Way back then it used to be a Nissan 200SX, but now it will have to be a Maserati 3200GT. For everyday use, definitely an Audi A5/A6 3.0TDi
Car Talk › Re: Most Luxury: BMW Or Mercedes? by proo212(m): 11:33am On Mar 29, 2008
Of course both cars are luxury but BMWs are seen as a sporty alternative to Mercedes in markets around the world more especially in Germany. (BMW drivers have a reputation for being arrogant and stuck up) and that is the nicest way to put it grin

If you are up and coming and younger, you drove a BMW. If you are 'old rich', you drove a Mercedes. This is changing though, as Mercedes is trying to attract younger buyers (or have been attracting younger buyers for a long time now). If you notice, the designs are easier on the eyes and the cars are definitely challenging BMWs (on par) for pure driving pleasure. I personally think BMW wins in that regard but other people feel differently.

I guess Nigerians will need to see BMW in the same light (luxury, reliable and more people aspiring to own one, from base model to top end)

Maybe that is what Coscharis has been trying to do all this while

Kalmebad got it right in my opinion.

A lot of these people should not have been married to each other in the first place. Rightly or wrongly, they chose not to 'endure' anymore and be happy alone or with someone else.

Autos › Re: Progress. . . by proo212(m): 10:20pm On Feb 29, 2008
Twiddling his thumbs and waiting to see how he will fit the V8 in the A4's engine bay ;-) It should be fun and I'm not even the one doing it,

Once again, props!

Midas02,

I am more of a fan of the A6 3.0TDi myself being in Europe and all. Anytime I have to rent a car, I always insist on getting the A6. I have driven a few over the last couple of years but I had one a few months ago (S-Line and 18'' wheels). I didn't want to give it back!

I guess my question is what are you going to do about the flared rear arches? Are you going to cut the flared arches out of the estate body panel?
Family › Re: Visa Lottery Reveals Wife's Infidelity by proo212(m): 4:19pm On Jan 11, 2008
The children should not be made to suffer for what happened. It is not their fault. As much as you try to be objective, one cannot help but be sad and angry at the betrayal. Some people will say I will love the children just the same after all, I considered them my children from when they were born.

Others will simply walk away. I personally wouldn't. I'm not in that situation and I say it as an outsider but God help me to make the right decision if it ever happens to me. I wouldn't walk away from them. I don't know if the woman and I will be together again but I cannot break the bond that I have with the children.

I for once agree with Almondjoy on this. There are lots of fathers who are taking care of other peoples children. Sadly one only finds out in cases like this. This isn't Maury Povich saying 'you are not the father'

I wouldn't particularly blame just the women because men also have children outside their marriages. It sucks either way you look at it but a man gets away with his philandering if he has the resources to take of both sets of children.

My own beef is that I guess some of the women who are quick to label men as cheats are not so clean/careful after all.

The only magazines I ever buy are car magazines both in German and English as I have been into cars since I was a kid. But I am no Engineer nor do I work with cars, just very passionate about them. I guess that is where Siena comes in. From what I gather he also works on/with them. You cannot beat that!

I constantly look forward to his posts

I don't miss TopGear, Fifth Gear, Vroom Vroom, MotorVision (German), AutoMotor Und Sport (German)

Internet Sites that I visit constantly/prefer. I am sure there better sites but these are enough or I might get the sack from work for spending too much time on these sites

TopGear.com, AutoExpress.co.uk, Autoblog.com, Motorauthority.com

@The Game.

What is your driving style like? Are you stuck in traffic most of the time? That will increase your consumption if its stop start traffic.

I'm thinking in Lagos you cannot get away from traffic. One the highway the consumption eases if you are at a steady speed.

I get between 11 and 13 litres to 100Km in city driving in 320 V6 CLK. When I'm on the highway doing a steady 130/140 I get between 8.7 and 9 litres for 100km.

Fair enough, where I live in Germany, heavy traffic is virtually non existent compared to Lagos. If I drive my car everyday in stop/start traffic and rev hard before each gear change, I am sure my car will use up to and even more than 20 litres for every 100km.

But I have been known to have light foot grin

Autos › Re: How Fast Can U Go? by proo212(m): 8:28pm On Dec 13, 2007
Surely this depends on a lot of factors.

The size of the tyre has nothing to do with it. The speed rating of the tyre is perhaps more important. For the speeds you are thinking of doing I am assuming that the tyres on your car can comfortably accommodate such speeds. Check you tyres for the speed rating to be on the safe side. But on another note if you have a tyre on a 13' wheel, you probably will not be in a very powerful car capable of very high speeds anyway. There are obviously exceptions to that rule. Yours probably comes with a tyre with rating in bold.

Travel › Re: Tourist Visit To Arochukwu by proo212(m): 2:24pm On Dec 12, 2007
I remember going to Arochukwu way back in 85 or 86 on school excursion. Those were the days! Even back then I was amazed at the history that was visible. We also were hosted by the Eze. The roads were bad then because I remember vividly our school bus trying negotiate a bridge when we got there.

