Nairaland GeneralRe: Congrats Afam4eva! by PointB: 6:18pm On Jan 01, 2013
Nice one Seun.

Afam is passionate without unnecessarily inflaming passion, he is tenacious, and a well balance individual.

These qualities will serve him well in this very difficult and thankless task of moderating Politics Section of Nairaland. I believe he will work well with other MODs to stem the tide of hateful tribalists in this section.

Very deserving.

Congrats Afam.

The party thinks that it is ridiculous to ask leaders within the age bracket of between 70 and 80 years to face election.
Fair enough, let them find an internal arrangement or face the poll. The latter is even more desirable.

I think Alex Ekueme or Ken Nnamani have what it takes to make good bot chairman in any case. Were I to have a vote, I would be hard pressed choosing between these two men of exemplary conducts.

PoliticsRe: Why Dokubo-asari Is Fighting Jonathan —group by PointB: 1:03pm On Dec 30, 2012
The chicken is coming home to roost. Whoever think Asari, a criminal militant, is all for altruism is badly mistaken. Often times, personal issues are moulded and dissipated as national interest.

Let have a little run down.

When Obj fell out with Yar Adua, we saw his vindictiveness at play. Similar pettiness is being played out since he unceremoniously left the BOT chairmanship of PDP. Bakare and El Rufia are two other examples of such fellows. El Rufia self inflicted ignominy is well documented, while Bakare is a bundle of regrets and pains. Regrets that he disobeyed revelation by joining force with the tall one (buhari) who is not a messiah, and pains of loss inflicted in the same election. Again this clown goes around venting this frustration against the FG in the name of fighting for the masses, as an easy way to deal with his personal failure.

Now, we are having an insight into the reason for the frustration of Asari Dokubo. Personally, he expects more from his kinsman (GEJ), but as usually, not every fantasy can be met by the presidency, hence the tirade.

Well, soon those who fail exams, or have marital or conjugal problems, etc will take to the air and media to criticize FG in the name of the masses. indeed this is big and still growing industry.

Let's not get me wrong, there are many things the FG could have done differently and better, but my point is let's those with personal issues deal with their problems, rather than pretend that they are fighting for the common man. Since when did Asari, Obj, El Rufia and Bakare started fighting for common man? Arrant nonsense!

wesley80: So what's your point considering the title of your thread?
Revolution ke? From these cowardly smugs?

What exactly do you expect from these clueless children of anger who know not what they want.

The topic and their comments shows clearly that it's all about power grab for the sake of it.

Listen to them: 'form a mega party, wrest power?'

That is what it's all about for the children of anger, politic for the sake of politics; politics as mean and end. Nothing more nothing less, and you wonder why the country is in such parlous state, when all people care about in the country is to scheme how to grab power, and start their criminal empire ala AC.N/Tinubu in SW.

We shall see how all these pan out. Thank God Nigerians are wiser now.

PoliticsRe: Don't Insult Jonathan On Facebook - N'Delta Group Appeals by PointB: 10:11am On Dec 30, 2012
I actually think it's the acme of foolishness to go on facebook with your picture and all that personal information to rain insult and abuses on the president.

Does it occur to you that security agents might be keeping a dossier of such people as potential dissidents or something more sinister?

How do you think Intelligence Agencies world wide build a personality profile of individuals?

Perhaps it might be useless to the present administration, but you can't be too sure how those information may be deployed and used in 10 or 20 years time.

Essentially, those who thread the path of open ignominy should not throw caution into the wind. Calibrate your 'attack!'
PoliticsRe: Jonathan: Our Greatest Challenge Is Our Attitutude Not Corruption. by PointB:
Keen observers will see clearly why I generally refer to the AC.N goons here as hypocrites! Same clowns who praised Fashola/AC.N to high heaven when he ignorantly stated that Nigeria can make progress even with worst constitution provided their is change of attitude of the people, are same one cursing GEJ for now toeing similar line as panacea for corruption. This hypocrisy is very unhealthy for both the purveyors (AC.N goons) and the gullible that buy into it. Attacking GEJ for same 'offense' committed by Fashola is indeed the height of hypocrisy.

