Congratulations. .. Nice pictures. It is obvious you guys had loads of fun. Enjoy... |
sucess001:The federal and state government were just aligned in 2015; prior to that, the project had already been considerably altered. This was a project that should have been delivered by 2013. Also having same party at the top doesn't always mean progress would be made. There is this ego and stumbling block as regards development and this ain't helped by our black man mentality. Just an example, there had to be an uproar and public backlash before the Lagos Airport road from Oshodi was conceded to the Lagos State government in 2017. Even as at then, FG (Ferma)wanted to show they were working and still went on patching non existent portholes around 7/8 axis even after the concession; thus causing an uneven texture on the road surface. These are publicly available facts and not heresay. Just go to CMS and see derelict FG buildings that should be pulled down to build something meaningful. Is it the litany of useless army and police barracks that should be moved to the hinterlands we have all over Lagos chugging up space that should be used for building new infrastructure? There's something inherently wrong with the structure of the country as regards Land Use and the only person that tried working on it was Yaradau. May his soul rest in peace. |
Olyboy16:Reading shouldn't be that hard. The initial route was supposedto pass through the existing Iddo Railway Terminus and line. I.e from National theatre through Ijora Causeway then ido and unto Marina passing the the front of UBA headquarters. The FG as at then in their usual senseless manner denied them the right to use that right of way thus making them link it directly through Apongbon. And still yet there's this Federal ministry yard there that i doubt they have gotten approval for thus stalling the project there. You could see that they abruptly stopped constructing pliers there before the main bridge and moved on to the Marina axis to continue construction. You can plan and do your home work but if you have an archaic Land Use Act like that of Nigeria you would understand that even building a 1km road that shouldn't take you more than 6 months would take 10years with the useless bureaucracy at the top and needless politics in play and same applies in the power sector. Funny enough we aren't doing anything to dismantle such laws and give more automony to State Governments so they can achieve their aims. |
People seem to be mistaking the word perfectionist with something else. Being principled, striving for excellence and unwavering is a different word and entire thing. A perfectionist is a negative adjective and anyone alluding to baving such traits needs to make a review of what life is really about and see a counsellor. You would just die of depression. The earth is made of imperfect things and that's why it so beautiful; so why would a mere mortal tend to achieve perfectionism? Can you even attain perfection? Nope A perfectionist would never appreciate the little efforts and beautiful things around them . They always criticize and believe nothing anyone does is good enough and no wonder they are never happy because happiness is appreciating the average while embracing your lack of (imperfections). |
hotwax:I find that hard to believe but i don't doubt that. Why would they? Isn't religion a personal thing? What about people who believe in the other forms of gods or is a free thinker ? Do they get to lead prayers also? We Nigerians take things a bit towards the extreme. Everyone should pray whatever they want to pray at home. Collective prayers at work is very discriminatory and maybe uncomfortable for some. |
The only thing i find unsettling here is that you guys have to do a joint prayer in the morning. Wtf? Like seriously? At the work place? |
buygala:So they are prejudiced? Is that what you are saying? And seeking justice and interpretation of laws is fighting the law school? No wonder the country is the way it is. |
chizzy161:I cannot understand and i don't want to even understand whatever justifications you guys have. Fit and proper? Prolly he should face a firing squad because of a squabble? If the school administration were so busy and had lots on their hands they wouldn't be deliberating on squabbles between fellow students that could have been sorted by an ordinary SRC. Even hardened criminals are granted paroles. And from his account and even the press release by the law school., the issue was a non issue that was not supposed to be blown out of proportion. So you support that someone's future should be destroyed because of an ordinary infraction? Are you telling me the crime committed is commiserate with the purnishment meted?. No wonder we have mobsters burning people up and down. If we are producing lawyers who can't see beyond their egos and thoughts of seeking pounds of flesh or revenge or severe purnishment then I doubt what the ordinary man's understanding of justice would be. |
