ujchief: Smh! If our past presidents have this kind of shrewd mentality, we wouldn't have had four (4) functional refineries, ajeokuta steel mill, eleme petrochemicals, onne fertilizer plant etc. Damn, we wouldn't have had 3rd mainland bridge, onitsha bridge and so on. The private sector is mostly not interested in investing in the country mostly because you can't guarantee them adequate power supply. Tell me how GEJ has provided the enabling environment? By blowing hot air that he would fix the power sector? 3yrs later, where are we? About to fix! This is the reason I said some of you should up ur intelligence. Have you asked why MTEL failed here GLO and MTN are reaping billions in profit? Have you asked yourself why our banks are very prosperous where they were failures when Government ran them? Have you asked yourself why SHELL, CHEVRON and MOBIL rake billions in profits where NNPC declares losses? The lesson if you were intelligent enough to see is that Governments by design always fail when they run businesses. And the reason is simple: They are not driven for profit. When Government ran telecoms, they gave us 400,000 phone lines in over 40 years. When the private sector ran telecoms, they gave us 140 million phone lines in 10 years. Go figure! |
illicit: I use to buy Garri for 2naira a cup and kuli kuli 5 pieces for jut 1naira ...now.............And at the time you were buying 2 naira a cup, how much were your parents earning. The same salaries then that were 20,000 naira a year are today 200,000 Naira a month. If this is you reason for a revolution, then you are on your own. If you really want a revolution, start with your local government area. Egypt is a good reason why Nigeria should not even bother about a revolution. Its been only two years and they've replaced thier elected government with an interim one. Nigeria had its revolution way back in the 90's. What we need right now is a mind revolution or better still a cultural revolution. One that seeks to change the attitudes of the regular populace to have a more intelligent outlook to governance. |
There is only one word for this nonsense NOISEMAKING. There is only one name for this group EMPTY BARRELS |
deemdeem: ur example has no relevance to the issue raised. whether america has a billion things to learn or not is none of my business.Thats the exact reason why you should ask OBJ, Abdulsalami, Abacha, Babngida and Buhari why they failed to invest in our military capabilities. Instead they spent money building special forces that would protect them in the event of a coup. Yar Adua's military investments were centred on militancy in the Niger Delta. Jonathan has taken it further. He has super equipped the military to the extent that we can take on anything be it coups, terrorists, militants, or foreign invasion and better still peace keeping and community building. Asking why he didn't use force quickly is lame. Didn't Yar Adua use force quickly. Is that not what resulted in the new and more virulent Boko Harm? Didn't OBJ use force quickly in Odi. Is that not one of the remote causes of the ND Militancy? Strategy demands that you engage forcefully when your capabilities are on point. Imagine a doctor who has no surgical capabilities to transplant a heart, but decides to go ahead with his basic knowledge of a regular operation despite the fact that he can risk the option of acquiring the capabilities even if it would take some time. What would you have to say to that doctor? |
Demdem: [s][/s]I have only one example to give. America: The world's strongest Army. The meanest intelligence gathering capabilities. Most technologically advanced country. 1.5 Million active military personnel. 10 years in Iraq and Afghanistan. $1 Trillion later. Bombs are still going off till this day. Nigeria: An army with zero training on insurgency and counter terrorism pre 2010. Very weak intelligence gathering abilities. Outdated technology dating back to the 70s. 80,000 active military personel. 3 months in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. A few bellion dollars later. Bombs have ceased. Surely, the Americans have something to learn from us. |
DivideUs: nonsense!! how many bombs have gone off since the death of Azazi? we all know who sponsored it and is now blowing nonsense in the air claiming it will be over, like el-rufai said, the FG will stop it when they decide to, a trillion to fight terrorism indeed, thats why govt BH was created and why its all dying down only after the custodian of the money died? isnt it just questionable that since then not a single church was bombed? fresh air, yeah right!!A victim of conspiracy theories. And Shekau reads the Holy bible when he makes his youtube videos yaaa? |
All of them want to rule Lagos but they won't let a yoruba man rule their own oil-rich territories. That's hypocrisy !
