I never knew ambode is this intelligent
He is but he should please stop repeating that 27 years experience in public service always. We want to know how you have used your experience to turn things around in the past and not just mouthing it to us. It's boring already please. Some areas needs more bolder development. and more innovative ideas especially flood prone areas.

Also, Lagos needs more careful planning. Lagos would only progress much better if the Federal Government would just give out those large swats of unused lands in lagos and move out all Military formations out of the city centre. This should free up more land for new road construction, housing and other things. I just can't imagine prime landed properties rotting away because of this crazed land use system that we have. Move away some functions out of Lagos...I.e port operations. We got Calabar port there. That is how a megacity functions.

In short anyone coming to rule Lagos should know he is ruling a mini Nigeria. if Lagos functions well, other parts of Nigeria would be better for it.

I understand. I looked at it from broad perspective. Reading op and your post, i knew you are sincere and have good intention. But it means something different to others anytime issue of women is on the table. That's why i asked you to define.

For instance, anytime we hear "women's right", people aren't thinking about Islamic education, understanding women position in islam etc....no. They think of it from western perspective. I knew you and op meant it differently.
Apart from what women rights dictates in the western world. We all know the premise of rights in the western world is placed on individualism. I.e A person is free to do whatever he likes as long as he is within the ambit of the law whereas in the ideal Islamic Society and even African communities. The family and society trumps up first. This is a fundamental difference.

So women's right in Islam is quite different from what someone may call feminism. One tends towards the rights of an individual in a "vacuum" without considering the gender complexities of each while the other addresses women's rights as regards to what is best for the gender in particular, "family" and society at large.

^^Okay. I can agree with first paragraph. And last paragraph too is understandable in as much as women folks are conscious of Allah, otherwise things can spiral out of control as seen modern in times.

I know you have good intention but i am not supporting any form of feminism. It's bound to be hijacked even if it is for good course. Anyways, overall, Muslim women must be respected and there are lots of educated Muslim women out there.
You just spoilt everything by bringing up that word. So giving them what is due to them is feminism.? You should reread my earlier post. And my post is not about my personal intention. It is the unbridled fact.

I could agree with you more only if you perfectly outlined "change" you craved for. I do notice 2 undefined points @bold. So far, points you raised appear too vague and broad. They can be easily misunderstood especially the later.
Not talking about broad changes that give "unfettered and absolute freedom". Just allowing the natural course of action flow based on the current realities of the world and not twisting injunctions which are there to protect the female folks and using it against them.

Example is the injuction that two female accounts represents one under Islamic law. We all know this was instituted to prevent muslimah from giving distorted accounts as they are fragile and cave under pressure which makes their witness account questionable and needs the verification of another lady as against the general notion that women are deficient in thinking and two ladies equals a guy that people bandy around now.

We know the Ummah needs protection but shielding them from expressing themselves and reaching their potentials just in the hope that we can "control" and "assert" ourselves over them isn't protection.

Also it's a two way street, ladies who have been given such opportunities in the past should see it is an opening to make people see why ladies deserve greater freedom and more education as regards the improved family life such exposure would bring. The fears of most men who shield their female kids or wives from exposure is stemmed from majority of ladies who see education or such exposure as making them equal to their husbands in the home front thereby causing confusion. We aren't equals neither are we in a competition. The genders just have their differing roles and each should be allowed to have all the "resources" they need to make a success of such roles.

Exactly what most Muslims who can see beyond their fingers have been canvassing for.

Women are actually the one that raise generation after generation of Muslims but this primary source and the first point of education of a Muslim child in most homes is illiterate. opinions not expressed and generally lack the exposure to offer the kids the best of Moral, religious and social education because they themselves don't have these things and like the title of the thread "buried". You can't give what you don't have.

We have myriads of problems facing us in the current world like homosexualism, STDs, HIV/AIDs, adolescent pregnancy etc... but how do we educate and reinforce the belief of our children when the mother herself is shrouded and knows next to nothing.?

The majority of Muslim men in their chauvinistic nature can continue using fatwas, turning injunctions upside down so as to further their selfish purposes but the truth is we would continue in this same cycle and continuously hamper the development of future generations of Muslims until we change our ways and allow women their rightful place. The family is the basic, most fundamental and effective way of effecting change. But how do you do that when you have an absent father and a defective mother?

Another Nigerian Lawyer ruling on technicalities and not content.

Yeah. Nafadac may not have the right tools to test the veracity of the drug but that does not also make his claims real. We just like throwing caution to the wind and not reading between the lines.

When did it become the job of a lawyer to tell whether a drug would work or not?

What independent clinical test has this drug undergone before he started administering it to humans?

If he is so sure of the efficacy, he should undergo the right processes for such. There are always rules and guidelines for drug tests before they are approved. Many variables like the efficacy, reaction, safety, clinical proof of how it works, active ingredients used and their chemical components need to be sorted out before a drug can be sold on the staples.

Not someone waking up and telling us he can cure HIV. Na black man own dey always dey different.

Nothing wrong with it.