Nice. Want to see how this pans out. At least the law would take it's course but if logical reasoning was common around here then he should not have been expelled for a sit misunderstanding in the first place. That's way over reaching and draconian. Laws should be fair and just. The aim of all justice system is rehabilitation and not inflicting pain maybe the Law school Admin let this sink in. Precedent has shown no matter how hard a punishment is, it does not deter people from doing the crime. He didn't cheat in an exam, it was an altercation for goodness sake. We all do disagree with people daily. Give him school detention(i.e stay off campus for two weeks, a month) or something else do probono. Serve for free in a remote village for 6 weeks at a motherless babies home. There were so many other ways of punishing his misdemeanor but rusticating ain't the way to go. Edited... |
And they you didn't read the line on the news that the machines were bought over the counter on eBay? Which even posses a question as regards what sort of machine they were trying to hack in the first place. |
Many here have comprehension issues. Just follow the sequence and you would see why the guy was totally at fault. He was trying to discuss sexually related things with her(see her quote "many many talk") . In order to shut him up, she told him she was a lesbian. Same way i would tell someone i am gay just to discontinue a discussion around heterosexual stuff. I guess she did that thinking he would just shut up presumably since other avenues to keep him mute must have failed. But alas he did the unthinkable. Even if she was a Lesbian he has no rights whatsoever to do that to her. That's crossing the line. He deserves all the punishment he can get and I hope the lady pursues him in court for sexual harassment. Most Nigerians won't last 6 months before they are charged with sexual assault outside the shores of this country where there are laws. I would pay more for a Uber or Taixfy ride where you can select that the driver be mute all through the drive. I don't f..ing want to hear your discussion. Just drop me at my destination |
I am sure a lot of people would love to hear progress report on that scheme. Sissie, maclatunji......any help? |
hfeetham0:There's no need convincing people of their illicit beliefs. If the gargantuan of info out there cannot cure you of your ignorance, i doubt a discussion on an open forum would. There are still people out there who believe killing another person gives them a right passage to am illusory heaven, so yours is not even that bad. There are a million nuerons in the body and one of them can actually go haywire and distort things for people. So i would just emphatize with you. Wish you luck bro/sis. Edited.... Like seriously. . You are so stupid walahi. I would really plank your head if i see you truly. I actually didn't see you quote Van Allen radiation belts. And how did Van Allen discover radiation? Aint it through Explorer 1 which in essence is a satelite. Same satelites you said doesn't exist? You should be flogged. You see what half baked education does to people. They lose their thought processes and lose the ability to reason well and sadly that's the reality of the world we live in. And as for the Dumbledrum quoting Quran 2:22 . Get a ball , suspend it in air with a string. Put small ants on it an allow them roam. What does the outer space at the top and bottom of the ball look like? Skies? And what about the body of the ball? Beds. When the ayah stated canopy and beds. It was referring to exactly the same and doesn't justify flat earth. Stupid people would be the death of this nation indeed. This would be my last response to you. You would do well to go back and return the fees paid on your education. Seems it's a waste of jusicious use of resources. |
MrOlai:Abi. The guy or lady wakes up every morning and sees the moon and the sun. Do those two look flat to anyone? At least if you believe satellites don't exist and all you see on tv is fake. I guess the moon and sun you see with your Koro koro eye is drawn by someone and placed in the sky to make people believe things are spherical abi? If you can't believe what your eyes see then i doubt anyone would be able to convince such person of their folly. |
hfeetham0:Toor ..i give up then. You must have been reading lots of conspiracy theories. We all had our doubts like you, i even questioned the moon landing by stating that the technology then had the memory of a Casio Calculator so recording and transmitting live images from thousands of Kilometres were near impossible but with much more reading and openness i realized it was possible and did infact happen. That's fact trumping opinions. If there are no satellites out there , i really don't need to push you too far. Turn on your phone, go to google maps and view traffic. Those things use GPS sensors to know the traffic situation. Your weather report, even your cell phones use satellites. Wonder why DSTV goes bad when there are clouds? Or you hear cloud computing or streaming? Or the popular iCloud on iphones? All those use satellite based technoliges. Also , differences in the way a shadow is reflected is enough evidence that the earth is not flat. If the earth were to be flat. The angle of elevation for all items would be the same and the shadows they cast all day would be the same height. As a muslim, guess you forgot how Zuhr, Asri and Mahgrib prayers are determined by how shadows are casted? I would implore you to read actual scientific sources and stop wallowing in abject ignorance. I feel like planking your head from here. Earth is flat ke? Ignorance comes in bales indeed. Seriously what have people been smoking of recently? People should watch what they read seriously. |
