^^^^ Thank you Dominoifet. Jarus, for referencing Daily Trust, you just lost some of my respect. That's the most sectionally biased paper in the country. |
^^^^ Whats wrong with seeking knowledge. The guy just wants to know. It is up to the management to choose whether or not to hide such information. If you don't ask questions how will you learn new things? |

If You Were a Billionaire for Five Hours When Paul Fischer checked his bank account Friday night, he had a happy surprise. His balance had exploded to $88,888,888,888.88. A very lucky number indeed, and close to $89 billion. Of course, the balance was a technical error by SunTrust Bank , which quickly fixed the problem. It also may have occurred in other accounts. "You say, 'Eighty-eight billion, what can I do with that?'" said Mr. Fischer, who owns a jewelry concessionaire for Florida theme parks. "Maybe a handful of us could have brought down SunTrust Bank." Mr. Fischer had other ideas as well. Before the problem was fixed, he asked a SunTrust rep if he could move the money to an interest-bearing account until it was reclaimed and donate the interest to charity. Total interest: more than $7.3 million. The bank said no. The money was stripped out of his account by Saturday morning. "It's all gone. I'm poor again," he said. "I was a billionaire for five hours." This kind of bank error happens frequently. But Mr. Fischer raises an interesting question: Question for Nairalanders What if, for five hours, you truly did have $89 billion? What would you do with the money? The ground rules are that you would have to give the money back — and whatever you bought or invested with it — after five hours. http://finance.yahoo.com/banking-budgeting/article/109237/if-you-were-billionaire-for-five-hours |
Wow! Hank Johnson must' ve been high on something. Dude kept trying to articulate the exact size of the island like that was important. Does the guy think an Island actually floats such that overpopulation would make it tip over?? Dude must've been high really! |
HOW IT ALL STARTED It started with a few ordinary men: well, a few ordinary men and a vision: A vision to make a difference; to say no to conscienceless abuse of power, to fight for a better nation simply by using what we all have: our voice. Friday, August 14, 2009: A black Friday, a day of infamy. But like every other day in history, we make life what it becomes. It was the day newly appointed Central Bank Governor Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi melodramatically announced to an unsuspecting country that he had taken over the management, and as we would learn later the ownership, of five banks – Afribank Plc; Finbank Plc; Intercontinental Bank, Plc; Oceanic Bank Plc; and Union Bank Plc. Monday, August 17, 2009: The seeds are sown. It started with a chance meeting by three Nigerians from various tribes, each a leader in his chosen career: business, investment, and banking. We came away from that meeting convinced that “evil thrives where good men keep silent.” Whereas, we could keep quiet since none of us was directly affected by the CBN invasion, our two decades-old interactions with key players in the banking industry meant we were at home with the undercurrents of this vengeance-filled drama. We knew the story started when Sanusi as First Bank MD was accused by Intercontinental’s Erastus Akingbola and Oceanic’s Cecilia Ibru of championing an obnoxious corporate de-marketing (unethical negative communication against competitors) against the two speedily growing banks. They were taking business from First Bank and changing the industry order. The crux of the matter came when the Kano Prince was forced by his Board to go apologise to Mr. Akingbola. As it would happen, he had to wait for some minutes as Mr. Akingbola was in a meeting. Stuck to his aristocratic high horse, the Mallam felt doubly disgraced: the man should have broken his meeting to see him! He took his vengeance as soon as he was made CBN Governor, and what a vengeance he took irrespective of the debilitating consequences to our economy. Unfortunately, in his angry haste to devastate his perceived enemies, he committed blunder after blunder, confessed to the truth one after the other, and above all unwittingly started this Peoples movement. He would then go on to say that the worst was over. But, as Nigerians will come to know, this CBN Governor could not be taken at face value. A few months later, the Bull entered the China shop again. Monday, October 2, 2009: Having created turmoil in the industry with its negative effect on the economy, he would again shock all with the announcement he was taking over additional three banks! He