PoliticsRe: Will The North Suffer by PapaBrowne(m): 6:49pm On Mar 18, 2010
They will be just fine!! Poverty is not exactly a problem in Sharia North. It is a way of life!

So no! Even if they are poor, they would not be suffering. It would just be normal to them.

EducationRe: 98% Of Candidates Fail As Neco Releases Nov/dec Results by PapaBrowne(m): 3:46am On Mar 18, 2010
How can 98% fail?? That is an indictment on the teachers, not exactly on the students!
Its also probably an indictment on NECO itself. There is something just not right with the concept of a 98% failure. Things cannot just be that bad.

Don't private schools also write NECO?? There surely are a lot of very standard private schools in Nigeria with very capable kids.
I really don't believe this figure. Except  maybe I'm so out of touch with the reality of the comatose Nigerian education system.

Are you serious?
Don't overrate the guy.
Lets see if his new Ministers are approved. You making it seem like he is some Chess Master.
David Mark has the Senate in his hands! David Mark is working in tandem with OBJ & Jonathan. The approval will be an easy ride except it has folks like Ribadu and El Rufai on the list of ministers. But I think these two guys(El Rufai & Ribadu) would come in as special advisers- they wouldn't need senate approval.

@Frosbel
Help me tell them abeg.

Some folks think being politically correct is equivalent to being advanced in reasoning.

The signs are so obvious that Gaddafi himself has proffered the perfect solution.

We can keep decieving ourselves. One day the river will overflow and there would be no where to run to!

PoliticsThis Is Their Nigeria! We Too Can Have Ours! by PapaBrowne(op): 3:31am On Mar 16, 2010
This is their Nigeria.
This is their Nigeria. This is the Nigeria they dreamed about.
The Nigeria we have today is the Nigeria of those leaders that fought for independence and have ruled us ever since.
This is Awolowo's Nigeria. Azikiwe's Nigeria. Ahmadu Bello's Nigeria.
Gowon, Obasanjo,Shagari, Buhari, Babangida  and all the rest. This is the Nigeria of their dreams.
This is the Nigeria they worked to create. This is the Nigeria they desired. They fought for it and now they have it.

All what we have today is the Nigeria they wanted. The bad roads, the Jos crisis, the Niger Delta Issue, the NEPA palaver, corruption, insecurity, and all the ills are a product of their dreams and desires.
They wanted a country riddled with anarchy and destabilization. A country where citizens are filled with hopelessness and strewn with poverty.
These were their dreams for Nigeria and they got it exactly how they wanted it. It has benefitted them. They are now all Billionaires.

We can have ours too
Now we can have ours. We too can dream up our own country. We can create the Nation of our dreams.
We can start now so our future might be bright and our children might benefit.
We don't need to look too far. We can start with ourselves. We can start by choosing to stand up in our little spheres of influence against the ills that beset our society.

We can start by confronting corruption in our workplaces. We don't need to wait for no Ribadu to do that for us.
We can get a group of friends to fix dangerous potholes when we see them. That don't cost much to do.We don't need to wait for Jonathan to do that for us.
We can get our Pastors and Imams to commit to building hospitals instead of building more churches and mosques.

We don't need to wait for no government funding for us to start inventing solutions to life's problems. The Wright brothers didn't get no support from government before they invented the Airplane. All the inventors of time past didn't get no help from no government. They used their brains to create solutions.
We too can begin to create solutions. All we need to do is observe and think. Expand our brains. See possibilities. Aspire.

Forget electoral reforms or even fiscal federalism. Forget all that jingoism about improved power supply.I don't believe in this their Nigeria. I have little hope in them. It probably wouldn't get us too far past where we've always been.

We of this generation can fix ourselves, by ourselves and for ourselves. We can build the country of our dreams. We don't need to wait for no government. We can start today in our little spheres of influence.
PoliticsRe: Economic Confidential Portfolio Of Mrs Cecilia Ibru - Release By Efcc by PapaBrowne(m): 1:55am On Mar 16, 2010
^^^^
Thank you Jare! The Ibru family has been in money since the sixties and this Farida of a woman is trying to make it look like she stole her way to wealth.
They put Aero Contractors on the list- something the Ibru family have part owned since 1959- which is long before Cecilia dreamt of bearing the Ibru name. It just shows desperation on the part of Sanusi and Waziri!

mikeansy:
I will also ask us to be careful of an EFCC under Waziri that will go on a National directory of home owners addresses, type Ribadu and associate every property found as that Nuhu Ribadu. but Ribadu is the name of a village and there loads of Ribadus arround the world.

I don't hold brief for cecielia Ibru. I just hope the EFCC did a thorough investigation. Ibru is a popular familar and not all property associated with that family name will belong to Ceceilia.

I hope the EFCC did its job well.
Exactly whats on my mind. The EFCC under Waziri is a sham. Anything she does has little or no sincereity.
PoliticsRe: Leave Seun Abeg by PapaBrowne(m): 9:18pm On Mar 14, 2010
I understand Seun's place. A hard place to be right now. He runs a platform on which we can all pour out our vituperations on politicians and get away with it. He bears the brunt of our actions. I think everyone understands his fears.

I think the problem though is the arrogance in which he defended his actions. If people start feeling disenfranchised and stop making posts, Nairaland is at a loss for it even financially.

