Politics › Re: Fashola Can Use Lagos Successes To Run For President- Bloomberg by porka: 2:24pm On Dec 20, 2012
dederocs: THE QUESTION IS-NAME ANY GOVERNOR IN NIGERIA THAT HAS MADE MORE IMPACT ON THE STATE THEY LEAD THAN FASHOLA?...I PITY YOU ALL,BETTER START HARRASSING YOUR INEFFECTIVE GOVERNORS,COS WHEN THE BUBBLE BURSTS ALL MAN WILL RETURN TO HIS LAND.JUST AN ADVICE,STOP LOOKING AT ANOTHER MAN'S STATE.
Hello sir.

Any average person will "succeed" as a Lagos governor (or Mayor - Fashola recently participated in African Mayor conference held in Lagos).

80% of infrastructure in Lagos was already in place, built by the Federal Government of Nigeria (Lagos was the former capital of Nigeria).

Therefore, you can be perceived a successful mayor if you sweep the roads, whereas you may not be a success even if you build complete universities.

You may be termed a performer when you arrest "traffic offenders" but deemed to be a non-performer when you build complete modern airports with meager resources.

One can be a super governor in Nigeria's Lagos by tolling highways but not much of a success when one's state invests heavily in agriculture.

You can be a "successful governor" with many PPP deals (including an abandoned Ship Hotel)in Lagos but not much of a success when you build a complete world class 5 star hotel like Le Meridien in Uyo.

You can pick an unnecessary fight with medical doctors and still be hailed by Bloomberg but not praised when you provide hundreds of state-of-the-art hospitals in the creeks.

To your question sir,

1) Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State

2) Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State

3) Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State (in less than 2 years)

4) Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State

5) Bukola Saraki formerly of Kwara State

6) Ayodele Fayose formerly of Ekiti State

7) Adamu Muazu formerly of Bauchi State

cool Danjuma Goje formerly of Gombe State

9) Donald Duke formerly of Cross River State

Plus, any idea who these guys' godfathers are?
Ribadu is well respected home amd abroad. Yes, but Buhari commands much more respect. If you don't know that, then you don't know anything. You're an empty head.

You said Ribadu will best Buhari in any election. This statement is another demonstration that you are an empty head.

But then, its possible you're not an empty head afterall. You are just trying to mislead people by pointing them towards candidates that may appear good, but which you know are not politically strong enough to win.

Then you say Buhari is corrupt? Are you totally daft? If there is anything that it certain about Buhari, it's the fact that he is not corrupt and he hates corruption and injustice with a total hatred and passion.
Buhari does not hate corruption and injustice, he dwells in them.

1) Buhari's ADC, Mustapha Jokolo, allegedly smuggled 53 suitcases stuffed with currencies belonging to his Emir father when Buhari's government closed all Nigeria's borders in 1983. It was allegedly intercepted by Alh Abubakar Atiku. There were no investigations, everything was covered up. This is gross corruption.

2) Buhari enacted a decree against drug trafficking, applied that decree retroactively to MURDER two young Nigerians who were caught with hard drugs before the decree was enacted. This is injustice.

3) Buhari worked for Sani Abacha as the Chairman of Petroleum Trust Fund, there were alleged lopsidedness in projects execution. Award of contracts were mainly to his cronies as alleged. That is corruption and injustice.

4) Buhari was not a member of ANPP until the presidential primaries were being won by Rochas Okorocha in 2002/2003. Buhari was brought in and votes were rigged for him by the party hacks against Rochas Okorocha at the time. By this act, Buhari willingly embraced corruption and injustice.

5) Buhari has been touted as not having much in material wealth after his overthrow, yet he has been a presidential candidate of political parties for three times, where did his campaign funds come from? Answers to this question will be of benefit to his supporters and critics.

6) Buhari declared Abacha corruption free at the 10th Anniversary of the late dictator's death in Kano. It is on record that Abacha's 'loots' (monies illegally taken out of the treasury) are being returned by foreign governments.

Please tell us how much Buhari still hates corruption and injustice after all this and more.

