Gbawe: Indeed. Imaging saying 'Bendelites' run Nigeria just because of a churlish desire to totally disenfranchise the Yorubas and fraudulently diminish their vast actual influence? I actually feel revulsion when I read from this chap these days whereas I credited him with decency previously. The crap from him below, has to be the most dishonest piece of revisionism and outright falsification I have ever read in my life. of course I replied him on the next page of the thread. He is not only dishonest but shameless and self-deceiving in outlook. In as much as I would have loved to engage you intensely on this, I really and sincerely do not have the time. Using words like "deluded fool" wouldn't draw me in. Time is so much of the essence, gat too much work to do. But I would be nice and use a spare five minutes and respond for the sake of posterity!! First, Why the repugnance at the suggestion that Bendelites and Igbos are the smartest Nigerians? Why does that make you cringe? Given the fact that such a claim is naturally open for back and forth assessment, it is questionable that your disposition would be one of extreme bitterness. You do no justice to yourself. You leave readers and viewers with the perception that you are either an tribalist, an ethnicist, a racist or some kind of bigot. Gbawe my friend, don't do this to yourself, ok? Now to your derailed point: I stand by my speech that Bendelites and Easterners have proven themselves without question to be some of the smartest Nigerians. Using your own very misinformed list of bank CEOs,lets take the top five banks in Nigeria and see who found or owns them. 1) Zenith Bank( Bendelite) 2) First Bank (South Westerner heads by appointment) 3) UBA (Bendelite) 4) GT Bank ( South Westerner) 5) Access Bank(Bendelite) Of the Five top Nigerian banks today three were either founded or currently owned by bendelites. For the south west its just one- GT. Other banks founded OR headed by Bendelites include Oceanic bank, Bank PHB, Afribank. For a people with a population of less than 5% of the country controlling almost 30% of the finance industry, that is outstanding. Top 5 banks, 3 Bendelites and you still don't think the smartest Nigerians live or originate from there? Ok lets talk Media. Guardian Newspapers(Bendelite) Ibru Thisday Newspapers (Bendelite) Obiagbena Vanguard Newspapers(Bendelite) Amuka Channels TV (Bendelite) Momoh AIT (Bendelite) Dokpesi I can go on ........... Or should we talk about sports? Or University enrollment? Or business contributions? Or Economic indices like per capita GDP and HDI?? Or Telecoms: MTN - South Africans Glo- South West- Adenuga Zain- Indians Etisalat- Hakeem Bello Osagie- Bendelite!! Or back to topic: AIRPORTS. Delta and Edo which make up the old Bendel have three very functional airports amongst themselves. Benin, Warri and Asaba. Warri and Benin airports are the 4th and 5th busiest airport in the country by passenger volume and aircraft frequency. The new Asaba Airport without question is currently the best Airport in the country. Now the interesting part is that just the Benin Airport alone commands more passenger traffic and flight frequencies than all the airports in the 5 South West states put together!! You can add Kwara and Kogi state if you like and the result remains the same!! Airport traffic is a good measure for economic sophistication as well as quantum of middle class . How cities as large as Ibadan, Abeokuta, Ogbomosho, Akure and so on survive without a functional airport is mysterious. It is either their economies are largely rural or citizens are at the bottom of the rung depending solely on their proximity to Lagos(a melting pot of different nationalities)as their route to utopia!! And about Airlines........ the best two airlines in the country are owned by Bendelites...hehe!! Arik Air- Ikhide Aruremi Johnson Aero- Ibru And that was just Bendel..........If I now add the South East which I added in my earlier post.....hmmm Mr Gbawe!! |
infofirst: Asked a German journalists calling for the Muslim Saladin Baavugin about the relationship between terrorism and Islam, he replied:The big difference is this; In all the cases you called, none was done in the name of Christianity. All the Bomb blasts and terrorism are done in the name of Islam. Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Al Shabab and the rest are all doing their thing in the name of Allah!! Thats the difference. Colonialism was wrath in the name of Great Britain. Slavery was wrath in the name of America and in a smaller scale Europe. Hiroshima was wrath in the name of America. The list goes on. Boko Hram reads from the Koran to perpetuate their actions.....its a big difference my friend!! |
