Politics › Re: ACN & CPC Accuse PDP of floating Another APC by porka: 8:52am On Mar 12, 2013
IBnatty: How come no one has never thought of this APC(d other guys, not d merger) registration as a decoy by Tinubu/Buhari & co to checkmate sabotage by their opponents against the merger while they bid their time & trash out modalities & all.
What I am mean is this, fearing that PDP might do the 'known', Tinubu & co sent some of 'their' people to ginger a registration of a party wit the acronym APC, they wil go to the media & cry foul. This move wil earn public sympathy for them & ofcourse a bad name for the PDP. Above all the ultimate goal - PDP wil be handicapped in engineering or influencing a formation of a party with the acronym APC since something like that is already in the horizon by people not in their (PDP) ranks.
When they are done with sorting out issues like Logo etc at their own pace (becoz obviously they dont wana rush the merger so as to avoid friction in the near future), the other APC guys will stop their ginger and withdraw and the merger gets registered.
These ACN/CPC are smart after all. Dont take them for a ride.
It's also a possibility.

But it's also portraying them as baby politicians which seems to be the dominant perception right now.

Believe you me, babies cannot be trusted with power, people want MEN.

Seems the strategy is counterproductive after-all.

Paul John: I think it's the weaker party that should be so desperate in using any trick available to challenge the bigger party. It seems it's the other way round, shameless PDP must so scared to have gone this far if true. While some Laptop crew members wanted us to believe PDP is at ease with the emergence of the merger cheesy
It's obvious PDP has only survived due to poor democracy being practiced in Nigeria before now. All in all, I wish the right person is eleccted irrespective of the party he or she is with.
That's pretty naive of you.

BTW, Lai Mohammend didn't threaten anyone when they used their Lagos money power to decimate Afenifere to set-up a splinter group.

Neither did we hear of any impending Armageddon when AD was cannibalized to set-up their own AC(N).

Has anyone ever heard of sounding out an authority by propaganda of an intention to register a product even without/before filing a single paper?

That's funny.

Maybe they should just cool temper.

INEC will register APC, it's just this type of hyperactivity (reaction without substance) that PDP is looking for really.

Politics › Re: Largest NIPP Power Plant To Be Launched In March by porka: 11:55am On Feb 13, 2013
tomakint: This is a very good news, provided a thorough follow-up is embarked upon after the commissioning! I have always maintained that when OBJ came to power in 1999, the total mega watts (mw) of power supply to the country was 2,800 mw, he had the chance to add another 6,540 mw according to experts (at least going by the oil prices that soared greatly under his administration and other additional grants from foreign partners as a result of our newly grabbed democracy) which would have taken our total electricity generation to a stabilising 9,340 mw. Unfortunately, he squandered this golden chance as a result of his “shadow chasing antics” especially the party politics he was playing and the unnecessary rancour he had with his deputy, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, for more than 3 years and other political associates and opponents. His rudderless style of leadership nearly brought the country on her knees. The history of power injection into the economy dated way back in 1956 when the 60 mw Ijora Thermal Power Station came up, twelve years later (1968), 760 mw was added into the National Grid through the Kainji Hydro Power Project, ten years later in 1978, the 720 mw Ogorode Sapele Thermal Power Project was added. The 540 mw Jebba Hydro Power Station was added in 1985; next was the 1,320 mw Egbin Thermal Power Station in 1987, the 600 mw Shiroro Hydro Power Station came up in 1990 while the 600 mw Ughelli Power Station was added in 1991 making the total 4,600 mw as at the year 1991! From 1991 till date (2012), if not for the corruption that has bedevilled the nation’s system we should be boasting of more than 9,000 mw but what do we have now? Good job, President Goodluck Jonathan, I am watching cool
With due respect sir, what you state here is not completely true.

The power problem in 1999 was inadequately identified by almost everyone, including some of the most trusted hands we have in the system.