Rather it starts by focusing on education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) from primary to university with robust and attractive vocational training for technicians to translate the ideas of the graduate engineers into useful ITEMs that can be easily maintained by Nigerians.
Otherwise we will be importing expatriates to do all the technical work for us while we languish in chronic unemployment!!!

Dear Sir,

Good news.

Now, Minister Aganga should translate these positives to jobs.

Job reports has a psychological effect on people more than GDP.

How many employment did the malls generate for instance?

What about the construction companies, the health services, telecoms etc.

Minister Aganga should itemize them sector by sector and disseminate.

When people begin to hear and see that these things are affecting some lives positively, they would be less negative.

They would be hopeful.

Economy is run on confidence.

We have somewhat succeeded in gaining the confidence of the foreigners.

Now is the time to start building confidence back home.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully.

Talk Hoha: Here we go again. This bill is certain to win public support and distract us from our problems. This topic is huge. However, to discriminate against gays is same as racial discrimination, or oppressing the left-handed or albino. We now know that gays abound in the animal world. The medical evidence is overwhelming that gays are formed as foetuses. The historical evidence is like a tsunami of facts - in all ages, in most properly explored cultures, gays were present and recognised, from the ancient Greeks to the native Americans to the Japanese to the South Pacific tribes. Exclusive heterosexuality is not nature's pattern. The Jews were against gays, probably because they were surrounded by hostile tribes and needed to swell in numbers. Hence we are told 'Go out and multiply.' The world's problem now is over-population. 'Christians' choose to forget the Holy Book also abominates mixing different fabrics together and other deeds we consider trivial now. The Bible forbids fornication which nobody bothers about. Anyone who has ever been involved in abortion or contraception has no moral right to condemn gay relationships for not producing babies. Most straight relationships are not aimed at procreation, but braced by abortion and contraception. Indeed, we wouldn't have philosophy or civilization without gays. So many great, luminous figures, whether conventionally married or not, displayed marked gay traits. From the ancient world's conquerer Alexander the Great and his Hephaestion, to the modern world's apostle of peace, Mahatma Ghandi and his Hermann Kallenbach. I'd mention the man considered the greatest genius Leonardo da Vinci and his lads. Indeed, William Shakespeare in many of his Sonnets wrote some of the greatest gay poetry in the English language. Many scholars in their ignorance try to ignore or distort this. Alan Turing invented the modern computer which makes it possible for us to communicate on this site, and he was gay. I hate the hypocrisy of our world. A man could leave a trail of psychologically broken women, leave many girls barren from abortions and even many dead from septic abortions, and be morally irreproachable. Yet two people who engage in decent same-gender love are evil. Such reasoning affronts commonsense and human decency. I know that much we consider civilized or sensible today came about not through majority decisions but because individuals challenged the majority. Women wouldn't have the vote today but for individuals rebelling. When Marie Stopes pioneered birth control doctrines she was denounced as evil. Now birth control is acceptable. Our culture once approved of murder of infants - twins. Homophobia is simply as ignorant and cruel and destructive as killing babies for being twins. As if it's their choice. I'm almost sorry for the lawmakers. Some of them I'm sure have children who are secretly gay and might be driven to depression or suicide or abandonment of parents for the decision those parents are taking today. This decision in a few decades would be seen as a disgrace in Nigeria's history. I thank Okija Juju on this site. Future generations which applaud your views.
1) One is born black or white or red or yellow. No one chooses his race.

2) Albinos did not chose to be born without skin pigments.

3) Homosexuals chose to have sex with their kinds, they are not born to.

4) We know (3) because many ex-homosexuals abound who are living normal lives after turning away from several years in their devious ways.

5) Homosexuality is a crime in Nigeria just as I N C E S T, BESTIALITY, PEDOPHILIA and PROSTITUTION are.

6) Same sex marriage is going to be a crime in Nigeria as soon as the National Assembly passes the bill and the president assents to it.

7) You are in grand delusion if you think future Nigerian generation will accept the nonsense.

cool You can carry out a study among the very young and see for yourself. We are proud of what we have seen so far.

LOL
I agree with your assertion of less time to prepare for debate as the president. I think in fairness, Romney has an advantage in preparations.

But, as the president for four years, you would simply have your records behind you to point to, that is your own ultimate preparation.

