My own recommendations; 1) 50% of the people in Lagos have no business being there, they should go back to there State in a gradual programme over three-five years. 2) The FG should encourage and partner with Ondo, Bayelsa and Akwa-Ibom States to build seaports along their coastal lines. Highways/Bridges should be constructed from these Seaports to the nearest major/commercial towns. 3) We should gradually stop or minimize the importation of virtually everything into this country and start Industrialization policy. Ten Factories should be built within each Geopolitical zone that will utilize the raw materials in each zone. For instance, Tyre manufacturing companies can be built in Delta and Edo States which will make use of the quality rubber produced there. Juice processing factories can be built in Ogbomoso,Oyo State to add values to the tons of Mangoes and Cashew being grown there (half of which waste yearly). Milk production and other dairy products companies should be built at Hadeijia or Dutse in Jigawa State while Sugar Refinery should be built in Jega, Kebbi State. Bricks and ceramic factories can be built around Nkpor, Anambra State. 4) The FG in conjunction with the Ogun State Government and the private sector including Nigerians in Diaspora should build 15 storey apartment buildings around Agbara, Ojudu-Berger and Akute areas that can house at least 500,000 people working in Lagos COMPAQ: The Maisonette in the estate behind Femi Okunnu is about N80mln and government will say its delivering affordable housing!!
Housing in Lagos is way more expensive than it needs to be. If LASG want to help, they should build high rise 1, 2 and 3 apartment building, nothing overly fancy for middle class just starting out.
However I am not sure there can be any really affordable housing for our version of the common man. Even if a 2bed flat is N20mln or rent is N1mln per year, that's still too much for the so called common man in Nigeria.
While Lagos properties are expensive, part of the problem is the very low earning power of Nigerians relative to cost of building. |

It is partly because of religious differences which also influence worldviews. Yorubas have had centuries of interractions with the Hausa-Fulanis that predated the formation of Nigeria. As more Northerners move down south, cultural exchange will take place. Most educated Northern Youths don't live in the South because they already have jobs waiting for them in Abuja or their States. The few EDUCATED Northerners living in the South are usually working with FG agencies like the Military, Customs, Immigration, Police, NNPC, NPA and they live in Barracks or Federal Government Estates with minimal opportunities for mixing with the host communities. The less educated Northerners that are hustling in the South are into low paying/menial jobs and they live in isolated communities called 'Sabo'. The younger generations that are born into such communities acclimatize well with the local population and some in the third generations have naturalized. I was already 17 years of age before I saw a Hausa 'lady' while growing up in Lagos many years ago. All the female Hausa-Fulanis thst i used to see before then were old women and young female children along Kano and Borno Streets in Ebute-Metta. Bembellaa: yes I even know one... Just that it's very rare compare to other Tribes |

ALL businesses give priority to areas with the highest returns on investment (revenues for Globacom in this case). MTN, Airtel, Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs), Newspapers etc also do it. This is the reasons why GSM services are poor on most Intet-States Highways with only few villages and in rural areas. In the extreme North of Nigeria, where readership of Newspapers is very limited, you can only get Newspapers of the previous day to buy. edoairways: Even some western states still have poor reception. I know so many people whose parents practice different religions. After many years of separation, i ran into an old friend and classmate trying to buy Sallah Ram in 2011. I asked why he, being the son of a pastor wants to buy Sallah ram and he told me that his father-in-law is a muslim but the mother-in-law is a Christian and their children are mixed. He further told me that he has made it his personal commitment to always buy ram for the father-in-law every year to celebrate Sallah. I went home sober that day because even though we are doing the same job, I wasn't married then so had no wife, children or father-in-law to spend money on but I wasn't richer than him. What's the big deal in this, Nigerian ladies falling in love with Nigerian men? Throughout Human History, new tribes emerge through inter-marriages of previously existing tribes and Nigeria's case won't be able to different. If we continue as one country, in 500 years time, most Nigerian tribes would have merged especially in Kwara, Kogi, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa-Ibom and Taraba and we will have less than 12 tribes in the whole country by then. obiekunie2: you guys seem not to be able to read the writing on the wall.

Which index did you use to measure the WEALTH of the two States? IGR is not a measure of wealth and low poverty index doesn't translate to great wealth. rdokoye: If Igboland is so poor, why do so few people meet the requirements for the conditional cash transfer? Real development starts at the grassroots, with things like education, water access, healthcare delivery, mortality rates etc.
All the things that Igboland beats all the other states at. When it comes to education, there's no comparison between Ebonyi and Borno State, unless you're inferring that Nigeria is the only place on planet earth, where the uneducated are wealthier than the educated.
Some of these arguments are so wishful. Why do people like yourself, have such a vested interest in telling Igbo people how poor they are? |
Politics › Re: Borno Leads Ebonyi On NBS Ranking Of States IGR Of 2019 by oyatz(m): 7:10am On May 29, 2020 |
You just sit down in your room to write about places that you don't know anything about. Why did you get this funny idea that ' In Borno, almost everybody work in the Public sector' ?? What percentage of about 4 million people in Borno are Government workers? Only a few thousands of the educated people work in the Public sector, majority of the people in Borno State are into Farming and Animal Husbandry. rdokoye: IGR has absolutely nothing to do with poverty. In the case of Borno, almost everyone works in the public sector, given the low level of education, that's why it's IGR is higher than a state like Ebonyi, where a larger portion of its population have SMEs, and they pay very little tax. The same is the case in all the Igbo states.
Because Igbo states have much larger private sectors, it also means that the state governments have more money to spend on capital infrastructure. Which accounts for the large infrastructure development in the state of Ebonyi. Compared to a state like Ogun, which has huge recurring expenditure, and very little money to spend on infrastructure development. |