In 1999, most people, including Chief Bola Ige, Dr Olu Agunloye etc believed that the problem was as a result of mismanagement of NEPA.

Therefore, generation (general increase in capacity) was not immediately factored in the solution early on.

It was not until some years later that the same Obasanjo's administration with serious input from Atiku through Liyel Imoke Committee came up with the NIPPs.

NIPPs constructions were still on going when Obasanjo left office (he commissioned a few).

On coming to office, the Yaradua administration, due to one reason or another, decided to stop further financing of the NIPPs and this stalled the completion.

The Jonathan administration decided to complete the plants as part of its strategic agenda to light Nigeria.

These are the same projects being commissioned now sir.

Putting everything in perspective, it is mischievous to say Obasanjo "squandered this golden chance".

He (Obasanjo) actually started these projects, the completion of which we are witnessing.

Some of the power plants you cited above were not started and completed by the same administration.

Government is a continuum, the important thing is to see to the end of a project(s) in the overall interest of the public.

they never knew thet neeeded gas for the tubines.
they never knew other issues would come up and cover their track, they are here spewing bul5sit about 50 % completion.
Refer to the bold.

Why can't we make comment without this particular refrain, "it is only in Nigeria... blah blah"?

Billions of dollars was spent in rebuilding New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and yet they had a power-cut during SuperBowl.

It has more than been acknowledged even by the planners of our NIPP that gas, a major component of the project, was not factored in the planning.

Now that they are getting around the problem what is the offense in that?

Would you rather the plant is turned to a tourist attraction because mistakes were made?

Mistakes are made all over the world "it is not only in Nigeria" sir, the important thing is to admit it and redress appropriately not sitting down and doing nothing.

Why is El-Rufai so gullible.

Broda, Obasanjo did not do any about face, he planned the beginning of your self-imposed merry-go-round from the end.

He already knew you'll be so carried away with your rabid hatred for Jonathan.

That's what they do in the military.

It's the craft they play in politics.

They call it Airoju Airaye in the local parlance.

That is why Obasanjo is Obasanjo and not El-Rufai.

Why do you think Obj's so successful as a leader?

He gave you what to worship for the time being by diverting your restless spirit to some wishful thinking.

Broda, those other guys with you too were part of the game, and I dare say including NOI herself.

Festus Odimegwu is the chairman of the strategic National Population Commission as we speak.

Sorry, there won't be any other time for you again, you are not relevant to the game anymore.

Please change the title to "How Obj delivered the presidency to GEJ"

Eeyaaah!

Obasanjo is the ultimate godfather of the Nigeria's contemporary politics, he's followed by IBB.

Both are master tacticians of the military stock.

Tinubu is another master tactician, the difference between him and the two dons is the lack of military training.

But what he lacked in the military grooming, he made up for in street sense.

Another person who is fast turning his so-called weakness into immeasurable strength is... GEJ, underrate him at your peril.
If you are an objective and intelligent fellow, you would know that Fashola has done more as a governor than GEJ did.

For all those abusing Fashola, compare his stewardship as a governor and that of GEJ as a governor. Remember Lagos is 5x more populous than Bayelsa and receives less in Federal allocation.
That's very true bro.

But that is just one aspect of the story.

Now consider that 70% of the infrastructure in Lagos; roads, bridges, airports, seaports, tertiary institutions, military barracks, tunnels, hospitals, power plant etc were built by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Consider further that Lagos rakes in more than 250 billion naira from taxes on businesses and people who have come to Lagos as a result of the infrastructure provided by the Nigerian government, Lagos was a Federal Capital City for over 31 years.

Also note, that the infrastructure being provided newly are owned by private individuals who will re-coup their monies, some for over 20 years.

Again, please look very closely on some renovated schools and roads, you will see a sign that points to the company that renovated them as a CSR, even Oga Fashola's alma mata.

You should also factor that security is being handled by the business moguls to protect themselves and their business, there's a FUND set-up for that.

