TravelRe: Any Nigerian Studying In Austria by PapaBrowne(m): 8:56pm On Aug 29, 2008
Ah, nobody yet??
Ok let me answer you with my little knowledge(I once lived a short distance from Austria).

Most schools in Austria charge 726 euros per semester for tuition but the language of instruction is in Deutsch (German).
You might find a few state sponsored schools that teach in English, but I don't know of any.

However if you've got cash, then Webster University(it's American) would be perfect.- www.webster.ac.at

The environment used to be negative(as early as 2004) towards Nigerians because many Austrians perceived most of them as Drug peddlers. I'm guessing it would have changed a bit now. Besides as a student, you are less likely to suffer much stigma as you wouldn't have 2 do crazy stuff to survive.

For more accurate info check out this link- http://www.help.gv.at/Content.Node/148/Seite.1480000.html

Other private universities you can check

www.tcm-university.edu
www.bruckneruni.at
www.pef.co.at
www.imadec.ac.at
www.umit.ac.at
www.pmu.ac.at

Don't know much about their student visas, but since it's Schengen, I'm guessing it's same as Germany, Belguim, France and all them other old Schegeners!

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Signs Nuclear Agreement With Iran by PapaBrowne(m): 4:58pm On Aug 29, 2008
An Islamic agenda!!!!!!!!!
If that's what Yar'Adua came to achieve, then what a failure!!

Nigeria will move forward, Yar'Adua/Iran or not!!

PoliticsRe: S&P Classifies Nigeria As A 'Frontier Emerging Market' by PapaBrowne(m): 5:53pm On Aug 21, 2008
The question as to whether these indices have started reflecting(trickling down) on the masses is a big yes. The middle class has swollen enormously.
Naturally, the poorest of the poor would be the last to feel the impact and sincerely, with the best of governance, it will still take nothing less than 20 years.
140 million people is a lot to handle.

However, the bad news might be that , Yar'Adua and his fellas simply don't understand these indices and have started dishing out policies and signals that would destroy all these. It would be truely sad if they squander this once in a lifetime opportunity.
PoliticsRe: Opulence And Chaos Meet In An African Boomtown by PapaBrowne(m): 12:22am On Aug 21, 2008
The bubble will definitely pop soonest. There is no way you can sustain the trend.

A glut(oversupply of properties) will actually cause the bubble to burst.

It is simple. The reason for these prices is that the only acceptable area for High networth individauls in all of Lagos remains Ikoyi, VI and more recently Lekki. The demand for properties in these areas far outweighs supply.

Whats happening though is that, the trend would encourage massive investments in quality, high end, highrise real estate. Many of these properties would be highrise in order for the investors to cover the costs for their investmenst on the expensive plots of Land they purchased.
In two or three years time when most of these properties are ready, the supply would outpace demand and prices would begin to fall.

Add that to the fact that companies would start reviewing the cost of doing business in Lagos and begin to seek cheaper alternatives.

However, In my true opinion the craze in prices as with many other things Nigerian is fueled by a combination of greed and pomposity, really!
PoliticsRe: Ndi Okereke-Onyuike Arrested By EFCC Over Obama Xtravaganza! by PapaBrowne(m): 11:34pm On Aug 20, 2008
All this nonsense!!!! I fear for we Nigerians oooh!

What's EFCC'S business if she raised money from a couple of her friends for whatever purpose.
She didn't solicit public funds in anyway. This country is a sad one.
The lady did a fundraiser for whatever purpose and raised money from her peeps for crying out loud. She did nothing wrong!

All the thieves of public funds are enjoying themselves and the EFCC hasn't done nothing.

They've sold Nigeria.

This government is sad. Nonsense!!!!!!!!!!

@Mckren
You've said rightly!!
PoliticsRe: Obasanjo Was Better Than Yar'adua? by PapaBrowne(m): 8:11pm On Aug 20, 2008
Ha! I've said this long ago! I wonder why people had hopes on YarAdua. It was plain senseless to think that a man that performed zero in Katsina state was going to do something for Nigeria.

OBJ was way better. Even if he wasn't so good, he had very guys working for him.

We can point to the likes of Soludo, Ribadu, El-Rufai, Okonjo Iweala, Ezekwesili and a lot of other strong performers.
PoliticsRe: Opulence And Chaos Meet In An African Boomtown by PapaBrowne(m): 12:47pm On Aug 20, 2008
The article is not talking about all them Okokomaiko or Alagbado. All those ones ain't Lagos.
It's talking about the "Island" and surroundings.

RichyBlacK:
Lagos is expensive, but the truth is that almost everything is over-priced. The bubble is waiting to burst!
Very True! I pity for those buying properties at outrageous prices.Once glut takes over, the bubble will burst and its happening soonest.

landis:
Airport hotel is one of the WORST places to stay in Nigeria. The TAP water is BROWN.

The bed cover is a disaster and smiley. Please don't even mention that hotel!
Very bad hotel. Stayed there once cos I arrived late and it was closest to the airport. The place is a horror.

landis:
Protea Oakwood starts from $360(special rates). Called them and don't believe the crap on the website.
Protea in V.I charges about the same or even higher and guess what: They are fully booked for the next two years!!

