We woke up to the news of Atiku jetting out of the country again and this time around to the US in continuation of his campaign. Since he launched his campaign, Atiku has only visited two states for his campaign - both in SS. One would have expected a serious presidential candidate to intensify his campaign here or at least, join Obi to visit the flood victims and wear the PDP's full campaign regalia like Obi is doing - sympathizing with the victims and campaigning at the same time . What can be smarter than that? Cheap campaign strategy. Unfortunately, Atiku's advisers told him to go international with his campaign and before the advice was even fully delivered, Atiku and the other musketeers following him were already on US soil.
My question is, who is Atiku campaigning to in the US? How can you leave the voters (Nigerians in Nigeria) and chose to focus on foreigners when diaspora voting is not yet allowed? Even in the US where diaspora voting is allowed, how many times has any of the US presidential candidates come to Nigeria or elsewhere to campaign?
First, let us note that this section of the interview was about security and the menace of banditry.
We begin at 33:09
FULL TRANSCRIPT OF THE SECTION OF ARISE INTERVIEW WITH PETER OBI @TONYEBARCANISTA POSTED
Rufai: OK, but Mr Peter Obi, it is not as easy as you just said it is. Should I tell you why? Because you have to buy more guns to fight the bandits that don't make people farm on the farmlands, to fight the bandits that killed 100 farmers in Zababare, to fight the legacy issues of infrastructure that would inhibit production, and a lot of people keep asking, you keep talking about production but as a businessman you used to import a lot into this country, those are some of the things they hold against you. You talk about production but you're a big net importer into this country. And, how will you solve those legacy issues? That's why we talked about security.
Peter Obi cuts in...
Peter Obi: Let me tell you, I talked about security, let me tell you, Rufai. I've been going around this country. I've visited 5 prisons and I can invite you to go to one with me. I sat down with some when I went into a prison, there were 1000 people and I interviewed 100.
Why were you involved in kidnapping? I have no job! Why were you involved in cultism? I have no job! Why were you involved in kidnapping? I have no job!
And I said to them, how much were you paid in the last operation? Rufai, you won't believe it, N30,000, N25,000, N100,000. What this shows is that if these people can have a steady income of N50,000, they won't be involved in that. The more you pull people out of poverty, I've said repeatedly, the more you reduce criminality. We have these things in Brazil. I can show you countries where it has been practised. All these agitations and criminality were all over the place in Brazil until Brazil decided to do what I am telling you now, investing in these people. It means these things I'm going to do is going to reduce this criminality because they will be part of the farmers earning income. Today bandits are taking 8 local Governments in Niger state, I'm telling you if you put money in the farther land of Niger state, you'll reduce them by 50%. Because they've found something they're doing that'll give them money. What else do they want?
Rufai cuts in....
Rufai: You talked about Brazil, are you going to do social investment because it is under .....(Inaudible - PO and Rufai were speaking at the same time)
Peter Obi: I might not, I will do a combination of everything. There's a combination of everything. You're not going to do one straight thing. It's a combination of everything that will say, we are going to pull these people out of poverty, because the more we do it, so we deal with those legacy issues. On the issue of what my importation is, let me tell you what I did and I'll like to refer to Reuben cos I've known Reuben for over 30 years. Go and ask anybody what my business is, that is what I even studied. If you go and read what I studied at Harvard, it's market-to-market management. I'm marketing, I'm a distributor. Go and ask Coca-Cola, they're in Nigeria, ask other people as at the time I was in business, I was one of their biggest distributors. It's like seeing Walmart, Walmart today sells goods from Vietnam, India, etc but they don't manufacture them. My job is not to manufacture, although I invested in manufacturing companies too, my job is distribution so I distribute. When I was doing business, less than a quarter, 25% of what I sell are imported goods, the rest are manufactured goods. It's a mixture so that when you go into the supermarket, you'll see local products and others. And, I was productive.
