Same thing happening everywhere in Nigeria. My simply answer to the insecurity as on another post copied: It is at this point the people should rise up and say enough is enough and throw their collective weight behind a doubling down of security for two reasons. To honour the slain who gave his life for their cause and most importantly, to ensure his legacy continues so that a new champion of security emerges and the system does not deteriorate or totally collapse. The present terrible insecurity we face in Nigeria has brought back a lot of memories of documentaries I have watched over several years about the birth of nations we call advanced and developed today. The United States which is somewhat a poster child for the kind of democracy we desire in Nigeria suffered the same fate over two hundred years ago. As I have said before. There were vast parts of America that were pure bandit country, totally ungovernable, filled with peoples of discordant ideologies, of differing backgrounds and creeds, doing whatsoever they needed to survive including horrendous criminal activities. It was a typical last man standing scenario. But at the end when they realised that only misery awaited them in future they began to crystalize ways and means of survival by co operation, solidarity and communal help into doing what is right, noble and honourable, i.e living right. This is what we need in Nigeria. If we continue to consume each other like famished rats in a barrel, this country will simply go extinct, together with our future as individuals. In summary, these communities raised their voices and came together to form powerful internal security systems later given legislative backing that forms the County Sheriff system of law enforcement in America today. Law enforcement in America is absolute at the grassroots. They had Sheriffs in every county, County courts and County gallows to 'hang' offenders, period. That is what we need in Nigeria, A total overhaul of the system of Law and Justice, because the present system is just not fit for purpose. If the peoples of Sapele do not rise up and collectively DEMAND for an end to crime in their midst, DEMAND that the perpetrators of this assassination be found, tried and PUBLICLY punished. And then DEMAND for County Law enforcement, Justice and 'GALLOWS' to break the vicious cycle of crime..... they will never win but will continue to be cannon fodder for these local 'bandits' rampaging around and making misery of their lives. Forget the Federal Government. It has CLEARLY FAILED to handle insecurity in Nigeria. The Nigeria structure was built in the 60's and 70's as a bungalow state to handle a single family of citizens of post colonial ideologies. Today this family has grown exponentially in number, diversity and ideology, and the attempt to add more floors on the foundation fit only for that bungalow is the cause of the collapsing State we see today. Nigerians need to either rebuild a new nation or express themselves as fully independent communities within the compound of the Nigeria national territory. We either restructure or die in the collapse. |

slimfit1:Hmmm.... he is... and has forgotten he is supposed to be a 'President' as well.... of the Senate and by extension, of the nation, the peoples, Nigerians, which in saner climes is as powerful as the President and C-in-C of the country, the geographical space called Nigeria. And his failure to realize the potentials of his office and a patent lack of understanding of his responsibilities has put us in this mess. For he is supposed to aggregate the views of the 'other side', the side of the governed and moderate the activities of the Executive to give governance a meaningful, human face such that whatever target the Executive is sniping at, he will be the spotter. But here we are. They are both pulling the trigger and missing the targets because they are both on the same emotional wavelength which should NEVER OCCUR in government. For there is no working democracy anywhere in the world where the Executive and Legislature will or should agree on EVERYTHING. It is impossible to develop a nation by one vision, one means and one 'ways' only. In years to come Mr. Lawan will look back and regret his actions and misadventures and missed opportunities while in office. They always do. Money will not cover up for everything. That is a certainty. Ask IBB or OBJ. |
Just don't bring your nonsense to Abuja abeg. |
In an era that supposedly has ended corruption. The most widely publicized case of graft involving top law enforcement since the days of Tafa Balogun.... And the incorruptible government is pussy footing in full view of the world instead of walking the talk... When we say corruption is not the biggest problem facing Nigeria but the bad structure that fuels the fire.... After all are we saying he has not been punished because all others above him are beneficiaries of his malady.... no. But even if they gain nothing financially from him they are obliged to protect him because the structure of Nigeria places pecuniary interests above all. |
Juninho is heads and shoulders above the rest. But, but personally the players I will always enjoy taking a set piece was no other than the German and FC Cologne midfield maestro, Thomas Hassler. Die Mannschaft does produce set piece experts in the boat load. |
Standards are just falling through the floor....honestly.... kai... ![]() |
JAMO84:Which are critical. But it has also said for years that we cut the cost of governance to balance that out.... but today not only are we running the highest recurrent expenditure in Nigeria's history but we are spending on frivolous projects that have no impact on the economy short, medium and with the reckless borrowings perhaps even long term. Subsidy removal is simply to save money and redistribute scare resources. If you then throw the saved money away and spend recklessly on your long train of insatiable political contractors, then you are back to square one, simple. This daft government HAS NOT REFORMED the way which got us here in the first place but has just exacerbated it. |

Paperbag:Nobody is forcing anyone to join NATO. The last time I checked, Ukraine does not even pass muster as a potential NATO partner as there are several criteria. Rather it is Ukraine bid all these years that has alarmed Russia. |
MangekyoAlt:But half the world including folks like you will still run to America and 'the West' for refuge or relaxation fearing no 'rain of nukes' rather than to sojourn in the 'Almighty Russia and even the 'benevolent' China which few consider a proper country outside its economic attractions. i.e just for business, QED, simply because these countries continue to look at foreigners 'with deep suspicion' and continue to view every foreigner through the eyes of the invader. And you want to know why. The trauma of the past 100 years when Russia was invaded by the Third Reich and suffered tremendously in the hands of Adolph Hitler and when China was invaded, occupied and devastated by the Japanese Empire. One can understand why they are traumatized at not being the biggest dogs in the neighborhood. Now if not for the participation of the vilified 'West' in the Second World war, particularly the United States, both countries will today have been colonies of the great imperial powers of times past. So they should just relax. NATO is not seeking to overrun Russia or forcing its former soviet states to join its alliance and America is only interested in the liberties of the peoples of Taiwan as a small island nation lost by China during its occupation by Japan. Both nations should overcome their trauma and find something useful to benefit all humanity with their considerable resources so that their nations can become the gold standard for life and living. |
