DaniellaDokubo: Government is selling off its FX reserves. This is not a sustainable solution. Way to go. EXPORT goods and service! You people keep talking as if Nigeria has no source of forex. Oil, gas, a few agricultural produce, remittances, etc. These are sources of forex. We need more but in the meantime let them do what they can do. |

Build your country before you start talking tough. It shows this one has nothing but rhetoric to offer like other African leaders of the past and present. Patrice Lumumba said the same thing to the Belgians. We know how it ended. France will keep an eye on this man and sabotage the fragile economy of his country. |

Imposition/increase of tax on major commodities 5. Lack of sacrifice and extravagance life style of the president and his appointees 6. Increase in the cost of governance at the expense of Nigerian people 7. Blaming the previous APC government for their failure/lack of taking responsibility 8. Corruption in the distribution of relief package 9. Lack of fulfilment of promises 10. Trial and error in approach, etc I agree with you on points 5 and 6. Number 1 and 2 were very necessary steps. Politics › Re: Tinubu Policies Gradually Paying Off by predictor1: 6:54am On Mar 27, 2024 |
surgical: 700 was black market rate not the official rate, buhari official rate was 490 I still don't understand what Tinubu wants to achieve with his jagbajantis economics What he wants to achieve and what he is already achieving bit by bit is to stabilize the economy and reduce budget deficits. Jonathan and buhari nearly destroyed Nigeria's economy with their mismanagement. You were buying fuel at a crazily subsidized rate of #200 when Ghana a fellow oil producer was selling at #900 a litre and you didn't know they were borrowing to make that happen. Naira was weak because we were importing way too much but it was at #400 official rate and you believed that was the true value of the naira. Look, if Tinubu had not taken over from that idiot buhari, Nigeria would have ended up like Argentina or Lebanon. Argentine peso was 9 to a dollar in 2015, today it's 850. Lebanese pound to a dollar is 36,000. Those countries made the same mistakes Nigeria had been making, subsidizing fuel and shoring up their currencies artificially. Tinubu knew you wouldn't understand but he is moving ahead anyway. |

Lovenorth: This is a pure propaganda, the Tinubu that claims to be doing the right thing what is the pragmatic benefit to the price of good and services for the benefit of Nigerians? Prices will drop. Nigerians are the ones working against Nigeria right now through profiteering, artificial increments in prices and smuggling food to neighbouring countries. |

What gives your currency value? Is it not it's purchasing power....?
When you need a trailer load of Naira to buy a pack of bread how do you call that undervalued....
We do international trade, and we need to produce to get the foreign currency...or borrow to augment....
Produce, produce, whichever way you can do it... Wether it's with diesel, and export to foreigners, the people exporting to us don't have two heads.
Let's start production, we have comparative advantage already... massive arable land....
How can we be importing wheat..... with all this land.... We have citizens in diaspora, they would still need Local food stuff, but even our export is not meeting Thier demand....
Produce and export ... nothing more... You made sense. Even if it's yam, banana and garri for export to Nigerians abroad. Produce! |

Just imagine the situation of those guys, who is working and have time to go stay in a bet shop from morning till midnight to the point of sleeping over....
They never wished for that... Who stopped them from being actively engaged? There are educated people and also people who have gained freedom from apprenticeship doing odd jobs when the right job hasn't come. I worked as a labourer before I got employed in a decent organization and I was a graduate already. What stops these ones from working as sales boys or cleaners or petty traders instead of wasting away doing nothing? Why can't they learn how to ride okada or Keke napep and start from there? Why can't they hawk bread or hawk drinks and satchet water with wheel barrows? People no dey hawk CD with wheelbarrows? Stop making excuses. It's not about the government alone. It's more about the individual. |

onumadu: You are referring to a region that was denied international access (international airports) for decades on. Do you know the impact to the economy and development to such region? Systemic subjugation? And it was denied all other federal infrastructure as well (federal being because Nigeria centralized development BY FORCE). Do you think that the East would not have left Nigeria in the dust if it had international access, and control of its own security (like regional police for example)? Why do you still have people saying openly that the Igbo must never be allowed to be president? What are they afraid of? Why are you not allowing them to form a separate country instead? Let me make a prediction: Nigeria 20 years from now will be far worse than Nigeria today. Because of your hate of your own salvation. God's promise to Abraham is actually the same he made to Igbo: I will bless those that bless you, and I will curse those that curse you. Narcissism of the worst kind . |

MadamExcellency: It's only in Nigeria the Fulanis call themselves "the North" or "Hausa Fulani" to claim a majority stake in Nigeria notwithstanding being a minority group. In Niger Republic, there is nothing like Hausa-Fulani. Fulanis are on their own. It's because the hausas are stupid. They allowed the fulanis who were immigrants in their midst to take over their land as rulers. The same mistake happened in Ilorin. We should really thank our ancestors the Fulanis were chased out of Oyo empire. |

I remember when I could buy a bottle of coke for #10. That was around 1996. Naira was strong. Bata shoes then were like #200 for a pair. Now, our darling naira ain't so darling anymore. What has gone wrong over the years? Many reasons have been given. * Nigeria imports too much * We produced next to nothing for export besides oil * Corruption * The activities of the black market *Tinubu Whatever it is, it's not looking good. I never thought I'll see the day when I'll exchange a dollar bill for #1000. I did recently. There were these dollar bills I kept as souvenir since 2010. Then a dollar was less than #200. I changed them for #800 each in early February.I asked the aboki how much he would sell a dollar back to me and he said #1400. Since then a dollar had exchanged for close to #2000. Some Nigerians rejoiced at this , they were of the opinion that it showed they were right to have voted against the present president. These days the naira is fighting back. Yesterday it was #1460. This afternoon it is #1412. What are the naira's chances? As goes the naira, as goes Nigeria. On this thread I've decided to turn myself to a monitoring spirit and talk about the naira's chances, hence Nigeria's chances. |
