triplo3: Awww so cute. How altruistic of these migrants from different countries coming to save the NHS out of the goodness of their hearts! No pay or compensation or security for their children’s future in a working system which has led to the rise of Kemi Badenoch and co. I used GPs as an example, but the impact in my view is not limited to Healthcare alone (although there’s no denying 1.5m net migration in two years would affect services). Also Housing is impacted (see what’s also happening in Canada). Schooling and other general services. What’s the plan for everyone? Or is the goal just to “save” the NHS with the migrant workers and pay no heed to the unintended consequences.
I know first hand the difference between public services 2009/10/11/12 and what we are going through now. I never heard anyone waiting 2yrs plus for elective surgery etc. When are you planning to leave the U.K to help decongest some of these over crowded facilities? |

People are different and have areas they can thrive in and it's important your friend identify areas he can thrive with some efforts.
I have met someone who did apprenticeship in Instrumentation and Control (I&C) he earns an astronomical amount, and currently works as an independent making roughly £20k per week for off-shore and £5-7k per week onshore. He doesn't have any higher education qualification and says that there is a huge shortage of talents in their field making them high demand. His client includes both chemical plant, oil & gas sector and really any big production firm that requires instrumentation.
His apprenticeship to him 3years to complete and he is just 27years old Someone said he is looking for a care job or an immediate job to make ends meet and u brought up write up on skills and how irrelevant his education his. I don't understand .... |

Zahra29: Agreed. It's deliberate policy which the govt has chosen not to rescind, for those who think that the govt is completely evil towards migrants.
I was just pointing out for all the talk about iHS, the majority of immigrants and their dependants on a work visa don't actually pay it. I under stand. The govt was not forced at gun point to exempt these people, they know the reason they made it that way not for for us turn around to demonise those on the route by our words. We cant start to talk down on people because govt decided to make it easier for them. The govt did not ask them to pay and they refused. Not saying some people give birth and they dont pay that is like calling them a "thief" which can be viewed as being insensitive particularly when it coming from a fellow migrant. We have diverse opinions about policies but we can be mindful of our choice of words. Everybody's path to life is different. |

profemebee: then tell that to those who started the conversation of comparing to other english speaking western nations
I only reacted to someone saying UK isn't immigration-friendly
Also, you can't compare the average income of USA with the UK...
The cost of living is higher in the States than UK, and people are one sickness away from being financially bankrupt.. because of the healthcare ish we all know
The same way you say people are hooked on HCA jobs is the same way in America, we've seen people who have lived and paid tax in the States for a while have to either find a job in 60days or leave the country when they lose their jobs..
It happened earlier this year and end of last year when Meta, Twitter, Amazon, etc laid off their staff and immigrant workers with H-1B (skilled worker) had 60 days to find another or leave.
They openly sourced for new jobs on twitter and linkedin because they know 60days clock was ticking
Every country has its' own unique policies and systems in place for immigrants.. The struggle is real .. lets keep our heads high and be hopeful Not sure abt 60days Bro. Someone wrote something about it here. There was a way U.S went about it. Agreed that u.s has higher cost of living but 200k dollars no matter the cost of living that is good money o. But again we will make out something by the Grace of God. |

profemebee: please stay within the context.. someone mentioned english speaking western countries and another said UK isn't immigrant-friendly..
that's what i was replying to..
The perfect way to use data in this context is to compare the % of immigrants to the total population because some countries are larger in land mass and population than others..
Bringing "according to hear say" to this is funny.... we are talking national stats and numbers.. not hear say.. My emphasis was on many Nigerians are hooked on HCA jobs. This is what most dependants do and this has been received to be "low quality" by some people in govt. However, no one talks about how difficult it is to get into the formal sectors. Someone i know who finished last year in the U.S already has a job of 200k. His mates in the U.k are counting time in one care home. Before getting that job his first job was in Amazon which he got while still in school, the same thing happeend to the sister of a friend same U.S. My classmate attended Oxford and already had his CFA, baba stayed for a while before getting a job. May be a year or also. If it was in the U.S that would have been different. I am not saying UK shouldnt put their citizens first but making a direct comparison with the U.s is some what different. We have been told here that it is easier to get UK visa than the U.S visa but that doesn't translate to being migrant friendly. I am not saying they are hostile though. |

profemebee: i sincerely don't know any other meaning to what you said
All i'm showing you is data shows they're not as you put it (not being immigration-friendly) and i compared to another English speaking western country which has way more landmass than all countries in the world (Except Russia) because Goke specifically mentioned " English speaking western" country U.S is more migrant friendly according to hear say. You many not have papers and still live fine but in the U.k u go hear am I won't be able to do anything. According people like daddy freeze and others . Using percentage may be confusing. If you are a quantitative person, you cant just use percentage straight up. In business when we want to make a number look good we use percentage. But even if we use percentage how many of those percentage are not hooked in health assistant related job?,. We cant compare that to the u.s. in u.s, like someone said we have Nigerians doing great things and that is because policies enable them. |