nzeobi:Wow, its morning to those who said corruption was the biggest problem in Nigeria and not its structure. Rising poverty and degradation in every index of life and living will continue to trail this country the way it is presently set up and run. |
First match I've watched since the first half of our sad ending against Tunisia and that's only because it was going into added time. Egypt likely to lift the trophy again and prove themselves heads and shoulders above all Africa on the continent. Sad tale though. |
Stuff they were always accusing the opposition PDP of.... How time flies.... |
COMPAQ:....operated by whom please... MTN or Innoson?? |
'....still stuck...' Are they tied to the train or did it collapse on them, pinning them to the ground?? Simply run away with your belongings as fast as your feet can take you or wait till the men of the underworld locate you. |
Nothing to comment.... Just enjoy your country.... ![]() |
People like us no longer speak on these things. We have said more than enough for too long. Just enjoy your economy, country and the leaders you chose to put you right where you all deserve. For the future regrettably speaks of a people who learn nothing so are condemned to continue down the path of tragedy. Continue dropping names towards 2023 and hailing your oppressors you sell your souls to for a morsel that cannot last the night. |
kilisi:Don't mind them. They are too local.... ![]() |
izzy4shizzy: ... Nigerians and sentiment. I just knew someone will say this. |
officialwdhtv:What such a person can do is to dedicate his life to a public, noble course. Then he will have broken the cycle of public indignity. But to stay silent and cower under the influence is to fan the flames of suspicion leading to alienation. My two cents. |
AppliedReason:One of the best and most incisive posts on this forum in a very long while. |
I want to ask those who are flying the Osinbajo kite this simple question: At what stage will he come out and publicly admit that this government he served in has got it wrong in this way and that way and that his tenure WILL BE DIFFERENT. At what stage will he politically delaminate. Or will we go to the polls and thumb stamp for continuity.... If he is not bold enough to admit certain failures in, with and around him.... WILL YOU STILL VOTE HIM IN.... and on what basis. |
Digmygold:Just leave them. They have very low expectations of those they vote in, those they empower to rule over them and entrust their hard earned taxes to. Nigeria is not going to get better in the near future. In other climes, the Presidency is the hardest job, the most scrutinized position and the bar is so high few are takers. Here anyone is eligible, no questions asked, so they do as they please. If Nigerians make another severe mistake, there will be little sympathy anywhere in the civilized world because they all assume democracy cannot fail to work for the betterment of a peoples. |
sslcrypt:It is the citizens that need to 'take the bull by the horns' and align themselves with performance. If we were not voting sentimentally but objectively it will give the impetus for a so called Vice President to be more assertive, more principled and more willing to showcase his leadership qualities and know how while risking his office and perhaps his political future. Then we can boldly say he will be a better President. But the reality of today is that elected officials can get away with poor governance because the electorate are largely not interested in performance. Only a handful of citizens go to the polls because they have determined the candidate is ready and equipped to change the country. There is no incentive for any Vice President to be assertive, responsible and capable. |
The exact thing I will say. He simply cannot extricate himself from the maladministration of this government as the second in command and head of this and that. When a President succeeds to a certain degree the VP gets a big shot in the arm like Al-Gore almost made it on the economic successes of the Clinton years. When a President goofs big time a Vice President like Mike Pence who did very well as Governor and was the shock absorber of the Trump presidency gets whacked too.... being simply un-electable. If Nigeria practiced a half decent democracy Mr. Vice President with so much Buhari era baggage and lots of campaign/debate grilling to come will simply be taken apart by most competing candidates. But this is Nigeria where Hobson's choice is the way we roll. |
ThatsONYI:Don't say so. It is an integral part of the success story of enterprises in the east and the primary reason why unemployment there is relatively low as compared to the rest of Nigeria. Developed economies of the West are even looking for ways to revive the Apprenticeship system to help combat youth unemployment which is a headache worldwide. Perhaps the master has fallen on hard times. who knows. This present economy has made a number of employers to disengage their long term staff on terms less favourable than normal. Its just a pity. |
backbencher:Nice. But how did other governments of the past manage to keep out of the crazy borrowing (bordering on near tripling of the national debt stock in only 7 years) when oil prices were equally low. Because of a torrent of putrid propaganda we seem to have forgotten that oil price fluctuation is cyclical and low prices did not arrive with the present government. Historical lows occurred during the Abacha regime and tarried until the later part of the Obasanjo regime, even during the Shagari regime if memory serves me right. Yet with a wasteful system of democratic feeding pots the man from Ota still managed to reduce the national debt to historical lows and keep it there until Yaradua opened the pandoras box again. What is it about this goverment and perhaps Yaradua's that just cannot manage resources and keep the cost of running government low. Because that is the only difference between the prudence of the Obasanjo regime and the extravagance of this regime.... cost of government/governance. |
Sonn:You can say that again.... |
For a few months now the price of crude has been sufficiently high to wipe away all the excuses of..... 'In Jonathan's time....' you know the rest.... Let us see what new reasons the government and its teeming, hard boiled fanatics will give for the continuously shoddy performance of the economy going forward. |
