i never add comments to this topic because a lot of statements are emotional and not data driven.. so no need a lot of beer-parlor driven statements and arguments.. generalization is a scary thing.. people just come here and make all sorts of emotional statements.. the funny thing is Data will never lie .. will never take subjective bias.. Data isn't emotional either You come to a country and want to tell them how to run their country Even the most useless countries in the world have some form of immigration control to protect their citizens, economy and culture Nigeria, with its red economical index scores and at one of its' lowest FDI moments still has immigration control.. our visa is also hard to get. i know about this personally.. We come from a country where one can't even do a simple task like voting in an election because the political leaders have said if you're not from a particular tribe, you will get killed or beaten if you appear at the polling booth ... common man.. and you're complaining about another country making laws protecting its own people ? Am i affected by the IHS increase or ILR being planned to be extended from 5years to 8years qualification? Yes i am.. But will i now use emotional arguments or beer-parlor talk about Immigrants contributing more to discuss this? No... when I know every country has the right to protect its citizens and control who comes in/goes out.. Lets focus..... Peerielass: Still a drop in the ocean compared to the number of white people working and paying taxes based on figures from the 2021 census. |

hi hi, please is this thing for real? Home Office asking for payslips from even previous employers (if you've changed jobs) during ILR application? I also hear about HO asking about letter stating the days you were on annual leave (something like that) Please can anyone with ILR experience confirm? Thanks.. LagosismyHome: Your employer is very wicked. How are you supposed to survive and what if during ILR home office Start asking for complete 5 years of payslip. Then all these would have even for nothing
Speak to your employer ASAP and start looking for another COS |

i really don't understand the whole back & forth like you said anything wrong.. Leaving your country to come to a new country to live in with just 1month rent is as risky as it comes... why don't we want to hear the truth? must the truth be coated with sugar? it is bitter truth.. a month is basically 30/31 days and another rent is due.. even if he started work, it is still a hard task paying all that rent and bills from 1st salary.. remember he has to settle in, etc which is another set of funds Pick your lessons from the thread and learn.. justwise: I don't know why some of you bothered to type all these long story, you do not travel to another country to live and work with just one month rent. Its a silly gamble which is likely to backfire as this case has proved
I really don't give toilet brush about how people decide to read and interpret my post, we can't run away from reality. |

hi hi, pls does a baby without a Nigerian passport require NIN?
The whole process is confusing as there is a new site https://immigration.gov.ng for the Nigerian passport application as the other one https://portal.immigration.gov.ng was stopped on the 7th of May 2023.
There is a mandatory NIN field for baby.. which is surprising.
I'm trying to renew my Nigerian passport and apply a fresh for baby |

thanks for confirmation... flight to London via Istanbul usually has only one stop.. nawa.. Turkey is a unique country.. asia and europe lol Progressivegee: No. One doesn't need a transit visa when laying over at instabul but if the flight has 2 stops in Turkey, one at Instabul and Ataturk, which is on the European side, then a transit visa will be required for that particular stop |

hopefully, paying for my child's application with my card will be possible.. they don't expect a child to have a bank card already bigtt76: Log on to the Nigeria immigration website and select UK as your processing country. You will redirected to Innovate1service website where you go ahead to fill out your forms and pay online. Ensure that the name on your debit/credit card matches the name on your passport. The process is straightforward and something you can do yourself. |

you tried ooo.. that smells like a lot of moneyyyyyy yea Owning is better, but people need to educate themselves so they're better prepared 0% deposit means the monthly mortgage payments will be higher right? hmmm Lexusgs430: After all said and done....... Rent money, is still DEAD money....... 🤣
Renovations is a continuous process (during covid, I gutted my whole kitchen)...... 2 months after, I gutted all my toilets and converted all my bathtubs to showers...... Last month, I gutted all my bedrooms....
The amount of equity I have accrued, if I was renting, that would be an impossibility....... 🙄🤣
Would you rather pay for survey, stamp duty, conveyancing (now we have lenders offering 0% deposit) or continually rent........ 😝 |

I didn't want to comment on the matter, but generally this whole rent is dead money talk fit put people in trouble... Mortgage is beyond deposit fees.. you still have other fees to pay.. Also, there are other heavy financial costs like renovations (if it applies to you) and then eventually the cost of fixing anything that happens in the house while you live there which you won't necessarily pay for if you were renting as most times, the landlord will fix it. Lets not even talk about the Interest rate (that will increase yet again) which has made mortgage payments even more expensive than renting. Yes, owning your house is Better than renting because it is yours, and you're not paying anyone.. but Please be ready financially.. it is deeper than just having deposit money Please lets educate ourselves before going on that journey.. find NL threads on mortgage especially from people who just did theirs recently.. I come in Peace Lexusgs430: Exactly....... Another house, is around the corner....... 🤣😂
Just drop £18K like that and hope he pays it back........ He must think the day wey den born us, our head hit ground...... 😝 |

Sorry .. did you mean £300.00 0r £30,000 That's tough if you meant £30,000 .... justwise: Honestly if your ultimate goal is to save towards buying a house then stock and share is not the right tool to use considering the risks involved. During the pandemic a family friend was saving to buy a house and they decided to start investing in stock and share while economy reopen. By the end of 2021 they have lost close to £30,000. They have to start afresh again saving |

it will be nice if people argue with facts though.. data.. real life data, and not beer parlour gist.. Economical data exists for a reason.. not just people saying what they think.. Facts backed with data will always defeat personal opinion.. SamReinvented: The first job that I got out of university in Nigeria (definitely not manager level), I was earning around a million Naira per month as at the time (USD 2,600 to be exact). It was for a US company and I was working remotely. I was not living in Lagos either, which means my expense was very low and I was saving a TONNE of money.
If not for second passport wey I dey find, I no go dey UK ooo. The math is not mathing in this country make I no lie 😂.
Anyway… I think you guys should let this argument to rest. People would have different perspectives and experience to things like this. At the end of the day, it is individual choices. Let everyone do what they feel is right for them. |

This is one of the wildest takes I have read here.. Like for real? or na joke? Naira, more purchasing power than British Pounds? dustydee: A lot of us make mistake by comparing the exchange rate. We should be more concerned with purchasing power. I dare say the naira has a higher purchasing power than the pound. If the exchange rate is a factor, how come South Korea is better than Nigeria - economically? By the way, I am not looking for a N600k job else how will I pay my bills? - Generator, water, security, accommodation etc. May God bless us all. |

Today I have had people belittle others experiences by using negative words like "bitch" , "go back to Nigeria" , "you should be grateful " and others. I am sorry but those sentiments are not okay to share and definitely not in the spirit of the thread.
Can we have our old thread back please? Feel free to share your experiences of the UK. If you disagree, read and pass. PEACE ✌️ |