We stopped at 37:12
TonyeBarcanista, we understand your desperation and you're truly deserving of our pity. What else can you do when your party don't have anything to campaign with?
oyebanji44: This one beat Obidient 's fake l million man match in ph
With all the zombidients noise, they didn't gather 1/3rd of this crowd in any of their rallies/walks in SS/SE. Interestingly, Abe is a Tinubu's man and will campaign for him.
lansile: Look well, that water is beyond any drainage system. It's actually a national problem, Nigeria must construct a particular dam to prevent that flood occuring ocassionaly. Too bad he had a chance to contribute to that project but because what they will put into their accounts and inside tanks and suckaways is more important to them, now they have to face their demons
Keep providing excuses for failure. Any problem in your region is beyond the power of your leaders but the same you will be quick to blame leaders from other regions even for hot weather in their areas.
dexmond: OP the right thing to do is not to use public office for personal benefit. By not using public office to develop their own communities to the exclusion of other communities, OBJ and GEJ showed that they are exemplary.
Unfortunately, politicians of Northern extraction use public resources to build their own communities to the exclusion of others. Thus, making people like OP to be somewhat right.
Where do I stand since its like this? I support politicians of Southern extraction concentrating infrastructural projects in the South, while engaging in human capital projects in the North. This is how I see things.
There is nothing personal or selfish about developing your community and saving your people from an impending disaster after all it is a Nigerian community and the people there are Nigerians. If you don't do it, who will? Why do you have representatives in government from your state, LG, etc? Isn't it to ensure your interests are protected? So, you expect a lawmaker representing Gudu/Tangaza constituency in Sokoto or Jonathan's VP (who is from Kaduna) to be the one fighting for the ecological problems in Otuoke?
Today, I visited Otuoke, my community and a few other communities in Bayelsa State to have an assessment of the impact of the flood. It is still a depressing situation in many of the affected communities because of the magnitude of the flood and the disruption and destruction it has caused. This is a moment of crisis; we need to work in unity to achieve the goal of giving hope and providing succor to all victims. I urged all citizens of goodwill and humanitarian agencies to demonstrate solidarity with these victims and provide support to those affected. - GEJ
This man was president of Nigeria for 6 years. The only thing he did in Etuoke was building a mansion for himself without even thinking about the susceptibility of the area to flooding. Today, the mansion is underwater and not habitable. Our leaders lack foresight and easily get carried away by all the noise that goes with being a president. Obasanjo was president for 8 years. He didn't remember to reconstruct the road leading to Otta. Today, Obj is complaining about the state of the same road he neglected while in office and had all the power to fix.
To Jonathan, enjoy your continued stay in IDP camp
The country has witnessed walks in key cities for some presidential aspirants. Notable among these are the walks for Tinubu in Lagos, Ibadan, Oshogbo, Ekiti, Ondo, Benin, Asaba, Abakaliki, Owerri, Kogi, etc and Obi's walks in south-east and south-south cities. We haven't, however, seen any excitement around Atiku's candidacy anywhere in the country. Even the north doesn't seem attracted to his candidacy and therefore has not seen any street walks for him in any major cities of northern Nigeria. Yes, walks are southerners' inventions which the politically sophisticated northern Nigeria may not see any need for. However, what about the south? Are we saying Atiku doesn't have any supporters in the south who could organize a successful walk for him?
Treasure17: Tinubu as the president of Federal Republic of Nigeria will never make sense to me. It's like appointing MC Oluomo as the Vice Chancellor of University Of Lagos. O wrong. His public utterances are red flag.
Better restructure and activate your brain so a Tinubu presidency can begin to make sense to you. He is your next president.
The only bigot are you people hating on Tinubu who didn't rule you or your papa. Last I knew it was Peter Obi who was previously in federal administration. Obi failed as a governor and as a part of Gej's federal administration
Each time I read about Obi's ambition to rule Nigeria, I wonder who on earth is giving him the hope and effrontery to keep pushing for what is obviously beyond his reach. Yes, he is a Nigerian, and as such, he is qualified to contest for the highest office. However, legal qualifications shouldn't be misconstrued to mean "eminent qualification". The word eminence means a state of being famous, respected, or important according to the Cambridge dictionary. Can we say, in the real sense of it, that Obi is eminently qualified for this position? To be eminently qualified and have a chance, you must be famous and respected across many divides in the country. By divides I mean tribes, regions, religions, and political classes. Putting Obi on these scales, he doesn't at all appear as a contender in this race but is probably only a detractor to some interests in the political space.
