unfortunately concrete road isnt smooth to ride on... the vibrations is very annoying... plus it takes longer to construct...
so we are practically exchanging smooth coal tar roads for supposedly long lasting concrete uneven roads... ps... who says coal tar aren't longlasting
i have seen coal tar roads dat have stood the test of time.. check ogbemudia roads built in the same benin... over 30 years still smooth and firm...
Those Ogbemudia roads are concrete oh! Pure concrete! Maybe they just laid asphalt on top the concrete! Those roads no dey get pothole even 40 years after construction!

Obaseki would be the best Governor Nigeria has witnessed in a while.
Edo State is in for a good ride!!
Everything from roads, education, agriculture is getting a lift!

I don't care jack about APC, actually dislike them, but I must say that Ambode and Obaseki are the best governorship materials in Nigeria!

Career / Re: My Junior Colleague Was Handed Over To By My Boss In Her Absence. What Do I Do? by PapaBrowne(m): 9:49am On May 15, 2017
Goodplace:
This has got me thinking deep thought of tendering my resignation letter due to this act. Our immediate boss is to go and attend to another branch and Our senior boss who is not operating from our branch said our immediate boss should hand over to a junior colleague of mine when am the most senior on ground in terms of number of years and cognate experience.

Many a time i look at recognition is not duly granted to those whom it is due, i don't know if i will call this office polities or something else. And why this has got me amazed is that this junior colleague of mine is not even close with our most senior boss who is not operating from our branch and they have not really talked one on one. i have at many occasions talked with him, he knows me one on one.

Something keeps going through my mind: Is it that my immediate boss has punctured my reputation before him that i am not aware? Or was it an oversight? i wish of tendering my resignation considering all the number of years i have served the coy. no reasonable recognition. Please advice

Apparently, from our own explanation, it appears to me that the junior colleague might have a better grasp on the job than you do.

In a company, it is results that matter, not seniority or experience.

The most outstanding on that list is Singapore.

142,000 millionaires in a population of 5 million.

Impressive what Lew Kuan Yew achieved in such a short time period.

Politics / Re: If Anything Happens To Buhari, The North Will Fight For Another 8 Years by PapaBrowne(m): 1:37pm On May 14, 2017
Is it not about time the North sees it clearly that power belongs to God.

You take power by force like it's a birth right and it walks away from you just like that.

This is the third time. The Last two northern presidents to occupy Aso rock died in there. The 3rd one Buhari, is terribly sick and needs a miracle to continue ruling.

Isn't it time to just look beyond Abuja and start thinking of how to better your country? Has any president ever helped his region or state?

Did Obasanjo do anything for the SW? Did Bayelsa or the entire SS benefit much from Jonathan? Did Katsina develop by providing us 2 presidents?

It's time we face realities. The country will not have all these problems if we focus more on restructuring the country and operating regional governments.
Awolowo was a regional premier and his impact on the SW is still felt till today. Ahmadu Bello was a premier of the northern region. His impact is still felt till today. These guys had greater impact than any Nigerian president has had till date.

Imagine Tinubu as the Regional head of the SW.
Imagine Soludo as the Regional head of the SE.
Imagine Donald Duke as the Regional head of SS.
Imagine Sanusi as the Regional head of the NW.

This is what we need. If the creators of Nigeria, the U.K. has 4 countries in one, what stops us from having 6 regions?

Many people think Igbo truly want to secede. If you regionalize this country, you would see an instant end to the Biafra Agitation

Politics / Re: Frequently Asked Questions on The Released Chibok Girls by PapaBrowne(m): 1:06pm On May 14, 2017
Anything Osibanjo handles is very different and professional.

Look at how the questions are dealt with without politicking that is the hallmark of Buhari and his cohorts.

For those that don't know, that Nairaland handle "presidency" is an authentic handle from the office of the VP.

Nice!

I hope this government can exit thier failing and blaming ways.

If Ebola comes to Nigeria under this Buhari government, hmmmmm!

Jonathan's government did great with the way they handled the whole thing.

Well we can only hope Osibanjo takes full charge as Buhari is not capable of handling such crises.

I pray it doesn't spread this time.

Phones / Re: How Social Media Is Silently Ruining The Future by PapaBrowne(m): 8:55am On May 14, 2017
The world always worries about how technology would affect the next generation negatively.

Well, my take is that technology will always keep coming and would radically transform our cultural anecdotes both negatively and positively.

We worried about TV. We worried about computers. We worried about the internet. Now our new worry is social media.

We even worried about how technology would cause massive job losses, but heck there are more jobs today than they were in the past.

I think things would always balance out. The beauty for instance of documenting history as it happens is that facts can no longer be distorted. The facts are documented as they are happening not created after they've happened or conjured 100 years after like much of our myths & legends.

The future generation in year 3050 is not going to feel like some guy called Oduduwa dropped from the sky in 2017. They'll simply check Nairalands history for 2017 and get the facts.

Politics / Re: The Only Man That Can Win Presidency For Igbo In 2019 by PapaBrowne(m): 4:53pm On May 13, 2017
This is the problem we are having in Nigeria. We are always looking for one man from our tribe no matter his antecedents.

Three questions:

What did OBJ do for the South West?
What benefit did Jonathan bring to the South South?
Yar Adua and Buhari combined have even brought worse poverty to the North West.

If having 4 or 5 Igbo speaking Senate Presidents didn't change a single law in favor of the South East, what benefit will a failed Governor bring to The presidency.

Truthfully, we just need a good president with a great vision. It will make all the difference.

So Arewa and Afenifere are helping their people enjoy the benefit of Nigeria? Are you serious? So all the poverty in Arewaland is benefit? So all the underdevelopment in Afenifere land is benefit? If that's the kind of benefit Nigeria has to offer, then I want out.

