HealthRe: Health Benefits Of Coconut Water by PapaBrowne(m): 12:37pm On Aug 04, 2013
I have just discovered the wonders of coconut.

I have a coconut tree in my house and it has started fruiting wonderfully. It has about 100-120 shells of coconut.

Over the past 3 weeks, I have been plucking them one by one and I must say the water is just the craziest sweetest thing in this world.

I discovered some secrets about coconut.

1) The sweetness and quantity of the water is more pronounced before the coconut reaches full maturity and hardens.

2) The flesh of a nearly mature coconut is bouncy soft and easy to eat. Plus it tastes so good. You need to taste of it to know the feeling. You can never get it in the market. You should plant a tree and wait 5 years.

3)One coconut tree produces about 70-150 coconuts per year. That means if you had 100 coconut trees, they will produce between 7000 and 15000 coconuts per year. That amount of coconut can give you between 500,000- 2 million Naira yearly for the next 30- 40 years if sold retail.

4)Coconut, just like its flesh, can make your eyes crystal clear and nearly white if eaten constantly.

Foreign AffairsRe: Sixty Years Ago, Most South Koreans Were Illiterate; Today.... by PapaBrowne(m): 3:48am On Aug 04, 2013
While literacy is a strong factor in development, it is not an absolute.

There are many other countries that have been literate since world war 2 and yet have not made much improvements despite not having any anti-imperial sentiments.

Culture and Character are the extra ingredients required for the success of nations.

We as Nigerians have some characteristic elements that would lead to extraordinary sucess as a nation, but our culture is our biggest detriment. A culture of nepotism, tribalism, sectionalism and individualism. All these are the biggest factors preventing our success as a nation.

When these things are out of the way, our unique determination to succeed, our self confidence and our global dominance perspective would definitely see us surpassing many of these nations.

Now, while literacy is essential to our development, you would agree with me that the literate amongst us have not been able to show themselves capable of advancement. Nairaland is a forum with 100% literacy rate, however it is still peopled by some of the most debased, anti progressive set of humans who live by tribalism and nepotism.

There is no need for her to go to Anambra. If you are doing something good where you are, stay put and finish the good works. Let Soludo handle Anambra. He is a gifted man with better capacity to impact the state. She is doing excellently in Aviation and must stay put as Nigerians would be the losers if another new minister is put there.
PoliticsRe: Tips To Avoid Deportation In Lagos. by PapaBrowne(m): 1:30pm On Aug 02, 2013
And please make sure you visit the Lagos Embassy before embarking on your trip. Ensure that you are given the appropriate visa. If you intend to work in Lagos, please don't come in with a visiting visa.

And for all those that currently reside in Lagos and haven't obtained thier resident permit, please endeavor to do so.

And in the event that you are not deported by 2015, don't forget to vote out ACN/APC as that is the only sure way of remaining in Lagos beyond then.

Wish you'll the best.

As for me, I am going to Alausa on Monday to renew my residence permit. Or better still I will ask if they can grant me permanent residence.
PoliticsRe: Keke-Napep Banned In Some Lagos Commercial Areas ? by PapaBrowne(m): 8:54am On Aug 01, 2013
There is no way ACN/APC is winning Lagos in 2015. PDP will not win Lagos either.

The cards are stacked huge against them. From Okada riders to Keke to Igbo traders to non indigenes.

The writer of this article has no idea the relationship between Soludo and Akunyili.
They are inlaws. But they are sworn enemies.
At the Burial of Akunyili's sister, they had an open confrontation that involved the police.

There is no way they can work together, except by divine power.

dayokanu: This would be similar to the list of medical schools per region you gave us a while back right?
Dayo. That thread you keep referencing was very on point. I even provided a link but you refused to acknowledge.
I stated clearly, Accredited. And the list is still there as provided by the medical council of Nigeria.
Edo State still has the highest number of accredited Medical schools in Nigeria with three. Lagos is the second highest with two. Osun has recently joined Lagos with the accreditation of LAUTECH. The rest either have 1 or none.

Here is your link again.

Me I am happy that the SW is finally having a renaissance of sorts. The rest of the South left the SW in the 90s. The death of Awo stopped all forms of development. The SW has been punching below its belt. The missing link is an entrepreneural spirit.

Check this fact:
The number of very functioning airports in the SW: None.
The number of very functioning Airports in the SS: PH, Calabar, Uyo, Warri, Benin, Asaba.

