Kajina: Nation, reaction, expression, incomprehension, emotions, devotions, determination.Let me assist you. Some Nigerians have what we have come to recognize as the h-factor. Others have the s-sh-factor. Yet others have r-l factor. Others still have f-p factor. You sometimes hear some people pronounce UI as U HI or ice as hice... The s-sh-factor on the other hand will creep in words like plantation as plantason You would hear some Nigerians pronounce ruler as lurer or road as load Some of our brothers will normally pronounce people as fifu or five as pipe. These are Nigerians and there's no denying that. However, these are not in the mainstream and are regularly the butt of jokes in comedy circles. It's different from Ghanaian's national anthem of nes in terms of Nurse and eh for her. And no, no other country pronounce her as eh, I haven't heard it, it's Ghanaian, period. It's really funny here. On a lighter note, one of our comedians, AY, told of his experience in Accra the other day. He was at a joint/restaurant... he ordered for a Catfish pepper-soup... the waiter took his orders... he was already salivating... until the waiter brought a Tilapia... TA - I thought you told me you have Catfish, this is not my order, this is Tilapia Waiter - Yes sir (seh), this is cut (pronounced ket) fish, they've cut (ket) it. |
Kajina: So please leave your TV and radio personalities alone to do their work. They have seen the flaws in their pronunciation, so they are switching to the Ghanaian English pronunciationNo, they are half-baked. Some of them trained in Ghana anyways. They will go (are going) through proper re-orientation and re-training. |
Kajina: In your post you mentioned how Ghanaians pronounce HER. Listen again and pay attention anytime the queen pronounced it, and tell me if she said HAA like Nigerians do. She pronounced it just like Ghanaians doYou said this? You mean you heard the Queen say eh for her? That's ridiculous. Then I can't help you. Maybe a hearing aid will do. |
Kajina: @ bolded,To clear some of your apparent confusion, listen to the Queen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_moIV4wDQsY Pay close attention to the following; concern, heart, bad, laugh, her, suffered, person and happy. It's really funny pronouncing Nurses as nesis or her as eh the way Ghanaians do. |
Ajibson98: Acn 4 life......Bleep pdp and dere membersACN will cease (has ceased) to exist. You mean APC...? |
Eko Atlantic: No Regrets Making Fashola Lagos Gov – TinubuPushing him to Vice Presidential candidacy huh? Well, we are expecting the announcement of the Presidential candidate. |
This is dead wrong! What kind of government empowers the militants? A better strategy is to empower the police. Best to license gun use for every eligible Nigerians. |
ayox2003: "This man will never stop contesting. What kind of person are we dealing with here? I know he doesn't have a swiss account and his reputation is strong but we must use the media, religion and tribalism to nail him. Let's deploys all our full resources to taint his image once again, while we appear clean, godly and attend religion gatherings. Note: Henceforth, all religious gatherings MUST be attended. We also know Boko Haram is a burning issue in the minds of Nigerians, we must use it as a tool to rope him and the north. Let's nail this man once and for all." - Chairman 40 Laptops Campaign committee.Which reputation are you talking about here? He said emphatically that Abacha was not corrupt. Do you need further proof of his BTW, he co-ran Abacha government as the PTF Chairman then. |
honeric01: A COUNTRY WITH 50% MUSLIMS, 40% CHTISTIANS ARE LAUGHING THAT SOME SET OF DIABOLICAL PEOPLE ARE AGAINST A PARTICULAR CANDIDATE?Relax Oga... That particular candidate will not be fielded by the Ogbologbo politicians around him in APC. You can mark my word... and I'm not a wizard |
chachacorner: Visit here for more: http://chachacorner.com/nigerian-music-has-been-overtaken-by-ghanaian-music-ik-osakioduwa/It's not only the music they are Ghanaianizing. You can barely differentiate a Nigerian and a Ghanaian when speaking these days. They've Ghanaianized many words we used to pronounce exactly like Queen Elizabeth II. Mercy has become messi Birthday is now pronounced bed-day Perfect is pefect now in Nigeria Heard is called hed now Earth has turned to et Earnest now turns to enest. And many more... These Ghanaianization started some years back but seems to have gained momentum in recent years. It's now in the mainstream. Our radio and television personalities are unfortunately becoming very comfortable with that funny accent. |
oluface: PovertyVery true. Over 47 million Americans are living in poverty. Many in this crowd are on food stamps. |
