Skidoc:I read thru the thread and while I agree with you that not everybody believed the figures, a large chunk of respondents believe these figures without asking questions! I never use words like that, but this time around, I had to! Nigeria is in a truly sad state mainly because people are so gullible to believe any illogical statement that comes from the press. People don't ask questions and it is so sad!! It is impossible and I repeat, practically impossible for Mrs Ibru to have stolen that amount and still be able to pay salaries, pay dividends, build so many new branches and most importantly continue to meet up with cash calls from depositors on a daily basis without defaulting for a single day!! The media has been screaming since that, Yar Adua is nowhere to be found! How come none of the media houses have sent anybody to Saudi Arabia on an investigative mission to unearth the truth about the president! A ticket to Saudi costs only 150,000 naira for crying out loud!! Is that the kind of media I am supposed to believe in?? |
TODAY, I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE AVERAGE NIGERIAN/NAIRALANDER IS COMPLETELY DULL!! HOW COME PEOPLE BELIEVE THESE FABRICATED LIES OH NIGERIANS!! NO WONDER YOUR PRESIDENT IS SICK AND RULING YOU FROM A HOSPITAL IN ARABIA AND YOU CAN'T DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!! OH!! NIGERIANS!! DULL PEOPLE!! I FEEL VERY SAD FOR THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY! The EFCC comes up with uncoordinated lies like this and nobody has the intelligence to ask questions. Simple questions like: =how come after the purported stealing all these money, they still had much more than enough to pay salaries, pay dividends and build new bank branches. =how come after all these purported stealing, they continued meet up with cash calls from depositors without any single ay of default. Please Nigerians/Nairalanders, get a handle on your lives! |
otokx:No they are not! They are pictures from a movie scene directed by Otokx!! We need to start breaking up this country fast!! On a second thought, in the event of a break up, would Jos and other Northern Christian states like Taraba, Benue etc be a part of Southern Nigeria? |
IBORI: A VERY LIKABLE GUY!! The guy sure knows how to network!! The picture displays The Association of Thieving Nigerians!! All those calling Ibori thief - He is not the only thief, neither is he the biggest thief. I think he is just the richest thief, because he knows very well how to invest his stolen money. It is interesting that despite all the money he stole during his tenure, he was still one of the best performing Governors of the 99-2007 era. That group of Governors were a mess!! |
I have just gone through the list of countries and organisations that have contributed to the relief effort, both in cash and kind. It is very impressive the way help has been galvanized for Haiti. About $695 million has been raised excluding donations from private individuals. One thing left a massive impression on me- While Nigeria is conspicuously missing from the list, I saw a Nigerian company that has made me proud. NEM INSURANCE COMPANY They've committed a massive sum of One Million dollars- much more than many wealthy nations like Russia, Iran, (Saudi is not even on the list) South Africa etc. These are links to the full list of donors Full list: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tMozJlQiN8ftSj0s8tLx31g&gid=3 Country List: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tMozJlQiN8ftSj0s8tLx31g&gid=1 |

Hehehe!! Very very funny! And creative too! You gat to watch it! |
El Razuur, This your argument does not hold water at all. That Nigeria has internal issues does not in anyway stop us from extending a hand to a nation in distress. As far as I know, New York currently has a major problem with homelessness. I have seen more more homeless people on the streets of New York than I see in most Nigerian cities except maybe Lagos. The problem is so bad in this icy winter period as the homeless folks have almost nowhere to really take cover from the cold. Now, should New York City now say, "hey, we gat our own problems, we really can't help Haiti until we solve this issue of homelessness". That would be immoral. And that is what you are advocating. Every nation has issues. That hasn't stopped them from assisting Haiti. Senegal has issues, yet they are making such a generous offer. Nigeria as a nation should show solidarity with Haiti and make bold to assist Haiti in any form whatsoever. |
ElRazur:How can you relate this tragedy to world politics This kind of view is warped mehn! Not impressive at all, especially coming from someone that definitely knows better.Everybody should help. Its not only rich people or wealthy nations that should participate in assisting to alleviate the hardship the Haitians are facing. Everybody, whether you live in the Hamptons or you hawk gala on the streets of Lagos, you can donate your little token. Senegal has done good and they have shown again that we(Nigerians) are anything but the "giant of Africa". |
Aisha2, your are such a . . . . . words can't describe! Lovely, lovely things that you do. I'm game. |
Katsumoto:With the bolded part, you've answered the question. Oduduwa was in fact Ekaladerhan! It is possible a group of people existed in Ife before the arrival of Ekaladerhan, however, there is no way to know for sure that they were Yorubas, as there are no records regarding customs or artworks Pre-Oduduwa. Yoruba Folklore actually claims Oduduwa as the origin of the Yorubas, hence, if Oduduwa is Ekaladerhan, then the Yorubas(through Oduduwa) definitely originated from the Bini Kingdom! |
@Topic I think we can pretty much get close to that without doing much- that is on the assumption that the price of oil stays high throughout the decade and with the hopes that there isn't another major economic slump btw now and 2020. Nigeria, under President Obasanjo quadrupled its GDP in just 8 years from barely $50 billion in 99/2000 to well over $200 billion in 2008(see graph below), so mathematically speaking, it shouldn't be too hard to achieve $800 billion in ten years up. The problem however is that Nigeria has a very funny or if you like absurd economic composition, such that a massive increase in GDP hasn't exactly translated into increased productivity, nor has it had much impact on the nation's poor! Achieving a GDP of $800 billion would be good, but if there is no real increase in productivity, it is a huge waste of time as it wouldn't translate into jobs for the people. In order to increase productivity, we need to restructure our economic map in such a way that would allow capital to flow into areas that geometrically generate more economic activity.
