FBIBOT:This is the tipping point I spoke about many years ago, about the dangers of a black state. Happened in Somalia, happened in central America, Guatemala specifically. Believe me, the collapse of authority is not what any citizen of Nigeria should welcome. We need to rise up and direct government, this government to take proper control of this dangerous, high speed, cascading turn of events. Clearly, structures and systems of governance are failing and as I pointed out, when criminal elements can match law enforcement dollar for dollar as resource transfer through kidnappings, robbery, fraud, smuggling and drugs are effected. When the demographic goes black, that is the sheer number of outlaws at any one point in time exceeds the number of law enforcement agents or the capacity of the system to apprehend, process and warehouse them then the system is in imminent collapse. When the quantity and quality of the tools of the trade, guns, vehicles, communication equipment, stores are in favour of criminal elements as manifest by the sacking of police stations and the raiding of armouries, destruction of stores and equipment, then the situation is critical. What we clearly see these days is that the government has lost so much control it has no option than to choose its battles. Unfortunately the choices it makes are steeped in the same sentiment that has caused this state of insecurity in the first place. I did warn that government not go round Nigeria lighting fires where there is dry brush and crackling tinder but instead douse those parched places with the water if peace and justice in wisdom because it could not afford crises everywhere simultaneously. I did warn the citizens of this country to demand a concise, regular update about the 'state of the nation' from government, that is a barometer of livability of the Nigeria state and press for the total restructuring of this country to give it a chance of survival like any organization struggling to survive in changing climes. But some are threatened by this and their selfish, sentimental interests now threaten us all. If changes are not made quickly to the direction this country drifts we will surely lose it all. Nuff said. |
Restructure Nigeria to give states financial liberty to source for their income. This is the spur for creativity and the only guarantee for security as the right people, technocrats will be elected into office and ensure their localities are safe and fertile for business thoroughly devoid of the poverty inducing extremism Kano is slowly turning out. The whole of Arabia was once hostile to foreigners as they jealously guarded their culture until they hit a sudden epiphany, a future life without oil riches and over the past three decades they have vigorously opened up, gradually rolling back the cozy handshakes between church and state and embracing aliens of diverse cultures. Even Saudi Arabia is evolving into two distinct nations, one to continue to be the cradle of the great faith while the other must get to work to secure the future prosperity of the kingdom just as the Vatican separated itself from mainstay Italy many centuries ago. It is clear no one can survive and thrive without interactions and the government and the people of Kano must come to terms with this fact sooner than later before they fall far behind neighbouring states more open and more liberal. It is clear that the structure we operate presently that gives too much leverage to ideologues is unsustainable. |
Chief, your report is partially incorrect. Donald Trump cancelled the orders for two new 747-800's from Boeing citing cost and instead tjhe Air force bought two new, but disused 747-800's from a defunct (I think) Russian air charter and are at this time being retrofitted. We have a tree hugger in the White House and when he sees the amount of gas this bird will guzzle and the CO2 it will pump into the astmosdphete in flight, he is likely going to cancel. |
SpecialNwa:Back again this evening to this topic and from the bulk of responses you can deduce that the majority as usual is wrong. Contrary to po-op (popular opinion) I rather support the uncle...simply because of the mother's response strangely. When you sit back and scan the scenario from above you begin to see why the family as a whole is under pressure. The mother, the patriarch is virtually saying 'no problem my son, go solo, don't mind or care for us... be selfish' While the uncle is clearly making a call to sacrifice, the kind of call that tests the values of the young man. I believe the truth of this matter lies somewhere between the mother and the uncle. The fact that help eludes them all says so much. They seem to be caught in a bubble of self, which only sees inadequacies and scarcity. The question that should be asked is, do they have the courage to burst that bubble and start making sacrifices for one another as beyond. I say today, there are folks out there whose parents are being graciously taken care offmby others, even strangrets because of the open, sacrificial, giving hearts of even their lineage past. There are people today who have buried their parents without spending a penny, wedded, sent their kids to school and other important activities of their lives without spending a die because someone somewhere was of immense value to someone or some people. We are created as social beings, our very survival on earth depends on solidarity. Looking beyond the travails of this young man to the wider society you realise that we are still a long way from creating a socially secure and stable society. For the young man. He should be careful because who goes round.... I don't call on him to resign but I call on him to find the ways and means of breaking that cycle of dependency by value based sacrifices. |