And it is not that there are no airports in the SW. Ibadan and Akure have airports. Thierr passenger numbers are too low.

Its about disposable income, you know!
TravelRe: Pictures Of The Remodelled Enugu International Airport. by PapaBrowne(m): 9:25pm On Jul 31, 2013
Nice improvement. We are gradually leaving that stage of having eyesores in all our public facilities to having them at least a bit presentable.

The next stage for the airports is the five brand new terminals that would be constructed by the Chinese in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Kano. Can't wait.

Nigeria has changed in the last 2 years at a pace that is greater than we witnessed in 30 years. Things are happening faster than you can say janded.
BusinessRe: Low patronage hits newly opened Ibadan shoprite by PapaBrowne(m): 8:30pm On Jul 31, 2013
Ah! A whole Ibadan.

I was at Shoprite in Enugu on a week day in the afternoon and it was filled up and brimming with shoppers.

As someone said, it all boils down to purchasing power. But I would rather say it boils down to disposable income.

Top Cities in Nigeria with quality disposable incomes.

Lagos
Abuja
Port Harcourt
Warri
Benin
Kano
Onitsha
Enugu
Kaduna
Aba
Uyo

PoliticsRe: WOW! Nigeria Begins Online Registration For Business by PapaBrowne(m): 3:05pm On Jul 31, 2013
Nice.

This is how things should work. All the nonsense bureaucracies only serve the purposes of corrupt civil servants.

There is no reason why Business names cant be registered online. Infact registering a business name should be as easy as registrering a domain name. The CAC would increase its earnings tremendously if it does that.
AgricultureRe: Maize Farming Startup by PapaBrowne(m): 11:48am On Jul 31, 2013
^^^^^
I agree with you somewhat on some points especially with regards to practicalities. The postulations I used are based on @Olushowumn's write-up and I assume them to be on point based on the fact that he is a farmer and his figures are not too far from established figures.
The purpose is not to state the real output but to show the potentially large difference between a product sold as raw materials especially in the international market vs a product sold after value has been added.

My point is, if we create value for our products, we stand to benefit much more whether as individual businesses or as nations.

If you agree that 1 hectare of land would produce on average 200,000 ears of corn, then the calculations are still on point. At 50 Naira per piece of boiled or roasted corn(a simple value), 200,000 ears of corn would produce 10 million Naira is the value that one hectare would eventually produce. Now that's in theory. In practice, a whole lot of other factors begin to come to play and that figure definitely would shrink but it doesn't change the eventual value the corn will eventually be marketed at.

You are right about oil companies and textile companies. The funny thing is that they added value at one end of the chain and are selling at greater prices. A chinese company produces a shirt for say $10 and a little bit of branding is added to it by Ralph Lauren and it is eventually sold for $100. Its the value adder that benefits more.
PoliticsRe: Pictures Of Massive Construction Work In Ogun State. by PapaBrowne(m): 11:22am On Jul 31, 2013
Quite impressive works.

I envisage a renaissance of some sort in the South West. If all the energies of the SW states can be harnessed and the core competencies of each and every one of them maximised, then the region can finally be liberated from the clutches of underdevelopment.
One thing though, the SW has to embrace entrepreneurship for it to compete effectively in this new era in the 21st century.

Can you kindly remove the word luxury and change to affordable.

Cos in my books, that's low cost housing. 3 Bed, 3 Bths for 900k- 2m is Manhattanish!! Pretty high!

Anyway, the right place for this is the property section. Wish you the best of luck and hope you get an excellent tenant ready to pay 2 years plus!
PoliticsRe: Fashola: Nigeria's President(pics) by PapaBrowne(m): 12:02am On Jul 31, 2013
There is no reason why this man should not be atop the APC ticket.

But instead some folks are telling us Buhari or Tambuwal should come and get the ticket.

How can a very intelligent administrator of this nature be totally ruled out of the 2015 elections because he is not a northerner? APC should be begging either this man or Oshiomole to sit atop their ticket. Only then would I even think of encouraging even my enemies to vote APC. But as long as I keep hearing names like Tinubu, Buhari, Tambuwal...tufiakwa!!

dolphinife: Did FAAN and NAMA used dialogue before grounding the helicopter conveying Oshiomole to a social function?

