How did we get from there to here?

read what you typed again...

I typed i adhere to the rules too and even stated not all citizens have access to benefits..

And this is what you reply with?

Like for real? cheesy ... wow

EngGandalf:
You don't have to just “Adhere to the rules”.... ...its Immigrants like you, that get to Office and stop other immigrants like yourself from coming in.. Forgetting how you got here...
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by profemebee(m):
Apologies if it sounded rude..

My point was he knew the rules before going to the UK.. e.g. no recourse to public funds, etc... I'm also adhering to the rules.. i just have to..

This isn't something that just started .... even citizens can't access a lot of benefits..

i'm Nigerian.. not an English man, but doesn't stop me from speaking the truth.

You don't intentionally go into a fire and then complain about the heat..

Apologies once again if it sounded rude

missjekyll:
Woah...bit rude there, dont you think?

It's OK not to like the UK,its a bit rubbish at the minute.

They say 1st gen immigrants are more patriotic than anyone else but let me just say this...

If you ever start to think of yourself as an Englishman, remember Shamima Begum and remember the British Citizens who have been abandoned in the Sudan when they flew embassy staff out last week. When asked, they said the peopleleft behind will have local help.

What sort of country abandons its citizens?

beautiful response

he knew the rules before coming .. he can go back to Nigeria

kwakudtraveller:
Why you want access to public funds, you be poor person? 35k per year is a decent salary if you are low maintenance, it’s the same everywhere, you start from earning low and work your way up. What’s the minimum wage in your own country?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by profemebee(m): 5:58pm On Apr 12, 2023
thanks , I will work on the cover letter explaining everything

Solumtoya:
1. Yes. You still need to show their Bank Statement which will correlate with their financial circumstances. It doesn't need to have a huge balance but let their employment revenue show.

2. Yes, it matters. Let it make sense. Your parents cannot be earning N100k monthly and have an unexplained massive inflow.

Extra tip: Im your cover letter and application, explain any inflow/outflow that might cause the Officer to bounce the application
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by profemebee(m): 1:13pm On Apr 12, 2023
hi hi, pls I have a question..

If you're sponsoring your parents' trip (flights, accommodation documents showing they can stay with you, etc) and lets say they're still employed.

1. Do you need to still show their own bank statements to show their salary inflow?

2. Does their inflow and outflow from the salary bank account matter?

Or just my bank statements and payslips are the main focus here?

Please I need experiences from those who sponsored their parents who are still employed.. what documents were submitted?

Thanks.

arghhh.. i intend to get mine done next month.. Nigeria shaaa

Sorry about your experience and thanks for the information.

Please where can I buy nos 2 from?

Evagreenfields:
HI all,

I just wanted to rant small on my passport biometrics experience at Nigeria Commission, London.

My appointment time was for 11 am today (04.04 23). I arrived there right on time, thinking tops, 2 hours to conclude and leave. After the checks at the entrance, I was given number 3** but once I entered the waiting room, omo, see crowd. They were just receiving documents for number 220 and I was in the mid 300 range. I sha waited until about 1.30 before my documents were collected, this was just stage 1.

After this, to move to stage 2 became war. I observed some people who did not even do the stage 1 submission going straight to enrolment based on IMM (ahh, ayemi temi)! Children were so uncomfortable, crying and wailing up and down, and I definitely wouldn't blame them. After what seemed like an eternity, and after the 'fast track' people were serviced, right about 3.30pm, the coordinator incharge then decided to go back to the order of numbers given at the start and things started moving slowly.
I didn't get called until about 4.30 (for an 11am appointment). My heart went out to those who had to travel back to Wales, Scotland etc same day and had booked their flight/train.
I eventually captured and left the commission at about 5.07pm.
Morale of the rant: you can leave Nigeria but Nigeria will always follow you everywhere you go

*END OF RANT*

Ps: to make your experience slightly better, pls go with the following documents
1. Your C4 special delivery envelope (buy from the post office) cost about £6.85
2. Your 20 pound postal order addressed to the high commission (check their website for the correct addresse)
3. Your NiN print out (must match your passport name and order)
4. Your passport payment slip
5. Your acknowledgement form

The above is correct as at today Apr 4, 2023.

hi, what if i want to pay for myself and a child? is it possible to pay for both passports in the same cart?

Thank you for your response.

The address on the card is correct.

Yes the name is different as I am paying for a child.

What can I do? The child doesn't have a card.

so Am i supposed to do the share code thing for Right to work and Right to rent?

humblemoi:
It would be end of 2025. Issuance of BRPs end December 2024 which is why it is showing as the expiry.

hi hi beautiful people,

please I have a question/observation

I got my new BRP but it seems I have to do one share code for Right to work and Right to rent?

The date on my BRP is end of 2024 but the email i got from UKVI says permission to stay until end of 2025..

Which date do I go with as the expiration ?

