TBH, I am a muslim, but Seun was actually being logical with the questions, he claimed equality for everyone and he asked why not thesame for the other gender? He could explain the reasons based on his own understanding of religion, but its not tenable because he claimed everyone is equal in the mosque.
I will be called a Yoruba muslim shaa, so I understand

Like the guy who was rebuked by Seun said, this is about power and the other talk is about religion, it will be highly hypocritical to try and equate the 2.

Gender has its place in religion and society and so does authority, putting them on the same pedestal is comparing apples and guavas.

That in itself was smoke screen. It wasn't his greatest test, he was using it to shield himself off responsibility. Other governors have dealt with worse and still had something to show for.

I shudder when I see people showering encomiums on the guy.

You produce what we can yes, but who produce it matters... You can't destrupt an already established market structure... It would fail

That is probably why most government interventions failed ,

And what are you saying?

Middlemen should be made the leaders of a market trying to emerge?

The term middleman in economics isn't a good one, they are short of being called saboteurs.

You think a manufacturer without a distribution network would succeed? When there is an alternative?

You obviously don't own a business it's obvious

To support the naira, we produce what we can - meaning we pay more attention to factors that aid production, not try to make importers/middlemen (who in an ideal world we should be cutting off) the drivers of the economy.

Every 100 level economics student knows this.

Besides, who said manufacturers can't have their own distribution networks? Every major manufacturer does.

Sometimes, remove the tribal cap and put on a thinking one.

Remittance in naira will only bastardize the currency further, having remittances come in in USD will reduce the pressure on naira and give the CBN some respite though I doubt the quoted figure of $2b monthly.

Try that n watch remittances reduce by 80%

Most remittances now come in through the crypto currency channel, easier , faster, and cheaper

The only way to ease pressure is why working with importers provide them credit to manufacture what they import in Nigeria, don't give credit to none importers ooh

Criteria should be evidence of minimum of 7 years importation of that product, technical know how, well established distribution channels that can support the factory via guaranteed customers

But na they don't want to do they maybe simple because the importers are mostly from a region they don't like

Typical thinking of a low budget trader.

If import substitution is to be the alternative, importers and traders should be the least concerned and the last to be consulted.

Nigeria's major problem has been and is still manufacturing and the factors and pillars supporting it, to grow the naira, we take care of needs that can be taken care of by people concerned - the producers, not the middlemen.

Very very.

The O&G industry is one that depends a lot on infrastructure (remote infrastructure such as remotely piloted/operated vehicles - IoT), produces a huge chunk of data - (Data science, ML/AI) operates distributed centres and offices - (cloud computing), invest and rely heavily on infrastructure - cyber security.

You need Lagos, Lagos don't need you. If you think am lying try and see, the state will be very happy if you leave, because you are creating space for more development, those market do not fit Lagos state mega city plan.

Is exactly the same with Nigeria, the nee the country not the other way round.

Given a separate country today will spell doom for them for many decades, they are confined to a small space with low population and where everyone is competing against his neighbor next door to sell the same product they don't produce to a market over saturated.

Besides, how good is cyber security in relation to job availability, technical knowledge needed for entry into the field and engagements please?

EmperorHadrian2:

Now you are ready for your next red pill.

The most powerful arsenal the US has is its ability to weaponise the USD.

The USD is a debt instrument forced on the world .

It's the reason the US remains the largest consumer market without a production base to compensate for it.

Since 1945, the US held the largest debt to nations on earth owing to lend lease agreements to Britain and the USSR.

The US also financed post WW2 reconstruction on the condition that all western nations must deposit their gold reserves in the US Treasury in exchange for debt instruments aka the US fiat dollar.

Then in the 70's , Nixxon pulled the plug on the USD being backed by gold and since then the instrument is only backed by US military might. You refuse to trade in dollars, you get replaced asap.

Imagine having a printing machine to print infinite number of paper money and having everyone you interact with forced to take it in exchange for goods and services.

That's the US liquidity based scam economy that uses fiat currency and threat of war to force nations under their vassalage.

Qaddafi wanted out and promoted a gold backed currency and he was whacked off.

Hitler wanted nothing to do with the Jewish middle men and designed a currency backed by German production.

Putin is pushing a commodity based financial system away from London and New York and has the resources to back it.

100%.