|
buffnaija:They did close to that already last year- they spent almost $6 billion- there is still no light in Nigeria afterall! Spending money is not the solution- it only serves as a drainpipe. Changing the fundamental structures of power generation is what is needed. |
Yorubas also originated from Benin- True story! Eko( Lagos) is a Bini word! The Binis are a great people. They are the fathers of Southern Nigeria- hate it or love it!! |
opokonwa:I would rather a second chance for any of those three men sitted, than have the current crop of leaders, most of whom are currently holding the country down by preventing Jonathan form performing the duties of the president! I would rather have a second chance for these generals than have the likes of Adamu Aliero, Taminu Kurfi, James Ibori, Bukola Saraki, Abba Ruma, and all those other failures scheming surreptitiously to become Nigeria's next president!! |
Its simple! Switch over to Glo. Advise your friends and Family to do the same. |
Yeah!! Now lets see what that illiterate of an Aondoaka has to say about this!! I hope the swearing in is done immediately!! |
sjeezy8:That's the part i don't understand. And I bet you, it is fast eroding any respect I had for the religion. If that were Barack Obama or George Bush or even Obasanjo committing that kind of atrocity with clear video evidence, there is no way they wouldn't be rotting in jail by now. Sick!! I'm to attend a conference in Dubai next month, but after watching this video, I don't feel like going anymore!! |
If at all that was Yar Adua, then one thing is obvious- He wasn't told about the Nigerian terrorist! How could he be talking about Super Eagles when Nigeria is almost on fire? I sympathise with the guy sha, he is also a victim of the cabal! I hope he resigns then recovers. |
okunoba:Okunoba,Lesztek részt vesznek a tiltakozás Angliában? Vagy csak az fog otthon ülni, míg mások a tiltakozás? Please answer me! |
I got to say this mehn! There's something about arabs/muslims, something is just not right somewhere!! I say this not only because of the actions of this sheik, but because he was acquitted for crying out loud, despite the video evidence. In UAE of all places!!! I can;t believe this!! |
@Aloy.Emeka That was quick. Thank you well well for the change of headline. You try! |
Abeg change your headline! MEND isn't involved in this!! |
Kai! I'll miss my Mai guard and all the other sundry Abokis! There will be no more gatekeepers! And shoemakers! Who will shine our shoes? And Suya! Wow! And foreign exchange! No more fast fast changing dollars! Anyways, we go survive!! |
yokelplat:I somehow agree, especially if he has Donald Duke as his vice. Ok, but Jonathan must complete his tenure first. |
I want to buy it! But just chill a little bit. . . . . . when I become Governor, I'll pay you cash. . . . straight from the state treasury! Are you game ![]() |
So there are still 2 or 3 bedroom flats going for 250k in GRA for that matter. Benin is still quite cheap. Thats good. |
if Yar'dua is dead or unfit to rule, Goodluck jonathan would automatically become the president --> a igbo man. i don't think the hausa would allow that. This might be one of the reason they are hiding the current status of the president
MrCrackles:The guy might have a point in the Goodluck is Igbo thing. Goodluck Jonathan actually has an Igbo middle name- Ebele. The rest of his names are English. So instead of insult him with the "are u insane" question, why not just inform him that Goodluck is Ijaw. Why choose to be mean when you can just be nice ![]() |
Thanks asha 80 for the embed. |
Nigeria has become a laughing stock because of our missing president. Watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAgpnjM-H60&feature=player_embedded |
Kobojunkie:The very second he shows the slightest inkling that he "possesses the spine of a leader", he forever loses the opportunity to become Nigeria's Leader. The hawks/cabal don't want any leader with spine. Look at the trends- The cabal assumed OBJ's "spine of leadership" would have broken in the jailhouse, so they happily brought him out to become their stooge. He failed them. OBJ thought Yar Adua's sickness and docility would make him a perfect stooge. He failed OBJ. Truth is the hawks would never allow a leader that "possesses the spine of leadership". Jonathan has gotten this far by virtue of the fact that he acts like a complete nincompoop. With the way he is distrusted or mistrusted by the cabal, he might actually be the one to solve the fundamental/structural misnomers that plague Nigeria. |
netotse:Yep!! But he is also a very reputable international lawyer. He is also lawyer for incarcerated Russian tycoon Mikhail Khordokovsky' as well as many other high profile cases worldwide. Plus he is reputable enough to be a commentator on Huffington's Post- one of America's No. 1 news sources. It takes one who knows Nigeria well to speak the way he has. His point: The terror watchlisting on Nigeria would only alienate America further. |