would go on a blatant volte-face (forced on him by powers that be) by allowing one of them recapitalise and justify why he left out two others for reasons that were clearly less than logical and consistent! The other paradigm-shifting brand, BankPHB was also targeted. It was clear the bile was that a core Northern Bank had been taken over by some Southerners during the Consolidation! Unlike the distinguished and statesmanlike approach of the previous occupants of this exalted position who in line with Central Bank Governors the world over would speak less and act more for the benefit of the economy, this feudal lord who would later confess that the CBN Governorship is not what he wants – the Emir of Kano is – continually talked down on the Banking industry and the economy at large. He would further confess that he ‘created the crises’ for the Banks! Today, from those humble beginnings, Renaissance Professionals continues to have daily membership requests cutting across the professions. Our today defines our tomorrow. If you have access to Hard Copy Nigerian Newspapers, then you definitely know "The Renaissance Professionals". These guys have been at the forefront of the struggle against Sanusi's damaging and devastating actions against the Nigerian Economy. Virtually everyday since sometime in September or October, they have engaged the public in highly intellectual discourse concerning Sanusi's actions. They have successfully with the stroke of the pen, placed Sanusi between a rock and hard place, such that all his sinister agenda are practically impossible to execute. Sanusi shivers antime he hears their name. They've given him sleepless nights. They've been so successful at exposing Sanusi's shallowness and the verdancy of his actions. Below on the next post is an introduction of the events that led to the birth of The Renaissance Professionals |
Seun makes his cash thru Ads. And lots of cash. I believe though, that Nairaland doesn't harness up to a tenth of its financial potential.
I partially agree with your statements. Jonathan is uniquely positioned to checkmate the "cabal" but I don't believe he is that adventurous and power hungry. If his list of ministers is anything to go by, there will be no checkmating of the cabal. Yardy will remain in the whitehouse (aso rock) until further notice. As long as Bankole and David Mark still hold their powers, there will be no impeachment. Trust me on this.
The highlighted point is what has gotten Jonathan this far. People underestimate the man, like you have just done. Wait until inauguration day May 29 2011, then come back and tell me he is not Adventurous. There is no politician that doesn't have some appetite for power. David Mark has always been with Jonathan thru OBJ. They very moment the trio of OBJ, TY and David Mark decide its time to let go of Yar Adua, the impeachment would take place. The main reason Yar Adua has to be let off is the occupation of Aso Rock. This might sound absurd but it is a vital point that many people don't look into. The security in Aso Rock is currently manned by loyalists to Yar Adua. That way, Jonathan's safety, to a large extent is actually in the hands of people who have every reason to hate him. If Jonathan must take strong actions which are needed for the progress of this country, his safety must first be guaranteed by any means possible. There is no need leaving Yar Adua in Aso Rock because even if he gets well soonest, I don't think Nigerians would accept him as their leader any longer. We are soo done with the Yar Adua presidency. |

Afterall we have sections for Tribalism and Racism. |
@topic. Nice article. Agree on some points, totally disagree on others. Hardwork pays in Nigeria? ? ? Since when? ? Maybe in the days of our parents. Obviously not these days. A friend just won a government contract of almost 800 million. He didnt work as hard 4 it as many other guys i know that sweat their lives out just 2 eke a meagre living. Truth be told, hard work, diligence and conscientiousness are hardly rewarding in Nigeria. If U a girl and U need a quick buck, just open your legs 4 a pot bellied politician and boom! U re made 4 life. If u re a guy, engage in something criminal and u'd be smiling 2 the bank. In a society of this nature, people would cling 2 anything that gives a tinge of hope. Religion does give hope and rightly so. However, many have lost their God given intellectual abilities 2 to the dictates of many-a-no good fellow disguising as a priest, pastor or imam and chooses 2 use religion as an enrichment tool. That said, I think religíon has been good 4 this nation as it has prevented Nigerians from expressing the fullness of our extremely barbaric and nihilistic tendencies. On the real, people should seek 2 understand God's purpose 4 their existence, rather than spend miles upon miles of their lives asking 4 things he already provided. |
