ON THE CONTRARY, MY FRIEND, whether Christianity is a religion or not does not matter here, i think that is an excuse. WHAT MATTERS IS THAT YOU THINK GOD EXIST, if God exist, then he is composed of matter, though different from ours. BEING COMPOSED OF MATTER, HE CANNOT BE PERFECT, BEING IMPERFECT, HE DOES NOT FAVOR OUR SURVIVAL AND THEREFORE MUST BE ERADICATED. BECAUSE ATHEISM IS ONLY CONCEIVABLE, BECAUSE ATHEISM DOES NOT EXIST, YOU ARE AN ATHEIST WHENEVER YOU DO SOMETHING GOOD, SOMETHING RIGHT, SOMETHING NATURAL. ATHEISM BECOMES GLARING ON YOU WHENEVER YOU CONCEIVE FREEDOM. ATHEISM IS NOT A WAY OF LIFE BECAUSE ALL FORMS OF MATTER, LIVING OR NOT, ARE ATHEIST AS LONG AS THEY EXIST. ATHEISM IS TOO BROAD TO BE COMPLETELY UNDERSTOOD BY THE HUMAN MIND. TO EVEN BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND ATHEISM, LOOK AT NATURE, THEN YOU WILL CATCH A GLIMPSE OF WHAT ATHEISM IS. THIS IS WHY I OFTEN SAY THAT IT GIVES COMPLETE FREEDOM AND THAT IT FREES THE MIND. |

Logicboy03: Good. Nice reply
However, I do not believe perfection/perfect exists I have modified my post, pls read it above. Again to say that perfection does not exist is also right, BUT HERE IS SOMETHING YOU ARE TO UNDERSTAND, ATHEISM IS NOT A THING WITH A FORM OF EXISTENCE. IN QUANTUM PHYSICS SENSE, ATHEISM DOES NOT EXIST BECAUSE IT CANNOT BE OBSERVED. THEREFORE, ATHEISM IS ONLY CONCEIVABLE. FOR THIS REASON, ATHEISM IS NOT MATERIAL, UNLIKE GOD WHO IS MATERIAL (CONTAINS MATTER), THOUGH DIFFERENT FROM OURS (WHICH THEREFORE MAKES HIM IMPERFECT). ATHEISM IS NOT MADE UP, IT IS ONLY AN UNDERSTANDING, NOW, BECAUSE ATHEISM DOES NOT EXIST IN OR OUT OF THE UNIVERSE (GOD IS BELIEVED TO BE OUTSIDE THE UNIVERSE) BUT ONLY CONCEIVABLE, ATHEISM IN ITSELF IS THEREFORE PERFECT. |

Logicboy03: I agree with most of your comment but atheism is natural not perfect. Atheism should be the default state of mind WHEN I SAY ATHEISM IS PERFECT, I DIDNT MEAN ATHEISTS ARE PERFECT, I MEANT ATHEISM IN ITSELF IS PERFECT. YOU ARE ALSO PERFECTLY RIGHT TO SAY ATHEISM IS NATURAL, BUT AGAIN, NATURALLY, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ATHEISM, SO IT IS PERFECT. |

Atheist Revolution: How to Understand Atheists: A Guide for Christians atheismWhat is atheism? Are there really people out there who don't believe in any gods at all? What do they want, and what do they think of Christians?
Hi there. I'm an atheist, and I write the blog Atheist Revolution. I use the handle vjack because I live in an area dominated by fundamentalist Christians where my words could cost me my job, my friends, or even my personal safety. I'd like to provide you with a brief guide for understanding atheists.
What is Atheism?
You'd be surprised to learn how often this is misunderstood. Unfortunately, even some dictionaries have it wrong. As you know, theism refers to the belief in god(s). Monotheism involves belief in a one god, while polytheism means belief in many gods. On the other hand, atheism refers to the lack of theistic belief. That is, the theist believes in god(s) and the atheist does not.
Imagine that someone has grown up in extreme isolation and never heard of any sort of gods. That person would be an atheist by definition because he or she would lack theistic belief. You see, atheism does not require the atheist to have considered and then actively rejected theism. The typical atheistic position can be summed up as follows: the theist has not met his or her burden of proof in asserting theism. For the atheist, there simply isn't sufficient evidence to accept theism.
As you can see, atheism is not a religion, a philosophy, or a worldview. It is not the conviction that there are no gods. It is nothing more than the lack of theistic belief. Of course, most atheists believe all sorts of things. What they have in common is that they do not accept the theistic claim (i.e., that some sort of god or gods exist).
For more, see What is Atheism?
Why Don't Atheists Believe in God?
There are a number of reasons, and you are likely to hear different answers depending on who you ask. However, I think it is reasonably safe to say that there are two main reasons with which most atheists would agree:
Insufficient evidence. As noted above, most atheists will tell you that the religious believer has failed to meet his or her burden of proof on the question of god(s). That is, the person arguing for the existence of god(s) has not provided sufficient evidence to support the claim that such entities exist. Incoherence of the god concept. Many atheists will explain that it is not clear to them what exactly they are being asked to believe. In other words, they find the very concept of a god or gods to be logically incoherent or nonsensical.
What Do Atheists Want?
Like any other large and diverse group, atheists want different things and it is difficult to pin down a shared platform. I have encountered atheists who are extremely conservative, opposing abortion, same-sex marriage, and many of the same things fundamentalist Christians would oppose. I have ran across others who believe in ghosts and a variety of other paranormal phenomena.
Once we understand what atheism means, it should be clear how diverse atheists can be. Having said that, I think that most atheists have at least a few things in common on which we would agree.
What Do Atheists Think About Christians?
Again, we are a fairly diverse bunch, so opinions will vary. Some atheists are extremely anti-Christian; others value the teachings attributed to Jesus as much as many Christians do and just dispense with the supernatural components. Most atheists condemn Christian extremism, even though there is considerable disagreement about how much of a threat it poses to democracy.
I have written what I think about Christians, so that will give you one perspective. I have also attempted to explain why I find it perfectly reasonable to believe that most Christians are good people. http://www.atheistrev.com/2012/06/how-to-understand-atheists-guide-for.html |

