Very pleasant development and shows what industrialization can produce. Unlike other economic sectors successful industrialists almost always reinvest into education because they know that is the foundation of their own sustainable ventures. That is why the Nigerian government must ensure those with a vision to produce things particularly global visionaries are supported in every logical way to succeed. When we talk about altetnative funding to university education this is one of the primary sources the developed world over enabling high quality research and development. Good one. |
sinola:Haba, it is normal nau. If mediocrity is okay, then competition is vain. His value to me as a Nigerian soccer fan and to his club that pays his wages is good performance. Outside that, I don't know him or am related with him. He is a performing artiste and that is why they get paid above the minimum wage. Even he must be delighted with his form and the accolades it attracts. He has worked on his past deficiencies and it is showing. |
At some point those who oppose the NIN will have to take responsibility for the consequences of their actions. If the government says it is a tool to aid the security of this country and perhaps aid in its development then we must all decide what we want and how much sacrifices we are prepared to make towards that. I understand the role of the judiciary as a bastion for democracy and civil liberties but they should also be in touch with good governance and properly balance the needs of individuals with the collective interests of society which government represents. They should not take the NIN program lightly. It is important at this time of high insecurity. |
Millimann:Don't mind him. If not for the international break won't he be at his club training ground at sunrise.... |
narutod7th:Hahahahaha...you're sick man ![]() |
His life, his vision, his decision. You want to be liberal and you have it. Let those who want to be Royal be. |
Cutehector:That is the way it should be. I am glad that those who "make" tangible goods are reaping the rewards for venture. Let us encourage the creation of a first world economy. |
HacheNoire:I just do not understand what all the noise they make is about. There is no product on earth that does not have industry leaders. The phone handset business is basically a duopoly between Samsung and Apple. No one complains. The automobile industry has Toyota on top for three decades now with Hyundai displacing Volkswagen recently in second. Entertainment has been dominated by Hollywood since the 50's. CocaCola is the market leader globally and if you arrive an airport you either fly a Boeing or an Airbus with Bombardier in third. Who is complaining. Only here in Nigeria government incentives to big industry and market leaders is vile. Say that to GE or General Motors or United Airlines that receive all manner of US government help in hard times to remain afloat and in the lead. We need big players who are interested in industrialisation and have an eye to global dominance for this country to develop and be taken seriously in the comity of nations. This corner shop, rat race mentality will do us no good. Burna boy just rose to global fame and it speaks for Nigeria in the entertainment industry. Who will question his dominance but when an industrialist does same folks begin to show poor, sentimental judgement. |
easyfem:How is an industrialist the problem of Nigeria. Sometimes I just wonder exactly how poor thoughts can sustain a progressive society. Is it government that you want to handle the cement industry. An industry they could not handle properly since independence until they capitulated in the late 80's... Some say he is a monopolist....in what I may ask. Is there any business he runs where he is the sole player Every business he runs has competition. Cement has the Lafarge Group (a multinational player) with some of its subsidiaries starting out way bhefore Damgote, and BUA Group. Are their prices substantially cheaper than Dabgote Cement? They say he will have a monopoly on the fertizer plant he launches soon forgetting Notore and other players who have been in business for years. They say he will have a monopoly on refined petroleum products but he picked up a license same time as others. Should he wait for them to get serious and perform? Can Nigeria afford the wait? No one talks of a monopoly in the telecom sector where there are only 4 players by law....just don't get what the recurring beef against Dangote is all about. |
oz4real83:By violence and force. Not by law or by justice. This kind of impunity is why self help continues and anarchy reigns. Once again concerning those in power: The institutions you railroad, the injustices you perpetuate will surely return many fold and inflict severe penalties on you when that power you wield is ended. |
The wider the cracks the better for everyone concerned. Said it many times. To remain credible going forward Mr. Tinubu must take a stand for Nigeria and the further he dissociates himself from this present misfiring government the better for his prospects. Even the blind can see a protest vote loading towards 2023. |
Baba Akintoye, Na by Force? When Akeredolu was arresting the bad ones among the evil herdsmen (the first Western State Governor to do that), when he went to Abuja to tell the president about the atrocities being committed by the bad ones among the herdsmen in his state, and just 24 hours ago, he arrested 100 cows for trespassing. He is the strongest voice among the south west Governors agitating for AMOTEKUN and openly berating the Fulani herdsmen, all this while he was a good man and a good Governor to you. But when he refused to join in the foolishness of disunity in our darling nation, as a learned fellow who knows the implications and as a former NBA Chairman, he is now being seen and labeled as a bad man. Na hypocrisy go kill many people for dis nation we swear down.
