pazienza: Important to note that in Igbo land, soups and swallow are not put in same plate but MUST be put in separate plates. Because I notice that some Igbos are beginning to copy alien cultures around us. Our world’s a very big world and one that doesn’t revolve around Igbo people and customs from one particular time. If the swallow and ofe are in the same plate and it’s just for you (not on the off-chance of feeding a family around you), and what? Who’s going to die? |

God bless Nigeria. Oha Soup......one of our favorite...oh la la And Ila-alasepo is one of the best soup from our Yoruba people too. Always on point Naija is sooo blessed mehn! Edika-ikong and Efo-riro are just like brothers and sisters for real.. Pics way below....[/quote]No to Ila alasepo (unless it’s Ondo-made). That stuff is garbage. With the exception of that one state, Yoruba people don’t know how to cook okro. Their own version of draw soup is more akin to ewedu (apon-ogbono isn’t big among Yorubas, and any-road they tend not to cook it properly) so they don’t combine okro with ogbono unless they’ve learnt elsewhere and they don’t rely on fine hand-chopping to get the okra gelatinous enough from the seed to draw so either it doesn’t draw or they use the most nonsensical methods to try and get it to. It’s very bad. No shade, no hard feelings but cooking ogbono/okro is by-and-large not a natural strong point of Yorubas. Only Ondo/Ondo-related people do it well. |

shortgun: Too much water. Overcooked vegetable. You didn't allow the oil to heat properly n its too much that's why the oil is separating. Next time add stock fish no matter how small. Your procedure is wrong....You have to pour in the stock first before adding water(you might not need to add water sef) Scent leave is too much....the aroma will be "too strong" Anyways, practice makes perfect. The guy did well. I think. |

Jewessgratitud3: Bind how? You mean form lumps? Pretty much. Some Igbo people hardly cook egusi without it and no-doubt it’s worthwhile but you don’t really-really need it technically. But if you’re comfortable using it and it’s right under your nose, use am. What it does is improve the texture, not alter the taste. Do you ever grind okpei (the Igbo version of dawa-dawa/iru) with your egusi seeds? No-doubt it has a smell (although it’s not as stinky as other types of proper ogiri) but that’s something that would change the taste of your egusi, but only for the better. Yoruba people won’t give you all these tips when it comes to egusi (besides their indigenous meals, rice and beans are generally the only things they know how to cook well minus Ondo, Ekiti and certain parts of Osun, what have more soup/vegetable variety) so listen to the Igbos, ndu Benue and Calabars in the house when it comes to egusi. Oyo egusi and egusi-Ijebu are total hogwash so let’s strike all that nonsense off the table if we’re going to talk about real, properly made egusi. |

Culture › Re: Eze Eri & His Chiefs Wearing Jewish Apparel (Photos) by Probz(m): 3:02am On Oct 25, 2023 |
gidgiddy: It is a general belief amongst most Igbo the progenitor of the Igbo race was a man called "Eri" who founded the Iduu Eri Kingdom in Nri, present day Anambra, from where all Igbo come from. It is also believed that Eri himself was a member of one the 12 tribes of Israel.
The King of Nri, the Eze Eri, HRM Eze Chukwuemeka Eri, is the " Aka Ji ofor Igbo", which makes him the sacred custodian of Igbo culture.
Eze Chukwuemeka Eri regularly wears Jewish apparel and the Star of David, his entire cabinet of chiefs wear the same.
Wether the Igbo nation has its roots in Israel or not is left for the experts to decide, however, most Igbos, despite being Christians, see Israel as their spiritual capital, and their support for the state of Israel is unflinching. That one is not the guy. Trust me. |

It doesn’t mean throwing away your primary culture (as if) but it does mean acknowledging it’s not just you and Nigeria in this world.
It’s just like how some ugly Yoruba tribalists almost come close to claiming certain Igbo-made cultural markers (ogbono, Osuofia, Aki and Pawpaw, at this rate probably even onugbu) but turn around and say that their insular tendencies make for another level of sweet (no, honey; it just makes you a/n ignorant, ugly and tribalistic idiot who likes to roll in things that aren’t yours but disrespect and marginalise the people) . If you’re going to wear Brazilian weaves (which I’m not sure I even particularly recommend), eat Igbo food, watch Igbo movies, watch Korean drama, press Asian-made Apple ’phones, use borderline-Israeli greetings (shalom) and eat Canadian maple syrup, respect that it’s not all about you and try and get to know those people and sub-cultures for yourself. We’re all inter-connected in this world. God knows I HATE narrow, myopic, one-sided Nigerians, whether that’s the certain type of tribalist I’m talking about or annoying freshies who call Cambwerwell/Runcorn grannies bad-arse gangsters for smoking 20 Lambert and Butler a day, not knowing that smoking’s a huge part of British culture traditionally (even if everyone just wants to vape nowadays as far as nicotine goes) and not a hooker/ashewo/hoodlum look like it is in Nigeria. Add goose fat if your palm oil if you don’t want to use the more conventional vegetable oils to semi-bleach it. Goose fat has a neutrally pleasant flavour that goes well with anything, from toast to okra to puff-puff to rice. I hardly butter my toast without it now. |
