PhysicsQED: Not all that surprising that there's been some slight improvement in this area so far actually.I totally agree. This is one area where there is remarkable activity. Adesina is doing all the right things and the sector is picking up fast. You will be amazed at the number of people who are seeking to key into Agribusiness opportunities because of the right message Adesina is sending. |
aurenflani: Inasmuch as u ppl would sentimentally love to blame Muslims as an entity for the crazy menace called boko haram, it still doesn't changed d fact that Muslims to are saddened and unhappy that innocent men and women are being killed in this murders which of course has been recording victims from both sides of d divide.Nonsense. It is supported by those who believe they are born to rule this country. |
Saifullah01: @kobo, I thought the mantra was presumed innocent until proven guilty! How does targeted killings of people at gonin gora highway (Abuja kaduna) or television (inside kaduna). If we are to suspect anything, I would say these were innocent travellers and bystanders. Coz going by precedence the attackers would either be miles away or armed with guns shooting at random.Ideologies are deep rooted. That article says "suspected" and it references the opinions of the attackers. I get your point though. Its funny how unknown to you, you are using the same exact line of reasoning as that which Boko Haram gave as excuse for bombing Thisday. And thats why I say Ideologies are deep-rooted. Is it by coincidence that your position doesn't defer too much from that of Boko Haram? Check. To be fair, I would explain to you what irks most people. Boko Haram attacks churches with the aim of instilling fear in Christians and preventing them from worshipping freely and leaders like El Rufai, Buhari and all the northern leaders never say a word in condemnation and sometimes go as far as saying its christians doing the bombings. Truth is Christians in the north have been very patient. To think that these bombings are so that power can return to the north in 2015 is just sad and pathetic. The same media that was bombed by Boko Haram is whom you ask to be balanced in their reporting?? They would report the truth as they see it not as you want them to see it. |
otokx: In my area of Port Harcourt power remains a problem, we just bribed NEPA with 140 000 to rehabilitate a transformer the same NEPA people vandalized after 7 weeks of darkness. In the past 48 hours we have had 8 - 10 hours of electricity only for the neutral line to go of and its back to square 0.Next time you want to bribe NEPA, get a PEN camera first so we can weatch it here live on Nairaland. |
Eziachi: No your Beaf is totally wrong.Oga mi, the PDP you are condemning wins elections because they understand politics, They are surely not the best party, but they have the best politicians. If you want another party winning elections, advice them to study politics.Politics is about the grassroots and until your alternative options build structures across the country, all your shout about PDP would be in vain. I dislike much of what is the PDP but I also understand that performance is not a party thing but a thing of personal capacity, no matter what party you belong. @Topic. This initiative should not be discouraged as it encourages us to take our destinies into our hands. Let our direct Representatives feel the heat individually and they would begin to sit up. It is we the people that have the power to change this nation and until we begin to use that power the change we await would wait awhile. |
Genious!!! Couldn't stop cracking up. |
The writing style makes it difficult to read through. There are a thousand threads so there is attention deficit. If you want comments, highlight the high-points of your essay so that peeps can understand your speech without having to read it all. |
SUSTAINABILITY. How do you sustain a university without any grants or tuition fees. Wouldn't quality be affected seriously. Except he is going to use tax payers money to run it. Seriously,a university is totally different from a secondary school. |
achukwunet:As if the Government of Nigeria is not made up of the citizens of Nigeria. The Government is a reflection of the citizenry!! Every Government official was a regular citizen yesterday. |
And all the passengers came down from the flight and went about their daily businesses and we expect change to happen just like that! E go tae!! Imagine for a moment the passengers decided to picket the whole airport on their arrival, choose to sue the aviation authorities afterwards and raised effective awareness about the risk they had to undergo because of some VIPs, the next time such an order has to be given, the authorities would think twice. Nigeria is as it is because the citizens love to talk nonsense and watch premier league. When we get serious, change would start happening. |
