Am touched, this has melted my heart... When my girlfriend, a staunch legionary told me she would spend today doing something like this, I was Mad, cause I had today planned out for us. But that anger had died down now. This are indeed the people that need the love... They are far from love, far from hope, far from joy. If one day can be spent making them happy, it's worth it, it's divine..

Cheers OP. God bless you.

Viewers discretion next time pls

Naaaaa. Nothing too discreet in these pics. The residents so neat, clean, well dressed and behaved.

I learnt the art of extreme love from the gesture of a neighbor who could have chosen to be in Paris today but chose to show love to the poor. I was also thrilled at the number of people who go out of their way to cater for these people under God's purview.

#Valentine

Babe, Bukky is going to Makoko for Valentine, will you like to follow her?, my wife queried as she approached my lazy self on the bed. The time was 9.00am. Praise and worship had started at the adjoining Church.

Sunday mornings are my lazy mornings to spread, snooze and roll all over (prefer to attend the 3rd Service). As soon as I got the message, I sauntered out of my semi-slumber.

Bukky is our neighbor who engages in humanitarian activities regularly.

In a jiffy, I was done and ready to join the waiting crew of Madam Bukky, her brother, sister and Mr Yinka, the hired driver. I crashbombed their planned humanitarian visit. Lolol.

Bukky and her siblings had gone to the market the day before and bought gifts for the less privileged. Instead of her regular Makoko, her destination this time was "Destitute's Village", Okobaba.

With Mr Yinka behind the wheels and a bit of direction from locals at Ebutte Meta, we arrived the Village at 10.30am.

It was a sight to behold. There were over 500 persons in the very clustered Square. The residents were aptly arranged according to demography - Elders, Men, Women, Children and Toddlers with their mums. I was wowed.

From the size of the car we brought, they deciphered we were there for the kids. The jostle, the rush, the chase for a vantage position on the queue by kids between 3 and 6 years were very touching. Those who couldn't walk, crawled. Mothers pushed their toddlers forward. Hmmmmm.

I had a flash back to last night when at a waterside joint in Ikoyi last night, a fully lit cruise yacht was in the Valentine frenzy fully packed with extremely wealthy people. Here are these ones less than 20km away living in extreme poor conditions.

I'm inspired to visit these people living under God's purview more. Met a foreign National who said he arrived early to arrange the residents, and was awaiting his friends and a trailer load of gifts for these underprivileged people and I asked where our own people were.

Enjoy the pictures. Happy Valentine!

At Op,
You should have just defended the removal of the monthly fixed charge only. There is no advantage in the analysis you provided to defend the new tariff.

According to you, a customer that buys electricity worth of 5000 naira gets 217units and 284 units in the new and old tariffs respectively. With respect to the above, the old tariff is better because it gives more units for the same amount of money. You erred when you had to consider the cost of the fixed charge twice (removing it in cash and in unit). That is very illogical.

My concern on this issue is what necessitated the outrageous over 53% increment. Is it that electricity was poorly priced. If it was, when did the investors notice this? Or is it that the cost of electricity supply has suddenly skyrocketed? Anything short of this means the Government is conniving with electricity suppliers to milk its citizenry.

I think the theme of the OP's post is in order.

I once travelled for 3 months last year. On my return, I decided to purchase units for my prepaid meter. I was outraged when I was charged fixed charge for 3 months without any use of energy.

I like the new tariff regime. Just like call units, pay as you go. It is imperative everyone gets a prepaid meter and a policy criminalizing the tampering of the meter to bypass payment.

Power supply has also been consistent. I am willing to support any efforts to maintain and sustain this.

How about she's on the side of the country. I think that's a concept most of you find hard to process. People think you have to pick a politician or party and stick to it even when they go wrong.

It takes a nominal modicum of basic intelligence to decipher this. Unfortunately, those whose conscience have been sold to excessive bile and peevishness will always find it difficult to comprehend.
Business / Re: Pls, What Does It Mean To Devalue Naira? by realborn(m): 8:50pm On Feb 02, 2016
Let me try and help:

To devalue the Naira means deliberate downward adjustment of the Naira by the statutory agency responsible, against other key currencies.

Because we are an import dependent country, the process will lead to inflation or higher prices for goods and services whilst income may remain fixed.

