​Edgal Imohimi, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, on Friday said six out of ten young people in Lagos were cultists.

He stated this at a town hall meeting with some residents of Surulere area of the state.

The forum was on “ Partnership with Community for Crime Prevention.’’

Imohimi called for state of emergency on cultism, saying that cultism among youths in Lagos was alarming.

The Commissioner said, “I instructed one of my officers to carry out a research on the reason for increase in cultism among the young ones, and it was revealed that it gives them a kind of advantage over their peers.”

He added that, “For some, they joined to avoid being intimidated. Whatever reason it is, the blame is on us parents for not caring enough about our children.”

Imohimi appreciated the residents of Surulere for their support in crime fighting and criminality in their community, adding that the level of criminal in the area has drastically reduced.

He urged the residents of Surulere to continue to provide useful information to the police in their area, urging them to report any “unprofessional” conduct of police officers.

He also called on parents and guardians to monitor their children’s movement to prevent them from being used as political thugs during the forthcoming general elections.

Imohimi added, “The election year is approaching and it is time we started talking to ourselves. Do not allow politicians to come and use your children as touts.

“All you need to do is get your PVC and vote peacefully. Let us not allow some people come from elsewhere to disrupt the peace in Lagos.’’

​Taraba Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, on Tuesday appealed to youths in the state to support his second term bid.

“I want you (the youth) to go out during the election and re-elect us. I will empower you to be millionaires; you will be exporting milk and meat; you will be driving Mercedes Benz, instead of Keke NAPEP,” he said.

The Nation reports that Ishaku spoke during his third year anniversary and Democracy Day celebration held at the Jolly Nyame stadium Jalingo.

He said: “Today, over 3000 youths have been employed and thousands empowered through the Rescue Mission’s skills acquisition programme.

“Those empowered are now self-reliant and have become employers of labour. The story of one Aisha is a good example. She was empowered; she later employed a widow and five other persons and her business is still running.

“When you elected me in 2015, you did not know me well. Now, you know who Ishaku is; now, you know who DDI is, who Daram Dam Dam is, because of what I have done for you

“Some Germans came to invest in tourism in the State, on getting to the mountain in Gembu, they were crazy. But upon hearing news of attacks and killings, they all left,” he said.

He said, apart from tourism, he has achieved tremendously in all other sectors, including agriculture, education, health and infrastructure, adding that the Nigerian Medical Association gave him award because of the hospital he built in Wukari and the ongoing reconstruction of the hospitals in Bambur and Gembu.

My name is Dahe. I struggled to graduate from the university. I made first class. After that, I got a job that pays 120k per month. But there is this problem with the job. You work like the bull and hardly have time for yourself. I sometimes sleep in the office just to beat time. It's work all through from morning till night.

My girl gratuated with a 2.1 honours and I attended her graduation ceremony where I met her parents live. After some weeks, her father called me to ask me about my plans with her daughter, I did not hide anything, and he told me to act fast.

A month later, I called him to inform him of my plans to marry his daughter the coming Christmas, but only that money was the big issue. He told me to go on with my plans that he will take care of everything. I jumped at it and we wedded. He took care of everything starting from invitation card to reception.

He refurnished my house in Abuja and transferred three years rent sum to my landlord's account. He paid in advance. Our first child came, still I and my wife are jobless. My In-law takes care of us.

I wanted to be in charge of my home but the man kept interfering, making the daughter to take a contrary decision on crucial matters.

My wife no longer takes my advice, what do I do? I need your candid advice on this matter. Please help me!

Leading opposition party in Lagos State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is currently shopping for a governorship candidate ahead of the 2019 elections in the state.


Lagos is the only state which the PDP had not governed in the South-West since the Fourth Republic began in 1999.

New Telegraph exclusively learnt that the party had set up a search party being led by the state chairman, Hon. Moshood Salvador, some notable members of the chapter’s Elders’ Council, zonal ex-Officio, among others, to produce a credible, widely acceptable and popular party man to fly its flag in the next gubernatorial poll.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, is expected to seek a second term on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

A source, however, who preferred to be anonymity, said the party was in a dire need of a candidate that would first be accepted by vested interest in the party and be presentable to Lagosians as an alternative to Ambode.