Iamzik:

How can you say SE is doing terribly when they are the ones DEVELOPING all these states listed above?
If you want your state IGR to increase, just welcome more DEVELOPERS to your state.

Meanwhile I see all the billions alright but what visible impact can you see on ground in our various state? Honest assessment please

South East is a geographical location. It is not a people. In all the regions, you have people of all creed & persuasions, tribes and nationalities contributing one way or the other. I think everyone would agree that Igbos are the biggest contributors to the development of other regions.

However, a big and sincere question must be asked? Why are Igbos with all the wealth and power they control very unwilling to invest in the south east? It surely isn't enough to build mansions and hotels in our villages. Building a strong economic base is what is essential and entirety of Igbo must ignore whatever ploy or machination they feel the FG plots against them, and come together to construct an ambitious workable blueprint for its development. The time for whining is over. The people of SE are too rich to keep expecting crumbs from the FG.

As per what the states have on ground to show for the IGR, well if you look at those figures, you'd realise that the states with higher IGR usually end up with better infrastructure than those with less.Plus the faster the can wean off the FG's feeding bottle, the more likely their development would be hastened. Look at whats happening with Lagos!

wristbangle:

Overall IGR generated, the state with the highest percentage increase is ogun, then lagos state against the previous year though on a slight margin.

Akwa Ibom and Delta are regressing though their performance is still encouraging.

Seriously OYO state needs to be proactive. That governor is clueless.

What the problem of SE is in terms of IGR, I don't know. Well expecting Anambra report sha.

Good morning lalasticlala/mynd44. This thread need more views pls

I think Akwa Ibom experienced a great leap. It was 14bn for 2015 and leaped to 23bn in 2016.
For the SE, I think it has more to do with attitudinal disposition towards taxes than it has to do with economics.
One thing to note though which is actually a good thing, IGR is not proportional to oil revenue or federal allocation. It's actually a function of the willingness and capacity of a state to actually generate resources for itself.

I think Money & Electricity.

Many times we forget that there was a time when the concept of money didn't exist. Someone actually taught up the idea and made money a reality.

Electricity in the other hand is the power on which literally everything works. The internet is a major revolution but it wouldn't have existed without electricity.

Politics / Re: What’s The Problem With Our Agriculture? by PapaBrowne(m): 10:19pm On May 04, 2017
Super Intelligent Piece. Mr Singz, where have you been?? You remind me of days when Nairaland still had intelligent contributors.

True federalism is the only fix that would cure the ailment called Nigeria. While we all complain and say corruption is the cause of our problems, we always fail to understand what the cause of the corruption is.

To help understand the problem with our system, I'd give a simple narrative.
Imagine in a city, there are 10 supermarkets scattered across the city selling different goods and services.
They stock their shelves according to the needs of their customers, train their staff on quality customer service, fix prices reasonably to ensure the are competitive, create an ambient environment to attract customers and a whole lot other things. The do all this to ensure the keep making good money.

Then one day, the authorities decide that henceforth, all the supermarkets would remit all their sales to a central pool, from whence the monies would be shared at the end of the month first equally to all supermarkets and then according to the number of staff you have. It doesn't matter what you sell, you just simply go at the end of the month to pick up your entitlement according to the new formula.

Now tell me what would happen to the 10 supermarkets? The would simply go on an employment spree! And that would be the death kneel of all the supermarkets in the city. And that's the story of Nigeria that you just narrated!!

If a state generates power above 10MW, it has to be pumped into the national grid to be shared equally
throughout the federation.
If a state attracts investors, there is no tax benefit to it except PAYE taxes which of course would be negligible in such instances.
A state cannot improve its security as it doesn't control the police force.
The state cannot build a port, a railway or an airport. Where it does, it has to hands everything over to the federal government.
The most stupid is the whole concept of Federal Roads. A state cannot fix a road built b the feds without express permission of the the feds.

The structure surely is the problem!!

Politics / Re: Buhari Getting Ready To Break Record As First Nigeria President To Resign by PapaBrowne(m): 9:07pm On May 04, 2017
Now the South West would join in the clamour for Biafra.

Why on Earth should Osibanjo sign a pact not to contest 2019 elections. So if he is performing superlatively, he will just not contest because a Northerner must rule?

This thing has to stop. Can't the North see the handwriting all ready? Isn't it clear that God might be trying to show them something? That power is not by force?

The last two Northern Presidents died in power. Now the third one is terribly sick.

Maybe it's time we all understand that having your tribesman in power doesn't bring you any benefit.

Jonathan did more for the SW & the North than he did for the Niger Delta.
OBJ appointed more high flyers (Okonjo, Soludo, Ezekwesili, Akunyili) from the South East than he did for the South West.
Yar Adua did more for the Niger Delta than he did for the North. And so on and so fault.

My advice to Osibanjo: If you are forced beyond choice to agree not to contest in 2019, do it on only one condition: That within the two years, you must be supported to fully restructure Nigeria.

Travel / Re: Uber Slashes Lagos Fares By 40% In Response To Taxify by PapaBrowne(m): 4:58pm On May 04, 2017
GenBuhari:
Go with Taxify if it is a Nigerian app even if it is more expensive.

Seem Uber is trying to kill off competition and Uber drivers would bear the brunt of losses for a any unsustainable price reduction since the driver carries all the investment and overhead.

Let Uber drivers move to Taxify and as a Nigerian app (I assume), profits will be re-injected into our economy, whereas Uber's profit is moved out of Nigeria.

This seeing the bigger picture.

Taxify is not a Nigerian company. Taxify is Estonian.