Does the bold not confirm the stupidity of some of you? If during Obasanjo's time cement was sold at N1900 and reforms where brought in to allow Dangote to produce cements bags in Nigeria at huge discount by the government at couple of years down the line you are still buying cement for N1650, does that not tell you the current government is a failure? Some of you really need to use your brains rightly
What's value of the discount? |
samilo88: That the effect of these claims aren't felt immediately on the price of common commodities boils down to the greediness of most sellers. A typical Nigerian trader won't be quick to adjust his or her selling price to reflect the initial price in which the goods were once sold, even when he or she buys that same commodity at a much more lesser price now. No wonder the saying that whatever goes up never comes down as mostly propagated by these traders. I think we ourselves are the one throwing wrenches into the gear wheels of our nation's progress. Until we start being sincere, we would only be seeing these figures on papers, the effect would be far from being felt. The government can keep the price as it is by systematically releasing from strategic grain reserves. They should not allow Shylock traders mess them up. |
nnafather: I'm an Economist too; just concluded my MBA, heading for Msc(Economics) after chartering in a professional body (name withheld)which is on now. This is because of the nature of my Job...You know the nature of your career. Plan it around it. If you are interested in lecturing, proceed for your Masters. It is not only lecturing that a Master's degree is good for. Multinational financial institutions (World Bank and others) mostly require higher degrees. A higher degree will also be of advantage in some federal parastatals like the CBN and others alike. @OP, broaden your horizon and make an informed decision. |
Ganjafama: Those of u congratulating GEJ are all ingnorant of the fact dat DSC aladja which is one of the largest steel mills in the country is in a sorry state, thanks to AMCON and the federal government. The workers are being owed 17 months salary. Some have died as a result of poverty and hardship. Anybody who commends GEJ for commissioning dis steel plant while DSC Aladja and its workers are rotting away is not doing the right thing.Government does a bad job at managing business, private sector does it better. Government provides enabling incentives. May be you should migrate to North Korea. DSC Aladja has been privatized. Ajaokuta's concessioning went awry. Wake up. This is 2013. |
koruji: They know where to look if they are really looking. We are seeing forged, SSS report and Aregbesola in the same sentence? Hmmmm! |
adejoro75: 95% of the diseases in Nigeria are in Northern regions. The more they kill innocent citizens in the name of religion, the more nature and fate pay them back in kind with all sorts of pestilence: VVF, guinea worm, TB,eye infections, Polio, leprosy and now, flesh-eating bacteria.fyi HIV is prevalent in the South and Middle Belt than the core North. |
http://www.ynaija.com/conversations-with-mercy-abang-el-rufais-intelligence-is-governed-by-ego-reno-omokri/ Kathleen Ndongmo, amongst other young Nigerians criticized Government’s policy on fuel subsidy, why did you single her out to rebuke? On Kathleen, it is unfortunate that she did not understand why I did what I did. During the Fuel Subsidy issue she was on Twitter mobilizing people to gather at Surulere in Lagos against the government. Several people did that. Why did I single her out? She is a Cameroonian citizen and I felt that it was wrong for her to mobilize against the government of the nation that has welcomed her as a resident and I said in quote “Kathleen, you are a Cameroonian and you are welcome in Nigeria, but please allow Nigerians to react to their government’s policy”. Please go back and confirm if I have lied in the quote I just gave you. Now do you think Cameroonians will tolerate a Nigerian resident of Cameroon mobilizing Cameroonian citizens against an economic policy put in place by the Cameroonian government? If a U.S. Permanent Resident who is not a citizen tried that in America that is enough grounds for the U.S. government to withdraw such a person’s Green Card. Now I ask you, what is rude or uncouth in what I just said? In response the young woman used some choice words on me for which I did not respond. The next day I got a call from a respected Nigerian journalist saying that Kathleen had called her saying that she received an anonymous call from the SSS and some people were saying that they would hold me responsible if anything happened to her. I am a strong believer in God. I prayed about that incident. I am reasonably certain that such an incident never occurred but let me give her the benefit of the doubt. However, I am completely certain that I never instigated anything like that. And I know God enough to know that when I pray over a thing I have NEVER failed to get justice from my Maker.
