please stay within the context.. someone mentioned english speaking western countries and another said UK isn't immigrant-friendly..

that's what i was replying to..

The perfect way to use data in this context is to compare the % of immigrants to the total population because some countries are larger in land mass and population than others..

Bringing "according to hear say" to this is funny.... we are talking national stats and numbers.. not hear say..

Poanan:
U.S is more migrant friendly according to hear say. You many not have papers and still live fine but in the U.k u go hear am I won't be able to do anything. According people like daddy freeze and others .

Using percentage may be confusing. If you are a quantitative person, you cant just use percentage straight up. In business when we want to make a number look good we use percentage. But even if we use percentage how many of those percentage are not hooked in health assistant related job?,. We cant compare that to the u.s. in u.s, like someone said we have Nigerians doing great things and that is because policies enable them.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by profemebee(m): 11:12am On Dec 08, 2023
i sincerely don't know any other meaning to what you said

All i'm showing you is data shows they're not as you put it (not being immigration-friendly) and i compared to another English speaking western country which has way more landmass than all countries in the world (Except Russia) because Goke specifically mentioned " English speaking western" country

hustla:
You know what I mean but OK smiley
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by profemebee(m): 11:06am On Dec 08, 2023
Not immigrant-friendly? i beg to differ.. and i will use data to back it up

Among the core Anglosphere nations, i.e. 5 of the largest English speaking nations, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK, the UK isn't that far from countries like USA in terms of % of immigrants to population... just 1% from US..

USA 51m immigrants which accounts for 15% of the population

UK 9.4m immigrants which accounts for 14% of the population

This is despite the countries like US, Canada and Australia being Top10 largest countries in land mass in the world, 2nd, 3rd & 6th respectively.

You can find all the data you need to confirm here:

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/immigration-by-country

https://www.worldatlas.com/features/countries-by-area.html

So saying they're not immigration-friendly is wrong sha

hustla:
$ will be = 1 naira before the UK Gov will try this

It's the logical thing to do but the UK has never seemed immigrant-friendly to me unless they have less than 0 options

i'm not sure you how you understood that from what I typed

How won't doubling POF make a difference please?

Is it a revised policy? Yes or No? Isn't that what I stated?

Taal17:
Increasing proof of funds makes no difference
Unless the change of policies include confirming students actually have a certain portion of the fees available to the schools as payment eg. 1st semester paid.

Showing proof of funds doesn't mean you actually have the funds available
Students in Canada are a good percentage of asylum seekers in CA
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by profemebee(m): 10:01pm On Dec 07, 2023
Like Zahra stated.. countries are revising policies.. it isn't just the UK.. even Canada

& like i stated ... pray for changes to favor your choice and path for you and your families especially for policies we can't control..and plan accordingly for even the worst scenarios

TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by profemebee(m): 2:49pm On Dec 05, 2023
Yoooo.. u drop the most logical and non-emotional responses here.. keep doing that..

someone makes a choice.. how's that forced? lol.. nawa .. the things we read here

What we should be praying and planning for is that our choices should favor our families irrespective of the govt changes we can't control

Zahra29:
No one was forced into care. Many people e.g. with families chose the care route to avoid the cost of IHS. Many chose to prioritise a quicker /surer route to settlement over following their chosen career. Many chose care over PSW for the above reasons.
All valid choices, but they were not forced.

Truth is.. it is evidence like this and then Tiamiyu's interview with BBC that are the qualitative data findings used to further back their new migration policies..

Even if they had it in mind before the interview etc. these findings will strengthen and even increase the checks and measures to be implemented, especially as Tiamiyu is a dependent himself and is a perfect representation of the data they need.

He also needed the "fame" I guess...

We can cry and cry about the new rules, but I can't say Nigerians treat themselves better.. £68khuhhuhhuhhuhhuh?

this must be stressful, especially with the winter season already hitting us

have you paid for her the rent you owed though?

I didn't see any update on that Or might have missed it..

The deposit she has refused to give you can be used to settle part or all of the rent if you haven't paid..

I just hope your next landlord won't request for reference from your previous landlord.. they do sometimes

UniqueDext:
Guys I have decided to move out and have my peace of mind.
But my problem now is that the landlord have decided that she will not give me my deposit.
Please what are the best and fast legal way I can use to get my deposit back from her?

Also she didn't register it on any deposit scheme, how do I go about it please.

let data do the talking.. it is the best way to separate yourself from the noise.. this isn't a newspaper stand where we should be talking vibes like it is Complete Sports news..

What we discuss here impacts lives and families, and so we should be giving facts not vibes..

Thank you!

The rate at which people attacked me and my comment shocked me. I underestimated how many nigerians despised uncomfortable truth.

Someone even accused me of jealousy and hatred.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by profemebee(m): 3:43pm On Nov 28, 2023
that's for all international students right.. we are focused on a small segment .. nigerian students.. pls stay focused on the keyword

How many in that great number are Nigerians? lol

jedisco:
I know a good number of folks who went directly to Canada from Nigeria as it was the easier route for them at the time

When comparing countries immigration policies, you need to first understand the underlying drivers.

Canada is a country of 40 million that lets in over 500k people yearly. When UK ended the PSW visa years back, it was the likes of canada that reminded them the market is hotly contested.
-The US satisfies most of it's labour needs by thousands of Mexicans and South Americans trooping and has the wage advantage to also feed off the UK and EU.
-Australia sits on vast reserves suppling many raw materials to China. Just like Canada, they have the wealth to scrape from the UK and other Western nations.
-The UK is not rich enough to source talent from any English speaking Western nation. They have left the EU hence no cheap European labour. They turning to Asia and Africa is not out of want but need.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by profemebee(m): 3:35pm On Nov 28, 2023
sometimes i feel we just want to argue beer parlour gists with emotions..

