PoliticsRe: Igbo And Yoruba Unity - How Possible? by PointB: 10:36am On Oct 30, 2012
@Op,

Oil and water to mix. We culturally different from the Yorubas, besides the Yorubas are too clannish, and have shown several times that they cannot be trusted. Without trust, there can't be unity. Even the Hausa trust the Yoruba's man as same way, a man will trust a green snake in a green grass. The fact that we share the same country and space with them is the unfortunate consequence of the civil war loss.

PoliticsRe: The Biafran Genocide: Igbo Youths Drag Gowon To ICC by PointB:
ICC will not ask who was responsible for starting the war (even as the fault lies majorly on the illegal government of Gowon) the question they will be asking is: "Who murdered over 2 million Igbos?" Awolowo's bones will be sweating profusely in his grave, and Gowon might consider the rat poison option as did the latter!
PoliticsRe: Biafran war; the first successful Jihad in modern times - By Hugh Fitzgerald by PointB: 9:47am On Oct 30, 2012
Well, the story has not ended. We are now in the second phase.

Biafran was crushed, but our spirit, and religious inclination survived, and indeed thrived. They could not export Christianity to the far corners of Southern Nigeria with bombs and mortars. However, even without trying, Christianity is thriving in the furthermost part of the lands of the Jihadists, an offshoot of economic and intellectual enterprise.

Today, they descend on themselves to rid Christianity from continuing to take foothold in the Sahel. Alas, when the bombs and strives ceases, as it will, Christianity will as usual flourish, and will the purveyors. Because, they will need the purveyors to rebuild, then we will laugh loud!

No one is victimising Ify, and she is more than capable of handling herself. The important thing now is to make peace and not apportion blames. Anyone not lending his or her voice in calming frayed nerves will do well to maintain a golden silence. That OnlyTruth be allowed to serve out his term in peace is a big deal to ask for?

PoliticsRe: Achebe Wrote Out Of Ignorance - Gowon by PointB: 9:01am On Oct 28, 2012
Other than fear of consequence, I wonder why old man Gowon would still be lying about when Awolowo already confessed the deed before his death.

By the way, who are those being led by a mass murderer in prayer. I hope they are offering such prayers to the satan? The Bible is very clear on this 'The prayers of a sinner are abomination unto God.' Gowon should first make peace with over 2 million dead Biafrians before seeking God's favour.

By the way, over 50 million Igbo will not say amen to his selfish and vain prayers! Peace will elude Gowon and all those who murdered the hapless Igbos in their number. Their restless spirit will haunt Nigeria to death!

EZE NDI IGBO ELECTION - A FOOTNOTE
Great, insightful and inspiring speeches by the incomings and the outgoing Ezes, I must say.
The election is over; it's time for real work to begin. Drawing from my experience in the outgoing cabinet of Eze Onlytruth, I would say, it's not an easy task leading an egalitarian and republican group like Ndi Igbo.

It is therefore incumbent upon us to make it easy for the leaders to do their job, bearing in the mind their unique strength and capabilities.
I offer my services, and time as much as I can afford to the incoming Eze, just I did to the outgoing one. I believe the institution of Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland, and the premier Eze Nwayi has gained a lot of traction, and support from Ndi Igbo and well wishers, judging from the interest shown by them in this election. To this end, I am of the opinion that the institution will eventually become self sustaining, as it further evolves.
On this basis, if it is the wish of the cabinet that I 'resign' from my self appointed role as the organiser of the Eze Ndi Igbo election, all you need do is ask. I believe this election has thrown capable and ready hands, who will be ready to take up the mantle of organising future elections. I believe this election generated enough interest and passion from them. We only need to trust them with responsibility.
Permit me then to formally extol the virtues and dedication of the electoral team - Afam4eva, Ujchief, 9ja_I_hail who gave their time willingly and without reservation despite the impromptu call to service. This willingness to answer call of duty, is rare, and must be applauded. I must say, without their timely support, comments, and decisiveness in tackling matters brought to their attention, this election would have been ill-fated. I personally can never thank them enough.

Perhaps, I should clear the air once again on the issue of disqualification of Okija_juju. As stated severally, one of the aims of Eze Ndi Igbo was to identify and reward those Umu Igbo who have stood for unity and harmony among Igbos, in their daily interraction with Nairalanders. Those who emphasise on things the unite us, not those who constantly remind us of things that divide us - as there are indeed some of them.