Kolababa: "Do not let your hatred of a people incite you to aggression"The Islam we have come to know is the one Boko Haram, Al Qaeda, the Taliban and Sharia Pundits have shown to us. It is one of bombs, wars, violence and extreme aggression. It is one that oppresses women beyond reason and one that preaches hate towards non Muslims. This might not be what Islam was intended to be, but it is what we have come to know it as. And it is such because, muslims who abhor these acts fail to stand up aggressively against the actions of these evil groups. We all have come to know Chinese products as sub standard, doesn't mean all Chinese goods are such. The world has come to know Nigerians with 419, doesn't mean all Nigerians are such. We all have come to know politicians with corruption, doesn't mean all politicians are corrupt. We all have come to know Christianity with Prosperity and Healing because that is the dominant push into the space by their propagators. Rich Pastors, huge crowds, Faith Healing, Music, tithes, etc! Islam's dominant push is terrorism, repression and intolerance because the loudest propagators are the terrorists and the extremists. Every stereotype becomes the dominant reality except the silent majority wakes up and takes back the ownership of their perception by populating the space with their intended/assumed original outlook. Until liberal Muslims rise up and speak vehemently against extremism, violence and terrorism perpetuated in the name of Islam, it would continue to be perceived as a terrible religion and sooner or later fade out as more educated children of Muslims begin to question the validity of their parents religion in comparison to other more peaceful and prosperous religious forms. The prognosis for Islam in the near future I must admit is one of extinction except the liberals stand up and fight the war against extremism. |
nitrogen: What a failed state! And you the Bright and Cluefull one, how come you haven't done much with you life yet?? How come you don't even run a small organisation!! Cluefull folks like Mark Zuckerberg are doing big things... what are you doing with all you clues Mr Bright Cluefull?? |
They've awoken a sleeping giant!! They finally crossed the line!! A sad commentary on the cacophony called Nigeria!! The only reason Boko Haram is here is because a minority Southerner is President! If the President as little as gets malaria or has a little running stomach anytime between now and June, then these folks and their sponsors will know that the fact that we mock at Madam First Lady's Engriisssh, doesn't mean we care nothing about our president!!Any attempt and We will split the country in a second!! But to think of it, these guys are cowards!! You are hiding somewhere and making videos!! Throwing bombs at innocent unarmed citizens. Everybody can do that. It only takes a deadening of the conscience!! Lets strike a deal with Boko Haram: If after three months, Goodluck Jonathan is still walking, then the man is stronger than their "god".In which case they would have to stop fighting for their god and start worshiping GoodLuck Jonathan. He will offer them much more than their god has to offer!! Nonsense Imbecilic Grandstanding!! |
Wow!! What a good woman! She is the best civil servant in the country!! |

dayokanu: The same Papabrowne of the spin and sell fameSpin and spell is essential in marketing and Obama used it effectively on the American populace in 2008!! Would use it today, tomorrow and the day after. It is a tested and tried principle!! And it works perfectly on a populace that refuses to acquire adequate knowledge!! So if you don't wan't to be a victim, get knowledge, adequate one at that!! About the Airports, I know what you reference with regards to contractors abandoning projects. Trust me, this one looks different. They seem to mean business. The changes that have taken place between January and March are remarkable. You would know they mean business. It appears like things are changing in the country, albeit slowly!! |
Papabrowne again? The propagandist? Didn't he lose his credibility earlier from the roads incident?