After reading the story posted by striktlymi, here are my analysis of this man who left atheism.
[quote author=
Of course, that kind of life and conviction led me to do and say things and to be something that was really very unpleasant. I lived a life that was immoral and which reflected a lack of belief in God. I lived in a way that was very self-centered and that satisfied my own pleasures and desires regardless of whether or not other people were hurt in the process of what I was doing. In the process of doing this, I did a lot of things that affected me through my whole life. It is because of this that I present these materials hoping that perhaps some of you will not make the mistakes and suffer the consequences that I have suffered. I cannot clearly remember all of the events that took place or the proper sequence of events because I was not taking notes. I never expected that I would be trying to recall these things, much less tell someone else about them. Still, I can recall in a general way much of what happened, and I am very sure of the concepts. The concepts are what will be most useful to you.
[quote author=I guess the reason that I was an atheist is the same reason that many of you are believers in God if you are. That was because I had been indoctrinated in that particular persuasion. My background, the variables that were exposed to me as a child, led me very strongly in that direction. Just as many of you believe in God because your parents believe in God and because they instilled this belief in you, I also questioned, challenged, and rejected God because that was the kind of indoctrination that I received as a child. I can remember my mother saying to me as a child something like, “Do you really believe there is an old man, floating around in the sky, blasting things into existence here upon the earth? Do you really believe that crummy looking structure on the corner could be something beautiful called ‘the church?’ Do you really believe that there is a hole in the ground that I am going to be thrown into and burned eternally if I do not live just the way some preacher thinks I ought to?” Of course, I could not conceive of these things as a child and did not know enough to realize they are not what the Bible teaches. Consequently, I came to believe that anybody who believed in God was just silly, superstitious, ignorant, and unlearned. You may wonder how it would be possible for a person coming out of this type of background and kind of learning situation to become a strong believer in God today, devoting his life to trying to help people to understand that there is a God in heaven and that the Bible is his literal and verbally inspired Word. It is the purpose of this booklet to try and point out at least some of the things that entered into my acceptance of God, Jesus Christ, and the Bible as God's Word.
Having said all he has to say, he has shown that he is totally a very evil and immorally person naturally. He believes he needs some fear of hell, and some believe in an afterlife to be a good person.
We atheist believe that if you cannot be moral and good without having the fear of hell or expecting a kind of reward in paradise, then you are totally an evil person. I am not surprised such a person became religious again, he does not have enough gut to remain an atheist. He is mentally impaired, he needs a God to keep him on track. Most lasting atheist are naturally good.
ACCORDING TO THE SECOND PARAGRAPH OF MY HIGHLIGHT ABOVE, I THINK THAT NOW, MY POINT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS MAN WAS NEVER AN ATHEIST WITH REASON, HE ONLY FOLLOWED THE PATH HE WAS INDOCTRINATED INTO. HE HAD NO REASON TO BE AN ATHEIST. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS TO PEOPLE WHO LIVE LIFE WITHOUT REASON, THEY FALL OFF THE RIGHT PATH, AND THEY START WORSHIPING GODS.
FOR THE REST OF HIS STORY: ACCORDING TO WHAT I READ, THIS MAN HAS NO PERSONAL CONVICTION OF WHAT NATURE IS. HE HAS NO PERSONAL SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND, HE BELIEVED ONLY WHAT THE PROFESSORS SAY, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A PERSON DOES NOT THINK, THEY BECOME RELIGIOUS. PEOPLE LIKE HIM ARE NOT NEEDED TO REGARD THEMSELVES AS ATHEIST.
I DO NOT FEEL ATHEISM HAS LOST A PERSON BECAUSE THIS MAN WAS NEVER AN ATHEIST WITH PERSONAL REASON, HE WAS AN ATHEIST BECAUSE HE WAS INDOCTRINATED INTO IT AS HE SAID.
I CANNOT SHARE THE SAME IDENTITY WITH PEOPLE WITHOUT REASONING CONSCIOUSNESS, THIS MAN IS A MAN WITHOUT A REASONING CONSCIOUSNESS, I DO NOT FEEL ANY LOSS OR THREAT.
ATHEISM IS PERFECT IN ITSELF |