It was on the basis of encouraging the uniting factors that the Nomination Rules were drawn. As at time of drafting the rules, the intention was to use the Nairaland e-Polling system for it's ease of use. We are very much aware of the scourge of multiple IDs in nomination and voting and the potential of people from the other side of the fence to 'impose' a candidate on us via similar methodology. We had to think up countermeasures. Without being specific, the rules would have prevented many 'Igbos' from testing our resolved not to reward them for dwelling on our 'weakness', and things that disunite us. Anyone can claim Igbo, create multiple dormant 'Igbo' IDs, and lay ambush for us, during election. Part of the job of the council is to prevent such infiltration; to out-think them is our collective responsibility. Our job is never done!

A true Nwa Afo Igbo is identified by his history interaction, and utterances in things that concern Igbos. A fruit does not fall far from the tree. Therefore to qualify to stand for an Ndi Igbo election, you must meet certain criteria - being 'Igbo' is NOT, and should NEVER be enough.
Okija_juju, sad to note, knew like some other, he had not lived up to expectation in his interraction as Igbo, but he would nonetheless test our resolve, by whipping up emotion. Needless to say, here we are - marching forward. Fortunately he has agreed to march along with us, as one big happy family. But I must not fail to note that his divisive campaign almost left a sad taste on the election. True Igbo who aspired leadership position among their brethre can always pass their message without sending divisive signals, no matter the provocation. He must understand that a leader must be thoughtful and restrained.

It is sad that many of us unwittingly bought into the tag of 'cabal', and 'Igbo elite' used generously by 'rented' crowded to cause confusion in our midsts, and create hatred for those whose aim is simply to serve. Some also believe, despite, all evidence to the contrary that the electoral team had pre-selected candidates for the election, to the point that of naively suggesting that outsiders should conduct our elections, as they will be 'impartial'. The fact that some of these comment were made by Igbos is very unfortunate. Personally, it is not a problem to me. I only speak for those who may find themselves in similar situation without the requisite cyber experience and thick skin to manage such.

Going forward, we must necessarily find time for Igbo affairs online. We must show more interest. The Cyberworld is akin to the Spiritual world. We are early in the field - cyber world leadership, and followership - we must capitalize on this potential goldmine, to change things in the physical world. Igbos are dynamic, and very quick in embracing changes - we must get to work.

Once again, congratulations to our new leaders. Perhaps, I should evoke your passion with the titles of the memoirs of two of our literary icons who converged on many critical occasions Professors Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka. Our leaders elect, Umu Igbo, we must necessarily remember that "there was a country", therefore "you must set forth at dawn."

orufe: I will appeal before the handover date. The electoral team did very well, despite that, you guys as Igbos have your own favourite candidates. But non Igbos will not allow any sort of favouritism creep in. I do not want it to be left entirely in the hands of none Igbos.
Believe me, there will not be complaints but transparency if Igbo and non Igbo combine to give us a credible election.
Having said that, you guys did well, but you have to listen to suggestions.
As a matter of fact, the electoral team had no favoured candidate(s). The electoral team were four members, and were not allowed to nominate. To say there are favourite candidate(s), and by extension inferring rigging, is to either insult the intelligence of people who nominated the contestants or blame the electoral team for most of the nominee not accepting their candidacy nor selling themselves or ideas despite our appeals to them. At a point I even proposed self nomination. Insinuating favouritism is very unfair and that's putting it mildly.

As for suggesting non-Igbos conduct election for us, I think the idea is very defeatist, and borne out of lack of self appreciation. Stop suggesting it, please!

Congratulation Eze Odumchi and Eze Nwayi - Ogugua.

I am wondering if someone (perhaps Okija_juju or Nri_Priest) can take up the Eze and Eze Nwayi e-coronation at a later date in the culture section to complete the process.

I guess someone had asked for guidelines, I only have vague idea how this could be done. But it should be interesting and culturally unifying, I believe.

Okija_juju, Nri_Priest, others, what do we think?

By the way thank you all for the positive comments, and constructive criticisms. No one is perfect, and we cannot also please the whole world.