Am i supposed to do share code for Right to work and Right to rent?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by profemebee(m): 1:54pm On Mar 16, 2023
no oo.. i didn't have to.. the email just dropped .. they pitied me lol

They didn't even backdate the dates.. so now my new BRP will take me way past 5years..

I guess i can apply for ILR as at 5years right? i dont have to use the entire years as stated in the new BRP

tobbyoladejo:
Congratulations boss. Did you have to make any contact through your MP again?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by profemebee(m): 11:14am On Mar 16, 2023
hi hi

Happy to confirm that my FLR M application has been successful.

Thanks for the support.

profemebee:
hi everyone, its been a while..

I need advice on a current situation

I applied for my spousal visa extension (FLR M) in the last week of June 2022 with biometrics done same week, and not gotten concrete response from Home Office since then. It was a standard application as there were no priority options available then, which I think was due to the Ukraine Family Scheme which affected timelines for applications within and outside the UK.

I only received a mail in August 2022 stating it will take longer than expected, and nothing more. There has been no proper way of communicating with anyone in Home Office, as the Home Office designated phone nos is automated, and there is no human interaction available.

I contacted my MP twice in October 2022 & January 2023 explaining the situation and the mental effect the delay has had on my family and I.
Home Office replied to the MP that my application will not be expedited unless I can provide medical evidence, prescriptions or a doctors note that my mental/physical health has declined as a result of the outstanding application (which i couldn't provide).

My passport also expires in October 2023 and i thought by now, I would have gotten my extension and can then face the Nigerian passport renewal hustle.

Questions:

- Is there anyone with similar delay for any applications within the UK? If so, how did you manage to reach Home Office? I was thinking of contacting my MP a 3rd time next week when it will be 9months since I made my application.

- My passport which is to expire in October 2023 has the initial spousal visa on it. Can I renew now even with a pending application? Should I wait?

- I haven't been able to switch jobs because i feel having an expired BRP will be a problem even if I have scale through the interview stages. My current employers have no issue, as they do that right to work check with my application nos. However, I intend to switch jobs as the UK economy dey cost more and more. Can I switch jobs with an expired BRP but with a pending application for renewal?

Apologies I'm posting here. I didn't post in the FLR M forum because it has been quiet for almost a year.

This whole thing has been annoying, after spending good sum on application fees and biometric appointment to get a good time slot. I can't even travel for personal and work purposes as i'm sure I won't be able to come back in with my expired BRP.

Thanks for anticipated responses.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by profemebee(m): 10:23am On Mar 14, 2023
the different levels of priority applications were paused mid last year because of the Ukraine family scheme which became HO's focus

Priority resumed this January 2023 for those applying outside the UK for the first spousal visa.

Bourne007:
But there's super priority (I think it's called usually out in 24 hrs) spousal visa you can apply for.

If you rather go down Tier 2, in weeks time switch to spousal

It's in your hands bàbà 🙂

TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by profemebee(m): 12:30am On Mar 13, 2023
Not sure i understood the bolded part in your response

One more question pls..

For a successful spousal visa extension, will my passport be stamped like the first spousal visa (I didn't submit the original passport though)? or just BRP will be changed with a letter from HO?

Bourne007:
Nothing... not until you want to renew your visa or travel out of the country
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by profemebee(m): 5:28pm On Mar 12, 2023
thanks.

Generally, what happens to valid visas on expired passports?

I still have just over 6months left on the passport.. I think I will wait an extra month to see if I get my spousal visa extension approval from HO

Bourne007:
Of course you can
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by profemebee(m): 1:14pm On Mar 12, 2023
yea, it seems that is my only option, chasing them via the MP because there is no way to communicate with anyone from HO.

Can I renew my passport? how does it affect a pending application?

I didn't submit it.. they only required a copy of all the pages.

Bourne007:
You have a 14 day grace period to put in another application though this means you will have to stop working pending a decision is made.

The only option you have is to keep chasing them 😓
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by profemebee(m): 11:04am On Mar 12, 2023
Oh wow, glad it worked for you

unfortunately, I cant apply for another one because the moment I withdraw my application, i'm illegal because my BRP expired since June 2022.

Please I still need answers to my questions

CheesyTee:
This can really be frustrating. Mine wasnt a vusa extension but i experiencd delaywhen i switced from T4 to T2 last year.

I saw so many posts in reddits with people in similar situation especially applications (for almost all visa
types. Switch, extension or spousal visa) submitted between Feb and May.

For me, I reapplied for another visa and it was approved two days after submission. The old visa fee was also refund three months after I received visa for the new application.

