Politics / Re: Governor Ambode Vs Governor Fashola by realborn(m): 6:11am On May 18, 2017
The OP has succinctly made an apt conclusion about the duo of Fashola and Ambode. No need for further harangue.

I sincerely believe Fashola's landmark efforts were very strategic and extremely impactful. For example, the introduction of the Falomo Ramp and the Lekki Ikoyi Link Bridge, addressed over 60% of the VI traffic issues; amazing! He equally developed State IPP's for Govt. infrastructure. I learnt Ogun is taking a cue from this model. He improved from where Tinubu stopped in deference to upgrading several Lagos Roads. Several Healthcare Projects. Implementing the BRT concept; Lagos HOMS etc. Fashola left indelible marks. smiley

Ambode, hmmmmmm;
I am so loving him. My summary of his style - "quick great strategic wins". Obviously less resources expended tremendous impact. He is obviously a great planner with an amazing team of experts. I am so loving him. I do not think he has surpassed Fashola in any form. However, there is a huge potential to transform Lagos over and above his predecessors' feats within the same period of 8 years as used by these predecessors. smiley

I think Tinubu is still the greatest of the 3. He created the footprints and blueprint for today's growth in Lagos. He wrote the script for the huge IGR that has benefitted his successors. He started the infrastructure revolution. His ingenuity is our success story in Lagos. Above all he gave us the gift of Fashola and Ambode smiley

I am happy to celebrate Lagos at 50.

Farewell Koro but APC is a sinking ship...

The battle to reclaim Nigeria from the vagabonds in power continues

Perhaps better to jump from a sunk ship to a sinking ship.

The gale of defections from PDP to APC (despite the supposed chants of poor performance) by supposed stalwarts duly reflects how shallow the foundation of the PDP is to withstand any form of challenge.

Tinubu stood firm as an opposition leader for 16 years.

If this tale is true, it will be a demonstration of dearth of ideology and a big shame for APC to accept Obanikoro, one of the most useless Ministers under the very inept Jonathan.

I found this article very very insightful on the subject. undecided

Everyone including the Apostle may wish to read for further understanding.

If the content of the article is correct, then Apostle is far from the truth. David's mother is also the mother of his older brothers. The untoward treatment meted to David in his father's house is due to other reasons other than his mother being a supposed "harlot" his father fancied and impregnated without paying dowry. lipsrsealed

If the $43 million found in an apartment raided by EFCC operatives few days ago in Osborne Rd Lagos State truly belongs to former Governor Rotimi Amaechi as alleged by FFK and co

https://www.nairaland.com/3741152/femi-fani-kayode-rotimi-amaechi-owns

Then I would expect the Government of Rivers State to apply for that money to be refunded to the coffers of the State Government since it could only have been proceeds of corruption against the Government and good people of Rivers State perpetrated by the former governor and his cohorts.

My take though...!!!

In addition, he should be given the Yakubu treatment too in multiples of 5.

If not, then FFK & Lere should be given Madam Kemi's treatment in multiples of a dozen.

However, it is pertinent to unravel the owner and genuineness of the source of the money.

I completely disagree with the reasons you have stated. undecided sad

From your posit, the Police also has no reason to enforce the law nor arrest anyone because the general disposition is that most of the officers are corrupt.

The courts will also have no business addressing and deciding cases because there are alleged cases of graft.

Yes the House of Reps may not be a court, however, it has a responsibility within the tenets of the constitution to carry out its obligations accordingly. Last time I checked, other than taking disciplinary actions against its own members (perhaps right or wrong), the HoR has not convicted anyone.

The fact that no ex-President has been summoned does not imply that it is appropriate if pertinent.

If Mr Jonathan is clean, he should graciously honor any invitation extended to him. This is the most reasonable thing to do.

We can't aspire to be leaders and openly promote impunity.

Stay objective Tonye. It is the only surefire way to excel in life.

Politics / #AMOSA Apostle, Magu, Otobo, Senate & Ali - Opinion by realborn(m): 2:20pm On Mar 18, 2017
#AMOSA
Apostle, Magu, Otobo, Senate & Ali

Senate and Ali:

I just read an article on the saga by a Lawyer, Mr Babatunde Ogala. He concluded that Col. Ali cannot be mandated to wear a uniform because the Act governing the Nigerian Customs stipulates that anybody can be appointed to the Controller General position, furthermore, he rolled out names of individuals who have headed paramilitary agencies including the Nigeria Customs who did not wear uniforms. I disagree with these kite-based reasons.