This is really insulting. Why would a foreigner be mobilizing against our government? |
A majority of Nigerians are so dull & myopic. When boko haram started their insurgency, foolish Nigerians were saying " ki lo kan mi?," " what's my business? As long as it stays in the north of Nigeria, I don't give a shyte. Let them all kill themselves if they like." Lol. A few people like us were saying boko haram is a national problem & not a regional, sectarian or Muslim vs Christian thing but NO! Typical of a lot of Nigerians, they chose to see the whole insurgency with bias based on tribal, religious & local ethnic affiliations forgetting that a lot of the people killed in Northern Nigeria are/were innocent Nigerians of all religions, tribes & ethnicities. Christians,Muslims,Yoruba,Igbo Hausa,Idoma,Tiv,Calabar,Efik,Fulani,Igala, etc Nigerians from all corners (including & mostly people from these Northern states) of the country have been victims but no some people preferred to see it as a fight between "tribes" and/or "religions." A lot of Igbo-Nigerians selfishly claiming that "Igbo people are the most attacked people" as if bombs know how to detect people's tribes before they kill them. A lot of selfish Christians saying "all Muslims are evil because boko haram members are Muslims." Now,the new defacto government of Nigeria known as the dreaded boko haram is planning to extend their terror campaign from the north to the heart-beat of the country & it's now some people want to start opening their eyes to see rightly? Some blindly still think that boko haram is "trying to islamize Nigeria." Lol. I laugh out really loud. These guys are terrorists & do not necessarily need any reason to back up what they're doing. That's there job & they're doing it & here we have a clueless, daft & weak government that doesn't know what to do,coupled with the fact that the majority of the people of this country are also foolish, daft & biased about every single thing. Nigeria is at war,at war with terrorists, not Muslims or Christians,Igbo,Hausa,Yoruba or Tiv. When we were supposed to work as a nation to fight these terrorists,we were saying "it wasn't our business" & they kept growing & capturing Nigerian territories one after the other. First it was Borno state, then Yobe, then they expanded to several other states....Niger,Kano,Adamawa,Bauchi, etc & you guys thought they would stop there? If you mumus like, still keep deceiving yourselves that this is about Christians vs Muslims, tribal rivalry or regional rivalry, when we wake up one day & see that we no longer have a country, may be we would realise then, but it would already be too late. I only pray that boko haram is not able to capture Lagos otherwise,we Nigerians would definitely have become refugees. God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Amen.
You didn't say what it is about. |
So what are those funny looking guys doing on that bridge every time? Is it part of the intelligence too? I doubt it very much, because there was a decomposing corpse at the Adeniji Adele end of that bridge just yesterday. That kind of thing calls to question the security preparedness of the country. It's a shame that in 2013 in Lagos, human remains can be exposed like that. |
Coco diva: Mr president pls do something significant fast and curb these boko boys.Don't just be a decoration in Aso-rock.He's doing something, that's why you are reading this here. Read the report again, beyond the headline. |
Reyspin: I doubt if this piece originated from Sunday Oliseh..I never know him to this smart..But this piece is a very insightful advice for our footballer..You can do yourself a big favour by requesting for Sunday's analysis on SuperSports at the just concluded AFCON. He was superb. Sunday has already reportedly joined the FIFA technically committee. Go figure! |
Joeadamu86: The amnesty package proposed by northern elders and approved by the presidency is as follows:lol... This a big Awada of the Kerikeri genre. |
KnowAll: Nigerians will be rich when the Governors begin to spend 90% of the money they get in the right place. Nigeria will be mega rich if the FG does the same. So Nigerians already know the culprits of why they are poor. They can do something about it.There seems to be inconsistencies in the two statements coincidentally in the same paragraph. What is your point sir? |
Emmadani: 27%?Ya i can believe dis only if nigeria is composed of only the south.Am no tryin 2 b ethnical hr,d northern nigeria poverty rate is 2 high,n almost 75% of 9ja is made of d northenas. If it was only southern 9ja i wil bliv it,but 2geda wit northen 9ja dats a dream even in d next 20 yrs.Av dis guy actually travelled around 9ja 2 knw watsup?I dnt tink so.The bold is not correct sir. |