For example, if you earn N200,000.00, it will equate to $1,000 at an official "Dutch Auction System" rate of N200/$. When devalued to an assumed rate of N300/$, your income becomes less than $700.

Now, if all goods, consumables and services we require are produced locally, there will be no cause for alarm as the true worth of your money will be compared against the local currency, Naira. It also favours export to other countries. It also encourages investors.

Unfortunately, the devaluation of the Naira will bring untold hardship until Nigeria becomes more export dependent and diversifies her economy to bring in foreign earnings away from crude oil.

What the CBN is doing is to keep dollar supply at the benchmark rate of N199/$ to key stakeholders whose demand have major impact on the economy. The skyrocketing rate at the BDCs is based on forces of demand & supply for retail goods and purposes, which in my opinion, we can set aside or reduce appetite for at these trying times.

Going by the vindictive manner Jonathan's govt is been run down by Buhari, I have no doubt the ex president would be regretting not flouting electoral laws in retaining power in 2015.

Please do not tell me you would have supported the ex-President "flouting" electoral laws? If yes, then that is not an appropriate thing to share on a public forum.

We cannot be morally deprived and expect Nigeria to be great.

No politician is worth taking a bullet for. They are all baggers and thieves. Some are excessively greedy!

Punishing graft offenders is not exclusive to Nigeria but selecting and limiting it to just one administration is illogical, that's my firm believe.

Moreover, financial embezzlement is not the only form of corruption. Attempting to alter a national budget secretly and causing its disappearance from the National Assembly is also corruption. Increasing feeding allocation from N500m to N1.7b in the presidency is corruption. Proposing to spend about N700m on Website update is corruption laden. Sanctioning a TSA policy that brewed N8b fraud only to deny it when it became public knowledge is also corruption. Allocating over N50b to Information Ministry is nothing but preparing a fertile ground for corruption. And finally, allowing State fund to be spent on one's presidential election and feigning ignorance is a height of corruption. No present Nigerian politician (including Buhari) has the bragging right to condemn others for any corruption allegation. That's my conclusion.

Starting with the last administration in the fight against corruption is the most logical thing to do because the records are fresh.

In construction, we have what we call defects notification/liability period, that is a year after practical completion or hand/take over of a project by the client/employer. During this period of usually a year, all defects are brought to the attention of the contractor to rectify.

The inability of Jonathan to probe his predecessor also confirms his aiding and abetting of graft and shows his insincerity to uphold the tenets of the office he held. Notwithstanding, we all should not relent to charge Buhari's government to probe all known alleged financial misdeeds of governments preceding Jonathan. Starting with Jonathan's government is a welcome idea.

I am equally disappointed at the content of the presented budget. I condemn the irregularities in all terms. We must all continue to express our angst until suitable amends are made.

My objective views!

GEJ made a big mistake, it amazes me how he relinquished power so easily. Now, the people whom he sacrificed for are opening their cavity infested mouths to insult him. This is why African leaders do not relinquish power easily, they know what faith will befall them in the hands of the new leader.

African leaders do not relinquish power easily because they are overtly corrupt. Thus, if an ex African President relinquishes power or concedes defeat, and afterwards gets mentioned in tales of corruption (innocent until proven guilty), should we close our eyes and act like nothing happened? If we do that, then all cases of corruption and financial crimes should be struck out in all Courts of Law in Nigeria.

My 2 cents...

The monumental fraud had been there from the birth of Nigeria as a nation. Even Buhari's regime of 1984/85 was not exempted from the rot. This govt should have preoccupied itself with promulgating policies that ensure accountability and zero tolerance for corruption going forward. Singling out Jonathan for crucifixion could be counter productive. One Million stolen in 1983 is equivalent to N1billion today.

I think fighting corruption is a method of promulgating policies against graft. Our economy is struggling today because past administrations recklessly plundered our wealth. I am so so sure that Nigeria has lost over $100b to leadership induced theft in the past. If we had this in our kitty, will we be struggling with sustaining obligations for for our forex? Will we be struggling with infrastructure deficits?

I am very worried at the approach undertaken by the new administration to tackle the effect of our dwindling revenue from crude oil, our main export commodity. I also think there are several things wrong with the presented Budget.

However, it is imperative to expose and punish those who have stolen from us. It is only sensible to start with the immediate past administration.