Obama didn't point to any. Over and over again Romney looked at Obama directly, faced the camera and boldly asserted that Obama's policies have failed and Obama found it hard to defend his own four year record.

I think your GEJ joke is funny though.

With one side of the mouth, Lagos officials will claim the state is a melting pot while their other side of the mouth is used to say nonsense like residents becoming citizens after 3 months. What about Law School students or University of Lagos students who drive cars but leave for holidays and leave after 1 year to their various states. What about Youth Corp Members, the several people in different sectors who have come to Lagos for one form of academic or professional cause or another?

And when the backlash start, they won't be able to control it. When other states begin to borrow their template, they'll begin to sulk and asking for federal allocation to Lagos.

The Niger Delta states are more serious than many people think. This sort of thing would only strengthen their determination, NLNG headquarters was recently relocated to Port Harcourt with the attendant significant loss in PAYE to Lagos and more will follow, at the end of the day because of the stark reality of serious revenue loss, Lagos will device another totally insane policy, maybe asking people to marry their spouse in Lagos since they are paying taxes there.

If Cross River government says for instance that all goods to be traded in its state must be cleared at Calabar ports or Rivers says it must be Onne ports or Anambra says their own must be at the newly commissioned port, what will Lagos say?

And the security argument is so hollow. It is either a joke or that person needs to visit a correction facility.

What is the statistics of crime committed using other states' registered vehicles in Lagos?

May be we need to know, otherwise it is just bogus.

By the way, the Federal Road Safety Commission cited security as one of the major reasons for introducing the new plate number. We were told that the data is centralized and crimes committed in Sokoto can be resolved through the arrest of the suspect in Enugu with the new database, so what happened to that claim? Is Lagos not trusting the FRSC or what?

Pretty soon, Lagos will tell people to convert their certificates to that of Lagos issued through assessment before they can work in Lagos.

And then the so-called human rights activists will not utter any word for this form of secession from the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The so-called Save Nigeria Group will not say a word apparently because it does not come from their political opponent.

If they succeed in this, the next one will be to ban driver's licenses obtained from other states in Lagos.

I expect lawyers to take this up in the courts.

I expect the national assembly to bear if full legislative fangs, this is not a case of Obasanjo versus Tinubu that they turned the illegal creation of local governments into, this is about Nigeria.

howeve, the benefit of tbe law according to my understanding are as follow,
1, SECURITY- One every commercial vehicle is register and store in the lagos state transport Database the issue of one chance will reduce cos vitim can easily identify the plate number and report to the nearest station and the owner of such vehicle could be identify for procecution.
2. it will reduce reckless driving among the commercial drivers- since passager can report the plate number to FRSC to check the driving ability of the driver and if fould guilty the licence could be withdraw
3. it will reduce Accidence among commercial motorist cos one u drive reckless or the driver have drink paraga/ smoke igbo such driver could be report and cution throught the new database record since it contain all the owner information
4. criminal would not be able to used the vehicle to rob passager etc.
it will go along way to sanitse the transportation industry..expecialy the danfo drivers
Brother Tayo, read what you wrote here.

Apart from politics, there's little, if any, benefit of this egregious policy.

Common! Don't they have intelligent people there?

Lagos State, since the administration of Bola Tinubu, has been on the case of Nigeria.

And yet, it is Nigeria's money that the military used to build the bridges and construct 70% of the roads, the two wings of the airports, military barracks, railways terminals, education and health facilities etc.

What is this suppose to mean, to counter Bayelsa or Osun raising their own flags or what?

Listen! This is going to be counter-productive.

Lagos plate number is the preferred number across the country.

The economics is weird. How do they want to raise revenue like this. How would you raise needed revenue when you are discouraging people from your state?

Lagos will actually lose a lot of revenue if/when other states borrow their template.

Mark it, Lagos is going the way of California, this won't happen overnight though, but it will happen. And then like California, the nation's largest economy will not be able to pay its debts or its staff.

Go to any state in the country and see for yourself, there are many Lagos plate numbers on Abeokuta road for instance.

Or is the state's finances in dire strait that they don't want people to know?

