Odingo1:Well, your picture says it all. First the topography is rocky.... so sedimentation will be minimal and dredging maintenance rare and as evidenced by the blue water. The Niger is essentially brown water which is high maintenance and so only viable for flat or shallow bottomed vessels. |
aribisala0:Just create the infrastructure and let businesses spring up. The trade between Parts of the north and the east can significantly be enhanced. The Niger Delta is full of inland ports, popularly called jetties and they handle all sorts of maritime trade and activities. Those in Rivers, Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom State (Eket to be specific) bring in goods from Cameroon round the clock. It does't have to be massive ports for Ocean liners or oil tankers, bulk carriers or container ships just simple flat bottom, shallow draft vessels, barges and tugs just as you have trade along the Nile, the Mississippi or the Thames in London. Kogi has vast mineral resources within an earshot of Onitsha. This can spur industrialization along the river just as you have a lot of industries located along the Mississippi moving coal, iron ore and other minerals, wheat, barley and other agric produce and machinery. An investment in an inland/river port will not bring in foreign exchange but it will surely bring in revenue and spur activity. |
It is a thought process which when it takes root in a particular locality becomes extremely difficult to shake loose except by reverse psychology. It is the same thought process that runs in the circles of those who march across the Sahara desert and invariably wash ashore European beaches, the same that makes young men and women strap controlled substances to their bodies and boldly seek to make hay in Arabia and Asian nations where the noose awaits or those who willingly pick up AK-47's for the mirage of a caliphate. There is no level of punishment that will deter these gruesome acts as it has taken hold of the minds and sensibilities in that region. Only a concerted effort of social, mental detox and a new lease of wholesome living will do the trick. The NOA if it still exists had better wake up to its responsibilities. |
aribisala0:A lot of maritime trade can be stimulated by river ports for barges and other shallow berth watercraft. In some countries the volume of cargo by this means is significant and can be an economic force multiplier as it remains the cheapest form of transport globally. Trade along the Niger between Kogi/Benue and down to Warri, etc can significantly be opened up. |
Vichot:River Port pls. |
Hmmm.... what people go through to get an education.... These boys deserve a scholarship.... their parents on the other hand deserve a reprimand.... PS. Next time, give the story some context as to the location, the time and other details that will better picture the astonishing event. |
And they were able to drag the President into this.... Much ado about poor quality leadership. Honestly, we deserve better.... those that pointed out the patent lack of capacity at the very top in 2015.... and those who have repented ever since. |
sniperr007:Poignant..... but what was he elected to do....? This is where our own brand of democracy in Nigeria falls flat. No concrete demands or partnership proposals. Nothing written, signed and sealed before their empowerment. At best vague demands for a better life. So when they get there they quickly forget their kangaroo propaganda, deny the difficult parts and wander away to do their personal pet projects, calling it vision. I am not critical of Willie Obiano or democracy in Anambra because he has done very well and politics there has been about the best in Nigeria since 1999, but anyone complaining should rather look inwards and consider the fact that when a servant is employed he has his tasks beforehand. People are not employed for nothing but to create value, to answer questions and to perform tasks that are specifically required by their employers. Now that Soludo's time is at hand, what were the specific tasks enumerated in his job interview (campaign) before his employment (election). For if there were no specific demands and concrete answers backed by ways and means, time and space then come 2030 (doesn't that send shivers down your spine at a potential waste of life) the same lamentations will arise. The quality of the candidate (employee) is useless if the interview process is equally shoddy. In this part of the world we erroneously think elections is democracy and dividends accrue the moment 'our man' is sworn in. As a business owner will you assume that of an employee. Will you give him a Letter and go to sleep?.... |
VaselineCrew:The tragedy of our time. The most incompetent electorate on earth. None, absolutely none of these names dropped here and there has made any tangible commitment to service in seeking solutions to their numerous problems and they are already jumping up and down like school kids. That is how we ended up with the one in Aso Rock who has promptly denied everything except, perhaps his name. |
Qualitative leadership includes the ability to take hard decisions based on strong convictions. Yet another proof that we have been 'under led' these past 8 years. |
Hahaha....complete with suicide doors..... ![]() |
kayusely70:People should learn to distinguish between revenge and justice. Justice ensures the victim remains innocent because the society through the State is responsible for prosecuting but vengeance can potentially unleash a vicious cycle of retribution and endless blood letting particularly in gang related crime. In this case except if the perp is a petty criminal the victim will sleep with two eyes closed. If he is part of a gang..... |
donbachi:That is the downside of self help..... And why the justice system should be made to work. |