But all in all I'm glad we explored a bit. There's soo much to see and do in Nigeria it's unbelievable.

@Mr Dis Guy,

Good ideas but how do you police zero tolerance? How do you enforce that someone whose licence has been taken away cannot get behind the wheel? Can you issue a warrant for an arrest for someone who cannot be traced? He has no bonafide address we just know he lives in "Ketu" area

If every address is in a database we can start from there apart from that I don't see it happening

Have you been to Germany before to conclude that they're racist? Or is this just what you hear?

There is racism in every country. Germany can be an easy punching bag because of what happened years and years ago. Of course there will be discrimination if you look different to the local population. There is racism in Nigeria (tribalism).

Sweden that you are anxious to find out info also has some racism. I have never lived in Sweden so I cannot say that it's much better than Germany. There's good infrastructure and a good social state. I am by no means defending Germany but having lived here for 8 years, there's good and bad.

I don't believe Sweden is a hustling country. If you believe the German language is difficult, I can't wait to see how you will survive in Sweden. Because to live a decent life there you have to speak the language. I'm sure you can get by in English but not many doors will open if you don't learn the language.

Car Talk › Re: Rover! Rover! Rover! by proo212(m): 6:52pm On Dec 04, 2007
Siena is probably the best to answer your question as he deals with the mechanics of these cars but I believe Hondas and the equivalent Rover cars have issues with selecting reverse gear. I think this a known Honda issue but I have never heard of the gearbox failing though
Autos › Re: Fuel Economy Of Powerbikes by proo212(m): 11:59am On Dec 04, 2007
These bikes should average between 3 to 5 litres for 100Km. Your Toyota 1.6 litre engine will average between 7 to 9 litres for 100Km perhaps even more if you're stuck in traffic half the time.

But ultimately depends on the bike in question.
Car Talk › Re: What Type Of Engine Is This(viperman, Ur Comments Pls) by proo212(m): 2:51pm On Dec 03, 2007
I would say 9 times out of 10 it is a VTEC with a single cam. 2001 Honda Accord LX. The DX uses the normal non VTEC SOHC engine and the EX and LX use a SOHC VTEC engine especially from 98 - 02. I read my reply again and I'm not even sure if I answered your question! shocked

Engines have inlet and exhaust valves. These inlet valves let air into the engine and the exhausdt/outlet valves expel the combusted air when the spark plugs have ignited the fuel and air mixture. Some cars have 2 valves per cylinder (one inlet and one outlet), some have 3 vales (2 inlet and one outlet), in recent times most manufacturers have gone for 4 valves per cylinder (2 inlet and 2 outlet). Cars with 16v badging are the obvious ones. These valves are lifted and closed with camshafts. Some engines apply Single Overhead Camshafts (SOHC) and some engines apply Double Overhead Camshafts (DOHC)

The valve timing (opening and closing) sequence, how long the valves are opened for before they are closed. The length of time of opened or closed valves is indicative of how much air is allowed into the cylinders to be burned. Hence the other denotation of variable valve timing.

The SOHC engine uses the single camshaft to lift and close the valves while the DOHC uses one bank of camshaft for low RPMs and uses the other bank for high RPMs.

In my understanding the art of optimising the opening and closing of these valves to achieve better performance from an engine of a certain displacement without turbo or supercharging. Hondas are known for their screaming engines. The VTEC engines are known to develop more power at higher rev ranges compared to normal or induced engines depending on if they are optimsed for performance or economy. The Honda S2000 for instance has a red line of 9000 rpm and pulls harder from 6000 rpm when other engines will have have run out of breath.

Honda pioneered this technology but you now have other manucturers with different flavours of the same. Mitsubishi (MiVECS), Toyota (VVT-i), BMW (Valvotronic)

I'm no Engineer so I'm sure other Nairalanders with better knowledge can add or even disagree with me.
Politics › Re: Stop Praying, Fight For Your Rights: Archbishop Tells Nigerians by proo212(m): 7:26pm On Dec 01, 2007
This is one of the topics close to my heart. According to a poster, prayer has its place and yes I believe the prayers have kept the country together.

But we as a people need to get off our backsides and do something about the rot and decay in the country. It's like a married couple praying for compatibility. That can never work.

The million man march was successful. I don't know if any concensus was reached after it happened but it went through the process of organisation all the way to implementation/completion. (And I thought as a people we couldn't organise anything to save our lives)

(Wishful thinking) but a million people storming Abuja or wherever demanding change surely will send a message to the ruling class that these people mean what they say.

This woman should ask for a divorce.

I pity her if she cannot afford to stand on her own two feet cause she is more or less bleeped. The typical response of 'talk to him/sex him well' was more or less expected anyways.

The husband cheated so many times. Twice is too many.

You wouldn't be saying that if she was the one that was cheating,

Bring on the flaming.