Please ehn, Lagos is not Yoruba land, you hear. Lagos is the commercial Capital of Nigeria in the same way Abuja is the Administrative Capital. The question I would ask you is: Who owns Abuja? Well whoever owns Abuja owns Lagos. After the FG used oil money to build all those bridges, you now want to claim Lagos as Yoruba land. You are dreaming. Na we get Lagos. |
simpleseyi: Is Dangote Urea/fertilizer plant being built with FG or GEJ's money? Is Indorma or Notore also owned by FG or GEJ. My friend, list GEJ achievements apart from his 10 presidential jets when other nations' chief executives have one or two while some fly commercial airlinesSome fellows are just simply unintelligent!! So you want Jonathan to steal money like Tinubu and use it to build fertilizer plants in his name before you understand that the role of Government is to create an enabling environment? Why is it lost on you that for over 30 years, not a single fertilizer plant had been built in the country by the private sector then suddenly in 2 years of GEJ, 3 companies suddenly just start building plants valued at $6 billion. You need to up your intelligence man. Read, watch documentaries, play IQ games and think creatively. It would work. |
ujchief: I can see how myopic you guys now are! You are praising the scheme that subsidizes fertilizerYou are living in the past. I will use exactly your speech to show what Fresh Air has done to this country. Dangote is currently building the largest fertilizer plant in Africa somewhere in Edo State. Yes, A $1.9 BILLION plant. They've moved to site already. Plant would be ready in 2014. 10,000 people to be employed. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/tata-appointed-consultants-for-dangote-s-1-9bn-fertiliser-plant/142439/ Indorama is building another fertilizer and Urea plant in Rivers State. The cost is $1.8 billion. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/indorama-to-set-up-1-2bn-fertilizer-plant-in-nigeria/140528/ And Notore(Formerly NAFCON) has just partnered with mitsubushi for the expansion of thier plant at the cost of $1.2 Billion. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/notore-mitsubishi-sign-joint-venture-for-new-fertiliser-plant/114349/ That is a whooping $6 Billion in investments and over 40,000 top quality jobs in just fertilizer and just two years of Agricultural transformation. Now do you see why those that understand trends are screaming Fresh Air?? We are feeling the impact. Real Impact! |
Demdem: Excellent news and very pleasing to the ears. Kudos to the retardeen and the military.About crushing them on time, hmmm I wish you knew how the Nigerian military has been underinvested or misinvested over the years. At the time Jonathan came into power, Nigeria had little or no capacity in handling terrorism. Intelligence gathering capabilities were inept. It takes time to purchase technologies and build capabilities. There is no way the military would have been stupid enough at the time to engage in a battle they couldn't have won. Jonathan has super equipped the miltary and its obvious even in the kind of gear they put on and the ammunition they carry. But more importantly, the capacity to gather intelligence has been built and would serve Nigeria for ages to come. Now, the most interesting thing is this: When Boko Haram is finally over, Nigeria will be the first country to have defeated terrorism. The Americans would have a lot to learn from us. They are definitely taking notes on the "Civilain JTF" strategy. In fact the world would have a lot to learn from the Nigerian strategy given how we have dealt both with the Islamic Insurgency and the Niger Delta Militancy. |