jaxxy:This is the normal sentimental postulation to tickle the sensibilities of the uninformed. The same story that brought this Federal government into power and the rest is history. Your beloved candidate is a saint and 'has done well' while your opponent is a villain and a 'looter'. The question then will be. How certain are you that the present one has not looted as well. And if there is no misdemeanor why the desperation to install the next government of its liking. Is it not to cover up after the fact? How can a clean government arise from a shady process. How can a healthy dinner come from a dirty kitchen....? You guys eh. |
Cizarr:Visions of what is likely to happen at the National level for the Presidential ticket. The establishment candidate will be doctored in. Democracy indeed. |
This is the way government works and made to work for the prosperity of the citizens. I had a lot of confidence in this man and so far he has been excellent in his approach to leadership and governance. Though I am not from those parts but I cannot wait to see the vision and competencies that will be unleashed to drive Anambra forward, a state that has been blessed with stable, qualitative leadership in this Republic. It will surely be a model for what governance at the State level can be and an inspiration to several others. |
I hope all the APC Presidential candidates are watching and taking notes. |
AFvckingAlpha:So where did he say, swear, sign and seal that he will do all in your aforementioned prayer.... Or are you amongst the Citizen K, that sits back and 'hopes' a politician will become the opposite of what they are by nature.... that is not giving a hoot about the people... |
You just wonder how government in Nigeria works. Little wonder we are where we are. What exactly is the function of the civil service. Are they not responsible for administering government. Did Amaechi draw funds from his personal account and fly out that plane to Germany himself? There was bound to be documentation from the government to the Customs Service, the Federal Civil Aviation Authority and a few other regulatory agencies before it was shipped out. Who processed these documents and how come they have all disappeared and the government staff involved dissolved into thin air.... I just do not understand how things work in this country anymore. How can assets worth billions of naira just vanish like that without human or documentary evidence. |
Anambra has been a success story this 4th Republic no doubt. Has been blessed with relative political stability and elected qualitative leadership. |
The FAAN should install functional CCTV at all these security choke points with clear warnings to forestall such unfortunate incidents. A review of the footage will provide irrefutable evidence of who is erring and should be promptly sacked. Instead of this Saturday morning he said, she said, husband and wife brickbats on a face me, I face you drama stage. In this global clime of insecurity our ports of entry should be sanitized. |
Grow local capacity first before foreign partnerships. That is how it is done. If not it is a return to slavery..... with a vengeance.... |
DMerciful:Sad tale. People who simply cannot relate their thoughts, words and ways to their experiences. This is an organisation that has fought doggedly to hold every government of this 4th Republic to account and has proved itself to be apolitical. Why it appears ineffectual is down to the lack of support by the very citizens it works for. The same citizens who are judges, law enforcement, government employees, and then ordinary folks who all collectively suffer the ills of maladministration. When will Nigerians begin to quest for a better experience as citizens of this country..... when? |
blackpanda:The internet never forgets and in the time of our children's children I am certain they will look back and wonder at how their fathers and great grand fathers conducted themselves when they discover and relive their comments and views of life. Needless to say, they will be too ashamed to be associated with most. It is only wise to walk the lane of posterity and bequeath only what is true and right. People come and go, legacies remain for ever. |
hanitamukesh:Yes, doing what your so called Legislature should be doing. That is, holding those who are mortgaging your future to account. |
OnyeOlokoro:Indeed and play a false 9. Awoniyi is just not it. Too poor. |
Leonbonapart:Then move Simon out of there and switch wings with Chukwueze for a few minutes to destabilise them, simple. |
For goodness sake Eguavoen should just rotate the wingers to keep the Tunisian defence guessing. This formation is too static and predictable. Show you are the best manager of the preliminary round haba. The Tunisian gaffer is not even present in the dugout and they are tactically neutralizing us. |
Heterodox:It goes beyond what you are, but HOW you will go about it. The interviews I participate in my private concern centers on specifics these days and a lot of employers I know are not shying away from positing real life scenarios, issues affecting them which they desire the would be employee to tackle. The Nigeria economic scenario of today more or less demands specialists in a variety of positions and the candidate must be prepared to provide solutions on the fly. At least to test whether he or she is mentally capable and alert to the present day realities. There was this interview where the candidate was given a company report and given 30 minutes to go over it and suggest solutions for a turnaround within 3 weeks. This is blatantly brutal but hey, that is the reality of corporate Nigeria today. |
Jaycobbs:You just wish we could demand such diligence from our elected leaders particularly the President of Nigeria who matters above all. |
Team sheet please. |
CoolAmbience:Well the South-South got it despite the Niger-Delta challenges and the north (east to west) isn't peaceful either but it does not stop their push for power. So to say leaders of eastern extraction should first handle local difficulties of national origin before aspiring for the leadership of this country is a bit disingenuous. The North has led this nation proportionately more than the South and through all its challenges producing some decent leaders and some very ugly ones. It never shies away from power at the scent of it. |
