jboycrb:What if that is one of her few interests. There is a lot of traction in specialization. |
Very interesting post which says a lot. A deep psychological study of a huge swathe of Nigerian society. Is it necessary for her to know Ukraine....no/yes. It it necessary for her to know about the conflict....no/yes. Does her knowledge of events correlate with cognitive capabilities..... no/yes And on and on.... interesting.... very deep... ![]() so on a weekend like this let me be the Devil's Advocate. |
greatness77:As for the responses above.... overwhelmingly acknowledging we have issues here..... if we say this is a microcosm of society....then why can't we achieve it. How can we all be so right..... in thought perhaps.... yet do so wrong.... How come we all know what it right and proper, yet cannot seem to deliver a better society. Are there no bad guys in Ukraine....? |
stanluiz:It was team work. Read your history very well. The first defeat of the Nazis came in North Africa championed by the British and American forces. (the British did most of he fighting). The result was that Hitler could not get his hands on Mid east and North African oil (which he badly needed for his mechanized forces which was the lynch pin of his successes.) After that he had to rely on synthetic oil and trickle reserves coming from Scandinavia. The turning point of World War 2 came above the United Kingdom and the English channel when the RAF singularly defeated the Luftwaffe and ended Germany Airforce. An Airforce that will have paid dividends in Russia. Hitler decided to turn east for the oil reserves in the Urals when America was dragged into the war (because he knew an Allied landing in Europe was going to happen) but without an Airforce and long supply chains to his divided armored forces he lost the battle to take Russia. Mark you he was just 25 miles to Moscow when the tide turned. Without fuel much of his armoured resources were abandoned and the fighting became his infantry versus Russia's armored. He lost. in the meanwhile the allies had landed in France and so Hitler had to fight on two fronts against three mighty armies. He just could not survive. The allies were exactly the same distance from Berlin as the Russians but Eisenhower ordered the American forces not to enter Berlin so as not to cause a flash with the Russians to Russia took the title of 'surrender', not that they alone won the war or they alone defeated Hitler. Nazi Germany lost the war because of strategic decisions by Hitler and his generals and I will list them out. Karl Donitz insistence on the war of attrition in sinking merchant ships, particularly under the US flag. Hermann Goering's decision to throw practically every german aircraft into the Battle of Britain (who does that) and the bombing of London. Hitler's decision to divide his armoured forces into two task groups, one headed for the oil fields of the Urals and the other headed for St Petersburg (strategically useless- but bearing the name 'Stalingrad'.... you know the problem with sentiment.). With long supply chains, no protection from the air and winter coming (tight timetable), it was mission impossible. Note the bolded. When civilian targets become legitimate, then all bets are off. In the history of warfare, the first army that attacks civilian targets usually loses. You just do not kill civilians indiscriminately and win. Russia has tried it in the past, America too and of course Hitler and Tojo. It breeds the resilience and terrible payback of fundamentalism. Putin should watch this CAREFULLY. |
stanluiz:Same reason. The fear of collateral damage which will drive more people into the arms of Boko Haram. That has been the limitations of asymmetric warfare all over the world. Vietnam and Afghanistan wars have taught the world that fundamentalists simply cannot be defeated by force of arms alone. If the Ukraine conflict becomes a 'fundamentalist' war then Russia will certainly be defeated.... no matter how long it takes. |
shigoslim:But it is practice and experience that brings about competence. Even the Nigerian Army will be a lot more capable today than it was in 1999 when it returned to the barracks. Russia has not fought a major war for decades unlike America that does so every two decades on average. The Russian armed forces will get better with time and tide. |
Blackbelly:I doubt it. Russians are hardly republican. Like most blacks they tend to gravitate towards autocrats. If not for the Bolshevik revolution they will still be ruled by the Romanov dynasty and somewhat resemble the Gulf states of the mid east. Even China is more democratic and its peoples more demanding. |
DoctorDans:But you are selling a service 'fitness'. And the first law of commerce says, 'give the customer what he wants'. In this case the the 'husband' is an important part of the service. So if you want to see more 'married' women at the gyms, I think it is important to respect the general sensibilities.... just for the sake of your business. If I was a gym owner or fitness entrepreneur, it is I who will need to 'change my mentality' and probably engage a few female instructors or superintendents, or some other innovation, not necessarily expecting the customer to change his/hers. |
RPG2020:Big difference. There are standards and regulations in the medical profession which the fitness industry in Nigeria is nowhere near. Thus the consequences of malpractice is much more severe. Secondly, most O&G procedures are conducted by teams, not individuals so there is careful over-watch in all but the most rudimentary and unprofessional setups. Most importantly. How many babies will a woman have in her lifetime to require the frequency of visits and 'exposure' like this. |
Good morning to you Mister Governor. Things we have been saying for years now. When criminals outnumber, out gun and out resource the authorities.... what do you call the State... Simply restructure and let authority and thus resources spring from the grassroots. Ukraine is a classic example. Not enough soldiers and equipment to fight the Bear. So government has licensed every able bodied man to bear arms to defend their country. See how millions of dollars are flowing in to that country and weapons on the way. The degree to which danger is perceived is the degree to which desperate defensive measures are taken. A nation that has scant value for the lives of its citizens will continue to pussyfoot with its structure. Restructure Nigeria NOW. Devolve the powers of law enforcement and franchise the criminal justice system and let the public directly fund their security as it is in the developed world and see crime nose dive. Period. |
