pocohantas:Absolutely necessary. The media is no longer the watchman of society and the conscience of the ruling class. With unprecedented levels of decay, misrule and a failure of democracy across board you expect them to at least raise their voices. But there appears to be culture of silence which to me amounts to acquiescence.... their pedigree a far cry from the dying days of military rule and the early years of the present republic. Today you cannot air your views on radio without being shut down by cowardly media personalities, a foreign liberal social media outlet was banned for months without any form of solidarity from local media and the print media is just satisfied with reporting the daily carnage like some sick statisticians instead of critiquing the reasons and haranguing those who claim to be in charge of affairs. We've never had it so bad all round. National Assembly.... dead. Civil society..... dead. Political opposition.... dead. Activism..... dead. Labour Congresses.... dead. And the media.... the last card..... dead. |
You put a 9 year old and 7 year old in charge of a 1 year old outside the confines of your home..... People can be so careless.... Anyway as they say.... easy come, easy go. |
Mr. President. You simply do not have the capacity to lead this country, to solve a single one of its entrenched problems. Because you simply cannot take advice and respond to the citizenry which is the minimum requirement of leadership. We just hope we never again see this kind of government in our life time. |
Aburada:Not all of us. Some of us warned about the lack of capacity in governance in an unstructured system bound to fail. And here we are once again calling for the restructuring of this country if it hopes to move forward.... while I'm certain folks like you are set for another round of name dropping... presidential 'beauty contests' and serial ethnic profiling.... all useless to a hope of progress. |
A virtual biblical apocalyptic prophecy playing out before our very eyes in this country. We are no longer eating from the garbage heap, but selling ourselves into slavery and certain death. And yet when these causatives gather around once more to seek, to steal the only ticket we have for liberty, most will sell theirs for less than they sell their children..... worse still, others will give it out for free.... on a whim and a sentiment to those guaranteed to tighten their chains of bondage. The story of the black man, the African and the Nigerian.... |
akanbiaa:We had a chance at a better police service the way other advanced countries do by the endSARS protest to ensure finally that the institution is held accountable to the nation and its people and not only to its leaders and a select few. But as usual for every progressive thing... we bungled it. What do you expect the police to do than to support and obey their benefactors. Are most policemen today not sponsored into the Force by these same people. Are they not the same folks sending humongous numbers of names for slots in every employment opportunity.... Democracy is all about the progress, prosperity and peace of a whole country's citizenry. The day we rise up collectively to fight for that will be the beginning of our liberty. Until then let us be content with stories of woe day after day until we are fed up. |
Nancybolasimi:If I give you a list of military hardware that amount can get on the black market I will probably run foul of the authorities. It is seriously concerning, believe me. |
Check out my posts a few years back. I did say, that the black economy is becoming larger than the formal one. And once the resources available to criminal gangs exceeds that appropriated to security agencies....folks.... it is all over... That will be the definition of a completely failed State. |
Is it me that is hurting Nigeria?. No be una dey swim for corruption. And you know that talking to yourself amounts to madness. |
Thousands of athletes have been vaccinated round the world, what is Djokovic's problem. If he is given a waiver, what happens to the millions of ordinary citizens. The courts will be inundated with cases against the state. |
That is why there is an assistant and a whole litany of officials around to take over even if he drops dead. |
And yet they will say they are democrats. When they are under pressure they will say 'free and fair'. When they want their way they start using authoritarian language. Everyone is eligible to contest. That is what democracy is all about. A larger menu from which to choose and not a Hobson's choice. What are they afraid of. |
bcomputer101:"President....??"..... This one is not a President but a cabinet member. As useful as a Minister of the Senate.... serving the Executive. Let us be serious about what we call a President. |
This man certainly had a complex. What a pity. |
Chai.... what a tragedy... |
E don do. There is no cranial surgeon in Garuwa to shrink swollen heads. We know our nature. |
nakaman:Hope he gets his move to Aston Villa. Stevie G really improved the guy. |
Eguavoen in my candid opinion. Decided to jettison the fractured system of Rohr not minding the proximity of the tournament. Remember that most of these players have not played in the green-white for any other gaffer. I was also particularly pleased with the contribution of Joe Aribo. He played exactly what he does for Rangers and I think it solves most of our attacking midfield issues and should permanently bench the maverick Iwobi. Good going forward and is keen on falling back without the ball. |
Mandela887:He needs to leave Villareal. He needs a quality trainer or his career is stalled. |
When we were screaming for the sack of Rohr folks were up in arms and naysayers doomed our Afcon chances. Are these not the same boys.... but just look at the tactics.... a whole world of difference that enabled the Eagles truly fly. We may not win the trophy but today's account shows that the Swiss had a negative influence on the team, no doubt. |
But I expect Egypt to respond after the break. |
Not a bad display. Apart from a nervy Omeruo and a wasteful Moses Simon the others have been playing relatively well. |

Poor quality soccer. Extremely poor. Have to watch a bit of FAcup to avoid mental damage. Haba. |
Lung cancer and all manner of URT infections loading. The residents of that city just cannot escape this verdict. Those who care about their environment as a priority are not foolish. Health is wealth. |
Here we go, yet again. Even those on this forum you thought had some intellect are all over the place yapping like excited school kids. Still chasing individuals and dropping names as if it is what matters. Little learnt from history, little felt from the present realities. So we have gone through election after election and government after government yet the regression continues. Can we all stop for a moment to consider what democracy is all about as a first step. |
When appointments are principled as compensations, then anti corruption remains a mirage. Simply put. You expect them to pay themselves from whatever comes their way. |
There will be hope if we had a proper police service that is adept at investigation. But the promoters of the status quo prefer one moulded in the image of the colonialists as a tool for state suppression and coercion whose mandate begins and ends with 'keeping the peace'.. |
Beremx:Long time no see/hear/comment(ary). |
Oh my, my, my.... Oh my gosh.. What a loss. A legend is gone. A fine gentleman, great actor, humanitarian and activist for coloured causes. The world will miss him. |
Six years ago, few will have imagined Nigerians could have been so fed up with the President and his government by now. But we said so. All around is a sad tale of regret at the lack of capacity and lack of understanding of what makes for survival of this country. |
