What it means is that the instability witnessed in Nigeria is bound to continue post 2023 because this is a hard circle to square up. |
Starzo:So, are you not 'talking down' Nigeria as well with your 'bad maintenance culture'.... and part of the 'you people'. If you are living in falsehood and denial, it is not mandatory for everyone. Where is your National Stadium and for how many years has it been out of action and in disrepair and for what reason. The last time your National team played in Nigeria, what was the condition of the pitch... If I see a good thing, I commend it and lament that my country, a nation with far more resources cannot meet up, what is your problem with that. Today there are a dozen African countries that can host AFCON in a heartbeat because they 'have it', Nigeria is not one of them. Just humble yourselves and learn please. |
And you will not demand and protest to take over law enforcement in your domains because you want the status quo to continue.... because you are afraid of what a governor in a region far away will do with the powers of policing his domain. Who exactly is holding the minds of the peoples of this country captive??... suffering and yet helpless and yet cannot accept help. |
udomonday:I'm very impressed. The standards are rising. And it has helped the teams especially the Eagles play with so much gusto. Nigeria should learn from this. Quality infrastructure is not rocket science. |
Nitah1:That is exactly what I am saying. The Governor has no leverage over the only security apparatus recognized by the Constitution so he cannot ultimately be held liable for the failure of the criminal justice system in his domain. The best he can do is set up vigilantes and other pseudo security outfits but which have no right Constitutionally to investigate and prosecute. He still has to go through the Federal Government. And we all know that the lack of punishment is the biggest source of fuel for the rampaging menace of criminality. This present system is unwieldy, unworkable and has resulted in the mushrooming of challenges all over the country. No democratic country that is as populated and diverse as Nigeria has only one layer of security services. Because by the nature of insecurity, it is a grassroots problem. It happens in locations and in languages and cultures too complex for one means and one set of men and one singular budget to handle. America had this challenge 200 to 300 years ago. Vast parts of the West particularly had this same herdsmen (cowboys), rustling, territory grabbing and banditry issue. The Federal Government then appointed Marshals to various territories and gave them powers to effect the law. This gave rise to the Sheriff system (local government police equiv.) we see so successful in America today. If Abraham Lincoln had wanted to investigate every missing cattle in Texas or every land invasion in Wisconsin or every robbery in Idaho he will have dies of stress. The Nigeria Police Services as we have today should just concern itself with National Crimes, cross border crimes, crimes against Federal personnel, institutions and infrastructure and monitoring of State police where there is over reach, period. |
God1000:Exactly. Commander-in-Chief is a weighty title and in a country structured as ours he bears ALL the responsibility. That is why we advocate for restructuring so that this burden is shared. But they say, NO...... and still do not want to own up to their arrogated responsibilities. They say governors will misuse the powers which is a tacit acknowledgment that the governors presently DO NOT have power or powers to effect security in their domains. Its like the Governor of California having no say whatsoever in the way the LAPD is run but the Chief there takes orders directly from the Director of the FBI or HS who in turn is answerable only to the NSA..... such that the file on Arnold Schwarzenegger's auto crash a few days ago can potentially be in the White House Oval office to be scrutinized by ol sleepy Joe..... ludicrous the way Nigeria is run. What is Mr. Buhari's concern with a cow eating a corn field in Agatu.... but our structure brings the Presidency into such ridicule. |
The training pitch looks immaculate. Very un-African. |
[quote author= post=109609575]All Nigeria Police need TOTAL reorientation,, We have been saying this for years now. Something must CHANGE. WE CANNOT continue to live in fear of the people they pay our taxes to guide and protect us. Sigh! But when the endSARS movement was on folks like you said it was an insurrection aimed at removing the government and promptly hailed when it was hijacked by hoodlums and crushed by agents of the status-quo ante. Now let me see how you will make an omelette of a civilized police service without breaking the eggs of institutional systemic maladministration. Perhaps your solution will be to appeal, to beg them to change their ways.... I just laugh. Fellow, many more lives will be needlessly lost until we wake up and forcefully demand for better governance, not just in the police but across board. There is not a single advanced nation today not having determined social activism presently or has passed through the furnace of revolutionary change. Wake up man. This country is not getting better. |