calebo10: Can you sheld more light on "YOUWIN PROGRAM" I wish to know more cus I'm interested in getting loan to kick-start my business. The YOUWIN Program is an entrepreneurship program that gives young aspiring Nigerians with good business plans a grant of up to 10 million Naira to start a business of their choice. You have to be between the ages of 18-45 years. The business plan submission opens once in a year and 6000 of the best plans are selected in the first round. A second round that would choose 1200 from the 6000 is then open. The 1200 winners are eventually given a grant of up to 10 million Naira. All winners would be trained by a world class organisation. This program is the most credible program that has ever been run in Nigeria. No mago mago, no connections. Everything is merit based. You win on the stregth of your business plan. The beautiful thing is that the next opening starts in August. So prepare yourself. The website with all the details is www.youwin.org.ng |
I'd recommend you start your own brand. Mr Biggs is a failing brand and no more as big of a deal as it used to be. The only thing you would need to do is get experts who have experience running setting up successful Fast Food outlets. I can link you up with some if you need for free. Just ask. |
remark D: God bless GEJ and grant him more power to continue the good work.Things are really changing no matter what the opposition wants you to believe. You said a family member got an Agric grant, cool. My closest friend got almost 10 million to start a new business through the YOUWIN Program and the process was the most professionally handled program I've seen a government run. |
koruji: Imagine thatYou call it phantom, but why was it so hard for all the others before him to do. Why couldn't they fix the airports they passed everyday? Why couldn't they kickstart an Agricultural revolution? Why couldn't they fix the major Arterial roads that GEJ is fixing. Why couldn't they just fix one train track and get one train working. Why was it so hard for them to do the right things in the power sector? Why was it so difficult for them to conduct free and fair elections? Why on the planet were companies running to Ghana in their time but running in droves to Nigeria now. Why are there no longer queues at filling stations? Why is Nigeria gaining more respect internationally? Why, why, why is it so easy for GEJ to achieve all these in 2 years and yet was so hard for the previous 7 Presidents to achieve in 30 years. Yet you call it phantom. Pay a visit to the business section of Nairaland and see for yourself the number of Nigerian youths beginning to embrace Agriculture. Ask yourself why GE is investing over $1 billion in Calabr. Or P&G'S $350M. Or Nestle's $1 billion. Or Abraaj's $300m in Fan Milk. Or Tiger Foods. Or Wilmar Group. Or SIAT. Or Olam. Or all the other numerous non oil companies that are trooping like crazy into Nigeria. Its all Phantom to you because you are blinded by either ethnicism, hate or sheer oppositionism. |
Like Play, Like Play, Boko Haram has vanished from the pages of newspapers. Somebody help me say Amen. No more bomb blasts. No more Boko Haram killed this, Boko Haram killed that. We must give thanks to God. We must give kudos to our gallant soldiers who have put thier lives on the line to ensure that we have peace. May this peace continue. And bad roads are also vanishing small by small. And we are beginning to return to the farm big by big. And the trains are coming back slow by slow. And elections are getting freer and fairer. And the biggest prayer of all: And may power failure vanish forever. And corruption. And insecurity. And Unemployment. Its either our prayers are working or Jonathan is working or both of the above. Methinks both of the above. If you agree with me, click the like button. |
Katsumoto: Nigeria really is doomed - the choice will be between an incompetent current president and a Northerner and none of the Northerners is currently showing an iota of competence. It seems a betting man would put his money on GEJ.What baffles me is the fact that the opposition has some pretty credible canditates to post against GEJ, but would rather look for an incompetent Northerner. Its baffling and it leaves me with the impression the the Lion of Bourdillon has other plans with do not include Aso Rock. As per Topic, the biggest reason Jonathan will win 2015 is because those against him have failed to realise that thier constant antagonism against him without justification is what makes majority of his supporters to hold fast onto him. |
won't work. this is a far-fetched useless idea.