At that age she can't really recognize anything. She's just awed by the illumination and noise coming from the TV.

She would outgrow it. If are however concerned about it, you can subtly replace it with yoy dancing and singing for her. I read a research says kids respond well to such "interactive display" in comparison to recorded media which just relays the content without recourse to the child's reaction.

Not around the system currently but the general non customised video memory of that series is 128mb with a shared memory of 877mb.

I however ran F.E.A.R. a graphic intense game on the E6400 and it produced your average performance that you expect from a biz class laptop. Also it handled World of Warcarft pretty well; both games which are morr heavier than pes or fifa.

I love discussion its going maturedly. If I get ur point, you're canvassing for privatisation of the system.
I dont know their feasibility study or blueprint for the rail system but unlike the telecom. They may have in mind getting it working before privatizing. Whichever's their plan getting it working is not a bad idea.
They should privatise it if they can't give the people a better option. However critical infrastructure such as this can't just be laid in the private sector. Govt should build new standard lines just like they build airports and leave the running of the services to the private sector

A cost analysis of "getting it to work" cum its effectiveness would show you that it's better to discard this leprous hand and create a new effective hand. Feedback from even enthusisatic users of this shows a clear support for something new. See the closing quote of the op below esp. words in bold.

spyder880:
In summary, the railway authorities needs to wake up and address a lot of maintenance and technical issues with the rails. They should change personnel and systems. There are heavy delays for unnecessary reasons. People ask to be dropped off at places not designated as train stations and the officials agree. There were about six unofficial drops, they just inform the driver and he stops.

They seriously need to improve. I will score this railway authority 40% this train is not good for a businessman like me. Maybe they need to add another express line.
Would he patronise them again? I am sure never. Is that an achievement for government inspite of the billions spent? You know the answer already.

Driving on one way is never a mistake. Were you behind the wheels or not? You will be made to face the punishment and get a record too.
It can be a mistake if I am alien to the area and there are no clear road signs that shows it is a one way until I was caught. I just want you to understand that the comparison of cheating and murder is so extreme and crazily different.

As regards the topic here.

I believe everyone should take responsibility for their actions. A cheating partner maybe unaware of the larger consequences of their actions and upon realisation of this learn to reverse their ways and change. Humans are sometimes impulsive animals and may only weigh the consequences of their actions after the deed is done.

Do they atone for their pasts misdeeds in future? I can't say.

Can a cheat change. Yes of course.

What if I kill your child willingly and then realize my mistake. Does that count?
Why would you equate cheating to murder?

I may drive one way and thus commit a civil offence and excuse it as a mistake and still be pardoned. It's an offence against the state but you can't kill someone and excuse it as a mistake. You have not only committed an offence against the state but have taken the liberties of another human.

Iroh88:
I was getting irritated by the writer's bias, but when I got to the point below:
I couldn't stomach the irritation anymore.

Firstly, the writer made it sound as though it is INEC's fault some people have decided not to go out and collect their PVCs!! Of course not all eligible voters have theirs ready (which is a lapse that cuts across all the geopolitical zones), but the writer tried to make it look as though people from "Jonathan's strongholds" are the worst hit. Does he have a proof of that??

INEC published a data detailing the percentage PVC collection as against what has been made available across the country and one saw that Lagos, which constitutes one of the major advantages of the opposition, was lagging behind with barely over 50% of cards available collected so far, while states like Akwa-Ibom has very large percentage (84% there about). I bet the writer is ignorant of this!!! Does INEC have to coerce voters to go out and collect their PVCs?? The answer is, NO!

And back to the highly disgraceful quote above; the writer stated the incidences of violence the opposition has suffered as though it were some minor thing that could easily be waved aside, yet when he mentioned those suffered by PDP, he sounded like heaven was about to fall!! Tell me, since he chose to use the words apart from, let me join him in the game of "trivialising": now, "apart from" the burning of Jonathan's bus and the destruction of his campaign posters, what other casualty has PDP suffered?? People (APC members) were shot at at in PH and their secretariat bombed, but the writer imagines these are of lesser severity compared to burning of a bus and destruction of posters from the tone of his voice!!shocked

How bias can a journalist be!!!

This write up is one of such things that fuel the violence the writer wants to make us believe he's preaching against. The guy must be restrained before he causes more harm.

When I got to that quote, I stopped and decided to check out the link. I wasn't surprised when I saw the name of the writer.

Smh.

Barcanista, my ban ends today. Will be back guns blazing!!! Donphilopus I dey hail oo.
Just a read of the first paragraph gives the guy away. He gave it a "general and central title" to sound unbias and balanced but went off tangent by posturing who the readers should castigate or feel pity for. An unbiased article states the facts and allows the reader make their own deductions.

The environment does influence our future actions and the past does sip in sometimes but there are a thousand things that influences someone’s action or inactions.

If you want to base this on choosing a girl. Then you may as well not get married at all except you are looking to marry Female version of Angel Gabriel without a single taint because not a single girl out there who does not have one or two of those listed influences hanging over her head.