What are his solutions to Nigeria's key problems. That should be front and centre of every sensible citizen of this country BEFORE finding him suitable. If he is to be Nigeria's next President, a year and two months is long enough to start articulating issues that matter. Let Mr. Tinubu change the narrative surrounding politics in Nigeria for once by being the first to make 2023 ISSUE BASED. So that if he gets there he won't spend half the term LAMENTING and the other half LEARNING as we see today because the country is in a worse position than it was when the ruling APC came to power in 2015. There will be no room to blame anyone to satisfy the sentiments of party faithfuls then and the country will quickly turn against him. So he should begin to prepare and chart his ways to get us out of this mess before he is considered CAPABLE. |
lexy2014:Exactly. No one is talking about matching his or her expectations with performance potentials. Just dropping names all over the place. They then get an individual who begins to learn on the job. Whoever is to assume leadership should show why her she can change the narrative about Nigeria BEFORE a commitment is made by any sane Nigerian to that candidate. Only in this country do people employ without interview or job description. No wonder the recurring mess government after government. And some of these respondents will claim to be educated or enlightened .... or both. |
Hybrid600:CAF has said before the tournament started that in such a case the match will be forfeited. That is a walkover and 3 points in the group game and in the knockout stage.... the opponent qualifies for the next round. That is why Covid protocols are CRITICAL in the camp. Not the carelessness by which ordinary Nigerians go about their daily activities back home, moving around infected but asymptomatic and thinking the virus and pandemic is a scam. If there is a serious outbreak in the Eagles camp, our cup hopes go poof..... simple. I hope they have the right attitude. |
legba1:Indeed, the tyres, the weight, the materials of construction.... |
Merely looking at it you immediately realise it was bound to fail. The design is everything it should not be. A survival craft in hostile conditions MUST be all-terrain and highly MOBILE just as the various explorers sent to alien planets in the solar system. Failure to move and traverse rugged terrain simply means death no matter how sturdy it is. So it must first be light and second be nimble. This looks like a tank or APC and when you realise snow is simply frozen water.... then the game is simply up..... |
Psalmistproject:This is also true.... unfortunately. And some are victims of tangential fraud.... committed by associates, vendors and even government institutions that prey on their success and momentum. I've heard of seemingly successful enterprises virtually ruined by the powers that be and so are unable to fulfill their obligations to investors. If we do not strengthen our criminal justice system and bring every Nigerian, no matter the status under the ambit of the law, this country will remain a dangerous place to invest in and poverty will remain with us for a long time. The fear of the law is one big factor that makes things work elsewhere. Look at the Arnold Schwarzenegger automobile accident. If it happened in Nigeria the ex-governor will simply hail a cab and leave the scene with his PA doing the calls and never to be questioned not to talk about investigated for a possible misdemeanor. |
Explorers:A bit more on our shores. That is a Denali. And chances are that it is heavily customized, perhaps even armored. |
Half a trillion dollar industry today.... but probably no single person in those photographs is alive today and even if they were nature will be in full control of their bodies and it won't matter. The greatest 'much ado about nothing' if you ask me. Why do a lot of women become slaves to their bodies and incorrigible investors in that diminishing asset. |
For seven years, the same rhetoric..... I will, I will, I will I will.... a sad, never ending political campaign slogan. May we vote the next President who can, can a can. Since this one is going to WILL his willy list of problems as our inheritance. |
Originalsly:Who has watched the Martin Scorsese movie, 'Gangs of Newyork' starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Nigeria at the present is 300 years behind the States in this regards. It will all get significantly worse before the penny drops and we begin to shed our primitivity. |
Must be Arnold's fault. The road rules are simple and it says clearly: 'Give way to traffic on the left' That is for right hand drive countries. And the fact that he was approaching a major intersection should tell him that he has to be totally alert. Perhaps a T-1000 was in hot pursuit.... ![]() |
NwaNimo1:Hahahaha..... ![]() Good mirth to start a weekend.... |