See what poor quality leadership at the centre has pushed Nigeria into. Never has this nation been so fractured. Never has it been this divided. Never has 'Nigerianism' been near dead. |
If Nacho arrives camp late he will sit on the bench. This is not good. |
Someone will come here and spin some baloney about how wealthy the lady was before the whole episode or that she was never a public servant hence deserving of those properties but ask them what the fellows concerned do for a living and nothing other corruption and influence peddling... |
Laboni:Word. These are the decisions the citizens should take as their counterparts do in developed climes. |
Foolishbuhari:Wrong info. The Dangote Complex comprising a 650kbbls per day refinery, a fertilizer plant (reputed to be the largest in the world - note that) and a petrochemical plant, has a nominal price tahe of 15billion dollars. The Refinery component itself is said to cost betwewn 9 and 10 billion dollars. The controversy is that the Port Harcourt refinery(ies) have a combined cap of 210kbbls per day which is at best a third of Dangote's. We donot know whether the Lazarus project covers both the old and new Portharcourt refineries (60 +150k caps). Now by simple quantitative reasoning a plant a third the size should be a third the cost meaning that a brand new plant in Portharcourt should not cost more than 3 billion dollars. Why try to wake up Lazarus for 1.5 billion dollars then. Now, all these figures are just speculative and merely academic but this is where good governace comes in. For people will continue to speculate until the facts are available and the facts will only be available if the government wants to be sincere. If Dangote can be so open and plain to the public about his refinery, the funding, the progress, the contracts, everything, though as a privaye pwrson he owes no one information, how much more a government elected by people using the reaources of the people and claiming to act to the benefit of the people. It simply means it is high time investigations by the citizens proceed to Italy to confront the contractor. This move by government is substantial in very many ways and can define our future going forward. |
When a government wants to be transparent in the face of serious controversy it can. When serious controversies about the cost of HS2 in the United Kingdom arose the government opened up and made transparent the entire contract process from concept to award simply because the cost was just humongous and people questioned value for money. 1.5 billion dollars is a lot of money by Nigeria's and this administration's ADMITTED standards. Why this government through its notorious agency, the NNPC expects right thinking Nigerians to roll over and play dead on this matter just befuddles me. When was.this contract conceived. When wasnit advertised, when were the bids made and how was the approval given. That is what a working democracy should produce so that the public through non state experts can vett these processes to guarantee the nation gets value for money. When these things are done in secret it makes government's work much harder. How then does it expect the citizens to understand the massive foreign loans it takes for other infrastructure. How does it expect the various labour unions to understand that there are no resources for other sectors. Why does our government make governance so difficult for itself by its inability to carry its citizens along and let them participate in the HARD decisions that affect them. In principle I just feel government has no business in business and our experiences so far in Nigeria has clearly shown that the conversion of crude oil to petro products HAS TO BE A BUSINESS for it to succeed. Government has issued licenses to private industry to that effect, so why this. These are the chain of events good governments explain, dialogue and townhall with citizens before taking important decisions. Not this government. |
KenModi:You will not understand the dynamics of a country founded by settlers, open to all immigrants and has to grant liberties to all. This paradox has the gun and mutually assured destruction as the only solution and that is what keeps America ticking. That is where the concept of the Cold war emerged, the Mexican standoff. It is they that truly understand that goverment exists only to organise society. They will never let anyone else have ultimate power over themselves both foreign and domestic. The typical American will never let go of his guns. It is his liberty. This unfortunate shooting will only convince many that the gun laws are too rigid, quite the opposite from what the rest of the world thinks. Unfortunately as well we in Nigeria are gradually getting there since we cannot make government work for our collective safety, pur liberties and prosperity, self help becomes more attractive every passing day. Our second amendment may not be an illusion too. |
NwaNimo1:Kai, warris dis !*?!!?*!! ![]() |
israelmao:Fact. Believe it or not. Some Nigerians like the country exactly the way it is. They cannot imagine a progressive, developing entity. |
Queenlovely:Try and always be on the side of what is right and noble. Without us government simply cannot exist but we can exist and survive without government. Humanity is the reason for government and their only function is to help organise society. They do us no favours please. |
phylshan:Indeed. |
fergie001:Wow. That's a good legacy. May they be comforted at this time. |
Totally concur. |
MufasaLion:Why not just ask the usual defensive question, 'Is any money missing', so we can all rest. No one forced him to display his wares I line ans follow it up with visuals in association with the President. He ia baiting the public and you wonder at the response. In a country like this at this point in time what did you or him expect... a round of applause. |
MufasaLion:Hope you know the tempestuous four million dollars recovered from the United Kingdom was not from James Ibori but from 'family and friends'. Once again. What does the man do for a living to clear the air about his legitimacy. |
iamDrRhymes:So, what does he do for a living since you are sure the man is legit. What does he fill on his tax form. |
Just so sorry for the hapless citizens of this beleaguered country. With poverty at record levels, poor decisions at the polls is almost inevitable.... .. but once again is this not the grand plan of the owners of Nigeria....to starve the people so badly they cannot think straight, casting their votes with their bellies instead of their brains... ...what a terrible, vicious cycle of depravity. |
DaddyRochie1642:But it is not in good taste. A month after the fact is too short ro make a media meal out of it. Poor judgment. |
Gravity. Its all about physics. |