There is no doubts other states will borrow this template in some form.

Currently, Ogun State is disputing about 1.5billion in PAYE annual accrual by law, "the residency clause" which Lagos has been "illegally" collecting and this may further exacerbate the situation.

A smarter governor would find a way of attracting more people from other states to troop to Lagos to register their vehicles instead of this divisive stuffs. They are interested in staying in Lagos, they just want to carry Lagos number. A revenue conscious Lagos government would find an incentive for these vehicle owners to pay the subsequent years' Auto Reg to Lagos even right from their various states.

The protest itself was spontaneous.

There is no where in the world that subsidy would be removed the it was and there would not be demonstration.

And people were genuinely, absolutely right to demonstrate.

We are not in North Korea and nobody should tell the masses not to demonstrate as long as it's peaceful.

But the aspect of calling musicians to perform each day was highly political.

When t-shirts started appearing and people being fed daily, it was obvious that politicians had hijacked the protest.

Some politicians who lost elections to Jonathan less than a year earlier, Bakare, Odumakin etc, suddenly started another round of campaign, after election, hoping to get to office through the back door.

Joe Ajaero was on record to have said they would start making political demands if by a certain date the government refused to listen.

And money were being distributed everyday at NLC secretariat.

Now, those were political activities that went beyond the intent of the demonstration.

President Jonathan should know how to communicate his message properly.

Healthcare administration is much technical than you think, if she were there (SA) or even in the UK (reputed to be running the best healthcare system in the world, arguably) she probably would still be in queue waiting for her surgery as long as it is not an emergency.

Nevertheless, there is a health insurance scheme in Nigeria called National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), it's doubtful if it covers this type of sickness though, but it's working fairly well.

Check their site to know how it works http://www.nhis.gov.ng

That said, most organ related ailments are very expensive to manage, they require elaborate medical procedures that sap/drain finances, only the very rich can afford on their own without external help.

The CBN has said that the new 5000 note is aimed at making it easy for those who do businesses that require large movement of cash. Why do you need to make it easy for anyone to move cash in a cashless society. What happened to electronic payments and bank assisted payments for staff? I just don't get this Sanusi guy. The guy definitely doesn't know what he is talking about.
Simple!

Cashless policy says you cannot withdraw/deposit more than #500,000 in CASH.

#500,000 in #1 coin is not more than #500,000 in #5000 note.

It is the same value.

You cannot withdraw/deposit more than #500,000 in any cash denomination.

It will not help you carry more cash because they are have not increased the limit yet.

They should have left the maximum withdrawal/deposit limit at #150,000 though!

We are not small children or dullards that somebody will come and be saying "he didn't actually say so so". I'll be ashamed if OBJ himself comes out to say that. He definitely won't.
This is a great disappointment!

Do you mean to say someone emphasizing on what was seen and heard on a Channels TV is twisting and you that is conjuring up some weird insinuation here is not a child?

It is even you that should go back to that video and watch carefully.

Look, Obasanjo that we all know does not insinuate, he does not speak tongue-in-cheek, he has never been afraid to speak his mind, you would rather kill him. If he wanted to say 5000 naira bill's introduction is wrong he would have said it clearly without giving a hoot about it.

Obasanjo actually praised Sanusi from the clip shown.

He said what he is doing is good, the only caveat was that he was targeting inflation ALONE!!!

Now, this is a very let down on the intellectual capacity of Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi himself.

How can he answer Obasanjo without seeing the video for him to prepare an appropriate response?

Has he been governing the CBN based on mere rumors and newspaper reports all this while?

I think Sanusi should get the video and apologize to Baba!

Obasanjo was just re-echoing what ECONOMISTS and FINANCIAL EXPERTS all over the world have said time and again of the difficulty in balancing the trio of INFLATION, INTEREST RATES AND EXCHANGE RATES.

One aspect of me was eager to hear a robust defense from the Mallam knowing fully well that he's capable of defending his actions. I thought he would use the space and opportunity to lecture the nation as a Soludo would do and as central bank governors would normally do in similar circumstances on the reasons for his inflation targeting alone.

Unfortunately, it is this sort of primitive argument that came from the CBN governor of a while nation.