Hmmm.....And our incorrigible herders will be issuing VR goggles to their hapless cattle showing 'Call of Duty' when invading farms and destroying crops and livelihoods all over the country. We remain in the dark ages in this part of the world. |
Wow, so folks still circumcise their daughters in this day and age... |
This forum has seriously regressed with the fortunes of this country. |
Nauttyprof:Indeed. So they should change their nomenclature from Representatives to Presidential Aides and Assistants. And the so called Senate leader should drop the tag President as he is not Presidential in any way. A President has authority and is independently minded and is not subservient. The Senate is supposed to be his fiefdom and he has the power to challenge the Executive on our behalf and for our good. |
They wanted a 'cooperating' not a 'confrontational' legislature. And foolish citizens bandied around. Is Nigeria better today with rubber 'stamppers'?? Is a Legislature that is now an appendage of the Executive worthwhile. We can see the product of authoritarianism. One man's ideas, one man's vision, one man's ways is highly risky in a divergent nation such as ours. We need people to REPRESENT us and hold to account the leadership of this country. To SEE, HEAR and PROJECT our OWN views and aspirations from time to time. The National Assembly is our only say in this democracy. The Executive is elected every 4 years TO DO. But the Legislature is for the day to day fine tuning of the ways of the Executive. Nigerians need to get enlightened. Citizens of other nations CONTROL their leaders and not just vote and go to sleep. They employ a driver and TELL the driver WHERE TO GO. Ignorant, indolent Nigerians employ drivers, sit back and so are always taken for a ride. This present Legislature is for all intents and purposes completely useless to us. |
There are few things as precious as a female kid in that part of the country at school. Such massive odds stacked against her and her dear parents that they do not in any way deserve this. It is just heart wrenching. If only the Almighty can raise people back to life for another chance, such a sweet little girl deserves first place. Such a sad loss. |
I don't want to sound parochial but this is like what happened somewhere in the East a couple of days ago isn't it and the whole surrounding village was burnt down. Now the question one should ask. Are there separate rules of engagement in different theaters of conflict In Nigeria. Why does the military respond in a different manner with individuals targeted in the North for retribution and in a collective manner targeting whole communities in the South for collective retribution. Those who are familiar with their operations these days should enlighten us please. |
We should scale through with a caveat. Just like with the World Cup where South American teams generally or traditionally do not do well when it is played in Europe and European teams generally do not do well when it is played in South America, I am not surprised the North Africans are struggling with the conditions of heat, humidity and a poor playing surface and have not done well at this AFCON. The caveat is our own team and its weaknesses at the extreme ends of the formation with a struggling attack which is not converting efficiently and dodgy goalies (both had eye popping whoopsies that didn't inspire my total confidence). Hoping that the midfield and flanks work as they have been to counter the North African traditional possession football. Once we can have a share of that, anywhere near 48% possession we will surely triumph. |
Hmmm.... the bottom half of the draw is heavy with past champions everywhere you look. Good draw for us as we typically get better with every tournament match. |
Absolutely impressed. I hope the impending success story of Anambra will be a pilot case against the feudal, neo-colonial ideologies pervading the rest of Nigeria leading to its absolute ruin. That people CAN BE LED to development when they FIGHT for the right leadership. Congratulations to all Anambrarians. |
nnamdi640:More hardship is necessary to move this country forward. It is the only sanitizer of sentiment when ordering leaders from the restaurant of democracy. See them shouting Tinubu, starboy, Atiku, Umahi, etc up and down without an inkling what these folks will do for them.... Only hardship will correct these errors and make the selecting of leaders a proper job interview for a desperate establishment about to go bankrupt. |
I hope one day we can evolve out of this system of development by 'contractual administration' and learn to grow organically. Where infrastructure will be built and services rendered on a steady, regular basis in tandem with productivity. Where the construction and maintenance of roads, drains and bridges do not require the Federal cabinet to meet to approve them but the masterplan and development plans are implemented methodologically from sustainable income resulting from investments. This Saturday afternoon supermarket type of development is too slow, too unwieldy, too expensive and fraught with too many loopholes for graft to be sustainable. It is the harbinger for all these unsustainable borrowings our government is trapped in. |