Zahra29: Visitor visas with what duration? Also, the UK gives 60 days to find another job, they don't ask people to leave immediately.
How come the US requires them to find a sponsor, which then limits the pool of potential employers? Why not allow them to apply to any company, no restrictions? U.S visitor visa is two years at least but 5yrs for Nigerians and some other countries |

See, people have been doing care even before they came up with the care visa. Infact it was much easier then to get into care than it is today. Now most NHS now ask for nvq 2. Zahra29: No one was forced into care. Many people e.g. with families chose the care route to avoid the cost of IHS. Many chose to prioritise a quicker /surer route to settlement over following their chosen career. Many chose care over PSW for the above reasons. All valid choices, but they were not forced. The system actually forces you into care. Once a change is made, it takes time for people to know about the change. Till date people still have to explain to potential employers what PSW is and this is how many years after commencement.... In previous years, when people get jobs with PSW, you will agree that the population was not like this. People did not apply the wisdom of exploiting the route at the time. Now, we have much more people competing for these PSW jobs. This is aside from the fact that people from "diverse background" are sometimes taken as an item to mean people running away from war, whose house was burnt, facing serious poverty and a fundamentally faulty education system., which makes it more challenging getting some of these jobs. A man with a family is just forced to take that and have rest of mind. |

Tenibegilojuo: Hello guys, please I urgently need your advice on this:
I am a cybersecurity specialist, currently working in a cybersecurity company here in the uk for about 8 months now. I just landed an offer with an NHS trust for a cybersecurity role band 7. I was surprised not to see anything regarding sponsorship on my offer letter. I tried reaching out to the HR guy in charge of my recruitment to seek confirmation regarding the sponsorship but he won’t respond to my emails. However, I sought a few guys’ opinions and I was told NHS always gives sponsorship for tech roles and that it’s almost cast in stone.
My current employer is actually willing to sponsor me towards my visa expiry which is in 6 months, but it’s just that I prefer the NHS role as it’s more senior and strategic.
I need to tender my resignation in 24 hrs to fulfill my 1 month notice period. I don’t know if I should maintain the assumption that the NHS trust will sponsor me or I should just stay put where I am sure of CoS. Please dont be a hurry to resign to fufil one month notice. Not all nhs trust sponsors. Let them start the process of giving you COS first before resigning. |

dupyshoo: Psw is no waste of time. I know of more than 20 friends that got a job in their fields during PSW. While some people will get job before finishing, some will get after a year, some after 2 years. The final outcome will be to become a citizen. It is not how far but how well.
You did not address the statement that some students are not chanelling their energy to applying for jobs in their field. How will they get sponsored when they did not apply.
If we want to be a force to be reckon with in this country, as Nigerians, we need to start targeting the top collectively and stop settling for less. Dupsy things have changed now. When was this if you dont mind me asking. |

Zahra29: Good advice but one that would be more effective if it was given at source - advising student applicants to keep and use their POF for what it's intended for. If they had the maintenance funds and fees they presented in their visa applications, then they might not need to work so hard - just the 20 hours stipulated in the immigration rules - and would hopefully avoid the extreme stress that is bound to arise from working to pay off fees and other debt while studying. Justwise and others have preached this for ages but are often ignored. it is not just to pay off fees. People at home are putting them under pressure. and the bad thing is that people who put them under this pressure do not hustle this way. I entered an african shop last week in the evening around 4/5pm and saw a man on queue standing and struggling with sleep. When our eyes met he could see the look on my face. People at home know they have fees to pay but start placing huge demands on them while still schooling. |

bigtt76: As far as you mention previous work experiences for the last 3 years, you would required to submit a work related reference (UK or Naija depending on what you listed). Your chances are higher if you list a UK work experience shaa. Yes Academic references (PT or DS) are suitable but then you would need to explain employment gaps.
What a lot of people don't realise is that those part time jobs in the UK can serve as work experiences and references gotten from them. Hmm, the truth there is bias when it comes to recruitment. He was probably employed because because of the name of that firm and not because of anything. If u decide to put HCAor support worker in your cv, how does that correlate to the work in a bank? What people do is use Nigerian reference like that and still use it to cover employment gap. My classmate she uses her Nigerian firm till date and that is because she still works there but remotely. Using HCA may still be viewed as a gap as it is not in your field for some people. You can list it when doing documentation with the firm cos places like civil service will draw data from hmrc and you have to reveal everything. When putting reference state what you worked there as cos they will ask in which capacity and If it is a bootcamp state it there it is still up experience.my opinion though. Na God de help. Try civil service but even the civil service in recent times, there interview is somehow. They do blind recruitment but during interview they ask you if you are currently working for the civil service? To me that question alone can dictate the score you come out it. |