Well its already happening and happening fast. The main cost of a cow is the cost of transporting all the way from the north to the south. If cattle is ranched down south, prices will knock crash. It would be less lucrative to buy from the Fulanis.ass is greener down south And guess what? Its already happening. I know throves of southerners who are already ranching. The only problem is that cows don't reproduce fast so it will take sometime before the effect is felt. |
Hot CV I must state. |
Oshiomole is a higly intelligent man. Why the opposition doesn't mention his name as a potential presidential candidate, I don't know. Rather they inundate us with some non performing Northern PDP members as thier potential candidate. How can you have a man like this and open your mouth to say Tambuwal of PDP or BVuhari that has than nothing in the last 30 years should come and take your ticket. |
But truly ehn, Nigerians are gullible ni! We have very pressing challenges that we could discuss as Nigerians. We could talk about a loyt of things that affect us personally. But no. We choose to talk about people that have no love for us. People that don't care if we see a place to eat, to treat ourselves or to lay our head. Visit Port Harcourt and see the mess that the city is. Then you will understand why Rivers people don't care for Amaechi as much as South Westerners and Northerners. |
GT Bank UBA |
The solution is easy. Let southerners begin to farm cattle in ranches and this whole Fulani saga would be over in no time. When there is no one to buy their cattle, they would have no choice but to become farmers and subsequently understand the importance of crops as a food source not for cattle consumption but for human consumption. |
Ol boy!! If earth, with 7 billion people are but a dot, then you suddenly wonder what you are. So Obama dey inside that dot. And Jonathan. And that big building that I saw in Dubai. And all of China. And all of Bill gates money. And someone said that there is no God. Like seriously, God is too big for us to comprehend. Bigger than religion, bigger than our little minds can fathom. Big. So we are not even dots, we live in one massive place that is all but a dot. Kai!! Wetin we come be. |
And you just displayed the very lack of common sense you accused Nigerian youths of having, but the difference is you displayed it on a level that's beyond comprehension. And the point you failed to see is choice...individual choice. If a person chooses joystick over books, the person made a choice. For crying out loud, imagine for a moment that you father gave you out to a 50 year old woman when you were 12 years old. You think you will today have the capacity to use the computer. |
olas2u: GEJ disbanded prohibited goods that were band in Nigeria by Obj and has allowed for continuous importation of refined oil, among so many others things that affects the currency. The problem with ignorance is that you say things that make no sense and yet you say them confidently. Now tell me, Nigeria produces 800,000 metric tonnes of palm oil and consumes 2.1 million Metric tonnes. If you don't allow importation, where is the shortfall of 1.3 million metric tonnes going to come from. Don't you know the consequence on price if that kind of scarcity hits?? You need to know your facts before speaking ignorantly. |
obowunmi: Good. Let them all die.And I hope you know you have family too. |
Hmmm! This battle has gone into spiritualese. The Kongi might have questions to answer. It is not funny oh. I hope its false as Saharareporters is very good at breaking false news. If its true, May her soul rest in peace and may her family be given the fortitude to bear. |
Lovely thread. I love the practical experiences people have placed out here. Reading through the thread was like a complete university course. Okine4real, kudos and a big thank you for starting this thread. Other contributors, a big thank you. I have 70 plots in Edo State and looking to scoop more. I prefer short term crops but more importantly, I prefer crops I can add value and sell at a premium. Palm oil looks real good. But after reading through the thread, I am of the opinion that the best way to succeed in it is for folks to come together, form a cooperative, purchase huge swaths of land, buy mechanized equipments for clearing and employ the services of experts who would monitor the planting process. So imagine 50 people come together and bring together say 1 Million each= 50 million. Based on the calculation I've seen here, you might be able to get a hectare for 250k each in the west.I think Cross River would give you for cheaper. Say you buy 80 hectares. That should cost 20 million. 