How can one deny or find it hard to believe the truth that Canada is harder to get in than UK? howhuh

The requirements are so high to get PR into Canada that people with Masters etc do French certification courses just to get high scores (especially if age doesn't favour them).

Can we stop being emotional and work with data?

You also can't blame just the government alone.. you also have to blame students lying about their proof of funds, marriages, and those selling COS and scamming their fellow Nigerians...

You can also watch Border Force UK show and see how Nigerians are embarrassing themselves at both UK and Nigeria... so many episodes that will make you ashamed..

the truth is very bitter but we must swallow it to move on

People can be so evil..

I have had phone calls of strangers (Nigerians) asking if they can stay at mine just because their proof of funds never existed.. of course i didn't agree.. because i have to prioritise my family first

please lets argue with data and not emotions.. it is tiring and misleading..

I have family members and friends in Canada and so this isn't even rumors.. u cant compare migrating to Uk with migrating to Canada.. abeg lets be logical

https://businessday.ng/news/article/number-of-nigerians-moving-to-canada-drops-20-in-nine-months/

https://www.statista.com/statistics/555132/top-10-origin-countries-of-international-students-at-years-end-canada/

I also attached Nigerians with Canada PR per year

Compare that with the nos that come into the UK..

This was how Nigerians said Dubai will lose out in major revenue and will be hit when they blocked us ... meanwhile Nigeria wasn't anywhere near the top countries visiting Dubai

We seem to just live on emotions and arguments. .. no data.. thats why Nigerian FG will modify the unemployment rate to 5%... everything being emotional.. instead of us to look at the problem for what it is..

No fear whatsoever.

Finally caught up with all i have missed out on here...

Please, my fellow Nigerians, lets be careful with all the migrating without having money for Airbnb or hotel at least..

I'm tired of saying No to people when they ask if they can stay at mine..

I'm tired of looking like a bad person ....

It is really unfair.. saying No hurts a lot but i'm only trying to prevent long story later.. especially in this UK with smaller houses, cost of living, etc.

Also, it is better to say No than to promise to accommodate/support and then fail to do so... that's just evil.. Just say No from the start

It is better you read harsh responses here from people telling you the truth than to be exposed to the harsh reality of weather/financial struggle/renting issues/ etc........

Have a great week everyone

so as long as i pay back within the stipulated time with the bolded below, then i'm interest free right? thanks

Solumtoya:
Currys finance is not a credit builder debt. Use Experian to check for credit you're eligible for. There might be some low limit, high interest cards. You don't have to pay interest though.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by profemebee(m): 11:44am On Aug 31, 2023
nawa ooo.. we learn everyday, thanks..

bigtt76:
Good stuff. So even though you have the cash to pay off at once, form the habit of spending it through credits and loans just to build your score. For example using my own experience, instead of me using my debit card for regular shopping, I use my credit card and use my balance in my debit card to pay off my credit card. This way, I'm seen as having utilised credit facility and paying it off timely. Here in the youkay, credit and loans are a necessity even if you can afford to pay cash. Currys failed because no record of you having been given a credit or loan before and you paying back.

lol Master, teach me how to build the Credit report when i can't even get credit facilities... i don tire..

Lexusgs430:
Let's demystifying this credit score myth.........

You have two aspects of credit scoring - :

- CREDIT HISTORY
- CREDIT REPORT

Credit reports, is more important than credit history........

Your credit history was 999, but your credit report is 0........

Do a combination of both, but more emphasis on the latter...... 🤣😜

NB: You CANNOT build your CREDIT REPORT, without having credit facilities....... 👍🤣
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by profemebee(m): 8:04pm On Aug 30, 2023
thanks, i just checked my clearscore and i have 740/1000.. and it says it is Stable..

I don't do loans or debts as i always normally pay off once without any credit, but decided to use the Currys finance as a first-time.. and it failed..

bigtt76:
Your credit history >>>> your credit score. Credit score is only a prediction of your credit worthiness and not an actual reality of you being reliable to be afforded a loan facility, they (Bank or Currys) still have to confirm this.

Not having a loan or debt is not a good thing so to speak ....having them and paying regularly is better. Also, note that Currys (for example) may rely on other credit reports aside from Experian. I would suggest you sign up to Totally Money, Credit Karma or Clearscore to get the report from other CB.

All the best.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by profemebee(m): 11:29am On Aug 30, 2023
This credit score thing is funny...

My Experian score is 998/999, and i was still refused Currys financing service when they did a soft check.

I really don't understand why, even with over 3 years address and no loans or debts or anything..

Can anyone explain why it might have failed?

I'm asking because I hope this doesn't mean a hard credit check for a mortgage won't fail me?

dick ridinghuh

lol.. my goodness.. yet again, another emotions over logic and reality in this forum.. .

The first step to solving an issue is to first acknowledge that we have an issue at hand..

denying it or trying to be emotional will never be a good first step..

Have you ever asked why our race perform better when they leave Africahuhhuh

Having natural resources (which Africa has) means not if the natural resources can't be transformed and managed to provide value.

We are decades (x5 or x10) from being able to compete unfortunately...

truth is bitter but we have to taste it to move forward