I am not saying 'one Nigeria' is good or bad, however if you want to get Biafra through peaceful means or restructuring or presidency, you will need the support of other (non-Igbo) Nigerians, majority of whom are Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba people. By antagonizing, abusing, insulting and cursing the Hausa-Fulani, Yoruba and sometimes the Southerner minorities (whenever they reject the Biafran tag), you are drawing 'the battle lines' and they will gather their people together to oppose you and whatever you stand for. You can criticize Government actions without drawing tribes/religion/regions into your criticisms. Leo3333: Mr. "One Nigeria", might we know how the current structure benefits you? As a neutral observer who doesn't belong to either side and who has read about many parts of this Country, I strongly think that; 1) King Jaja was born as an Igbo child, then sold into slavery. He redeemed himself and gained the confidence of the household of his master and adopted Ijaw indentity. He died as an Ijaw man. 2) Most Riverean communities from Bonny Island to Lagos to Badagry are NOT 100% homogeneous and always absorbed people from the surrounding areas, especially those who escaped the horror of slavery after the Slave Trade was abolished. PHijo: I laugh at your ignorance! Jumbo jumbogha otherwise known as Jaja is an Ibani Ijaw just like anyone else. Oyigbo you erroneously refer to as Obigbo is Ijaw. In fact, if you are conversant with history you would know that the Ibani and Okrika clans of the Ijaw nation are deeply intertwined that the Ndoki cannot be separated from the Ibani or Okrika Okrika Ijaw. You are confused by what it means to be Ibani, Okrika, Ndoki or Oyigbo.
We Ijaws are not about to teach you revisionist Igbos our history.
The rubbish you are talking is like telling a Jew he is no Jewish because he is European or North American. Like I told you before, claim America, Brazil , Colombia or Mexico where you sold your kinfolk to. Supreme court ruling or not, Jumbo jumbogha left Bonny island for Opobo as an Ibani Ijaw. He died an Ijaw man. There is no evidence that Jaja had ever been an Igbo man. Every record of Jumbo jumbogha was in Ijawland and of him being Ijaw. Anybody can claim to come from any part of Nigeria, we know how many Igbos claim to be Saro-Wiwa 's father's sister's brother just to be given stay in foreign countries so we don't care about your union chairman. Now let me explain clearly to you; you can NOT win this game by playing the tribal card. Insulting, cursing and abusing the other tribes will create a DIVISION and leads to a 'We Vs Them' scenerio. Democracy is a game of numbers. Most people will take sides and the side with the largest number of people will win and that side will NOT be your side. It doesn't have to be the side that is more intelligent, hardworking or competent. By constantly abusing the two other majority tribes, you are indirectly telling them to gang-up against you. The Ijaws, the Ogonis, Efik, Idoma or Igala seems to understand this phenomenon better than you. Let start to criticize Government actions and inactions based on the merits of the actions and start deemphasizing ethno-religious sentiments. . .It put you in disadvantaged positions more than your opponents. 1) Many people from the North criticize this Buhari administration e.g Buba Galadima, Senator Sheu Sani etc Northerners aren't many like the Southerners on social media. However, for certain reasons , Northerners don't criticize their leaders like Southerners do. 2) When people come online to criticize Buhari and use the opportunity to abuse, insult and curse Northerners/Fulanis, you are indirectly telling Northerners/Fulani to unite and defend one of their own and return hatred for you. They will not join you in such criticisms, no matter the wrongs that he has done. 3) When tribal bigots come online to spend all their time and energy telling whoever cares to listen how evil a particular Geopolitical zone is, what do you think people from that zone will do? 4) When you constantly call people backstabbers, betrayers and greedy people (which has become intensified since 2015), do you expect them to return the gestures by supporting your views and working to see you rewarded with power to preside over their lives? 5) Who appointed you a judge to determine the morality of the Interests of the S/West in politics, especially the 2023 election? You are in politics to protect your own interests and I am in politics to protect my own interests too. 9japride:
I agree politics is about interest. But some people interest might be selfish and not moral. I still maintain that northerners don't critize this Buhari government and it seems it's either their religion or culture that advices them not to do so. From observation in politics all over the world. Government lies a lot and use propaganda to deceive the citizens, its now left for the citizens to take a stand and reject incompetence, but in Nigeria we play tribal and religious politics and we call it politics of interest. In a country were there is no equity and justice. A leader is being tribal bigot, but his people cannot advise him to calm down and learn to accommodate people from other regions. A leader that is sectional, is that one a leader? A situation one will be forming James Bond with our collective resources like its he's own personal wealth. Imagine someone that comes from a region that does not contribute mega share in the income of the country but rather using another man's wealth to play nepotism and bigotry. Development should be spread around, same thing it's happening in various states too where a particular region didn't vote the governor and the governor deprive such region from development. Is that a good way of governance? Most Nigerians are just too wicked and vengeful in their attitude. Just like the various vengeful monikers who open up senseless topics on nairaland daily just to spite south east, just imagine if such evil people get hold of power, with their messed up mind. They will be very sectional and bigoted in their style of governance. If all government are critized properly and everyone feels belong, there won't be any need for zoning. It's just that we are not yet matured in governance that is why zoning is done just to spread development which to me it shouldn't be. The interest of south west in 2023 has no moral ground. But in politics anything goes. That's why a thug can be elected into government positions in Nigeria, because of politics of interest from a group of people. GEJ was a true leader who valued all Nigerians irrespective of were they come from, though he didn't perform to expectations. |