Did he lose his credibility?? Naah!! He has been vindicated beyond measure!! Check. Linda Ikeji of BellaNaija fame has just done justice to that issue!! Again I repeat, the Benin Ore Road has been fixed! Check!! In the same vein, massive remodelling works are going on at the airports! In my opinion, thats improvement and I will celebrate!! |
Kolababa: I work in the airport. The tiles they are removing are far better than the new ones. All na in the name of awarding contract to chop. So many things are begging for attention in the Murtala Muhammed Airport, these looters will not fix them, they will only do the ones passengers will see. Have you ever experience a situation you checked in bags in good shape but when you receive your bag when you arrive, your bag is damaged. This is due to bad conveyor belt. If you go to the airside, you will weep for Nigeria. Things are terribly bad there. Think of the elevators, have you ever been trapped inside any of the lifts? If you get trapped inside any of these bad elevators, you will call your father your mother. texazzpete: Only in Nigeria will someone be jubilating at a lacklustre 'renovation' when thousands of passengers daily are fleeced of N1000 all in the name of FAAN charge. Why all this pessimism. We are seeing for the first time something we've never seen in this country!! Even if they just spray paint the place, it surely does call for some kind of commendation. That there is work going on at all gives us a reason to smile!! We all hail Fashola, but if we must face the truth, Lagos is a huge mess and he has barely scratched the surface of a decay that runs deep within, but still we all know to commend the miniscule things he has done!! The same way we commend Fashola for the almost nothing he is doing, is the same way we should commend the FG for the little they are doing to provide us with better airports!! This pessimism will not lead us anywhere. Where there is good, we must commend, where there is bad, we must condemn. Its simple! |
I've been flying through Nigerian airports since 1999 and every time I pass, I wonder at our leadership because that is one eyesore that they get to use on a regular basis!! They don't ply our roads so they don't experience the mess, they have generators so they don't know NEPA, They have the best security, so they can't be worried about armed robbery. If they fall sick, they treat in the best hospitals worldwide. But the airports, they get to use them everyday. So I couldn't understand why on earth they had no interest in fixing it. Anyways, at last, there is massive remodeling going on at the airports. Landed Murtala Mohammed on Thursday and was happy to see intense works going on. Then got to the Benin Airport and found that it was a remodeling galore!! I was glad and hopeful that finally there is improvement!! Anybody with pictures of the renovations should please post here. I hear the remodeling is taking place in 11 airports across the country |
To be sincere, I totally agree with him!! My Glo Broadband is faster than what I get in some world class hotels in Asia and Europe!! Recently, I had this argument with someone and he couldn't believe me!! The only problem is reliability!! Somedays you don't get that crazy speed!! However, this guy is probably staying in some crazy hotel in Lag and as he said, it might not be representative of the situation across board!! Truth be told, internet speeds have radically increased in Nigeria!! |
To all those complaining that the video doesn't match the song, or that it misses the African thingy, Do you really think you are the audience? The audience is well off kids in Europe, America and Asia who are willing to fork out $17-25 dolls on an album, not those 1 dollar bootlegs sold across Africa!! Videos are marketing tools ang they are made micro targeted to specific audiences!! That beat is different. Those well off kids will definitely be banging their head to that, and if not anything else they would at least be rocking the Azonto dance that the white boy did in that video at the next sorority party!! |
I think there are Ijaws in every area where you find water. Ondo,Edo,Delta,Bayelsa,Rivers,Akwa Ibom and Cross River. Even in the creeks of Lagos you find Ijaws who have been there for ages. I personally cannot comprehend 16 Million, but 10 million would be fair game and if 10 million is it, then surely they are the fourth largest in the country. But really what advantage does having a huge population have anyway?? Hausas are by far the Largest ethnic group and yet the poorest by a long shot. Itsekiris are barely noticeable with population of much less than 1 million and yet they are doing pretty good. Off the shores, Bangladesh- 160 million people. GDP- $266 Billion Singapore- 5 Million people. GDP- $290 Billion Population= zero advantage = huge liabilities. except you know how to use it right. |