hfeetham0:Really? Wait...how did you come to that conclusion? We have seen statelite images of the earth which are 100% accurate and it shows it's round so how come you believe it is flat? Is it because people don't fall off the earth? In a flat earth model if you reach the end you should fall off or what happens at the end? |
Sterope:Help me tell him o. Even Evans would be granted an opportunity to write an opinion for the economist. So what is he yapping sef? |
davidif:You sound even out of depth than I thought. I see you are one of those if it is from the West it is always correct type. As if someone sitting in an office in downtown NY would know much more than me in Nigeria that daily experience and have first hand information as regards a topic . CNN definitely knows much more about Ajegunle than the people living in it I guess? Olodo... Since you actually have nothing based on facts or intellect to contribute than useless links, I would implore you to go on and copy and paste more links that disproves my listed statements. And you can pocket your good day. You seem to need it more. And just to educate you a bit, an op ed in a newspaper is what it is an "opinion" from any tom dick or harry. Doesn't mean it is the stance of the publication or based on facts. |
If I submitted an essay as such without background references and citations for just an high school english language assignment like the writer did, I would be flogged. I wanted to pass over this but sometimes you just need to nip ignorance in the bud before it travels. The article is such a bad jumbling of words by the writer(i am tempted to not call him one because he clearly isn't one) who thought adding boko haram or whatever gives legitimacy over his writings as regards Muslims and birth control. How many Muslims are governed by Boko Haram in the North for their stance to warrant a mention in a public health discuss that cuts across millions of people? Maybe we should start by asking that question. Please get your facts right. Islam enjoins people to do family planning it was even in hadith as far back as 1400 years ago about withdrawal method even though we know it is not that effective but nonetheless it is still a form of birth control. As for his ignorant position without valid evidences to support such statements like Muslims not supporting birth control. I guess he has never taken a look at the demographics of the world and realize that overpopulation is not a factor caused by religion but more of culture and poverty. In the Nigerian case. It's so easy to explain.. 1. The average Nigerian believes their kids is an investment and a sure way out of their poverty(children are "blessings" from the lord they say) and like a lottery player or bad gambler goes on giving birth in the hopes of raising the odds of one of then hitting it big and building them houses and lifting them out of poverty or whatever when they grow old. 2. The high child mortality rate is another issue. It is a known fact that Nigeria alone loses about 2300 children under 5 years old every single day. To put it in good perspectives. There are 201 deaths per 1000 live births. I.e 1 in 5 kids never reach age 5 . You would be alarmed that it is higher than that and to mitigate the effect. Most people tend to give birth to more children in order to increase the survival rates since healthcare is poor and most times they can't even afford it. So why not give birth to more. Give birth to 12 and at least 5 should get to age 40, aint it? 3. People are too poor to afford birth control. Even a N50 condom is a big investment to 9 out of 10 Nigerian males. Let alone female condoms that are much more expensive. I can bet you. Do a mini survey on nairaland amongst girls that are sexually active and ask them if they have ever even seen a female condom in their lives let alone buy. And that is just cd o. Don't even let me go the way of IUCD or the others. How many Nigerians even visit a certified health care centre? How many prinary health care centres do we even have? What is the ratio of Health care practitioners to the population because except you are well learned as regards birth control methods, I doubt you would just decide to wake up one day and start taking brith control pills. 4. Then the main causative. Poverty. Just look at areas with rapid and high birth rates. They have the same denominator. Poor and underdeveloped countries. China, india, brazil, Nigeria e.t.c . I guess if we have to go by the narrative if this du.mb writer Muslims are the only ones domiciled in China, Brazil and India. 5. Ignorance: our education level is so low that even educated people think so irrationally that you would have to classify them as illiterates. I have heard graduates.from university saying using contraceptive is a sin. Or the fact that people still think we are in the farming era where your kids are used as labourers so you don't spend much on labour. Pray tell how many Nigerians own farms? So which of these factors above are related to religion please? People just writing sensationalist things to gain clicks. ![]() And as for the op..I am not surprised. It's a footprint. |