And a point of correction! Seun might own the Nairaland platform but he doesn't own the content. Nairaland was started by Seun, but he didn't build it alone. Posts are the building blocks on Nairaland. Everyone that has ever made a post is a builder.

Lets move on from this though!!
PoliticsRe: Gen Domkat Bali Speaks On GoC Jos by PapaBrowne(m): 6:18pm On Mar 14, 2010
edoyad:
@papabrowne The problem with the  south east, south west, south south and middle belt is that the people are too educated and heterogeneous to accept one ideology or  one train of thought like the illiterate almajiris do. To make matters worse  we have got so many tribes that we would need a political juggernaut, not yet in the lime light to unite us all. Just who would be that man that would be accepted by the 4 zones.
You are right on the difficulty with accepting a single ideology!
However, it appears to me that these four zones (when you take out tribalism) seem to have very similar ideals and desire the same kind of utopia. Our preffered future is almost the same. We are capitalist by nature. We cherish liberties. Our cultural tenets are quite similar and our development paths point towards the west.

On the other hand, the Sharia north has an Ideology that is a complete opposite. They believe in a welfarist system. Their Utopia is A Sharia society where the Koran is the ultimate. A welfarist sytem can only work where you have so much mineral resources and a very small population. They have none of that.

The good thing though is that the Jos crisis is beginning to seem like a rallying point for these four zones. Everyone from all four zones is pained.
Even if we have different political or economic ideologies, one common ground we have is security. Our desire to be protected from incidents like the one we have in Jos is an excellent rallying point. We can build from there on.

There is still a lot of work to be done. We do need a political Juggernaut as you said and I believe we would get one.
We need someone that would see beyond the contraptions of tribalism and ethinicity. The good news is that it is already happening and it is happening fast.

the days of Hausa/Fulani Nigeria are oover. Northern Christains can realign with their fellow christains in the South.

If PDP decides to zone power to the North and does not choose a Nothern Christain then they will also fail at the polls.
Exactly. A new political order is emerging!!! PDP is doomed already anyhow!!
PoliticsRe: Gen Domkat Bali Speaks On GoC Jos by PapaBrowne(m): 4:46pm On Mar 14, 2010
Looks like the Jos crisis has finally broken the ranks of the Sharia North's dominance on Nigerian politics.
Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Kogi, Half of Adamawa, Kaduna,Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa and all of Southern Nigeria are closing ranks ideologically.

The Sharia/ Arewa North is finished politically!! They are left with  barely 25% .
They've lost dominance of the house of assembly. They've lost dominance of the military. They no longer have the population they've longed lied that they had.
It's finished for Sharia/Arewa North!! It is finished!! grin grin grin

PoliticsRe: Sanusi Should Resign Now! by PapaBrowne(m): 6:49pm On Mar 10, 2010
Sanusi would have to rersign soonest. He neither has the capacity nor the desire to fix the economy he single handedly battered on his assumption of office.

Anyway, he is on his way out.
If we understand the judgement given by the supreme court concerning the sack of the former First Bank MD, Bernard Longe, then we would comprehend easily the problem Sanusi would be facing soon.

Based on the Supreme court judgement, all the recently sacked CEO's can now demand reinstatement as due process wasn't followed in their own disengagements.

Frustration would soon set in and he{Sanusi} would have to put in his resignation

PoliticsRe: Do You Think Nigeria's Gdp Can Surpass South Africa's by PapaBrowne(m): 2:46am On Mar 09, 2010
Yeah it is very possible if the political crises currently ravaging Nigeria is ended soonest.

If you look at the graphs below, you'd find the sharp upward growth path of the Nigeria GDP compared to that of South Africa which is more of a steady growth.

Over the last eight years, SA's GDP size has barely doubled from $133 billion in 2000 to $277 Billion 2008. Nigeria on the order hand had its GDP size quintuple from $46 Billion in 2000 to $212 Billion in 2008.

Based on these growth projectiles, Nigeria can surely surpass SA in 2012 if the political crisis is resolved quickly. and even quicker if the current CBN Governor Sanusi is kicked out!

biina:
bully online? undecided
You made a sweeping statement about a religion and you deem it 'stating the obvious'? undecided
You need to be more tolerant of other people's religion.
People have always done terrible things in the name of God. It is not peculiar to any religion alone, but simply because religion is the opiate of the masses, those with ulterior motives often find religion to be the best rudder to steer the people in the direction that they desire.
@Biina
What are u sayinghuh

Counter these examples and show me where there is tolerance in Islam!

In Saudi Arabia, where you have millions of Christians residing, there is no single church(except maybe in the American Bases.)
In Qatar, a place that pretends to hold some form liberalism, there is not a single Church.
http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1723715,00.html

In USA on the other hand, there are 40,000-50,000 mosques!
In the UK, there are thousands of mosques too. And they worship freely!
In Israel of all places, there are a whole lot of mosques even outside Jerusalem in places like Tel Aviv.
In  Japan, there are several mosques.

We should stop deceiving ourselves and address the core issues. It is not by coincidence that the only bomb blasts the world has seen in recent years happen in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, Saudi, Algeria, Egypt,Turkey etc. The ones that take place in Israel, UK and a few other places are perpetrated by Islamic terrorists. ETA,the only non muslim group blowing bombs, do so without ever killing hordes of people.

So Biina cut the crap and speak reasonably. Other religious groups might have killed in the past but there is  only one killing in the present.

Tolerance is a two way street and Islam isn't reciprocating it!