It is too childish for Sanusi to go to the level of BAD ECONOMIST, GREAT FARMER theory.

It is simple economics that when you are targeting inflation ONLY (mopping money from circulation through TB issuance, raising cash requirement of deposit money banks, dominating/determining the sales of foreign exchange etc) interest rate will be prohibitive and production suffers as a result of inability/difficulty of businesses in accessing credits from the banks, therefore unemployment will naturally increase because businesses cannot hire.

And when there is low interest rates, there would be high consumer spending due to much economic activities which in turn leads to rise in inflation. It is a difficult balance that central bank all over the world are dealing with. Now when you are focused on the former in an economy with high unemployment like Nigeria, you should have more compelling reasons and the temperament to explain to the citizens why you are doing that.

Sanusi should rather defend his inflation targeting measures than this elementary response of FARMER and CHICKEN.

We demand more from our central bank governor than this.

It was the same hyper reaction to the IMF warning a couple of years ago about the danger of using the reserve to defend the naira. Sanusi could not give a coherent defense other than some sentimental politicization of the debate back then. He should remember that he is not an ordinary man on the street who can just be reacting to silly beer parlor comments anyhow.

In 2012, central bank governors everywhere speak like economists not like politicians who like to be clapped for in the public. We need a measured, coherent, articulate, brilliant and knowledgeable comments from the CBN governor henceforth.

By the way, I am in support of the 5000 naira note introduction.

Elder, why not point out the ignorance?

Delafruita: if by "den of lion" you mean his house on bourdillon which he lives in and has owned for many years before becoming governor, then i must salute your idiocy.

if by anointing you mean aiding him to win elections, then bill clinton anointed barack obama.its not in doubt that americans want a return to the clinton years.a time when 23million jobs were created.a time when homes had real value.republicans tried to paint obama as been the opposite of clinton.its well known that obama and clinton have been at loggerheads since 2008.obama realised he needed clinton by his side.axelrod and plouffe organized a game of golf between the two,and clinton agreed to speak at the convention.that,my friend,is clinton's way of saying I ANOINT OBAMA.

how do you even think?clinton didnt make obama president.no individual makes a person the POTUS.however, clinton is aiding obama in his re-election bid.just in case you dont know, serving presidents always look to past presidents for advice and even active participation.clinton sent carter to haiti to ensure duvalier left power mainly because carter was a good friend of aristide.he sent bush snr to bosnia.bush jr brought clinton and his father together to help out in raising funds for tsunami victims.thats the american system.a POTUS always remains one irrespective of party.i havent seen jonathan call buhari for a meeting to discuss boko haram despite buhari's experience at dealing with the maitsane.i havent seen jonathan summon a meeting of the opposition to discuss how to move forward.obama appointed a republican as sec of defense.he appointed hilary clinton as secretary of state despite the animosity between them.clinton retained alan greenspan as chairman of the fed despite the fact he was appointed by reagan.obama made jon huntsman his ambassador to china despite him been republican.i havent seen jonathan do anything of the sort.rather, jonathan appoints PDP buffoons who are apparently ill-equipped to do their job.

if you want to compare america tonigeria,do it wholistically.dont just type rubbish comparing tinubu with anybody you wish.after the aurora shootings, obama cancellled his campaign for the week and went to aurora.he met with all the families of the death.when i say met with,i mean he went to their houses one after the other.within a few days, the shooter had been found.when innocent citizens died in bauchi, jonathan was on his way to brazil for a frigging earth summit.
So Buhari has experience in dealing with the Maitasane?

Please educate us.

luvinhubby: So Appeal court president does not know the transiting process from high court to appeal court & he was appeal court supremo, pathetic to say the least.
Ahhh!!! That is Salami na!

His incompetence and disdain for rules and conventions are legendary.

Fact: He claimed in a newspaper interview that he used only 9 (nine) trusted justices for his 'jobs', out of over 50 justices.

Fact: He removed elected governors by cancelling votes where they won and upholding votes of their opponents.

Fact: He once ruled that filing a case on a Sunday in Nigeria is in order.

He does not bother himself about processes.

That is the former Justice Issa Ayo Salami for you.