Demdem: Demdem:Really By any count the Niger Delta states are doing better off than any of the Northern states by a long shot. (oil revenues or not)While revenues might be only about 4 times higher, Economic activity in the Niger Delta is much more than ten times that in the North. Interestingly, there is more wastefulness in the impoverished north by its leaders than there is wastefulness in the stinkingly rich Niger Delta(in comparison to the North) I've been in the north and in the Niger Delta, the poverty and disease in the North should be some of the worst in Africa. Niger Delta on the other hand has some of the highest per capita income in all of Africa. My point in a nutshell is simple. The thieving of resources is a nationwide phenomenom but is worse off in the North. So stop pointing fingers as though that is an exclusive preserve of Niger Delta leaders. Of the six key Niger Delta Governors, 4 can stand out as outstanding performers- Amaechi, Imoke, Oshiomole, Akpabio. Even Uduaghan has done a good job when juxtaposed side by side most of the Northern governors. |
webstradamus: denzel2009: 8figure:I had to make the transaction. I didn't have a choice but to take the risk. What gave me confidence is the extra security provided by the little device called the token. My account is safe. But I have moved funds out of it to my other accounts. Asides, if anything happens, GT would have to pay for it. |
I experienced it 2 days ago and yesterday. I had to make a very important transfer so I had to look for a way around. I observed that the problem existed in Chrome and Mozilla browsers, so I tried Explorer and it worked without problems. Funnily, I called GTBank to report the incident and the customer care representative said he hasn't gotten any reports of that nature, which I could tell he was lying cos he went ahead to assure me that it would soon be resolved. However since then, I have been checking my account balance regularly!! Isn't good at all for a banks we repose so much trust in. |
QUESTION ypzilanti:BEST ANSWER> anonimi: |
Any smart reader would tell that this is not from Boko Haram!! The typical Boko Haram write-up would be filled with many Islamic lexicons This one has none of such instead it references Christian analogies. Secondly, this is too mild and without the typical Boko Haram violent incensed threats. And one Big question, why did they refer to "the 71 year old general without mentioning him but they made mention of the Sultan. My honest opinion: This article has one single purpose. Make it look like Babangida is not with Boko Haram!! Every finger has been pointing in his direction and he crowned it with his nonsense speech of "Doctrines of settled Issues", Mind you, there are some people within our heartlands, including that 71-year old general(BABANGIDA) who wants to fight for Nigeria again, who are against us and against this conference we have called. When you hear the general talk about the Doctrine of Nigeria’s Settled Issues, he is just foaming in the mouth. He has lost his soul and simply wants to protect his privileges in the corrupt enclave called Nigeria. |
I noticed just now too rather than typing "Edo", you are typing "EDO." While I respect my neighbors the EDO and their culture and historical accomplishments, I am also proud of that of my own people, the yoruba. Hehe Please do not mistake friendliness and general goodwill for subservience, fawning, envy, or whatever else you seem to think.
Hehe!! You guys are just funny!! I just tested a principle in cultural anthropology and you are already giving in. Its good to be proud of your heritage. I have ignored mine for far too long, I should start and take it to another level. My belief about ethnicity: It is largely a figment of our imagination as the only concrete factor proving our ethnicity is the word from our parents telling us we are this tribe or that tribe. If a Yoruba man tells his kids that they are Ibo, they would live their lives defending the IBO! Ethnicity is just that- Word from our parents defining our identity. Words that in themselves could be totally wrong. |
Err ![]() Then you missed the point. Here is the game: 1) SS+SE alliance depends on viewing the two other major ethnic groups in Nigeria as enemies. 2) If a part of the SS is chummy with one of those groups, then this story some are trying to sell is not credible. It has nothing to do with some sort of love, admiration, superiority of Edos or whatever. . . the OP's agenda was purely political. Like, I am scratching my head wondering how you totally missed the road in this whole thread.