scarred: Why don't you all just agree to disagree. There is a common need between Religion and Science, that none of the commentators on this thread seem to realize, and that need is a search for Truth. The starting points of both, however differ, whilst at the same time both claim to be able to achieve and define the mysteries of 'everything'.
The starting point of any Religion is 'faith', which by its very definition is antithetical to the starting point of Science. When you realize this, you realize that this exercise is pointless. Science will posit a theory, and for better or worse will work towards proving or disproving that theory, Religion accepts on 'faith', what science says must be proven, so why would you waste your time on this.
I am more of the opinion that there is a larger question being asked by the Thread itself, that we can concern ourselves with. Religion never searches for truth, it believes its the truth |

No evidence for evolution? descent by modification? what about this similarities?
I know some people can say it is a work of design, but before you spit that out, pls tell me why a God would want to make a monkey look like his own children created in his image, except God himself looks like a monkey.
Evolution say we are family, and this is confirmed by the fact that we share genes, more than 99%.

A man talks about how he saw the light and became an atheist Stewman: Hello,
My ultimate objective here is to obtain constructive criticism and likely religious counter arguments to the argument that brought me out of my Christian faith. The following paragraph gives a bit of my history. If one wishes, it may not be necessary or useful to read that, and so, you may find it more beneficial to skip to paragraph three.
I am new to this foundation. My wife and I have very recently abandoned our Christian faith. We were not simply bystanders in our faith either. I have evangelized many times. I have even evangelized right on the street. I am a first rate student in engineering about to start graduate school, and so I have some scientific background. I was raised with very common evangelical beliefs such as the Earth is ~10,000 years old, the Bible is literally true, evolution is nonsense, etc. I have never trusted myself a great deal, and as I progressed in my career and education I became astounded by the sheer number of very intelligent people who held orthogonal beliefs. This frightened me. For why should I be so lucky as to be the one person who actually had it right? This led me to delve more sincerely than ever into questioning the beliefs I had been raised to believe. I am very familiar with apologists such as Dr. William Lane Craig, C. S. Lewis, and N. T. White. I watched atheistic scientists debate creationists. I am well versed in a wide range of topics, but I can't be an expert in biology, archaeology, physics, biblical history, ancient history, and philosophy. Despite some of my ignorance, it didn't take much sincere searching to conclude that the Bible was not literally true, but becoming convinced that Yaweh is not god was much harder. Let me give you the argument that broke my religious convictions, and see problems or weaknesses in it. I ask you this, because I am tied in emotional and financial ways to intelligent religious persons who will relentlessly assault my abandonment of Christianity. Here is the argument.
No evidence can exist to indicate the existence of only any one specific god. This is because any evidence that supports the existence of any one god is also evidence that supports an infinite number of other gods. Take this for example. Let us imagine that there is a god called Joe. This god is sort of like a psychotic artist. Joe just likes messing with people. He performs some miracles at will, and he gave all world religions their start. He actually does create Jesus, and he is born by the Virgin Mary. Joe raises Jesus back to life. He also creates an angel to talk to Mohammed, and he gives golden plates to Joseph Smith, etc. Oh and by the way Joe is going to send us all to hell regardless of how we live our lives.
Any evidence that applies to Jesus, or Mohammed, or any other religion is also evidence for my made-up god, Joe. In fact, there are an infinite number of gods for which the evidence from any religion could fit. One may be inclined to say: "That is absurd! Such a god is very unlikely." But why? There is no reason why such a god cannot exist. We cannot even make a statement of the probability of such a being.
Here's why this broke down my Christian beliefs. This argument avoids the problem of finding out who's right and who's wrong about evidence. It proves, as far as I can see, that there cannot exist evidence for only any one specific god, and therefore, belief in any one specific god cannot be based on evidence, and it is therefore based solely on faith.
This was problematic for me, because suicide bombers also live their lives based on faith. In fact, suicide bombers are some of the most faith-filled people who have ever lived. I had always fancied that my beliefs had more going for them than the suicide bomber's, but they didn't. This life that I have, the way I treated others, the way I raise my family, and the way I vote were all determined by pure faith despite there being objective facts regarding the welfare of others and society (I'm thinking of Sam Harris's work here).
My own counter argument to this at first was to say: "Well, everything is based on some faith, even science". But this is incorrect because science simply describes, predicts, and models reality. That is, the things that each of us really experience. This is not based on faith. There is no faith needed to know that if I drop a pencil it will fall toward the Earth. If the current laws of physics did change with time or space, then that would still not require faith, science would simply give the laws of physics as functions of time and space. Therefore I concluded, rightly I hope, that there cannot be evidence for God and that faith forces me to act in a way which gives no regard to objective facts about the well-being of myself and others.
Thanks for making it through that mini-book, if you did! Sorry for how long it is, but I think it's all necessary. I intend living this life as a promoter of scientific education and as an aggressive opponent to religious beliefs deciding morality and public policy.
