Lalami3232: Nigeria is the only country wey be say prices of things dey go up but can never come down. That's why we're all scared of increase in prices. The thing be say Nigerians are wicked by default and are full-time hypocrites. We deserve the kind of leaders wey we dey get. No matter how the economy good reach, the already increased prices of goods won't come down. An evil country with evil leaders and evil citizens. I get so angry discussing the situation of this country. What do I even know sef aside enlightening my fellow men nationwide.

SoNature: Bola Tinubu met the dollar at 400 official rate and 600 at parallel market rate. Until it drops below what he met it, we have nothing to celebrate.
Again, nobody forced Tinubu to take that job! He lost sleep, spent a lot of money and travelled round to country to convince Nigerians that he was capable of doing the job! He should do it and stop seeking validation! The really painful thing is when I read comments such as this from educated people like you. What were we producing to make dollar #400 naira when buhari was there and #200 when Jonathan was there? They were using our foreign currency reserve to prop up the naira so that their Hausa friends could roundtrip it on the black market!!! How come many of you don't understand this? This government has removed that support for the naira. That's why it went up so sharply. They're trying to stabilize it now. That's why it's coming down. Without a stable currency no investor would come to your country. |

bonechamberlain: the crisis in the middle east, climate issues etc has more impact on price of oil not the war in Ukraine. Especially with the activities of the Houthis in the straits of bab-el-mandeb.
This western propaganda of using the Ukraine crisis in relation to wheat shortage in blackmailing African countries have been addressed so many times, Russia is a net wheat exporter, even with sanctions it still the top exporter of wheats. China,India etc also exports wheats. Ukraine alone cannot stunt Nigeria's economy because it's war with Russia is preventing exporting of wheats. Russia is the world's largest oil exporter after Saudi. Most of Europe relied on Russia's energy export before the Ukraine war started. Now Russia is shunning the European market and has turned to buyers in Asia. That alone is major impact on oil prices. Secondly Ukraine is the world's 5th largest exporter of wheat, bigger China, India , etc. Russia wouldn't even allow Ukraine to export its wheat freely. These are the issues. The world is a global village. |

bonechamberlain: I stopped reading this rubbish article the moment I saw "war in Ukraine". This line is now a western propaganda line to blame Russia. When in essence they are the ones allowing the war to continue and escalate.
Absolutely nothing concerns the war in Ukraine with Nigerian woes. The war in Ukraine sent the price of oil going up. Nigeria imports refined products from crude oil, so definitely oil prices in the global market will affect Nigeria. Ukraine and Russia are two of the biggest exporters of wheat and maize. Nigeria is one of the largest importers of wheat. Definitely you should accept that the war in Ukraine will affect not only Nigeria but many other countries too. |

LadyExcellency: Argentina was worse than Nigeria but their president had a blueprint and just had a balanced budget in decades without borrowing a dime. Banned printing of money and he is just doing fine.
So stop making excuses for President Tinubu and his cabinet. Argentina's president you are all praising also removed subsidy and floated their currency from 200 peso to a $ it went to 800 pesos to a $. Inflation went up overnight, prices of goods are increasing everyday in Argentina. Inflation in Argentina has grown to 240% and by the end of this quarter will be 250%. Yet you are praising him. |

advanceDNA: Lol... ......
Na u dey claim say we go be like argentina...So if I might ask..
.how much did obasanjo use to peg naira at 1 8 years.... and how much was our foreign earnings per month, and how much did he pay IMF..?? & how much was dollar requirements at that time
how much is needed now in Tinubu's era to peg the currency ...at for example 900naira per dollar......how much is our dollar requirement now?? how much are we earning per month through crude oil, That will make run out of foreign earnings like argentina as u claimed Lol. Oil price in 1999 was 19$. By 2000 it went to $31. In the world of economists that's a huge jump. And we were pumping over 2m barrels. Today oil is $80 down from $100. We're pumping around 1m barrels. How much did Obj pay then and how much was forgiven? Please help us with those figures. How did you think Argentina and Nigeria got to this sorry stage? By subsiding the wrong things like fuel and naira. Is it any surprise that the PDP people could not built any infrastructure for 16 years? Or improve basic things like power supply and education? Buhari toed the line and dug us deeper. Same with Argentina. Our revenue had been dwindling since Jonathan's days. They resorted to borrowing to pay salaries. Buhari took it further by printing money. Tinubu's policies are the same things they are doing in Argentina now. It was the same thing they did in Peru. In fact, if you wanted to save Nigeria at this point you would do the same. |

Abemy: Tinibu was not totally exonerated. He is in charge now, and must act fast. He pretended to have removed subsidy, while he is paying even higher now, how can he not be blamed? If he didn't bring the subsidy back Nigeria would have collapsed. Fuel would have become #1000+. |

Dollar requirement during obj time wasn't as much as today. And our debt then was not what it is now. Analyse it nao |

Bullfallo: Tinubu is only lying because the policies backfired. He only needed more money to be free in his hands to squander and buy loyalist and future elections. The policies backfired as we all have predicted. Closing the naira to dollar gap is a good thing to avoid round tripping. But not funding it with more dollars is why the gaps keep increasing each and every time the gaps is closed by cbn. So you believe Tinubu should continue to support the naira with dollars from foreign reserve ? What you will have is another Argentina with less than zero dollar foreign reserve. |

Are you sure if the Argentine president is the one in Nigeria you would not curse him like you are cursing tinubu?
Milei became president in December 2023 and by January inflation had gone up from 200% to 240%. According to projections before the middle of this year inflating is expected to go up to at least 250%. What Timubu did was exactly what Milei did. He removed subsidy more and floated the currency. The following day shops doubled prices. But many Nigerian youths are not informed and too lazy to read this up. |

franchasofficia: They will not also tell their youths that back then, the fastest way to end war was to capture the national capital so that the President can surrender and call for ceasefire which was the reason Ojukwu moved most of his gallant Biafran soldiers towards Lagos to capture the capital of Nigeria so that the war could end fast while Nigeria allowed Biafra to go their way and many other world powers used Nigeria to destroy Biafra. Is this the lie your fathers in the East tell their children? Ojukwu wanted to capture Lagos so that Nigeria could surrender and then Ojukwu would hand Lagos back to Nigeria and then Biafra would go it's separate way. Wonderful story. |

Racoon: No secret hidden under the sun that will not be exposed. The atrocities of this civil war will continue to hunt the state. There's nothing secretive in the letter or its content. Gowon plainly asked the British prime minister to encourage his press to be fair in its reportage of the war in the British media. Then he said once Nigeria's internal problems are solved free flow of oil export to Britain will continue. That's international trade. If they don't sell the oil will they drink it? |
