Answer my questions though. What are OBJs achievements apart from killing all this political opponents and committing incest with his son's wife?

Before you condemn IBB look at your ugly brother first and count his achievements in office. What did OBJ achieve in office? Yet he wanted to rule for ever?

All these Abiola mobs must be stopped! Nonsense. cool

I know OnlytruthLies was old enough then to be part and parcel of the corruption that devalued our money by 1,177% in 8 years.

No my friend, you on the other hand is already in hell, because that is where your master Abiola is now.

This is 2010 and we are making tens of billions of dollars every month. So why is Naira at N140/$ ?
If when oil was under $20/barrel, we still had Naira at N21/$, why do we have all the money, but we can't improve Naira values?

Nigeria WILL NOT disintegrate under IBB. In fact that is the last thing that will happen. He kept Nigerian territory of Bakassi even under SAP and austerity measure due to low oil prices. Obasanjo gave it away with oil prices at $140/barrel. It's time people start thinking for once.

This Abiola lynch mob must be stopped.

Summarized:

Nigeria needs a man with vision, foresight and exceptional intelligence

Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos (IBB bridge)

The International Conference Centre, Abuja

National Assembly Complex

Aso Rock presidential Villa

National Directorate of Employment (NDE)

Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC)

National Electoral Commission (NEC)

Relocate the federal capital to Abuja, where he developed a modern city (Basically the boldest action a Nigerian leader has ever taken)

Establishment of the National Communication Commission (NCC -laid foundation for Cell phone revolution)

He encouraged the establishment of many banks (People's Bank etc)

Supported the political development of the country, through a two-party system (Could have stopped PDP domination)

NSO was divided into three divisions, the NIA, SSS and DIA (Keeps Nigeria secure)

I will add to this list, 'cos there is so much more. And yes more people were assissinated under Obasanjo than under IBB. And Yes Obasanjo also wanted to become life president. All Nigerian presidents will always like to rule for ever. Duh?

Are you for real? Or do you just believe everyone on nairaland are un-informed?

If you want to support IBB, fine, do that. But stop regaling us takes which are actualy only true from the opposite direction.

You talk about 20 dollar per barrel for oil. Do you know that thevalue of money in the 80s maybe 100 times what it was in the 90s.

IBB single handedly destroyed the value of the naira by going to take an IMF loan which the country dieg not need.

IBB laid the foundation for the terrible situation of " bribery and corruption" that Nigeria finds itself in which has become a multi headed monster that refuses to die.

What about the gulf-war oil windfall during the Iraq and US war. What about the assassination of Dele Giwa. I could go on and on.
My friend you sound like the choir! Don't just echo things without conducting independent research. Is that all he did?

Okay list OBJs achievements. List Jonathan's achievements. List Yar adua's achievements. All of them don't add up to IBB's achievements. All of them enjoyed oil prices above $70/barrel. Oil was at about $20/barrel under IBB.
Yet he built Abuja, Third Mainland Bridge, so many federal roads, set up powerful institutions of government like NIA, DMI and SSS, National Directorate of Employment, Federal Road Safety Commission, INEC (then NEC), . . .
I can't even list all of them here!  shocked shocked
He established the rationale for a two party system. If we had followed it, we won't have PDP stealing every elections today.
Government stopped when he left office!

I'm just recalling all of these things now because the Abiola lynch mob had dominated this discourse for far too long.
You can't even say what else IBB did wrong except June 12 and some unsubstantiated Dele Giwa murder. More people were assassinated under Obasanjo BY FAR, than under IBB.

Like I keep saying, my only problem with IBB before was this fear of staying in Office for ever, but then, which Nigerian leader had not schemed to rule for everhuhhuhhuh?

That is the point. Jonathan can even scheme to rule for ever if we let him. So IBB is no different in that regard.

I'm sure that many Nigerians have never REALLY thought about IBB's achievements in terms of building institutions of governance and building Nigeria as a whole, all with VERY meager resources. Nigeria was making about $12 - $15 billion annually then. Yet he built more infrastructure than Obasanjo who ruled as Nigeria made about $80 billion annually.

This Abiola thing is STEALING the future of this country. The sooner this is buried with the man the better for Nigeria.

I cannot see any other candidate better than IBB in this election. The man is head and shoulder above the rest.

Nigeria was making in a year then what Nigeria makes in a month today. Yet IBB built more infrastructures then.

Just look at IBB achievements! I just can't believe it! An edifice like the THIRD MAINLAND BRIDGE was build by IBB. Even everything that makes Abuja tick today was built by him.
Every institution of substance even INEC (was a remnant of his NEC). Nobody has made ANY improvements on IBB's achievements since he left office.

And he did these with oil at miserable international prices! Now imagine what he can do today with Nigeria swimming in oil money.

Why do you think Babangida would turn Nigeria around when some believe that since he could not do it as a military leader, where he had all the power, he cannot do it in a democracy, where he can’t act alone?

At this time, Nigeria needs a man with vision, foresight and exceptional intelligence. IBB is the man. A look at the many things he did for Nigeria, at a time the total national income for a year was smaller than what the country is earning in a month now, would explain my position. He did much to improve the infrastructural development of Nigeria. Edifices like the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos; the International Conference Centre, Abuja; construction of federal housing estates nation wide, National Assembly Complex, Abuja, Presidential Villa, Abuja, as well as many other bridges and buildings, are to his credit. In fact, he built Abuja and had the foresight to relocate the federal capital to Abuja, where he developed a modern city. His road projects are too numerous to be counted. He also did much for the economy, like creating room the GSM revolution, through the establishment of the National Communication Commission. He encouraged the establishment of many banks.