80 hectares would sit 12,000 palm trees. The cost of 12,000 seedlings= 1.8 million at 150 per seedling. Then you buy machines for clearing instead of over employing labour. A Forest Mulcher would do an excellent job. The beautiful thing with this is that you can hire out your mulcher when you don't need it and it would surely pay for itself in a short while. Budget for a very good Mulcher, say $70,000 which is about 12 million. Then planting, even at 200 naira per seed, your maximum spend is 2.4 million. Based on these, your initial total spend would be: 20m +12m + 2.4m + another say 5.6 m for exigencies. Total= 40m. The balance can be used to run the farm. Now based on the collateral that your farm is, you can now obtain a loan as a cooperative to buy the processing machines. At 6000 litres per hectare, 80 hectares should give about 480,000 litres of crude palm oil At Okinereal's price of 4500 Naira per 25 litre, the yield from crude palm oil alone would look like about 90 million Naira yearly.Monies would also come from palm kernel oil, palm kernel cake, the shells and other parts. So roughly and theoretically, you could be looking at 120 million yearly. I'm not sure my calculations are in order but the point is that coming together to achieve a common goal is more plausible than everybody seeking to go it alone and that's why farmers form cooperative globally. We should think about this. |
I love this thread and more importantly, I love the renewed interest in Agriculture displayed here. NIgeria is defintely on the right path in this generation. For the past 2-3 years, I have been involved in research on Agribusiness Value Chain. I have even founded a company in this regard. Based on that, I'll give my 2cents to the poster and to those others already engaged or seeking to engage in Agriculture. I would start by saying that instead of having an Agricultural mindset, it's a better Idea to have an Agribusiness Mindset. The difference between the price of products sold at farm gate is miles apart from their actual value in the retail markets. With an Agribusiness mindset, you would seek to add value to the products you produce and in turn sell at much better prices. I will use the calculations given by @Olushowumn to butress my point. Based on Olushowumn's calcultions, 1 hectare of land should produce 50,000 hills of corn which would equate to 200,000 cubs. An Igba(not sure what that means) would contain 400-600 cubs and could be sold for between 2000-4000 Naira. Lets use 500 cubs and 3000 Naira as average for an Igba. So, 500 cubs = 1 Igbas = 3000 Naira. 200,000 cubs = 400 bags = 1.2 million Naira per hectare. So your 7 hectare would yeild 8.4 million Naira. Now that's good money. Or so it seems. Now let me tell you how much that amount of corn would be bought be consumers if its boiled or roasted and sold on the streets. 1 roasted or boiled cub of corn sells for 50 Naira each on average. Lets assume that from the 200,000 cubs per hectare, we loose 25% and are left with 150,000 per hectare If that amount of corn were sold retail we would get 150,000 cubs x 50 Naira = 7.5 million per hectare. Your total farm would sell for 7.5 million x 7 = 52.2 million Naira. Yes. 52.5 million Naira is the amount your corn would sell for on the streets by the time a simple value of Roasting or Boiling has been added to it. That is a very long way from what you will get if you choose to sell your corn at the international price of $300 per Metric Tonne. Now this is what you get if you choose to sell you corn on the international market without adding value. Based on you post, you will achieve 3 tons per hectare which is 21 tons for your 7 hectares 1 Metric tonne = Approx. $300 = 48,000 Naira. 21 Metric Tonnes= 21 x $300= $6300 = 1.01 Million Naira. The big question is: Why would I want to sell my corn internationally for 1 Million Naira when I can sell locally wholesale for 8.4 million or retail for 52.2 million Naira. In a nutshell, taking a value added approach to your farming business is the way to go. Selling raw stock for a small farmer with 20 hectares for me is not ideal. Add value. Tweak the Value chain to your favour and see your farnm generate you millions. Thats exactly what the white man has done for ages. They take our Cocoa and turn it to chocolates. While the Cocoa market is worth about $7 Billion dollars annually, the Chocolate market is worth over $100 billion despite the fact that Chocolate is just one of the by products of Cocoa. There are a million things that can be created from your corn. Animal feed. Custard and Pap. Corn Starch. Corn Syrup. Corn Flour. Corn Cake. Corn Oil. And a whole lot more. My best: Developing a cool franchise system where your corn is either Roasted or Boiled at major street junctions. |
Recall him. That's it. Mobilise enough signatures to start the recall process. Trust me, the whole of the Esan community would sign including all the women in his family. |
I hereby summon the likes of Gbawe Eko Ile Garri the 1st and the rest of the ACN gang to a very serious meeting on how to handle this gaffe from from the stable of the Ekiti Government house. He must be warned. Or is he planning to port. How can he say all these good things about the FG. That's insane. |
And in 2018, they will still be saying the same thing because Jonathan's second tenure would be rounding up and the most likely candidate would be a Nigerian whether an Igbo or a Middle Beltan or a Yoruba or Another South Southerner. Just a Nigerian. |