Infact, Oshiomole should ground it to maximum paralysis. This FAAN spokesman is suffering from diarrhea of forgetfulness and obsolete disillussionment. The same fate was meted to Oshiomole, and none of the aviation agencies gave a cogent reasons for the grounding of the helicopters
And what you fail to realise is that it is not the FG who suffers when Oshiomole grounds the Airport, it is we ordinary Nigerians who use to Airport to go from place to place.

This is plain stupidity. So because something was done to Oshiomole, we citizens should suffer?

Once again, this is plain stupidity on display by both my very admirable Governor and the writer of the post I quoted.

And by the way, I had to drive all the way to Lagos after spending 18k for flight online. If not for the smooth and fresh Benin Ore road..... So you can understand my anger!
PoliticsRe: Soludo Joins APGA As A Gubernatorial Aspirant by PapaBrowne(m): 10:03pm On Jul 29, 2013
Wow!! Excellent.

I was pained at Soludo's loss in 2010.

I can't wait for the Soludo Solution. This is excellent. Let all those 23 PDP folks slug it out with themselves.

Soludo has a free ride here. I hope Chris remains in the senate. Thats where he belongs.

Anambra will be the greatest state(Or second greatest. Edo will be the greatest grin) in Nigeria if Soludo comes on board, not because of Soludo himself, but because he will be able to harness the collective power of Anambrarians for the massive development of Anambra State and an eventual spread across the South East region.

Anambra state without question has the greatest collection of capable Nigerians. No state is that blessed in terms of Human resources.

SLIDE waxie: This 'civilian JTF' is having their mandate on the wrong turn!

They shld be restricted only to intelligence gathering and tip offs.

Why shld they be allowed to take up arms(which is illegal by the way), to the extent using it? They shld just provide information for our JTFs, and leave them to do the job they were being trainned to do!

The boko haram combat department wld av been well trainned in the little way, no matter how little. And this is an edge over the overzealous and impulsive civilians.

R.I.P anyway undecided

PoliticsRe: Hamza Al-Mustapha Visits Asari Dokubo (Photo) by PapaBrowne(m): 1:16am On Jul 29, 2013
This is the reason I tell opposition figures to stop making all the noise and go and strategize.
2015 would shock many aluta-minded opposition figures especially those on Nairaland.

Politics is about strategy. While the opposition is busy buying newspaper pages and screaming hoarse to the less than 1 million fellows that read the news, the incumbent is covering strategies on all fronts.

Buhari is a problem in the north. What do we do? Ans: Create a new cult figure for Northerners. Result: Al Mustapha is released.

ACN could pose a threat in the South West. What do we do? Create an alternative platform and fund it. Result: Fasheun is drafted to convert OPC TO UPN. Yoruba youths haven't tasted oil money. Spoil them a little and they'll forget what Tinubu looks like.

Amaechi is a negative in the South South. What do we do? Make him a leper early enough. Result: Most PDP members have deserted him.

And the bigger one which is a secret I don't mind revealing: Farmers. 15 million of them already in the database. A txt message would do the magic and they'll all be thumb-printing umbrella.

Its called startegising for victory. Hate it or love it, politics in Nigeria is played like this. If the opposition likes, let them keep talking about locking down the gates of Abuja with protests while the PDP is already smooth on its winning strategies.

Hear this prediction:
This is the shocker that would weaken many opposition pundits.
Tinubu has no interest in Aso Rock. He will strike a deal with Jonathan that would see him go to the senate. Remi is just keeping the seat for him. He will work hard to ensure that the APC has a majority in the house. And he would seek to become Senate President. Its only those that don't know Tinubu that think he is interested in Aso Rock. The man doesn't fight battles he cannot win.

Very funny people unbelievable set of people.

A project was flagged just 3 weeks ago and some pessimist fellas are asking where the equipments are. Hmmm. You go fear pessimism.

Tommorow, when a shoddy job is done, you would be the first to complain.

So you wouldn't even allow the contractors to start procuring materials before you start complaining?

Are you aware that road construction requires raw materials?
Are you aware that traffic planning has to be done to avoid logjam.
Are you aware that finance must be planned and allocated.

How about human resource?
And community relations?
And Raining season?

You just wonder at some people.

The same people who feel its alright that Fashola has started projects on Lagos-Badagry road that he cannot finish.
The same people that feel alright that the 51 km Lekki Epe expressway is on its 8th year and yet to be completed.

You really just wonder.