In my opinion, if he is called a Controller General, then there is a corresponding uniform based rank to the title. If the Senate, a higher authority demands he wears the uniform of a CG to appear before them, so be it. If his job or Custom's policy does not mandate him to wear it daily, then he can wear what he likes daily except when demanded ceremonially or by his superiors such as the Finance Minister, NASS and the Presidency.

The Commander in Chief of the nation could be a Civilian, e.g Jonathan, but he is allowed to wear the corresponding rank of any of the military formations during ceremonial events or as deemed fit in tandem with the C-in-C title.

Oga Ali, wear your uniform next time abeg.

Ali is stubborn; Senate is puerile (an explanation backed by facts could have sufficed); Lawyer to revisit view!

Senate & Magu:

I commend the Presidency (contrary to the unsavory social media comments) for proceeding with the renomination of Magu on the heels of its assessment and conclusion of the DSS integrity screening report on Magu. The Presidency has a right to interpret the feedback as deemed fit within the limits of its understanding of the severity of the DSS feedback. The Presidency may err in its interpretation and its decisions may be lacking.

My excitement and respect is that though both the EFCC and DSS are agencies under the Presidency, there seem to be no attempt to manipulate or alter the observations of the DSS. This is unprecedented. In my opinion, this autonomy is required for optimum efficiency of all agencies.

My understanding is that the Presidency may have carried out a SWOT analysis on Mr Magu, that is weighing the bad allegations against his good performance, and still find Mr Magu fit for the job, hence his renomination.

As for the Senate, the members have exuded aptly the constitutional requirements. I commend the members. If the Senate is not convinced, the members have a right to reject the Candidate in the event of a substantial material circumstance such as lack of integrity report from a suitable agency. Mr Magu's explanations or response to the allegations may not be satisfactory to them. The last time I checked the members are not trained Judges. They are allowed to use their discretion. Unfortunately, if wrong, they cannot be berated, hence in my opinion, they have acted well.

Except the constitution bars anyone facing prosecution for graft or corrupt practices from sitting at the hallowed chamber, claims of corrupt persons interrogating the anti-corruption Czar remains an extra-constitutional sanctimonious sentimental expression. Irrespective of how convinced we are, these ongoing-trial-Senators can be said to be innocent until proven guilty. We need to fix our institutions. Until then, the provisions of the Constitution subsists.

If the Senate is required to approve Magu's appointment and the members decline, so be it. Lessons learned by all. Association with the wrong people and "forming Chairman" (Private Jets, high rent and First Class travels) as a Civil Servant can be costly.

Presidency should field someone else!

Apostle & Otobo

I will not judge Apostle on moral grounds. I will let his followers do that.

If Otobo is guilty of blackmail, I absolutely agree she should face the music.

If Otobo feels she has been grossly abused and wishes to tell her tale with bra and pant to the world, I have no objections, as long as she and her handlers understand the consequences of libel, especially if her claims are false.

She has made claims of attempted murder. She may have a right to some media disclosure if permitted by the law.

Apostle has the right as an individual to exercise his fundamental human rights if he thinks they have been abused. He necessarily does not owe some of us explanations on the allegations. However with his gale of denials and denigrating assessment of Otobo, if she is able to justify her allegations with substantial evidence(s), to the acceptance of the Social Media Court Jury, the impact will be devastating to his reputation irrespective of the nature of ongoing court case(s) on the subject.

However, I disagree with spurious claims of this melee defined as an attack against Christianity by some commentators because of his previous debacle with the government. The contexts are mutually exclusive. I have not read any account where the government mandated Apostle to pay taxes in forex to Otobo (as some accounts claim they both concurred with money exchanging hands), to have given the government, privity of a relationship and certainty of a willing tool to expose or embarrass or lie against the Apostle.

It is simply a case of allegations between two people. I am in support of both parties exercising their rights, devoid of political or religious connotations.

NB:
Why does she always wear such provocative attires for her video shoots on the subject? I am confused though!!

Lastly:
Welcome back Mr President!

While growing up, I have seen these fights in our own very back yard, and whenever it's over, the Fulani gets blamed because the gravity of their action is usually more brutal, but if you check the root of the fight, you will find out that they actually were not at fault 80% of the time.

