A bride who stole £200,000 from her employers to pay for a lavish wedding has been jailed.

Part-time accounts assistant Kirsty Lane, 30, transferred the funds from Pure AV's bank account into that of her and her future husband, Graham.

The fraud was discovered shortly after the pair's wedding at the Great Hall at Mains, near Blackpool in January 2011.

Lane, of Lewis Close, Adlington, Lancashire was sentenced to 20 months in prison at Preston Crown Court.

She stole about £122,000 from the Leyland company, which installs audio-visual equipment, by putting in fake invoices, marking them as paid and then depositing the money into her own account.

She also diverted about £70,000 through her husband's account, which she told him were savings, salary and bonuses. About £6,000 was transferred into a third account.

Company director Peter Sutton said Lane had cost the firm about £300,000, due to tax and VAT payments, and put the "livelihoods of 20-plus people" in jeopardy.

'Lavish wedding'
Police said Lane began working for Pure AV in May 2007 and started siphoning money into her account in December 2008.

A spokesman said the offences had continued until she left the company for her wedding on 23 January 2011 by which time she had made a total of 122 fraudulent transactions.

He said a large proportion of the money had been used to fund her "lavish wedding" which included a free bar, musicians, fireworks, a magician and face-painting.

He added that Lane had also used the cash to pay for home improvements and items such as a large television, a Tag Heuer watch, an iPod, compact mirrors and car keys covered in Swarovski crystals and personalised car registration plates.

He said she had "abused her position of trust to steal from her employer and fund a lavish lifestyle".

Speaking in Lane's defence, Amanda Johnson said she was a woman of good character who suffered from low self-esteem and the offending coincided with the time she met her husband.

"She felt that money and the trappings that money could buy would make her a more attractive proposition," she said.

She said Lane thought she could "make herself more attractive to him by having money and being able to spend it on gifts and holidays".

'Cynical exploitation'
Passing sentence, Judge Pamela Badley said the "modest" first amounts of cash Lane stole from the company had escalated and gone on to fund a luxury lifestyle.

Judge Badley said her behaviour had been "fraudulent from the outset" and told her she had taken part in a "cynical exploitation of the small company for which you worked".

Speaking after sentencing, Mr Sutton said Lane had been "a trusted member of the team and she had been in that position for a number of years".

He said she defrauded the company in a complex way and there had been no obvious "digital trail".

"We just wanted it over. It's the end of a traumatic time in our existence and the legal system has prevailed," he said.

Graham Lane was found not guilty to one count of money laundering at Preston Crown Court on an earlier date.

Last time I checked, Christians are the list people you should run to when you need help. They are hypocrites and would do everything to please their Pastors rather than you the needy.

Din't wanna say anything @ first, but now I must. It is somewhat incomprehensible but totally unapologetically to label these churches in the manner in which @ poster just did.

These are my findings and truth about these churches:

Pastors of these days now use a whole Sunday service to preach about tithes.
Churches now devote time and prayers for tithers and none for non-thithers.
Most Pentecostal Pastors are dubious. They often guessed and call out 3 or more people with problems to come out for special prayers (it's not a rocket science)
Coincidentally, most of these Pastors have similar past with same story of how they are blessed with monetary gift (Something thought in Bible school)
Churches have now abandoned the "give to your neighbour" slogan but would rather tell you to give to the church.
Churches now make you feel bad for not having enough, always quoting "Jesus was rich", and "it is a sin to be poor" (Not all will be rich: Word!)
Churches encourages people to steal in order not to be left out when others are giving testimonies.
Pentecostal Churches discriminate between the rich and those struggling.
The mega Churches now take upto 4 different offerings from its congregation

* I notice some malamu and apoche Xtians saying the Church does not force you to give. Really? Have you heard some Pastors preach their Armageddon sermon? They scare the Poo out of their congregations. They condemn those not tithing and even go as far as saying they would die with gun shots if not tithing (ask Creflo Dollar)

Most of these Churches even sell prayers and anointing by calling out people to the altar base on the amount of money you have.

Only the ones happy are the Muslims themselves. The theory that these ignorant religious fanatics have so long denied. Even their Yoruba Muslim counterpart couldn't have agreed more. The Northern Muslims are very cohesive and always aware of what is going on. Regardless of their education, these bunch still believe all Nigerians should be Muslims. They so much appreciate the attacks on non-muslims. They derive pleasure in it. Their Yoruba counterpart are naive and couldn't and can't still understand that they are on the wrong path and wrong side of history. Religion is a cankerworm that eat so much out of its prey; very dangerous.

Are the Christians then any better? Not much difference, but with the elimination of revenge and faith in God slogan from the Christians point of view, they edge the other religion.

Nollywood is now crap, often showcasing ignorance as the order of the day. They've simply ran out of ideas, always focusing on kingship movies. Lead roles are now played by a prince or princess. No more reality in the movies. Just tired of same storyline with different titles. Most of these movies are always concluded in another movie with different title.

Even in the rooms, you'd see these bunch still adorned in their full royal regalia. When last have you seen a princess or prince being escorted on the street with vikings as the bodyguards.

It is called Nollywood (Nigerian Movies) and not Igbowood. Perhaps they should also act movies based on different culture and not just the igbo culture.

Just observed lately that most movies shown on Nollywood movie channel is often centred on kings and queens. Main roles always played by some prince or princess. It is just me that these bunch are running out of idea! I Called the Nollywood customer service recently and complained about this routine. They promised changing their order of movies, but same thing still continue.

Ghollywood is beginning to catch with Nollywood of late. I saw some of their films and they were fantastic. No showing of same roads to get back to another scene in their movies. Their flashbacks were excellent and story line superb. Their continuity is ok and better.

We want movies that depict reality, and not just some abstract flick. When last did you see these so-called princes and princesses roaming about the street with their regalia on and some bunch of vikings acting as their body guards?

You see me that way because I do have a degree both in Law and Criminal Justice (Criminology). I know the law and at the same time understand why certain type of people resort to crime.

I know there is no ignorance in law, but also do know that there are environmental factors that contributes to high level of crime within the minority group. If you take the Lombroso approach, then these criminal are of different specie. Take a look at their heads, they might be bigger than yours. They have elongated face and hence, their criminalities were inherited.

But if you take the Strain theory approach by Robert King Merton (following on the work of Emile Durkheim), then that would explain why we have criminals all over the world. The strain of the world are factors which contributes to criminal activities e.g unemployment, disfunctional families, environmental stigmatization, govt policy and so on.

You think world trade centre bombing was a random choice, think again! You believe terrorists are criminals, think again! The oppression experienced by these so-called terrorists paved the way to the amount of violence you now see today. Can they (terrorists, drug smugglers, armed robbers etc) then justify their acts based on the strain experienced? You be the judge!