humberjade:And it is they that should find a sensible replacement for Mr. Putin. A replacement that will bring them out from the cold. |
The combined GDP of the West remains almost two-third's of the world. That is where wars are won or lost. China will not risk sending a billion people back into poverty because of Russia or the hallucination of its dictator. Even China can be said to be more democratic than Russia. |
wpadmin:Then Russian cities too will be targeted. And Putin will have to retreat to a bunker. It is worth it? No. So be careful what you wish for. |
Just 37 million for all that bloodshed. What a tragedy. |
nilivu:Small, small. You don't jump in feet first. Ask Russia how much they have spent the last 6 months and where they will be the next six. War is expensive and with the West spending little since the pull out of Afghanistan there is a lot more from where that is coming from. The effects will soon be felt. |
Mr. Tinubu. Just outline the solutions to ISSUES ABOUT NIGERIA. The Presidency is not a beauty contest but a contest of IDEAS, of VISION and of how to move Nigeria forward. What is wrong with our politicians? This is a year to elections..... and nothing is offered.... not a single thing.... from anyone.... haba.... ![]() |
How on earth could this lass have been a threat to those wild animals..... just how. This is tragic, just heart breaking. I sincerely hope they are caught and made to face the ultimate penalty. I have said it repeatedly. The structure of Nigeria that does not devolve power to the grass roots where it is needed most is the undoing of Nigeria and its hapless institutions. The police is simply overwhelmed. We need institutionalized State and Local Government police the way it happens in every nation of our nature (size and diversity). And I am not talking about vigilantes or ethnic vanguards but Constitutionally recognized law enforcement that are legally able to investigate and prosecute and legally empowered to bear weapons. How can a single institution under a single leadership structure be responsible for everything from protecting banks, opening VIP gates and chasing terrorists all over the countryside. The mandate is far too much, too hard and too costly. Restructure Nigeria and let Nigerians begin to resource their security through THEIR OWN POLICE at their various levels. Private enterprises and individuals should not be secured at public expense. Private security should be licensed instead to put more resources out there. Just tired of this self inflicted carnage and needless loss of lives due to a failed structure. Pity. |
sabreal:With all due respect Dino alone did not vote the APC into power.... Nigerians queued to vote them in. And you simply cannot kill a salesman for a bad product. When will Nigerians take responsibility for THEIR OWN ACTIONS. Another season is at hand and the media including this forum is filled with irresponsible Nigerians flying the kites of various candidates that have either not signified interest in contesting or demonstrated any credible competencies in handling the myriad of problems facing the country. And these failed citizens have already decided they will be voted President.... vociferously making their non points known. A few years down the line they will find another lighting rod in a Dino to blame for THEIR OWN ACTIONS. Nigeria is the way it is BECAUSE OF THE VAST MAJORITY OF NIGERIANS..... note the phrase VAST MAJORITY... because democracy remains a game of numbers, |
kingthreat:Since the time of the Bolsheviks, Finland has been on constant militarization. But on the surface it is not apparent. |
ThEGodFaThEr124:Russia has never defeated them. Even the Nazis had a bloody nose when they tried. Small country where everyone is a capable marksman and a deadly snow leopard. |
Finland. Another country that was dillydallying all these years instead of taking cover under the iron dome. Not knowing that that mad man in the Kremlin is living on borrowed time and dreams of a Soviet era before the curtain call. The United Kingdom left the EU without a shot fired. That is how civilized nations behave. They could have joined NATO and left whenever they wanted. Hope its not too late to shut the barn door. |
BuddhaPalm:Don't mind them. A country that has lost practically all its statutory foreign investment and eroded real productivity by hyper inflation occasioned by mindless borrowing that does not reflect in the GDP. An economy where 2 out of 3 naira flows via 'contracting'.... |
Further evidence of a failed state. Even countries at war and under sanctions are not as fubar ed as Nigeria under the APC maladministration. |
BritishNaija:They are so expensive to deploy you just do not know whether they are worth it. Probably costs more than an average Russian tank per pop. The best way to kill tanks on a massive scale remains from the air. |
shogsman:That is the government. What about the people. Is the government going to feed them with oil and gas. What about medicines, science and tech, commerce, industrial goods, banking services, education and whatever makes a nation competitive and prosperous. When a country is sanctioned, the people will suffer and that is what makes for instability, not the government or the few individuals in it. There will be huge job losses in all sectors, jobs the government will not be able to replace. That is what matters. Russia as a nation (not necessarily as a country) will be worse off. The sanctions they have gone through these past years over Crimea had already done a lot of damage to the people, keeping a whole swathe of them in penury while the rest of Europe has generally kept above water. It is only in a totalitarian society that the security of a country is more important than the security of its citizens, its nationals, the nation. Most Russians want to be closer to Europe and in the future when the Soviet era generation is gone they will eventually join the EU. Putin's time is coming to a gradual end and he knows it.... why the last kicks of a dying horse. |
einsteine:Clear. |
I hope life means life in this case. He should die in prison for the countless lives lost. Cannot imagine why he was not sentenced to death. |
Great day for Nigeria. Vigilance and advocacy on the other hand must remain absolute. |
Madaraire:False 9 things.... learnt that from his time at City I guess.... or the other way round.... ![]() |
Nice. |
It has been clear from the day he became President. His vision to reconstitute the Soviet Union. Just a land grab. NATO has been at the borders of Russia for decades so that is no excuse. Belarus will soon lose its government too. |
He should cross the Bridge to the Emirates. Arsenal badly needs a Top 9, 'La cassette' has refused to evolve to MP4. |