The average Fulani man is a peaceful fellow but very brutal when provoked, especially when it comes to the cows.

This same opinion of a friend on Facebook actually prompted sharing on Nairaland.

The first herdsman had resorted to depart in peace before I beckoned on him.

More so, this happened in Lagos, day time and I was in a vehicle. It was safer to keep the windows up.

I really think those young lads really needed help. I doubt they would have made any forceful demands.

A sincere effort by the State and Federal Governments could have abated this new low of mistrust and wanton destruction of lives in affected areas. Unfortunately, these so called leaders are bereft of understanding and seemingly care less.

Politics / Herdsmen, My Personal Encounter.... by realborn(m): 10:09am On Jan 26, 2017
#Herdsmen

Yesterday afternoon as I returned, and approached the adjoining street, I saw a herd of cows sluggishly advance toward me. It was pretty strange. I tried to maneuver peacefully to the nearest right or left. In split seconds, the herdsman surfaced.

I had my windows down, but rolled them up on sighting his very long machete in its sheath strapped with pride with a belt to his left shoulder. He slowly walked up to me while I waited amiably though tensed for his beloved pets to pass.

Once he got to my window he stopped, gave away a frail smile. Looked at me, and made a gesture of the hand to the mouth, to signify hunger and thirst. I could also hear at as much decibels the rolled up window permitted, few words of appeal, shockingly in good English. His eyes though stern were still subtle. For a second, I nurtured the thought to pull through the remaining cows; I asked without uttering a word, why stop right next to my window on a lonely street, on a very hot afternoon with a sword-like cutlass, with the gory tales of invasion we read daily?

Then compassion was berth.

I said, if truly, this young man was hungry and thirsty, my fears of an attack were less pertinent than helping a soul. More so he has come in peace. I reached for a recently collected change, drove forward a bit, then beckoned on him to come. From the side mirror, I saw him gasp in forward motion with excitement on his face. I strung the window down a bit to allow me squeeze the note to him , but couldn't wait for him to reach me. I handed the squeezed note to him in a 4x100m relay baton exchange fashion, while in soft motion.

He was very delighted and raised both hands above his chest in a delightsome feedback. I could feel his unending "Thank You". I was engulfed in pity.

Thereafter, I meandered onto my street and saw a new set of cows with no shepherd. Hanhan, I sighed. These ones were right in front of my gate. "Wetin be dis na", I wondered. Then a dude surfaced behind the last crew. I approached my gate after the cows moved. Without wanting to warrant contact with his eyes, I looked away.

Then, the herdsman walked to the passenger window and drew my attention from my deliberate look-away.
In an audible voice he chanted "pls help me, I need water". I couldn't disregard his plea. I looked at him and pointed in the direction of the first crew to signify that I had dropped something earlier. He smiled, made a head gesture, to the left and right, which I interpreted to mean, "e no matter, abeg help me still".

At this point, I could see how frail he was, and how tattered his clothes were. I reached for the last note, and gave to him. He also smiled in appreciation.

Immediately after, the gate was open, and I drove in. For a funny reason, it took a longer while for the security man to do the needful, and he did not witness the episodes.

Though, what I gave was measurably little. Their appreciations were immeasurably more. The fabric of love has been balkanized by self centered politicians and leaders who by every means for personal gains continue to divide this country along ethnic and religious lines. They fan the embers of violence and promote hate, mistrust, paranoia, and unrest.

Like the Samaritan, we must continue to love. This is the essence of life.

I was once corrected on this forum not say "Nigeria will be great again", because Nigeria has never been really great. Hence I will say, "Nigeria will someday be great"!

The comments on this thread are shocking.

1. I personally love SR to a fault. Irrespective of the sentiments we share, since the online platform's formation, the outfit has often times exposed anomalies of every government and substantiated same with evidence in most instances. Perhaps not all of their news articles are accurate, however, most are. I admire Sowore's guts.

2. Notwithstanding my posit above, if any citizen feels his rights have been trampled upon and can establish a libel charge cum defamation against the outfit, I am in total support of the Chief Responsibility Officer of the company taking absolute responsibility. He must defend himself and his outfit accordingly or face the music.

3. I think this has nothing to do with Buhari. In my opinion, it is puerile to trivialize and sentimentalize every event in the country.

4. I pray Sowore's ordeal will not deter the outfit. The truths we have read so far from them have been very eye opening.