omenka: .... And incase you care to know, (cos some come up with that stipid question: what effort r u making on ur own) I commit 30% of my take home to charity, and yes, I'm bragging about that! There are damn too many pple in this country that have found themselves in such pathetic conditions just due to the sheer wickedness of our so called leaders. They live in a different world and are oblivious of what is hapening on the mainstreet!Good charity bro. Sure, we'll kick them out soon and put you there to continue your charity works. God bless you. |
frankgreat: I see coup invoke!!! Military men go vex take over govt olol |
eggheaders: uncle gej i hail ooo.indecision wan finish this goat.I ban super eagles,I no ban them again.na mend do independent day bombing,no be mend.I change unilag to maulag, i no change again.I can't grant ghost amnesty, I will grant them again.what sort of low life shyte scumbag did we vote has president. even my pet rabbit is more decisive than this cloned orangutan."Only a fool will not change his mind" - Bill Clinton |
lawyer: I read this article this morning via mobile punch newspaper with respect to Property Developers duping people off Millions of Naira based on Rent Accommodation apartments paid for in Lagos and not delivering the apartments to them after they paid and i want to give prospective future tenants some tips and advise on how to avoid this unfortunate scenario in future when they encounter such issues (Please read carefully Line by Line)Kudos to you sir. The points are well taken. There's no limit to background check when entrusting your possession to someone, it goes beyond house rent. Another lesson is that these guys live among us and may somehow find themselves in leadership positions sooner or later, what they would do then can only be imagined. Nevertheless, I noticed you repeatedly used YOUR in place of YOU ARE or YOU'RE. I was wondering if it's a new form of writing or it's just a matter of style. I think it's wrong, especially when you meant to be taken seriously. |
Polygamy is not a stupid part of our bloody culture. It is a stupid act we allowed to grow and become accepted. If you descend from a true polygamous home you would never wish it on your enemy. On this same NL a topic of how a lady poisoned and stabbed her husband for daring to introduce a second wife exists as deterrence for young men to avoid such a life . Polygamy breeds hatred, jealousy, vengeance and all sorts of evil calculations. The death of the patriarch always develops into mini wars. If you are not polygamous and never will why are you here supporting such a practice
There are also many polygamous family that have done well for themselves and are the envy of the society. Hatred, jealousy, vengeance and all sorts of evil calculations are human tendencies, they occur in every society irrespective of the form marriage, they are not exclusive to polygamous setting. BTW polygamy is really not Africa specific, there are groups in North America who are into it. Mitt Romney's grandparents migrated to Mexico because of polygamy. |
johnkent: And there's a reason why you wouldn't get into a polygamous relationship. Because you are a smart, education, strong black woman. Only if we had more women like you. There's absolutely no reason in this modern world that we live in for a woman to be in such a relationship. Polygamy is a way of degrading women and way to see them more as a commodity than an actual human that they are. I'm a guy but I feel very strongly about women's rights and Gay rights if you have't figured that out yet.1) Are you a polygamist? 2) If Yes, did you go into polygamy to "degrade" women? 3) Do you know that there are Harvard/Oxford educated Nigerians/Africans in polygamous marriages? Are they being degraded as well? 4) Do you know what is called CULTURE and TRADITION? 5) Do you bother to study African cultures and traditions before you jumped into sensitive issues like despicable practices like homosexuality? 6) Do you know it is better to leave us Africans alone this time than think/plan any enslavement and colonialistic moves? 7) Do you know we are better prepared than the last time to resist any attempts to enslave us through forceful homosexuality messages? Do you know this stupid homosexuality messages being forced on Africans cannot be attempted elsewhere? China, Russia, The Vatican, India, Italy etc?9) I implore you Mr Kent, take your message back home to your country. It's dead on arrival. |
johnkent: You argument about polygamy is a lil stu-pid. Polygamy is illegal in most countries as a way to protect women's right. Your African fathers were getting married to these women not because they loved them but as a way to "enslave" them and their kids.We shall see. |