JahsPet:guy if it is lagos then that's not out of place. People pay for a flat and share the rooms and so on with their colleagues or outsiders. Just that there's a central room for everyone to attend to visitors. Most people look for same sex mates to share with. You should ask her how that arrangement came to be. We can't provide you answers you need. She alone can do that. That's what happens when you cramp people into a small area with sky high leases and rent. |
tintingz:i like to debate people but not ones that come off arrogant and feel they know it all. Knowledge sharing is more of mutual understanding. Your type don't read history and understand where things are coming from. See...if it is reading you want to do. You never start sef. Na you go tire. You say dark ages in the past? We are the ones in the dark ages when compared to achievements from previous civilizations. The technology and expertise they had back then can't even be equaled by our latest technologies aside probably electricity. Just basic roads constructed by the Roman army over 2500 years back are still standing scattered over places in Europe notwithstanding weathering. Go read the history of Bhagdad (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Baghdad_(1258)and how the Golden age of Islam was brought to an end by Ghengis Khan. Also read more on Bait al hikma(House of wisdom) My area of interest and of note is the largest library as at then and how it was what Islam as a religion actually laid the foundation and encouraged to enhance knowledge about the world. Those were the era when religion spurred knowledge, science and deep thinking and questions were asked and new discoveries were made to further enhance human living. Most of the greatest philosophers were actually from those era, painful that they lost all writings to the invasion by Ghengis Khan. These were religious people and nothing stopped them from asking questions and making new inventions to help further human existence(e.g history of algorithms) There's no difference between science and religion to a large extent. Yeah, they might have different ways of arriving at a fact but i guess it is more of the people who pratice blind religousity that have made it seem like they are polar opposites. But good luck. You seem to have figured everything out and i am no counselor. Just a regular person like you trying to make a bit understanding out of all the mumbo jumbo of the world. Once again take your reading slow and gain more of understanding. If you want to debate philosophy science and whatnot you are always welcome but please note respect is reciprocal. Enjoy your day. |
@sterope . You guys should cut him some slack joor .I guess the guy is just at that stage of reading something new, getting fanscinated about it and has decided that the new thing is the all in all forgetting that knowledge is not just a stage but a journey. @Titingz....those who gain knowledge and seek direction don't go about painting it in everyone's face. I do understand you need to seek knowledge. The first word of the Quran released says "read" but reading alone is just the basic part. There's more to understanding things and relating it to how it affects human life. Humans are evolving and truth is there are a billion things we don't understand but we are encouraged to read and try and understand them and not disparage what we already know. You can't deny the fact that there's an ultimate being somewhere. What makes things confusing to most our ideas of what is good and what is bad and that religion is stagnant and never evolving. The words may not evolve but practises and the way they apply to life would definitely change. What if you are a scientist and all you believe in are being questioned by just a single aspect like quantum physics that tends to nullify the idea of gravitational forces and whatnot? Heck, we don't even know 10% of what lies in the ocean sitting next to us let alone billions of other stars and space out there.Even all those philosophy books you are reading can't still answer or categorically define basic questions like what is good and what is evil. I would just advise you don't rush into just reading anything. Take it slowly, read and UNDERSTAND and if things seem knotty ask questions from those who know before making sweeping conclusions. |
People be quoting unnecessary and incorrect statistics. Also arguing back and forth as regards things they have no knowledge of. Don't bring religion or whatever into this. The middle East situation is so complicated you would need to time travel us all back a 100 years to be able to fix anything. People don't fight over religion but self interests and that is exactly what's playing out and it is the norm since 0.000 AD. So I would advice you don't get yourself all worked up if you really don't have a direct flow of benefit as regards what happens out there. Just kindly face the immediate issues around you. |
