Miju_You need at least 1.8m dish for A 5a. L and R is for circular polarisation while H and V is for linear polarisation for C-band satellite.

Just to add on what Auchs has a said, L and R polarisation will need the dielectric plate inside the LNB while H and V works with no dielectric plate.

Those thinking of upgrading their SRT 4930 HD receivers using SRT4930_ALL_121p_20111129.zip which has just been released should not do so if they are watching Aljazeera mux. The audio bug seems not to have been rectified.

Do you want it on KU band or C band? I will advise you only about C band coz I dont know KU coverage in your area. For C band try to get 1.8m prime focus and you will get Aljazeera on Arabsat 5a and 5c or even Intelsat 7/10 among other satellites hosting aljazeera. Happy hunting.

@pidzo,this are the channels at w3c(rdv,rts,2stv,rtg1,afm tv,canal2,tvm malagasy,mboa tv,ortb,golfe tv,crtv,france 24 and equinoxe tv) all are mpeg 4 expect tvm malagasy and it can be track with 60cm in naija thanks.

You've faced the setback I faced about three days ago. I nailed this satellite and only got Madagascar using an mpeg 4 receiver I will try again shortly.

Another thing I don't get with DSTV is the giveaways and prizes that they give to South Africans, I dont remember them doing ANY of such in Nigeria. The best they have done here is give you an extra month if you pay for a full year. Yet in South Africa,every month they have competitions, they give out vacations, furnish homes for their subscribers, give out tickets to huge concerts etc. Its total balderdash!

In South Africa even on Compact Bouquet you get SS3 with all world's best soccer. Where else can u get that? The rest of Africa is treated as second class customer. DSTV is meant for South Africans (mind you, not Southern Africans!)

I totally agree with what George D has observed. With a monopoly its take-it-or-leave-it. Monochoice is a total rip on poor Africans. Their prices are more suited to rich Europeans and not poor Africans.

@pidzo, revert your STB to SRT4930_all_117p_20111004. All the latest software upgrades up to 119p have an audio problem with the aljazeera mux audio.

My Aljazeera mux on both Arabsat 5a and 5c has no audio on Strong Srt 4930. Are you people experiencing the same?

Were you getting Optima on 2 frequencies like the rest were? It's that Optima has remained on 4120 and not the 4117 frequency. The 4117 is now being used by 1music. Optima seems to be on one frequency now, 4120 unless if they have reverted at the time of posting. 

Without making you feel offended I think the best way is to visit one of their numerous service centres near you or you can visit http://www.dstv.com/

@ALL EXPERTS    is it possible to use 90cm for c band? if not,  what's the least dish size to use for c band tracing cos i just a fuji universal hd twin lnb and a c band lnb.

I read somewhere that it's possible to get C band on a 90cm dish (of course using a C band lnb). The only drawback is the small size of the dish as a result you only get those tps with a very strong signal. The best is to use the usual prime focus dish.

It's surprising how these gadgets work. My 4120 frequency for Optima is ok as was 4117. Now that the 4117 is for 1music it is refusing to come up

Do your research before buying any receiver. You may end up spending more money on a wrong purchase as it will not serve you well. Gurus here may advise on your intended purchase. Sometimes cheaper is not always better, not all that glitters is gold. technology is advancing dont buy gadgets from the Noah's ark.

Those that can manage, you can combine Apstar 2R and Thaicom 5 to enjoy Liverpool TV, EuroSports, T Sports, Russia Today (News), Grand Prix Channel, GMM (Sports), World Movie, Dubai Sports, among hundreds of FREE channels.
Check with Lyngsat for satellite position and coverage. Enjoy FTA guys.

Much of this CONTROVERSY. Can this honourable house move forward? We can (minus I Hacked) still make more discoveries. He made it without us giving him any clue now we know there is that possibility. Bring back the google search facility to make things easier. without it people will find it difficult to go back 10 or so pages hunting for something.

I dont understand why we are all at I Hacked's neck. He made a discovery which we should have ably waited for his proper time for him to tell us. Its not new that people say something interesting and keep us waiting. You never know he may have found out that it's a money making machine (my observation) and may be he is patenting it!

Frankly speaking that decoder is the worst product by Multichoice which I feel was aimed at reaping from unsuspecting buyers. Their DSD1110 was my best but didnt last long before they introduced this useless toy. As a technician I have plenty of these requiring repairs, some only as old as 2 weeks. Shame on you Dstv. Why force people buy mediocre products when others were buying better FTA receivers and duly paying for your services? That's why I cry for serious competition.