I'm human. If my father steals, I will do all I can to protect him. But I will also resign my position to maintain the sanctity of the institution. There is law and there is love. For me, love supercedes the law. Would I jail my uncle if he steals, I probably would. And my cousins. Probably yes too. But my Father, Mother Brothers and Sisters, Never! I will protect them with my last drop of blood. Same way America would hardly ever allow its citizens be tried in another country under another persons law. But I get your point though. We need to start standing up for the truth and fix the rot within ourselves first before we have the morality to tackle the rot in the Government. |
NO WONDER OBJ SAID " THOSE PEOPLE(reps) ARE THIEVES". That man never says anything without meaning!! Looks like he had watched the video!! And they were here deceiving Nigerians that they were fighting for them well as they were filling their pockets. That's the same probe El Rufai has been screaming about!! Now he will shut his trap. |
She's not a minister. That was an award ceremony and she was the recipient of an award. Asides, I would rather have a tattoo wearing, nose piercing, dreads carrying performer than have a clean skin thief serve in any capacity. |
Can't wait for the video to appear on Youtube!! In a normal society, His constituents should be gearing up for a recall!! |
Was it not proved that she was indicted? Even if its the same people allegedly collecting marked notes, what aboout her case? What has she not been fired yet and sent to jail before we face the people with the marked notes? Its what I said earlier, corruption coming back to fight back
If I indict you for selling drugs on the ground that I saw a junkie coming out of your house, does that make you a drug dealer?? No bro, its just an indictment,an allegation awaiting proof. Now, if I produce a video of you collecting money from a junkie and giving him a white substance, that would make me you a drug dealer.Proof is the word! Below is the definition of Indictment. An indictment ( /ɪnˈdaɪtmənt/ in-dyt-mənt), in the common-law, is a formal accusation that a person has committed a crime. Mr Globe,I now indict for low level intelligence!! Wonder whether that makes you dumb or its just an allegation. |
What has become pretty obvious is that the tactlessness of the opposition is the main reason why the PDP will keep winning elections! In presidential elections only two things count. 1) National Personality 2) National Political Structure Nigeria is a very diverse country. If you have one and lack the other forget victory. ACN fielded Ribadu in the last elections but the South West overwhelmingly voted Jonathan. Buhari has being defined as a regional candidate and therefore would never win an election. PDP wins elections because, BAD AS IT IS, it is the only National party. If the opposition wants victory, they must look beyond regionalism and focus on building a new party that has structures enough to counter the PDP. |
How this will solve the problems of hundreds of thousands of poor Urhobos, I'm yet to see. ~Oh we feel marginalized but just appoint our elites to go chop money and our problems will be solved~ LOL Unparalled idiocy. .SMH
Exactly what I was about to ask! What contribution did previous Urhobo appointments do to the development of Urhobo communities. Even Ijaws that have the President, how has Bayelsa state or other Ijaw enclaves changed in the last 5 years? All these are political trollers with no interest in development. |
This is the best Minister of Aviation we've ever had in this country! It's pretty obvious, except you've not been in any of the major airports recently!! 11 Airports being renovated at a go! And she's being there just one year. What did the other Ministers do in the last 13 years?? |
One question for Buhari and his fans!! Show me one contribution of Buhari in his immediate environment. Just one. Maybe a school he supplied with chalkboards or computers. Maybe some poor kids he has put on scholarship. Maybe a health center he has helped equip. I want just one example because I don't know how a man with so much influence does absolutely nothing privately to improve his environment. He only talks about elections and corruption. There is so much to do between now and 2015 that would help better the lot of many. With the influence Buhari commands in the north, he can do so much to positively motivate a change from the culture of indolence prevalent in the north. But no, he would do nothing because he has a mental problem that makes him think he has some kind of entitlement to the seat of power. |