I wonder why the market can't develop quality new areas that would bring down these prices!! Lagos really defies normal economics.
Foreign AffairsRe: Obama Disowns Okereke-onyiuke, Others by PapaBrowne(m): 4:10am On Aug 19, 2008
Whats pathetic about it?? She didn't force those that bought tickets to do so?? What's all the fuss about??
She did what she believes in. Sincerely Nigerians are way too negative. Don't get it.

So because there are poor people in Nigeria, the non-poor people should not hear word again.
So because there are poor people in Nigeria, those that have money shouldn't buy good things.

Pleeeeeaaasssseeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

Dis Guy:
with all these gra gra online I wonder why the real people on ground are not killing each other already!!
Abi oh!! It really feels like bombs are already blowing up on the streets!!

US predicted that Nigeria would break up in 2015, Till then, abeg make we enjoy the marraige.

On a more realistic note, it is the north that is suffering more from the system the Northern elders seem so bent on protecting.

And wait oh, all this talk about northern agriculture . . . it's a ruse oooh!.
If you want to look at it critically, the North has food crops while the south has the cash crops. I will take cash crops over food crops anyday.

The only agriculture the north produces is Yam, cattle, carrot, Irish potato, onion, guinea corn and maybe a few others.
Look carefully, these crops can't earn you good currency anywhere. They are so cheap that it would barely reflect any significance.

On the other hand, the South produces Palm Oil, Pineapple(For Fruit Juices), Cocoa, Rice, Corn, Cassava, Chicken, Fish, Shrimps, Bananas, Plantain, Avocado and a host of others. These are hard currency earners anyday. Southern Agriculture has ten times more weight than the North Agric.

I really feel for the North. I sometimes think southerners should pity them. The british deceived them badly.Telling them to join the army, while southerners were getting educated.Telling them to hold on to political power while the south was buliding the economy.
The same british went ahead later and started shouting democracy. Now democracy has made the army useless leaving the North in a disadvantaged state of parasitic dependence.
Now the North has nothing. No education, No Economy, No Industries, No Manpower and Little or No hope. They need help not bashing!
I pity them.

About Dangote, Northerner:Yes! But majority of his companies are located in the south and run by southerners and foreigners.

And yes, while the South has a lot of greater potential, it does have lot more problems do deal with than the north.

TravelRe: Luggage Travel? by PapaBrowne(m): 3:34am On Aug 16, 2008
No, a luggage is not a very good idea. You might get caught because they now use baggage scanners.
My suggestion: They don't usually search the fuel tank of the plane. I know a guy that works in Aeroplane filling station. He can help. Contact me through my laptop.I 'm waiting.

TravelRe: . by PapaBrowne(m): 3:20am On Aug 16, 2008
Nice concept, methinks!
First thing I'm wondering though, is why you've narrowed your clientosphere(Holiday shoppers & About to weds)

One bottleneck you'd face is Customs. If I would have to pay the tariffs myself, that would be a downside.

Suggestions

Services.
Make sure you add a realtime phone-in service. Most Nigerian customers want to communicate before they make a purchase.
Concerns
You need to give me some kind of guarantee that the stuff I see online is what I get.
Products
While clothes and accesories are a definite, I'd recommend electronic gadgets- Laptops, Ipods and the likes.
Pick Up
I'd suggest you'd add the option of pick up in other UPS locations around the country as well. I think that's pretty simple.
Registration
Sure, why not.
Club
Coool, but no thanks. Spam!

And let UPS be UPS. Meaning 3-5 days shipping max!

Few companies tried out something similar(not half as good as yours though) but I don't think it was so successful for obvious reasons. They had a relatively poor interface + no publicity + a couple other reasons.
I think this will be a success. You've already tackled lots of the potential pitfalls. I saw the template you got, and its a masterpiece.
Once you get the website started, holla!!! Best wishes.

TravelRe: 1001 Things You Must See In Nigeria by PapaBrowne(m): 9:35pm On Aug 10, 2008
The 1st in 1001 "must see" spots in Nigeria is the Chappal Wadi. It is a mountain with the highest point in Nigeria at about 2400m. Located in Gashaka Forest Reserve in Taraba state, this breath taking region is any tourist's delight

This place in my opinion is something like Nigeria's most beautiful jewel. Wonder why lots of folks don't know about it. I think those that know love to keep it a secret.
The place is really cool with amongst the best Flora and Fauna anywhere, gorgeous Streams, Chimps and Baboons, marvellous climate and wonderful locals. Some foreign researchers are even trying to determine whether the place was the original Garden of Eden.

I can't give enough details but you can read this blog for more- http://naijablog . . com/2008/04/mountain-of-death-no-be-small-o.html

Other places I luuv- Niger delta Mangroves(except you want to get adultnapped),Lagos-Benin expressway(has the greatest potholes in the world), Oshodi market(greatest form of human disorganisation), and of course Nairaland(lots of dumbsmart locals)