Despite this, Obi and his handful of supporters keep bragging and making noise. Some of them even climbed Kilimanjaro and mounted the LP/Obi flag there. What can be more hilarious than this? Of what relevance or effect is a few misguided elements mounting the LP flag on Kilimonjaro? The same elements that destroyed and keep destroying our image across the world - in SA, Ghana, UK, US, Europe, Asia, and now UAE. Even people doing legitimate business can't easily secure a visa to go to Dubai again courtesy of those calling for their kinsman to be president of the country. These guys failed to build bridges across tribes, regions, and religions. They failed to repent and apologize to Nigerians and the rest of the world for their illicit exploits everywhere they go. Suddenly they want the rest of Nigeria to vote for them and even hoping we would vote overwhelmingly for one of theirs. No be juju be that?
Beremx: American soldiers coming to Nigeria to find terrorists. That’s to show how the level of insecurity has worsened. It will be worst if Tinubu becomes president. God forbid!!
The Lagos Tinubu ruled is the most secure in Nigeria today. What's the basis of your assertion? Sentiment? Oponu
Chinjo2: See what Ayade is wearing. Very irresponsible Governor. For your information, It Wike that bullied Ayade and Umahi out of PDP now they have gone to beg him to join APC.
Do they have to beg him to join the APC? Wike has no other option at this time than to align with the APC. No serious politician will even consider the LP as an option.
Dalnadoni: The rate at which the naira is losing value made me wonder how things would have been like if #500 note is our highest denomination we have in Nigeria. Common #100 can't buy any reasonable thing in this country.
I think the inclusion of #1000 note made things really expensive and if there were to be #5000 note, things would have been worse.
Where did we get it wrong? Which naira note do you think should have been our highest denomination? And do you think #5000 note would have been a good idea in this country considering our present economy? What do you think should be done to make the naira strong again?
Who carries notes around again? Notes value will only have implications for looters and those who are into illicit activities. The highest denomination should be N100 to further frustrate these sets of people and also further encourage the move to cashless economy.
They don't want a rejected deity that will come and desecrate their Emir's palace.
So, you expected everybody to be on the road everywhere he passes through in Kano for the 3 days he spent there? Even a president doesn't get that anywhere in the world. IPOB members and their warped reasoning.
muykem: Please help me to prevent my partner from committing suicide. I want Nigerian to hear our story of a fraudulent company established by Akwa state government called "stringe manufacturing company " in Onna Akwa state. It was established by the current governor and sited in his LGA. The company gave us LPO in March 2022 to supply Diesel. We borrowed money and did the supply the same March. They supposed to pay by May according to the terms and conditions on the LPO but till today no payment. We have done everything humanly possible but to no avail. My partner is facing a serious threat from people that borrowed us money for the supply so he hinted me that he may consider suicide if the pressure continues. Please somebody should link me with some of big journalists who can help us and your advice is also welcome.
I hope Tinubu is not the cause of this... Instead of you to face your state governments and make them work in your interest, Tinubu in Lagos is your problem. Tomorrow, the same you would come on air to say the Akwa governor is the best person to lead Nigeria
sanusideunifier: The handwriting is clear that the north and south, east and west no longer want to risk theiir future with a man whose health is worsening every day. Away from Tinubu's fast-failing health, many Nigerians are badly disappointed that Tinubu has glaringly refused to clear his name of drug peddling charges and underworld link allegations, produce his primary and secondary school records at least mention his school name, classmates or teachers. He has other mountains of corruption charges and others bordering on his over twenty foreign accounts where Lagos money is being siphoned daily. How can we risk the future of a battered country like Nigeria by supporting a known thief? The Kano rally answers it all. "Don't support what will kill you. Avoid such rally if your brain is intact." The lastest pressure from family, friends and party members is for Tinubu to do what is considered honorable by stepping down to support a much younger and towering Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi. Will Tinubu listen to this kind advice? Let's watch as events unfold.
Cheap hard weed is not good for your health. Stop taking it especially in the morning