@topic,
While there is a lot of benefit in positive attitudinal change in the people, I think it is simplistic to the point of naivety to expect attitudinal change without specific policy instrument (intervention) targeted at this. This applies to both Fashola and GEJ who have recently advocated for attitudinal changes albeit naively.
PoliticsRe: Fuel Subsidy: Will You Join The Protest In 2013? by PointB: 7:49pm On Dec 29, 2012
Sincere 9gerian: Mobilization for protest is now a money making venture. I support the removal of subsidy but I think the govt should do it in stages-over 2yrs. The removal of the remaining subsidy has been made easy by SUCCESSFUL removal of a MASSIVE 40% (N65 to N97) in January 2012. The remaining 60% can be removed over a 2yr period- increase to N120 in 2013 (most of us already buy fuel at N120 now) and then to N145 in 2014. At N145 per litre, and if oil price remain at present cost, the WHOLE subsidy would have been removed. Then the oil industry will BLOSSOM
I like the fuel subsidy removed totally in one fell swoop not protracted and noxious installment .

However, I think government should grant fuel import license to more qualified marketers while enforcing standard of imported fuel, and preventing monopoly cartels. I am of the opinion that liberalizing the import regime will actually force price down, and encourage local sourcing (and refining) of the product. I think arbitrary price fixing should not be the target of subsidy removal, rather a price sealing can be put in place to prevent profiteering.

The most courageous Babatunde Bakare has ever done was calling Bola Tinubu his real names - a bastard and identity thief!

As for ranting against the government for his electoral lost, I see not how that benefit the common man. And lately, the hate inciting child of anger has been cowed into abrupt silence as rightly noted by Jmaine. Congrats to him nonetheless. I hope this serves as a huge compensation for him!
PoliticsRe: Aturu Slams Fashola On Lagos Fire Comment by PointB: 7:42pm On Dec 28, 2012
“It is highly hypocritical to posture as a democrat and be so patently hostile to voices of dissent as the Governor has demonstrated. The Governor should point out those who asked him not to implement laws banning firecrackers. If the State has failed to implement any existing law on firecrackers, the Governor should accept responsibility for that failure rather than shifting the blame on social critics.”

“The touchstone for measuring democracy is not opposition to the Federal Government but a holistic and consistent defence of the truth at all times no matter who may feel aggrieved. The Governor should be reminded plainly that he cannot cow members of the civil society or social critics by the kind of unnecessary comment he made at the scene of the tragic incident."

NEWSFLASH:

Both Obj and Anenih are birds of a feather. They are same of same, period! Asari should hustle for himself not for Obj.

PoliticsRe: Presidency Defends Anenihs Appointment by PointB: 12:52pm On Dec 28, 2012
“What happened that year was that the Federal Government budgetted N300 billion for roads. But the money was never released to the Ministry of Works. There are a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation, and government, before now, has failed to engage the public, to explain the concrete issues. Many things are perceived. Like this one, they are taken as true, and over the years, they take root in the hearts of some people, and so people believe the man is a thief.”
Is Okupe lying here or not? This certainly should be verifiable. Thankfully, the FOI laws can help clear this.

Jonathan reduced insurgency by 70% in 2012

Okupe said the Jonathan administration is succeeding in containing the Boko Haram insurgency, both in terms of number of attacks and frequency, and buttressed this with statistics between January and November, this year.

According to him, citing newspaper reports and security agencies as sources, eight attacks were recorded in January, nine in February, seven in March, eight in April, five in May, seven in June, six in July, five in August, four in September, seven in October, four in November.

He also dismissed the argument in certain quarters that inadequate intelligence was responsible for the attacks by the Boko Haram sect, saying the capacity of the nation’s security agencies in this regard, and the equipment that have been acquired for this astonish even foreign powers considered to be leaders in this area.

Said he: “Due to the increased capacity of security agencies in the area of intelligence gathering, I can report that over 70 per cent of planned insurgent attacks were foiled before actualisation. These are largely unreported because they did not happen and this is a good thing.