This was definitely coming. America is not going to stand by and watch its position as the world largest economy come/superpower being raked off by this behemoth called China. China is growing at an alarming rate. It is now the third largest economy in the world and would most likely overtake Japan this year. If America doesn't slowdown China, it a problem for U.S Jobs. The US consumers hold the key to China's success. The only reason China is where it is today is the simple fact that Americans are a sucker for cheap goods. If U.S raises tariffs on Chinese goods, cheap products would then have to come from countries like India, Vietnam Brazil and the like. As per its effect on Nigeria, I bet that would depend on where we choose to pitch out tents. I'd advice we go with the U.S anyday, it is more likely that the Americans will come out of this as victors. |
Now 500458 members. Thats almost 500 new menbers in just one day! Wow! |
kosovo:Okay. But right now it is 500081. That is about 13 members in the last hours. Thats huge. I hope Seun is reaping the benefits big time. The last I checked, if it is correct, he was doing a little less than a $grand a day. For a site this large, he should make ten times that if he can adequately harness the massive opportunities that numbers like these present. |
Obviously, none of you that have posted read the article. You just read the headline. And that has always been the problem with Nigerians!! Wonderful article. Bitte read it before commenting! Danke! |
I read through this article earlier and I came up with one conclusion and I am sorry to say, but Buhari is an empty leader. He didn't speak like someone that has an understanding of what can make a country great. He appears to me like a visionless man (No disrespect intended). I thought he would speak on solutions he has for this ailing country. He said nothing. The man might be a man of integrity, but thats not all we need in a leader. We need a leader with brains and wits, vision and understanding, and one who has the capacity to galvanise the people to achieve greatness. Buhari is not just that man. Another thing about Buhari is his welfarist ideologies. Buhari would make Nigeria a welfarist state. Welfarism would never work for a country like Nigeria. We are too large for that. Anybody but Buhari. |

Maybe EFCC would be good for him. But just not CBN. The guy is a destroyer and all he has done is batter the Nigerian economy! Anything to get him out of CBN is good. |

Divorce occurs in every 2 marriages in Kano’ News WRITTEN BY JAAFAR JAAFAR, KANO FRIDAY, 26 MARCH 2010 00:38 A research conducted in 2008 by the Kano State Societal Reorientation Directorate shows that in every two marriages in Kano, one divorce is recorded. Speaking yesterday in Kano at an occasion to mark the International Women’s Day, organised by the Partnership for the Promotion of Maternal and Child Health, a lecturer at the Department of Sociology in the Bayero University Kano, Dr Isma’ila Zango, said the revelation was alarming. The sociologist said a survey conducted in 2001 across three states of the North-West region had a similar result. Dr. Zango said the data collected from 500 women from Kano, Sokoto and Katsina States revealed that 35.5 percent of the women were divorced. She warned that divorce affects the psychological and social balance of the family. “Women and children are always at the receiving end. There is a need to get to the root of the matter and make a strict legislation on divorces. Earlier, the district head of Albasu, Alhaji Wada Aliyu Gaya called for woman empowerment. “Women should be accorded respect and given an opportunity to live a decent life,” he said. He maintained that the Emirate Council was ready to support them. http://www.news.dailytrust.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=16304:divorce-occurs-in-every-2-marriages-in-kano&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=119 |
On a serious note, this is ridiculous and sickening at the same time. The folks surrounding YarAdua are a bunch of wicked and souless humans. Why are they making this man a laughing stock? What did he do to them? Why are they throwing out all these stories when they know he wont be appearing? The man is sick, has no idea what is happening around him and all the cabal knows to do is to make a mockery of him with these kind off silly stories. Yesterday they said he is drinking tea, today na mosque en go attend! |