He also supported the political development of the country, through a two-party system. When we had the National Republican Convention (NRC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) everybody said that our democracy was stronger and stable. He establishment the national democratic institutes across the country. IBB strengthened security in the country, through the popular security reform he carried out. Under his reform, the NSO was divided into three divisions, the NIA, SSS and DIA. I’m sure that if IBB becomes next president of Nigeria, the issue of kidnapping, violent crimes and other vices will be a thing of the past in Nigeria.

Shock, disbelief heralds IBB’s presidential declaration

By Kingsley Omonobi & Chris Ochayi
ABUJA—THE successful presidential declaration of General Ibrahim Babangida at the Eagles Square, and the unprecedented crowd that attended it elicited shock and disbelief among the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Some of them were said to have expressed surprise that Babangida could still mobilize so many Nigerians.

Vanguard gathered that a suggestion was made to the PDP leadership to scuttle Babangida’s presidential declaration by fixing the party’s NEC meeting for 12 noon to coincide with the timing of the declaration and to cause confusion in the IBB camp.

It was further learnt that the national leadership of the party applied wisdom and kicked against the suggestion.
As early as 9.00 a.m, the Eagles Square had started receiving thousands of delegates from the 36 states of the country and Abuja with several of them brandishing placards and mobile billboards’ in support of General Babangida’s 2011 bid.

By 11. 07 am when General Babangida eventually made his grand entry into the square, accompanied by Chairman of the occasion by former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, one of his daughters and a retinue of aides, the ovation that greeted him almost brought down the rooftop of Eagle Square.

The next 10 minutes that followed was that of celebration, dancing, with various cultural groups representing people from the North, East South and West trying to outdo each other with cultural displays and dances, all in celebration of the man IBB.

As these delegates continued to troop into the square, the question on everybody’s lip was, will the governors, National Assembly members, at least from the North show up and not allow the massive turnout be blighted with insinuations that IBB was on his own?

These questions were eventually answered with time as firstly, the Governor of Niger state, Babangida Aliyu whom many media reports have touted to have dumped IBB for President Goodluck Jonathan, made a loud entry into the arena and climbed the podium to the ecstatic toothy smiles from former military President Babangida.

He was followed shortly by the governor of Zamfara state, Alhaji Aliyu Shikafi and moments after, both governors were joined by Adamawa state governor, Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd), with a large retinue of the aides, supporters and well wishers.

A sizeable number of both former National Assembly members as well as those who are currently serving were also there.

Security arrangements which enabled a hitch-free declaration, was very tight as plain clothes security operatives and the Nigeria Police personnel applied civility in screening supporters, delegates, and the various IBB organizations that entered Eagle square to show their support.

In his speech, Chairman of the IBB campaign Organization, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, welcomed the teeming crowd on behalf of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, noting that yesterday’s event had signaled the take off of IBB’s campaign and “by the special grace of God, we shall canvass the nooks and crannies of this country. We shall carry the message of General Ibrahim Babangida”.

His words, “We have in the last 17 years, witnessed a nation that has continuously decayed. We have witnessed a country where we have 16 generations of NYSC graduands who are unemployed. We have a situation where our institutions of education have collapsed. The health system has collapsed. The security of lives and property has been abandoned”.

“The country is at the verge of total collapse. We therefore need a leader, a leader that is courageous, a leader that is a nationalist, a leader that has experience, a leader that is capable of saving Nigeria . A leader that has a proven record of performance”.

To the youths in particular, he said, “It is in your power to install the President of the federal republic of Nigeria . It is your responsibility to make sure that we abide by the rules of our party as our party has zoned the presidency in 2007 to the north. Anybody attempting to steal it, we shall resist him”.

Bk.babe97, I won't dignify your ignorant rabble rousing.  If you think that what happened in 1966 was a conspiracy among the general Igbo population to kill those you mentioned, there is nothing I can say to you to change your mind. I can tell from your posting that you hate Igbo and that's your prerogative.  Nothing justifies the ethnic cleansing of the Igbo period.

In 1966, Ndigbo had more to lose than any other tribe in Nigeria. Nigeria had 4 regions, Igbo controlled two. Ndigbo controlled the economy of Nigeria, the civil service and the top echelon of the military.  The idealist military hawks that struck in 1966 were purely misguided and if they had consulted the Igbo at large, they would have been dissuaded from their misadventure.  The Igbos had it made in Nigeria and would have preferred the sustenance of the status quo if they were consulted. You think we are doing better now? In 1966 were on top of the world with fastest growing economy in the east and we controlled every good thing in Nigeria.

Try as you and your ilk may, you can't kill the indomitable Igbo spirit!
Nnanne biko ignore that herb chewing goat!

You have a point about your concerns. On another thread about Ojukwu visiting Jonathan and was snubbed, I strongly suspected (if that story is true) that he went to persuade him not to run because if something starts in Nigeria today, it must involve Ndigbo because of this new chief of army staff. I particularly raised this fear on that thread.

In this election, Ndigbo should be very careful and watch our leaders for guidance. Something is brewing in Nigeria and I don't like it. But if Ihejirika is smart, he will sit it out and stand out of the way of any trouble.