Dem say go school, you say na scam. grin

What the report is saying in other words is that every asset and income of these two is based on naira, the calculation of their assets by Forbes and Bloomberg however is done in USD - meaning whenever their assets are to be quoted in USD, the value is exchanged with the prevailing naira-dollar rate.

Other words, you have $1000 before 2019 when naira was say 500, this makes the value of your wealth N500,000. Now naira is 1000/$, this makes the value of your $1000 N1,000,000 without you doing anything to increase or decrease it.

Go school.

I am not disputing the fact that some may need to repatriate their profits earned here. I am just not carried away not to know that the interest of my own country comes first.

Airlines sell tickets in naira and want to repatriate in usd, in that case, they will wait until we have enough forex or take the naira like Russia did with EU. Emefiele is generally seen not to be doing things right but when he was encouraging them to invest in Nigerian export and keep 100% of the export proceeds overseas, he was doing protectionism not running free market.

The Asians doing business in Nigeria innovated and were able to move their profits out and that's why you do not see them complaining like those from the west who mostly want to come in briefcase to Nigeria to pack forex back home.

For years now, most of the cargo planes bringing goods to Nigeria go back empty and not until NAHCO got an Indian MD did these airlines realise they can partner with NAHCO to take Nigerian goods for export and since our CBN policy under Emefiele allows you to keep your export proceeds, they get paid from the export proceeds of NAHCO.

In business, if you don't innovate you die. Nigeria will not be a dumping ground and we will not open our stock exchange to unfettered free entry and free exit of hot money or proceeds of illicit funds.

They should bring in the forex as FDI like they were forced to do by Emefiele then grow and create value here, sell and repatriate real profits home.

Not for them to come in, pump Zenith bank share price to N120 from N30 then dump on Nigerians and take the naira capital gain to CBN , get USD and repatriate, creating no value for us and our economy.

Paper economy is something that western countries have mastered. No real value created, just hype and noise and cash out - leaving their victims in dire straits.

Yes, it is true that Nigerians hardly pay taxes but if they do, it cannot strengthen the naira.

Let us cut the chase. It is a matter of supply and demand. They cannot satisfy the demand for foreign currencies.

Yes, it is what the printed paper can buy that increases the demand for foreign goods and services. What is wrong with our goods and services after 60 years?

The only time we had one naira to one and a half American dollars or when we had pound to British pound was when control was in place.

We must curb DEMAND for foreign currencies used to buy used goods, pins, pencils, foreign cotton materials has killed our clothing industries. Our London, Ijebu, Okrika tailors and designers are not replaced.

We are choking on foreign currencies to pays taxes on humongous houses and foreign schools where our children learn different accents or culture disrespecting ours.

No, reduce demand for foreign goods taking chunk of the forex, import substitution gives the country a better economy, jobs, more taxes and increase the value of the local currency.

Politics / Re: “Naira Floating Is Anti-north”. A Northerner Claims. (picture) by Raheeqilmaktoom: 3:10pm On Jun 15, 2023
Penguin2:
This northern girl on Twitter has just criticized the floating of the Naira as an anti-northern agenda or policy.

But would you blame her?

The disparity in exchange rate has been to the advantage of northern Bureau De Change (BDC) operators who source their dollars from the CBN, sometimes below official rate, and sell to the public at black market rate.

These guys dominated that section of financial business for decades and constituted themselves as cabals against every efforts that had hitherto been made to unify exchange rate in country.

For them, Nigerian economy can cripple, due to low Foreign Direct Investment occasioned by the multiple exchange rate regime, as long as they are feeding fat.

I don’t like Tinubu’s face, but his calls so far has been commendable. The leeches on Nigerian economy need to start being poured some insecticide so that Nigeria can survive.

1. I doubt if that lady knows where northern Nigeria is, talkless of being a Northerner.

2. Pre 2017, the difference between the two markets has been not so huge, yet, many northerners (and others) have been engaged in the business long before that time.

It's sad that instead of genuine introspection about why others abandon you like plagues, that path you have chosen is going further low sowing and promoting enmity. It won't be long before you start shouting again why everybody hates you.

3. There has been lame attempts by 'the online mob' to tag any action by the president as anti north, probably that reduces their sadness.

Northerners worked for Asiwaju and gave him votes that his own people didn't even when 2 northern sons were on the ballot, this demonstrates the belief and hope they repose in the man and so far, there has been no disappointments.

Find better ways of managing your anger, anxiety and sadness apart from roping in northerners into any failure you encounter - we are not interested and don't give a hoot about you.