errm . . . no! I didn't miss the point. I know its all politics. And I stated my views early enough. But my reference here is to the undertones by both parties and they depict a prostration and a validation of superiority of the EDO heritage. A neutral reader will come up with the conclusion that the group being discussed is perceived as seniors by the discussing groups. |
PhysicsQED:@PhysicsQED I get it. And I've seen all that thru the thread. But I've ignored it in light of the fact that there is nothing so much valuable in the Land per se. On this argument, The value is more in the heritage than in the Land. Again I might just be naive. |
PhysicsQED:You got the whole piece wrong. In the first place I have little or no ethnic attachment(not good), talk less of an ethnic ego. Secondly, even though on the facade it feels like a pawn in a chess game btw the two, the undertones from both parties (Yoruba and Igbo) in this argument portray and accord a seeming superiority towards the EDOs. If a total stranger goes through this thread, he would be left with the opinion that the EDO people must be of a special breed. That's the point I tried to present albeit in subtlety. I'm aware the moat is deteriorated, however I still feel there is so much potential as there is room for restoration. I have been in Basilicas in Europe that were destroyed during the World War but have been restored even better and attract millions of tourists!! I agree with you slightly though and I must admit also, much of what what I learned through this thread came from your write-ups. |
Very Interesting thread. 25 pages in 3 days!! You learn everything here. History, Politics, Geography, Comedy, Sociology, Anthropology, everything. In all, I come to one conclusion. The EDO Heritage is a special one and everybody wants to be a part or have some association with it. Its interesting to watch people of other cultures debate your heritage(one which you've long ignored) with so much passion and emotion. It kind of wakes you up and tells you to take advantage!! *Suddenly, I feel like going back home to open a Museum gather all our artefacts scattered worldwide and present with well documented historical data so everyone that wants to be a part of the heritage can visit and educate himself. *I feel like making great movies out of the those great stories resplendent in Benin History. * I feel like doing tours taking tourists through the rustic ancient city of Benin and weaving thru some of those great landmarks like the Moat and the Oba's Palace *Suddenly I feel like opening art galleries filled with bronze works from Igun Street. Its just an extremely rich Heritage. And I don't blame anyone for wanting a part of it. Thanks for the awakening peeps!! NB Politically Speaking: Edo's are very welcoming peeps and we love everyone whether East or West!! However, politically speaking we are of the South South and whoever goes with the South South would be with us!! We must be very special groom for these brides to be fighting overt us ; ![]() |
You guys are funny oh!! What has my point got to do with PDP. I am a supporter of GEJ doesn't make me supporter of PDP. FYI, I dislike PDP. Fashola and Oshiomole, both ACN governors are my best performers in the country, so pls don't attach me GEJ but not with PDP. About political affinity, there is no way BINIs would want any connection with the west, neither would they want to connect singularly with the east . Binis would go anywhere the south south would go and the reasons are plenty. Many groups in the south south are affiliated with and look up to Benin- Urhobo, Isoko, Agbor, Itsekiri's and the likes. Since the south south of recent has begun aligning with the East politically, it is only natural for the BINIs to align where their south south brothers bend towards. Our cultural affinity lies with the south south and we feel more comfortable in the south south. This is the general opinion of every Edo person I communicate with. @alj harem |
SEE ARGUMENT OOH!! 18 pages already!! People are working so hard to claim partnership with the Binis. I never knew we were that loved!! Anyways, this is my opinion. Both Igbos, Yorubas and lots of other tribes have similarities with the EDOs for the simple fact that historically the influence of the Bini Kingdom spread across board all the way from Onitsha through the whole of Yoruba land down to Dahomey(today known as Benin Republic) and even Ghana. The argument is baseless. It is like America and Australia arguing over who is closer to the British There has been a lot of back and forth on this thread that would lead us to no where. The only thing the thread ends up affirming, is the superiority of the Edo Heritage. A very proud heritage at that. What is important then would be the opinions of Edos on the said question; Where would the Edo's rather lean towards- West or East + South?? Truth be told, Every EDO man would rather be in the same nation with the South East and South South for various reasons and never in the same nation with the South West where they would be in the minority. The demand for the creation of MID WEST state from the then western region is enough to prove the aspirations of EDO people. Again, why does everybody want to claim affinity?? I simply don't get it!! How special can the EDO's be?? |