I've been following Kasuwa and Konga to see who will eventually take the lead. Never knew Konga belonged to the Dealdey guy. Kasuwa eventually launched this week. I don't think I'm very impressed(I haven't used them so my judgement is faulty). It's a complete Amazon clone especially in looks. Beautiful site though. Their prices are not super impressive. The IPAD2 is cheaper at SLOT than at KASUWA. I would have thought they would start out with rock bottom prices to attract the crowd. @article. I think the whole cashless banking thingy is bringing about some level of confidence amongst Nigerians with regard to online payments. This would definitely spur web commerce. |
hakwise: In as much as it made sense with ur submission....I like U̶̲̥̅̊ to look at it this way ...most of †ђξ citizens of these advanced countries we look up to Ħª√ę as much rotten peoplee we Ħª√ę in nigeria...but do U̶̲̥̅̊ know why they r better than us ...its becos they built institution that is strong enough to check their peoples excesses ...human nature naturally is evil !! Just like president obama rightlly noted ..we should really start building institutions, right mentality that would outlive us all...U̶̲̥̅̊ and I can't start that n expect †ђξ much desired effect or result except it start from †ђξ top.....so my take still goes to our leaders ...we av been so unlucky to av †ђξ wrong peoplee at †ђξ helm of affairs...†ђξ moment we start to Ħª√ę †ђξ right n progressive thinking leaders...things would take shape believe M̶̲̥̅ε̲̣̣̣̥ ..so nigerians should stop this attitude of I must vote for my tribe oor its tribe A or B's turn..we should start lookin out for qualities nt ethinicity ...I agree with you very much. But ask yourself, who will man these institutions? Its the populace, most of whom would be seeking to enrich themselves. I've lived in two advanced countries and I can tell you that without a supportive population, there would be no impact from a good government. Ask yourself, why do Nigerians go abroad and end up in jails for drug dealing? Did the government put them thru some kind of training on how to deal drugs? Why do indians on the other hand go out there and open shops?? Its culture my broda! Our culture must change. We must learn to take responsibility for our failures and stop passing the buck. |
Akiika: Every human, be it Nigerian, American, English e.t.c have the propensity to misbehave. It is the rule of law that straighten people up, do you guys think if there was no rule of law being implemented in these developed nations they'll be where they are today? Who should ensure the rule of law takes effect? --GOVERNMENT....as terrible as any nigerian may be, once you get to these countries, you adjust to obey their laws.Who is to enforce that rule of law? Is it the corrupt lawyers and judges that hang around our court houses?? Or the police officers who have no interest in law enforcement? I want an answer. How does a good leader control 300,000 killer policemen, 3 million thieving civil servants and 30 million criminals? How does a good leader control 10 million Almajiris, 1 million Cultists and 100,000 Kidnappers? How does a good leader control 2 million militants and 200,000 terrorists? Fashola with all his good intentions and 5 years of leadership, Lagos is still one of the most uninhabitable places on the face of the planet with some of the worst standards of living, the most decrepit infrastructure and yet one of the most expensive enclaves in the world. If only the citizens complemented his effort, by doing their own bit; paying their taxes and keeping their environments neat, painting their houses and obeying the traffic rules, training their kids right and helping their neighbor, Lagos would've been a much better place. But no, we've been trained wrong to believe that our lives belong to some entity called government so where that entity fails we resign to fate. The thing we so easily call government is consisted of people that all belong in society. |
I understand your point of view but I have to side with PapaBrowne. In order for the government to move first, like you astutely wrote, it has to be mostly comprised of responsible and visionary citizens. If they were already inept and irresponsible as ordinary citizens, it would unrealistic to assume that they would function appropriately when they are in the chambers of power. Indeed, it would be safe to assume that their unbecoming characteristics would be greatly underscored by their powers. Take America for example, wherein the government was created by representatives of the people---the founding fathers of America; these men, though not perfect, were visionaries who created the greatest nation on earth. If Nigeria must change, it must be from the bottom, for if a tree has problems at the root, it would be unwise to cut the leaves, or the branches, or the top, but the remedy would be to uproot it. Nigerians have to change, or else our children and grandchildren will spend their time arguing amongst themselves about our seemingly insurmountable woes, and distributing blame unto others---especially the government---,just like our fathers and grandfathers did.
