Two electric poles just collapsed few moments ago, and luckily for passer's by and those around, it happened when there was no light else There would have been serious tragedy. I personally warned their Foreman about it when I saw how the abo.ki labourers were digging holes around the already weak poles before it later collapsed.

What is going on at Douglas road at the moment is enough to make a normal human being go insane. Douglas road is supposed to be a Trunk A road where big articulated vehicles pass through as well as heavy vehicular traffic of other cars. That notwithstanding, the road has been closed to traffic for some months now under the guise of road expansion and reconstruction but I want to state it here that if only Nigeria is a normal country, then whoever awarded this so called contract on Douglas road as well as the individuals doing this shameless act would have all been arrested and charged for public destruction of infrastructures, wasting of public funds and endangering of human lives!!!

There will be serious competition among constituent parts of Nigeria and each part will easily hold their leaders to account and the multiplier effect will certainly double our GDP/PPP within a short while and we will truly be on the part to greatness.
However, if the status quo remains, we will continue to drag not just ourselves down but the rest of Africa as well.
Madness is defined as repeating the same process over and over again while expecting different result. If we can't restructure Nigeria for effective growth then the only alternative left will be to breakup.

The level of mediocrity being bandied about in Nigeria is so irritating, disturbing and alarming. Lagosians are supposed to be largely enlightened yet they accept the kind of strangle-hold Tinubu has over the years used to keep Lagos on its knees thereby turning it into a giant with clay feet!! The kind of suffering residents of Lagos pass through everyday in trying to get by is so heartbreaking and traffic jams and accommodation crises alone constitute the biggest problem and misery people face in the city and the light rail project would have gone a long way in solving this issue because a significant percentage of those driving their cars into the roads as early as 4am would reduce as more people use the light rail for transit and many too won't mind leaving the city centre for suburbs since they can easily get to work through the light rail. Regardless of how important this project is to Lagos and it's people yet Tinubu through his puppets in Alausa has continued to enrich themselves at the expense of the citizens. Even Lagosians have accepted the mediocrity being thrown at them and even go ahead to celebrate them! The other time, an ordinary busstop was constructed and it suddenly became such a great feat that is being celebrated till today!! What many fail to understand is that Lagos was a former Federal capital for donkey years and the colonial masters in all the colonies concentrated developed in the capitals and try to bring it at par to what they have in their own countries. Irrespective of the fact that the capital was moved to Abuja, at least the foundation has already been created which subsequent state governments ought to build upon but instead of doing that the successive mediocre governors of Lagos keeps comparing the little they do to other states in Nigeria and be feeling funky while embezzling the monies that should go for development. Take a look at the peers of Lagos like Nairobi,Cairo, J'bourg, Abidjan etc and tell me if any of them is as chaotic and unlivable like Lagos. You can even mistake some of these African cities for Europe while Lagos continue to compare itself with Ibadan, Onitsha, Aba and Kano and afterwards feel like it's doing fine. A recent UN report stated that Lagos is the third most unlivable city in the world after war torn Damascus and the governor/authorities wasn't irritated.

And you think it's a good thing for a lecturer to be teaching in Hausa when the official language is English? What happens to others like you who aren't Hausa? How would they cope or you would be forced to learn it even if you are not interested in doing so? I'm sorry to say this but this is partly the reason why people from such areas perform below par relative to others due to conflict of interest.

My wife and I drank gari for 6 months, I pitied our little son back then because the golden morn we used to buy for him was suspended indefinitelyr. My weekends were always being shared with me. We used to have trainings on weekends. They'd now tie us down with one yeye Mr biggs food packs. I'd be too tired to eat the food sef because we used to finish late. I resigned without a farthing in my account, no vehicle to take home because I had submitted the official car key as the policy demanded . Bros, after 6 months, things began to change for the better. If I mention my company name in this forum... . So, that's how far determination could take you. I dine with world presidents. I won't say more than that. God's grace encompassed my effort. My colleagues I left behind are still the way I left them. Nothing has changed. Those who managed to relocate abroad, I do spend money on whenever I visit and decide to stop over to say hello. Damn it, this is absolutely inspiring!! I still believe that becoming a member of nairaland some years back was one of the best things that happened to me. I learnt several business ideas that fetched me millions of naira here. After my NYSC some years back, I left for Abuja and got a job with FCMB. We went for exams then interview and after everything, some of us who believed we were lucky to have scaled through got the job and it turned out to be marketing with very low pay. I abandoned the work and back to Aba, and from Aba, relocated to Lagos yet the offers I got in Lagos weren't much better, I left Lagos for Owerri and went into business. Although it was tough in the beginning but things improved and I began to diversify and today my aggregate earnings sometimes shocks me Figures I couldn't have envisaged even in my wildest imaginations a few years back! I got a chance to travel to the United States barely two months ago but I flatly turned it down and my elder brother went in my place. Some people thought I was crazy but I know that my income should I travel to the US can only grow arithmetically but if I continue doing what I'm doing here in Nigeria then I have the potential to grow my income geometrically with ease and less stress relative to someone in US. Sometimes I tend to rest on my oars when I look around me and feel very privileged but coming into nairaland and seeing people "light years" ahead will always jolt me out of my reverie just like you and Ariesbul just did now
I know I can still travel to the US and other Western countries on tourist visa some day. God bless Nairaland!!
