I have come to the conclusion that German family reunion process is really dependent on how ever the embassy wants to handle each person's case . Even with my preaproval already sent from Germany via post and email before my interview, my spouse has already registered our marriage in Germany and was formerly on blue card but now on Permanent residency,I was still asked to pay for lawyers verification and A1. I was really hoping all this will shorten the process.

Your husband is now on permanent residency is the reason the requirements changed for you.

Four months ago, I traveled from Germany to Den Haag to renew my passport, prior to booking an appointment and traveling I asked the embassy on WhatsApp if it was possible to pay and do a same day collection as I wanted to pick it up immediately. The CS personnel behind the account said yes.

I went to the embassy and then was told I would not be able to pick it up as they’ve got issues with their system. It’s been four months of constant calling, pleading and begging the embassy to please release my passport or let me pick it up in Berlin but they claim this isn’t possible. They don’t even pick my calls anymore, emails to the embassy and ambassador’s office are unanswered.

I called Berlin explaining my situation and they want 450 euros to create a new application and give me the passport

In the four months, my residence permit has expired, I cannot renew my residency as it’s waiting on my Nigerian passport. My bank accounts have been limited. I’m pretty much illegal in Germany as it is and this situation has been causing so much stress on my mental health.

@justwise if you could move this to FP please so people that don’t want to wait one year for their passports be aware.

Don’t be deceived or try to deceive anyone. If you plan to have your life in Germany, you MUST learn German. And by the way, I have only been in Germany for 14 months and my language level is okay. My aim is to apply for a permanent residency before I spend 3 years here in Germany, therefore I’m currently attending a politics class. Don’t screw your chances!!

Like I said, it's not a do or die if you work in an IT, I only applied because my foreign officer only gave me an official signed stuff, because according to him, it's better I do it because it will be subsidized for me, and lots of benefits to get citizenship faster.

Basically, there's google translate and deepl which is better than Google translate.

Also, as a blue card holder, you will get a permanent residence after 33 months with A1, I have A1 certificate but can't speak jack. As a German university graduate, you will get a permanent residence after 24 months with no reference to language. I have both.

You should have a language skill in the country you live in, same as Czech or Netherlands where nearly everyone speaks English...but it's not a do or die matter.

I have a friend who is a senior software engineer, works for FAANG, but can't speak German, he lives in Berlin and here for almost 6years.

If you don’t have skills, German is a must… you can't do warehouse jobs without German except Amazon.

I know nearly all German laws without speaking German, it’s easy these days.

I only support the user who said learning German is not a do-or-die matter, I know some of my classmates in the university that focused on German instead of skills and internships, but they are not still employed.

Learning German is necessary if you plan to live longer in Germany, but it's not like you'll die without German, and it's not like knowing German will get you a job that your skills do not qualify for.

Learn German, but don't be scared... It's not a 1 or 0 situation

Even if where you work they communicate in English, is your Arbeitsvertrag also written in English ? Have you been to the government offices? Did you find it difficult understanding the documents you were given to sign?

You are right, but to correct you. My job contract is in English, and yes, it's a German company. I also previously worked for a German company when I was a student, the job contract is in German and English.

I studied in Germany, and the Ausländer officer speaks English with me right from day one of my student permit, to blue card. I've been in Germany for almost 3.5 years, I can't speak German.

It's not a do or die, if you work in IT... My company emails, meeting and documentation is 100 percent in English.

But I have applied for an integration course, though; I intend to start in October.

I got this mail above, please is any temporary digital insurance i apply whereby I can pay fee when i get to Germany? I understand most of the insurance will start running even while one is still in Nigeria

Apply for DaK, you won't be required to pay the contribution until you get to Germany. I did mine when I was in Nigeria.

Must I have 6 months left before I can apply for renewal? Can I do it when I have 8 months left?

A friend of mine is in dire need of appointment for a Schengen Visa at the German Embassy
He was invited for a programme in Germany by a University
He already filled his visa form online as required, all the necessary documents has been arranged by him.
His host is paying for the trip and already sent him the hotel booking, airline ticket and health insurance.
He has been trying the German Visa portal for over 3 weeks now to secure appointment date for visa interview and no appointment for July and August!
His programme will take place first week of september.

Please can anybody be of help or point us in the right direction?