Benita27:You seem to just like making statements without facts. Most? What percentage of Nigerian ladies regardless of religion have choices in marriages? Maybe you take a short stroll through the family section and see hundreds of threads of ladies being married off without their "total approval. Your perchance for muddling things up make it seem like you grew up with a lot of misconceptions and stereotypes. What's conservative about the religion? If such marriage happens without the consent of the lady and she can only give consent when she has(in arabic "balaga" i.e matured enough to make such decisions then such marriage is null and avoid and cannot be called an Islamic marriage because it goes against the basic tenets.Just as a sidenote..... Fact is neglect of women and lack of equal rights is an issue that cuts across most African cultures and is amplified by culture and not Islam. YEAH, I agree that people can hide under the cloak of religion to pass on misconceptions but when have we Nigerians, Africans or humans being godly and not just cherry picking aspects of religion that fits our narratives? It is not even an hidden fact women can't be heirs to their parents till date in some cultures and a lady cannot reject the suitor her father has chosen for her else she would be disowned. And all these are norms in places where Islam doesn't even have a foothold. So what are you talking about? Even in the western world French women gained the right to work without their husband's permission in the 1960s. In Spain the permiso marital was abolished in 1975, in (West) Germany a woman needed her husband's permission to work until 1977. The world is a chauvinistic one and it would take a lot of time before we overcome such biases. It's a man's world ain't that the popular phrase? |
Benita27:People online just wake up and spew rubbish. And who told you in Islamic marriages people are married off without their consent and married off while they were kids? If you aren't knowledgeable about a topic you would do well to just not comment and move on. An islamic marriage requires the consent of both parties and parents/guardians as witnesses. And also divorce in Islam as stated in the news is allowed and can be requested by both parties if they can't continue with such marriage which is exactly what the lady exercised and not enlightenment or whatever mumu story you feel like concoting . You make it sound like women in Islam don't have choices which is very wrong. |
My goodness. .. And we call this a country? Someone is holed up in detention without trial for more than 48hours till 1, 2, 3 weeks until more than 2 and half months and still yet people are making jest of her. The poor people in this country deserve whatever befalls them because they are an accessory to the crimes being committed against them. Just imagine it was you. No where in our penal code is Libel listed as a criminal case and even if it were to be. No one should be arrested without a brief and kept for so long. |
I don't know the kind juju ladies dey believe in. How would you visit an ex who you had past sexual relations with in his abode all alone and expect nothing to happen? Are you ladies that naive or i don't just get it? Especially when such interactions and friendships are not well and clearly defined. From a gentle handshake anything can result and happen. I truly don't pity you. Enjoy the guilt. |
Everything wrong with Nigeria has just been expressed by the opening post and his fellow comrades. So because they paid 5million naira they shouldn't queue? They should have been flown straight into the house becuase money trumps everything in your own little minds. Do we now see why we don't have process and are in the stone age as a society . If a poor fellow like the op could think this way. Imagine what would happen if he has some change. He wouldn't queue to buy fuel, would bully sales reps, buy his way out of crime and whatnot and we complain that the country is up side down. |
. |
Sterope:The bolded is my grouse with most people who stick to culture when it favours them. Nothing is stagnant ahen it comes to human interactions and way of life. Culture is transient and is always subject to change. Lanuage which is the more pronounced part of culture is even changing daily let alone others tgat are just peripheral aspects of it. Yeah, we should hold onto the good aspects of it but there are some that are just trivial and should not be an obligatory part of people's life . |
sholay2011:Asking the right questions. |
erico2k2:There are speed limits on mosts roads and if they are non existent in areas he lives. Then commonsense dictates he should never exceed 40km/hr for City driving and maintaining an average of 90 to 100km on highways . Also speed limits are not written in stone. As a driver he should watchful of areas. There are some days you drive through an area at 40km but due to market days you have to move at snail speed. You don't go 40 because the road dictates. Speed limits are just guides, road awareness and caution is of utmost importance. |

good evening nairanlanders.