The new railroad being built is commendable though, when completed.

Blendy77: I don't't know the woman in question and how she conceived but I can boldly tell you that its not impossible. Maybe she conceived via ivf and doesn't want to say so. If you read the ivf thread, I also told a story of an elderly woman of about 60years or early 60's that brought her baby to the clinic to show appreciation to the Drs and nurses for helping her conceive. I wasn't the only who noticed the lady because another Nairalander also confirmed that she was also at the clinic the day the lady came. Here's Georges memorial clinic number 012715320. Any of you can call to confirm. The lady was there last week tuesday to be precise.
Secondly I also witnessed another elderly lady of not less than 60 too celebrating her bfp about same time I got mine in Georges. That should be early may this year. What I can't tell is if she is still carrying the pregnancy or has given birth or has had a miscarriage cos I haven't seen her after that day. Its possible she is doing her antenatal elsewhere or has traveled out of the country.

Finally, one of my bosses also delivered a set of twins early last year at 54 via ivf as well but she won't tell you she did IVF. I knew she did cos my company's Dr showed me her file one of those bad days I was crying in his office over my inability to conceive. The Dr couldn't console me and he brought out the file to show me her age and said if God can do it for this lady who is older than your mum, why can't you trust God to do your own.
So don't conclude on this woman's case because she could actually have carried that baby to term even with menopause.
Let journalists do their job then and ask proper questions.

What is shameful in IVF?

It was all celebration on TV yesterday for Nordica Hospital IVF recipients, including the children.

But, seriously why would a 59 year old woman want to have a child?

It is to turn him/her motherless in few years?
Travel › Re: Bayelsa Helicopter Crash: I suspect Foul Play – Governor Suswan by porka: 4:56pm On Dec 21, 2012
5much: how come Nigerians so much believe in superstition.
Oga, this is not superstition.

It is called suspicion.

There's really nothing wrong in suspecting that something is fishy after what seems like a streak of negative occurrences.

For instance, the Nigerian Muslim Um mar suspected ORAL POLIO VACCINATION was something crafted in the West to reduce their population by making their young girls barren and infect their population with HIV.

They were well within their rights to raise questions after what Pfizer did with meningitis vaccine trial.

The Taliban in Pakistan shot dead polio immunization workers because of suspicion of similar Osama Bin Laden episode.

Hugo Chavez also suspects that the 'Great Devil' has links to his and other Latin American leaders' cancer problems. He said he didn't accuse anyone though.

I became suspicious of this crash too after reading the account of Gen Yakubu Gowon (ironically General Gowon claimed/believe it is a mere accident).

My suspicion is based on the following;

1) Who arranged the alternative chopper for Gen Gowon after he was told he would fly with Gov Yakowa and Gen Azazi?

2) Did the young chopper pilot suspect anything and try to approach General Gowon as a cover, knowing fully well that nothing can happen to Gowon? It is doubtful if it's protocol for Pilots to approach a VIP they want to fly.

3) Is the account(s) of the 'eye witness(es)' that the chopper exploded in the air true?

4) How comes Gov Danbaba Suntai's plane flying at a higher altitude had survivors while bodies of a six man occupant of a chopper flying at a relatively lower altitude burnt beyond recognition?

5) The Nigerian Navy has declared that the helicopter was air worthy.

Answers to these questions can only come through a thorough scientific/forensic investigations.

Obasanjo raised a team to investigate the polio vaccine questions then, they traveled far and wide after which their fears were allayed.

Governor Shekarau's team was not even convinced until they came out with their own findings. They later declared refusal of immunization a crime in Kano.

Prof. Wole Soyinka raised an alarm of the next phase of Boko Haram's strategy early in the year; targeted assassination of prominent people, including Kongi himself.

So sir, it is only natural for people to suspect foul play in matters of life and death.

This is different from saying they were killed by an Ogbanje in the village.

Suspicion comes through our sense of danger.

Superstition is a product of helplessness.