Words of extraordinary wisdom! |
Is that Fashola's Lagos?? What a mess!! Where the heck are the authorities responsible for disaster management?? No fire fighters! No Emergency health and first aid personel! No law enforcers tgo manage the crowds!! Nothing! Or are they supposed to come from Abuja?? That scene looks like much more than an hour after!! |
koruji: This is complete upside down. If we have to do personal stuff before government lives up to its responsibilities why do we need a government before we can accomplish this personal chores.Very funny. Wish you can think about the reality of our existence for a moment. What is Government and what does it consist of. It consists of humans that yesterday were a part of the regular society. So Big Question: Why do people that yesterday were a part of the regular society get to into the place called "government" and become neanderthals? Answer, because the regular society is filled with neanderthals in the waiting. All they need is an environment that would help them bring it out. The place called government is that perfect environment. The biggest problems we face steer us in the face in our everyday life. We see our friends steal the office dry and we either join them or turn a blind eye. The same students screaming Jonathan is clueless for renaming UNILAG would be cheating in class when exams start tommorow. The same doctors that are cursing on Fashola are selling drugs given free to patients. The market woman cheats. The Okada rider steals. The bank worker is a fraudster and the fast food owner is deliberately selling rotten chicken. And you know why?? Because they are all rotten and would do worse when given the perfect environment!! Ask yourself, why is it Nigerians selling drugs on the streets of Europe, Thailand and Brazil?? Why not Zambians or Peruvians or Cambodians?? Now tell me, does the Nigerian Government train these people in the art of Drug dealing?? Or is Nigeria the only country with a messed up leadership?? THINK MAN, THINK. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH OUR CULTURE. A CULTURE THAT PREVENTS US FROM TAKING RESPONSIBILITY, BUT ENCOURAGES BLAME SHIFTING. Change will come only when people begin to seek to influence their little environment! It would start from the ground up. |
The leaders we talk about, were all members of the populace yesterday before they went to Abuja. Truth be told, the current situation of the country is a reflection of the people that inhabit the country. The sad thing is that rather than look inwards, we are deflect our responsibilities and point hands at the leaders(people whose existence is totally dependent on us). To get a better picture, look at the interiors of where Nigerians live, where Government has no jurisdiction over its functionality, and you'll find squalor and filth as a cultural anecdote. Filthier than the exteriors we blame the governments for failing to fix. The problem is with 'we the people" and the revolution that we seek can only start from within us. Before you ask Abuja to fight corruption, what have you done about the sleaze going on in your office? Before you ask Abuja to fix the road, what have you done about your filthy unpainted house? Before you ask Abuja to fix the hospitals, what have you done about your broken sewage? Before you ask Abuja to fix education, stop cheating and exam malpractice!! The revolution that would change this country can only start from withing us because the rot has corrupted every fabric of the society! |
Let them start. We don dey wait tire!! |
Would you be able to know who is following you or better put, will people you are following know you are following them? I think its a pretty good idea! More community, less anonymity. |
jason123: You better tell them!Didn't intend to disappoint. It just started getting really appalling how Abiola's name was been bruised for mere sentiments. The rejection has been written in the annals of history and his place in the hearts of those that have rejected his honour has been defined. About the SW labelling, i really didn't intend to offend any groups of people. I actually plucked my speech right out of the mouth of Bamidele Aturu, Lagos Based Constitutional lawyer. |
koruji: What you are seeing is not what your provocative title suggests.First I agree with majority of your speech except for some few areas. Secondly, I didn't cast any aspersions on any ethnicities. The last I checked the South West is a geographical location populated by a myraid of ethnicities. So which one in particular did I cast an aspersion upon? |
Absolutely brilliant! Made his case without desecrating the legacies of MKO. Very unlike what many others have done. |
