how does it show respect to give him all of your salary? Did you ever give your parents all of your salary, I mean, those guys paid schoolfees for you do at least 20 years. Maybe next time, find a more reasonable way of showing respect. Such as, I dunno, just being polite? Dunno. Secondly, you need a job. I get being pregnant and maybe it's a bit rough, but you need to earn money. So does he. And someone has to babysit your 9 year old. So I would suggest that you two first discuss it at home together, all the plans. Because if you put your child in creche and your husband is sitting at home doing nothing, you guys are wasting money. So he really has to go and find a job or work of some sort because you can't work for long and if you start having pregnancy-related complications, you have to stop work. In your first trimester, take this new job but let your husband woman-up (balls are delicate, a vagina can take a pounding ) and go and find any sort of paid work right now. Festac is a good place to offer up his services as a driver for example. I know some few people looking for drivers so let him go to the Catholic church and the Anglican church there and state what he is looking for. A recommendation from those guys will be more trustworthy than a random person introducing him. |
99% of Nigerians are corrupt. Which is why it is futile to insult your politicians: those guys are not aliens, they passed through the system. The mind-boggling part is when you hear some civil servant who has just collected a bribe to do his/her job or inflated a procurement bill or demanded a kickback, complain about the problems in Nigeria and how Govt is bad. I'm like "WT ...." |
Sincere4u:Sports is actually a good way out of poverty. If this guy can mobilise some of our jobless youths who already play Table Tennis, coach them through local tourneys here in Nigeria and start selecting some of the good ones. We already have tables and paddles. And he has experience plus he can watch videos of Asian players to see what techniques they have. Then once he has something going, approach companies and people for funding. If we can get things working without waiting for government, government will come and look for you. If this man can have a popular training for Table Tennis at a stadium like Teslim Balogun, get small sponsorship and a lot of media coverage (not hard to do), and have people talking about his work, then even the next gubernatorial aspirant will be forced to treat with him for publicity (after all, presidential aspirants try and use celebrities for their own use) and he will get more sponsorship. Stop chasing easy money and start working. Our people keep looking for something that will make them hammer in 1 year's time. Once you start doing well, sponsors come easier. That is one of my issues with athletes, we see nothing from them until Olympics. The smart ones like Blessing Okagbare work their butts off and prove themselves and start getting sponsors. Most of the others will be waiting for sponsorship without results. |
But seriously, What DOES Kemi Adeosun do with her time? Because as Minister of Finance, she's underperforming to an alarming level. What are her plans to help stimulate the country's economy? It's like she doesn't exist or have meetings with Emefiele and others. |
urbanmsg:I'm sorry for what you want through. I don't think there was any need for your hubby to have moved in with that lady. I don't think S.A. works that way So what benefit was there in his behaviour? Guys who pull this stunt do it in the US and Europe and Asia for papers, but I've not heard anyone in SA needing to do this to work. And it doesn't seem like he was working. Also, what was he doing with himself for 5 years that she was supporting him and he still had no money to support your son? Isn't that worrying? He's spent the same amount of time with this lady that he has with you: both of you are essentially co-wives and you're already in a polygamous marriage. I understand wanting more children and not wanting to mess things up. Life is crazy, you may have one child, meet a great guy who will love that child. Or you may have more kids with this guy, then realise that this man you were married to came back to Nigeria to mooch off you. Just like the first lady. You won't be the first woman to fall into such a trap. Your mum and sister are worried about the shame of it all and are not going to give you money if he comes back to Nigeria and starts living off you. Infact are you sure he's not coming back because he heard you have stabilised yourself and he needs another place and woman to live off on? This may well be the case. Please tell him to stay with his friends when he comes back and both of you can meet somewhere publicly and discuss things. Don't let him move into the house you struggled for and don't let him come and beg you in your family house, you don't want to make this decision surrounded by emotional blackmail. There are men like this and unfortunately a lot of women fall prey to them. I personally feel moving on is your best option. He went silent for 10 months, haba how much is credit that he couldn't afford to send a text? Is the other woman's child about the same age as your child? Then there's a possibility that it was her money that he may have been sending to you during your pregnancy to support you. And when she had her baby, there was not enough to go round. Shocking but it happens. So let him come and speak for himself. But let us be clear: he has no excuses. So what was he doing in that woman's house for so long and what has he been doing with himself that he could not support his family? I wish you all the best. |
ifyalways:But why are you a wonderful person having fun in this life, ehhh how did it feel? |
UncleLondon:That's great news. But where do I start looking for in Lagos? |
Her skin is gorgeous! Super attractive couple. African people, whom the skintone belongs to, won't want to marry her or even call her pretty. na only Oyinbo man dey appreciate all our good things. |
