I live in the MCC Road area of Owerri, and light in my area had greatly improved. The bitter thing is that we must use Gen set, as the light normally goes off around 7pm daily. I wish they'd provide us with prepaid metres, so as to stop this over estimated bills they give us. |

Politics › Re: What Has Rochas Achieved In Imo State by OperaMini1(m): 10:48am On May 19, 2012 |
FACE: Of course I have my reservations regarding some of his policies, but it would be foolhardy to insinuate that he has achieved nothing in the short spell of his administration.
For starters, I am not very sure whether he thought through some of his socialist moves. The free kerosene was a one off, so I will cut him some slack on that as that was a gesture to the public that his administration will consider their needs.
The free education was also a good idea for primary and secondary schools, but I think that free education for Imo indigenes in Imo State tertiary institutions should have been replaced with a scholarship/bursary scheme, which would be academic, sports, arts or means tested.
Imo state is already the most educated state in Nigeria by a mile and people are already going to school without any inducement and many people try to go to school regardless of the cost, therefore the free education across the board was a huge relief and enough incentive and there was no need to also give monthly stipend and blanket yearly bursary/loans to Imo students. The payment scheme to the students is unnecessary and probably unsustainable, but we will wait and see. it seems u know this govt. so well? Can you pls explain what this Community Govt. stuff is all about? Now, in the short spell of his administration, he has changed the way things were done in the past. For the first time in a long while all areas of Imo are receiving attention and roads are being constructed in all local governments. Orlu and Okigwe are receiving attention with regards to their roads and some of the roads in those areas are being converted to dual carriages.
The Owerri ring road which has been on the master plan since God knows when is also being worked on. Ohakim started the actual construction with the flyovers at Orji and Amakohia, but Rochas has continued the project from where he stopped. Several bad roads in Owerri have also been fixed and schools are also receiving attention, with buildings being upgraded.
There are various ongoing projects in the state capital and the site for the 23 storey five star hotel has been cleared in Area N with actual construction due to start soon. Imo’s status as a top hospitality destination in the country is indisputable and I support the construction of this hotel. Although there are many classy hotels in Owerri, I once found my self going from hotel to hotel trying to get an accommodation, so more hotels are welcome.
According to the state government, the 9 storey Concorde hotel has now being turned around from a loss making to a profit making hotel. The hotel is also being expanded to include the chalets which were originally meant to be part of the commissioners’ quarters. Rochas said that this hotel now makes enough money to offset most of the wages of the ministry of culture and tourism. And the goal of the government is to make the ministry to be self sustaining while bringing some revenue to the state. This is also his goal for other ministries.
No too long ago, the governor also laid the foundation for the tile factory in Mbano and he is also giving attention to the moribund ones and trying to get investors to resuscitate those industries. Avutu poultry is one of those industries.
According to the state government, the PPA on Imo Transport Company has brought in more than 200 million naira to the state government and the management compay has also expanded and employed more people in the state.
The agreement with a foreign company to manage ADAPALM has so far brought more than 3 billion naira to the state government and the management company has increased production and also employed more people.
Finally, although the government has been unnecessarily socialist in some of the recurrent expenditure, the administration is also trying hard to generate as much revenue as possible and to provide an environment for private investments to flourish. |

Beaf: Nigeria: Jonathan to Reshuffle Cabinet By Dave Oludare Oso, 7 May 2012
INDICATIONS that President Goodluck Jonathan may reshuffle his cabinet has emerged, The Moment has learnt. Among the people being considered by the president in a list he sent to the State Security Services for screening are former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo; ex-Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife; former Special Adviser on the Niger Delta, Mr. Timi Alaibe, former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Hamisu Mai Rago; the immediate past acting National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Kawu Baraje. Others are former PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Rufai Alkali; former PDP National Organising Secretary, Uche Secondus; former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Ada Okwuonu and former PDP National Legal Adviser, Olusola Oke. The screening of the nominees, The Moment learnt will begin this week. Expectedly, intense lobbying has started by both the serving ministers, who wants to retain their seats and the aspiring ministers. According to our source, the people have started lobbying the National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur and other key figures in the Peoples Democratic Party like Chief Tony Anenih, a former Chairman of the party's board of trustees and Chief Edwin Clark, a respectable South-South leader. The nomination of Alaibe, according to The Moment's findings, is generating most anxieties in government circles, as people are curious of what will become the fate of Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Deziani Allison, who like Alaibe, is from Bayelsa, the President's home state, since only one nominee can emerge from the state. Alison-Madueke was appointed by the late President Umar Yar'Adua as a minister in 2007, and like Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, the Minister of National Planning, who was appointed by Jonathan in 2010, may not retain her position, just as others in the 2010 class; Ruqayyat Rufai (Education), Segun Aganga (Trade and Investment), Caleb Olubolade (Police Affairs)Bala Muhammed (Federal Capital Territory) and Emeka Wogu (Labour.) It is also expected that the President will remove his National Security Adviser (NSA), General Andrew Azazi (retd.) and replace him with Ekpeyong Ita, the current Director-General of State Security Service, (SSS.) The PDP was embarrassed by the statement credited to the NSA that the party was responsible for the Boko Haram crisis and insecurity in the country and has been putting pressure on the President to replace him (Azazi.)
http://allafrica.com/stories/201205071133.html I've always known that our National Recycle Bin is super active, always busy. What has this crop of people got to offer again? It seems Edwin Clark's name was ommitted from this list, and that Ezeife is being settled cos he has made so much noise about Igbo Presidency in 2015. Nwodo that was not fit to lead the PDP, is now being found worthy to head a national ministry. Shame on this nation. |

maclatunji: This scandal generates several questions:
1. Has President Jonathan broken the Code of Conduct for public officers in Nigeria?
2. If he has, what is the punishment for the offence?
3. Does he have enough decorum to resign since he has no legitimate right to punish any of his subordinates for corruption when for all intent and purposes, he is no better than them?
4. If he fails to resign, are we the people of Nigeria forthright enough to remove him from office?
5. Can we as a people really move forward if we continue to condone such corruption and misdemeanour?
6. Compare this situation to the that of Hungary: do you think the world takes us seriously with our nonchalant attitude towards such issues of breach of trust and integrity from our leaders? Bros, abeg 4get that resignation issue. Me and you no say it's not applicable here. |