Although, some people later received visa but I could no longer wait after 7 months...

if most non-public fund benefits are tied to NI, then what about this LISA where 1k is added to 4k...

hi everyone,

Now that we are on public funds specifications, please are these two public funds:

- HM Government Discount Energy Bills Support Scheme which was automatically paid to my energy account last week.. i didn't request for it

- The monthly payment made to newborns in the Uk.. not sure what that is called.. is it public funds if wifey and baby are British but i'm Nigerian? Anyone whose child was paid that and still able to get British citizenship after passing all checks?

thats' why i'm trying to confirm if downloaded statements from internet banking platform is fine.. as an alternative.. thanks for confirming

newbie715:
Firstly, downloaded copies are allowed and perfectly fine to use. Secondly, even if they aren't (they totally are, by the way) if they have posted it, I then don't understand why you need to wait to receive it to submit your application online. I mean, the dates won't change if it's already on it's way to you especially as you said the statements will not be stamped. Am I missing something?

seen so many conflicting stories about using downloaded e-documents.. so decided to order to the house to be safe

Thanks for confirming it is fine to use downloaded e-documents

Bourne007:
Not sure why you are waiting for paper statements + stamps when UKVI has clearly stated that downloaded e-documents can be used
TravelRe: Applying For FLR After Your Initial UK Spouse Visa (extension) by profemebee(m): 9:54pm On Jun 10, 2022
Hi,

I have very few days left to expiry of my BRP, and been waiting for sponsor's 6 months bank statement (HSBC) to be posted to the house.. requested for it on the 1st of June 2022 so it covers the full months of Dec 1st 2021 - May 31st 2022 and the last day covered will be within 28days of online application... The statements from other banks have arrived..

We still haven't received the bank statement and this is what is delaying the online application as there is a rule no documents should be dated after the online application (i'm not sure if bank statement will come with a date).

Called the bank yesterday and today to get feedback, and they kept saying it should arrive.. we even re-ordered another 6months bank statement just incase...

The lady on the phone said we could download the same statements from internet banking platform as it is recognised and even used for things like mortgage..

Please has anyone used HSBC downloaded online statements for initial spousal visa or FLR M spousal visa extension? bearing in mind that HSBC doesn't stamp statements and i can see a difference already in the one we used in the last spousal visa application which was posted to the house and the one gotten from HSBC internet banking platform..

I'm trying to get alternatives as my expiry date of initial visa is close.. will appreciate quick response..

Thanks.

thanks for the clarification

newbie715:
1. By birth
2. Settlement
TravelRe: Applying For FLR After Your Initial UK Spouse Visa (extension) by profemebee(m):
Hi hi, please quick questions from the flr m online application questions..

1. "How long has your partner had British citizenship"...

If your spouse was born in Nigeria, and British citizen by descent, i.e. parents are British due to being born in the UK, and applied for the citizenship for the spouse when the spouse was younger as the citizenship can be passed to one generation, which is the answer?

a. By Birth or b. Date citizenship obtained?

If b is the answer (i think it should be a), what date is then the Date citizenship obtained?

I thought Date citizenship obtained applies to those who got citizenship from naturalisation for example..

2. Is FLR M spousal visa extension a Settlement or Family visa?

I ask because in the initial spousal visa application, the Type of visa & Purpose of Application was Settlement while I see online that Spousal visa is part of the Family visa..

Thanks for the response

abubarakat:
This must be new as I didn't come across it when I doing my renewal in 2019.

It feels strange that they would ask people to upload a copy of the landlord ID and i dont landlords will be willing to give out their ID to tenants. I want to believe a letter from the landlord giving his consent on your continous stay and a valid tenancy agreement should be sufficient.
TravelRe: Applying For FLR After Your Initial UK Spouse Visa (extension) by profemebee(m): 10:22pm On May 15, 2022
Quick question please..

There is a Proof of Identity/Travel History field in the upload supporting documents section which requests for a Copy of an ID document of the owner of the property you live in, such as a passport..

For those who have successfully applied while renting, what did you upload?

Not all landlords will drop an ID document.. how will i manage this situation?

Thanks for the response.. hopefully my HR will understand.. congrats on your ILR & naturalisation.. great news

newbie715:
Yes, I used the same NARIC certificate for my ILR and for naturalisation as I just got my passport a few months ago and I have never heard anyone talk about reprinting, maybe the poster lost the initial certificate?

Your HR really should not be requesting your new BRP. What they need to request is proof of your right to work which they can access by confirming your submission details with Home Office using this link https://www.gov.uk/employee-immigration-employment-status. My employer had to do that when my spouse visa expired and I was awaiting FLR and when I joined a new company when I was waiting for ILR. Some employers can be funny about it so you need to prioritise your online submission.
TravelRe: Applying For FLR After Your Initial UK Spouse Visa (extension) by profemebee(m): 11:32pm On May 04, 2022
thanks for the confirmation.

The certificate retrieved during your first renewal would have been over 2years as you used same for ILR and naturalisation.. so i'm good

Congrats on that.. great news

Alohetij:
I had to do a reprint for my first renewal after arriving in the UK as the initial one was over 2years old. Maybe I could have used the same but I didn't see anyone who did it and I wasn't ready to take the chance.

For ILR and naturalisation, I used the same NARIC certificate.