“The intelligence arm of our security agencies has deployed massive modern technology to preempt and destabilise these criminal elements who intended causing harm.”
Unless some terrible happens in the remaining few days, I think the frequency and ferocity of Boko Haram attack reduced in 2012, compared to 2011. I think the security agencies should take some credit for this. I hope the do better in the coming year.

As for Okupe, the guy is just doing his job. Speaking for government is a difficult task, Dora was there!

PoliticsRe: PRESIDENCY 2015: How Buhari, Govs Plan To Stop Jonathan! by PointB: 9:17am On Dec 28, 2012
PapaBrowne: When your goal from the outset is simply to upstage PDP, you're already on a wrong thing.

How about a goal that is centered on correcting the failure that Nigeria is and returning us to a glorious state. That would involve more than just discussing who would be fielded to run against Jonathan and what not. It would involve discussions on who would be in the Senate & house. How the wrongs can be corrected. How infrastructure can be developed. How jobs can be created. How security can be provided et al.

Building a party on the basis of upstaging PDP is like going to school so that you can wear uniform.

We must come to the realization that PDP, despite an obvious dismal performance is a very popular party amongst the masses and that's why they keep winning elections. Go to the villages, motor parks and markets across the country and you will see why PDP is popular.

If the new party must tick, then it must focus on building structures for itself and not lamenting on the pages of newspapers about PDP this, PDP that. After all 90% of opposition members were all once PDP . Check El Rufai,(CPC) Okorocha,(APGA) Ribadu,(ACN) Mimiko(Labour) et all. We the masses see all the parties as the same.
Well said.

In fact 10000000 likes!
PoliticsRe: We Can Succeed With The Worst Constitution - Fashola by PointB(op): 8:30pm On Dec 27, 2012
A-ZeD:
You really have a very low iq. For all those blaming the leaders, the question you should ask yourself is where they born leaders? Was Fashola or any other governor given birth to as a governor?
Change starts with the people. You really don't need a constitution to tell you not to drive on a one way lane. You don't need a constitution to tell you not to throw dirty on the street.
Its not our constitution that makes people like Bode George, Tinubu e.t.c feel like elders, its our value system and until we change that, no constitution will help us.
One of the threads i started on NL was https://www.nairaland.com/944205/what-person-doing-done-better. Unless we the people start taking responsibility for our actions, we are on a very long thing
Is it that your brain is pea-sized or your are just a plain imbe-cilic hypocrite?

If new laws are not needed to make people change, why did Fashola roll out new sets of Traffic laws in Lagos state? Shouldn't he just assemble Okada riders and commercial drivers and preach to them the good news of attitudinal changes? Guess what Fashola couldn't do that, because he is as hypocritical as they come!

Perhaps too Fashola should preach change of attitude to criminals and other malevolent characters in the society and watch them heed his sermon and transform into innocent kids.

He speaks from the two sides of his mouth. Or is is it that Fashola probably fear a new constitution will demand more accountability of him, and perhaps less power. I simply want to know why he objects to new constitution that probably will help to restructure the country for progress. Again, something is clearly missing here.

Fashola wants State Police, I hope a change of people attitude will grant him the State Police he so much covet!

CultureRe: Igbo Ethnic Group And Nation: The Confusion Between The Two by PointB: 8:01pm On Dec 27, 2012
And about denying one's ethnic affiliation, I am sure how this would sound, but I would be interested to hear for instance how an Ameachi would convince a machete weilding Ahmed in Boko territory, that he is not Igbo, he is Ikwerre!

And of course do this in split seconds, minutes at most!
CultureRe: Igbo Ethnic Group And Nation: The Confusion Between The Two by PointB: 7:54pm On Dec 27, 2012
I believe similar cultural practices, names and language makes one part of an ethnic group, while ideologies may serve as a delimiter when the issue of nationhood is broached. Put another way Ika, Ikwerre, etc may culturally and linguistically be of Igbo ethnic group, but ideologically different.
