ikeja hotels gained max today, 14 deals, easimoni and pumping, why do i think u are the ones buying? grin

But the real story of the day is ubn and wema trading over 10 billion naira each.
I suspect an interim result is in the works for UBN. Timing is everything. We should have caught on to this by now.  sad

Ikeja Hotels - Wow. I was still expecting a drop actually so I'm yet to buy any.

easimoni got this one spon on. The market became rational sooner than later. 160,800 units only which is just about half a million bucks. The volume is still very low. Let's see how it plays out.

Hi Pumping, Easimoni,RoughCut, Wanaj0 e.t.c.

A friend of mine just of recent changed his broker. Through his new broker, he has already applied for a new CSCS# but the number is not yet ready and he want to buy some shares from fidelity bank (IPO/PO)

This is the question:Can he use his  old CSCS # that he was using when he was with his former broker and use  the name of the new broker as his Stockbroker on his Ipo/po application forms?. What will be the implication of this action?.

Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Peace.
This is what I think will work but I am not quite sure.

The new broker should open a new CSCS number but retain the same CHN number used by the old broker. So your new CSCS number is now linked to your existing CHN number.

In this case, your friend can use the same CHN number on the PO form but with the name of the new broker.

If the new broker opens a new CHN number instead, then then the new CSCS number will linked to the old CHN and your friend will need the old broker to execute orders on the stocks when listed.

Red Star Express - Looking Good

------------------------------------
The Board of Directors of Red Star Express PLC, a leading indigenous courier and cargo company, has declared dividend of N113.19million to the shareholders at the Company's 14th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Lagoon Restaurant, Lagos. The dividend translates to 22 Kobo per share and would be paid to shareholders whose names were on the Company's Register as at March 31, this year, after deducting withholding tax.

Speaking at the event, the Red Star Express Board Chairman, Dr. Muhammad Koguna said, "We have recorded a tremendous and stable growth in our business transactions. We have fulfilled all the requirements for the listing and conversion of our company to public limited company (PLC). We have also increased authorized share capital, private placement of 75 Million shares to increase the number of shareholders."

He explained that apart from listing the shares of the company in the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) the organization has recorded a remarkable turnover increase of 26 per cent and moved from N2.249 billion to N2.836 billion this year.

A DPS of 22k per share will could mean a trailing EPS of at least 30k per share and we could be looking at a trailing PE below 13.

Does anyone have the prospectus for the private placement? Fedex seems to have a direct interest here.

Pumping777,

Why have you been ignoring my shout out.

Question

What stocks should one buy that will profit one in 2008 first quarter.

Thanks
Not at all. Na work overload. Since my employer is not paying me to trade in stocks, I have been wise to respond to heavy work call grin

Thanks easimoni. I see you have already given a cue and I can't add any more. Of all the factors that drive a stock, my strongest are the fundamentals, and PE ratio is the one that influences me the most. Other fundamentals and sentiments can come later.

If you want to be dropped a particular stock from me, then for your convenience I will say the heaviest stock in my portfolio is Lawunion though it has a slightly higher PE than Crusader. I still buy if the price goes anywhere near N3 flat.

I hope to remain solvent enough for the market to be come rational in 2007 and give me good returns. So I cannot say this will happen in the 1st quarter at all and in fact I doubt it. I am ready to wait longer than that.

Red Star will be listed tomorrow. Place order and hope you get to buy. tongue

Wema seems to have lost steam. No 5% gain today.

Chellarams is still on the move.

AP result not that impressive
Wema - I think the mind set is that it does on TS tomorrow. We'll see how far this is true.

Chellerams - Funny thing is that it lost around 5% yesterday and I was thinking it had lost steam.

AP - Just on target for projected year end earnings but I know the price will still move upwards even if temporarily.

Your analysis is spot-on. I believe they'll make ~N610M for the FY which is ~35k. Are you willing to risk the stock falling to N3.20? After all, the PO was at N3. It lost the full 5% today but I'm not sure that'll continue into next week.
I expect a further drop but I won't say down to N3.20. The daily volumes and Naira value is still relatively low for 1.73 outstanding shares. I know most of these will be locked away, but I think there may still be a chunk of PP investors trying to offload.

Ikeja Hotels -  I think it was Wanaj0 that made a comment about these two companies having the same management so I decided to check the numbers. I don't like what I see but let me get views in the house.

Price     Share Out    CAP     Proj Pat      Pro P/E   Current P/E

IKEJA HOTEL PLC                                        3.90 1.73 6.76 0.80 8.49 12.85

TOURIST COMPANY OF NIGERIA PLC         2.81     1.61 4.53 0.02 226.47 15.10

TCofN has a trailing P/E of 15.10 but based on the Half year result now reported, the projected PE is now 226.47!! A company that declared a FY PAT of 0.3B in 2006 has now declared a Half Year PAT of 0.01B!!

This is not a good sign at all. I'd hate to see such drastic turnaround for Ikeja Hotels.

So I think like easimoni said, if you're thinking of this, you have to be ready for quick in, quick out - short term.

I smell what happens to many small companies in Nigeria. Management charges expenses excessively to the company accounts (travel expenses, children's school fees, medicals etc) till the company appears not to be making any profit. Investors lose interest in the company eventually, and the Management buys almost everyone out. Over time, no matter how poorly the company is doing, the price is really not affected because the shares are now so illiquid.

This is not to scare anyone away. I'm also joining the fray for what it's worth but I will be toning down my commitment.

@All gurus,
Please I bought UBN @36 and hoping to sell beyond 50. is it likely to hit beyond 50 before the 22nd of Nov?
UBN is not likely at all to hit N50. Before the rise today, the price was generally falling last week.

Don't be deceived by the sudden gain in price today. It will likely be short lived.

I put ALL my units on sale on Friday but it did not sell because of my offer price. With the rise in price today, I was able to sell ALL.

Wema gained 5% today but closed with 90M shares on offer? It led the NSE on the net offer table. huh I guess the rational explanation is a lot of people are selling but they'll only sell at the full 5% gain for the day. Maybe the run doesn't last the rest of the week.
Except there is suspension, I don't see anything stopping the price hits N18.

It could be investors with no clue of the half year results.