Vaiki:Indeed, very poor thinking. But it goes further than just being a 'Father Christmas' persona. Ultimately everyone should strive to be 'the MVP of as many as possible'. Not only does this bring the great leverage, security and satisfaction possible, but people of the widest value incidentally are the wealthiest anywhere they are found. If you cannot transmitt positive virtue to as many as possible you cannot escape the crushing weight of life. That is exactly why the young man is under pressure. He questions WHY he has to give. This MENTALITY has not enabled him open up to other solutions and leverage on other resources most of which are not domiciled with him. As some alluded here. When you make it a habit of lifting others you can never be alone or in need. I perceive the self mode is the default processor operating in the family. He has the opportunity to break that cycle if at all to ensure when his time of old age comes he does not turn this kids to his personal pension managers, funny enough as some kids are raised to become. |
And if the supermarket chain collapses what happens. |
In the future Nigerians will vote for leaders THAT HAVE PROVEN SOLUTIONS AT HAND. Not those who appears at the last minute to sell smoke. The days of sentiment are limited. |
ednut1:Make a list of all those part of this regime and all those who support it presently and hope they do not speak up against misdeeds of any future government after 2023... Does that make sense to you.... |
Enjoy your government. Enjoy your corruption. Before 2015 it was the President and the goverment's fault. Today it is all Nigerians that are at fault. A people that are either so ignorant or too sentimental can never experience a better tomorrow. Poor quality citizens. |
That is a glowing picture of how democracy has retreated in this dispensation and how these so called leaders are all towing the line of autocracy. He wants to be loved and respected by all. Then he should not be a governor but an Emir or Oba or King....or some despotoic ruler of a communist entity. However the first thing he should realise is that there is nowhere in the democratic world where political office holders are loved by everyone, even those with the highest standards of living. The second thing he should realise is that above all he is a public servant. And that servants by nature are not loved but appreciated. Love is for relationships and the people have no relatioinship with him outside his ability to 'organise society'. But appreciation comes in the form of votes, a payment for services well rendered. That is all. No politician should expect anything but stress between elections. That is the job. After all we give ypou billions of naira to play with, bulletproof cars, luxurious apartments, overseas medical attention and even ridiculous pensions, yet you expect your ego to be massaged. You guys must be lunatics. |
PAWG:His speed was the primary reason but not the only reason. Few people realise how dangerous some of these truck drivers can be on those major highways. If a truck overtakes suddenly as you approach and the road happens to be of poor quality at that point you are done. Its either the shoulders are bad or development (trading, parking, etc) extends right to the tarmnac or as frequently seen in that part of the country, vegetative overgrowth, there is no avoiding a head on incident no matter how slow you drive. |
Stockquality:Didn't you read where it said the Lexus swerved onto the road shoulder to avoid the the oncoming truck and on trying to regain the road got caught in a shoulder rut causing it to spin and present sideways to the Sienna. The perpendicular force caused the split like a martial artist splitting as board with his fist. Few vehicles are reinforced to withstand that kind of side impact damage and that age and type of vehicle has limited, if not ant side airbags. Surprised he was brought out alive. Bad road shoulder accidents are just too common in Nigeria and the authorities should note they road shoulders are there for incidents like this amongst other reasons. I had a similar spinoff in 2001 on Calabar - Ikom loosing two tyres due to jagged shoulders while avoiding massive unexpected potholes at high speed. At the end of the day these so called roads are not worth the risk. They are not in any condition for high speeds. That is the bottom line of his death. |
Said it that fixed wing aircraft are not the platforms for counter insurgency operations. The Super Tucanos will suffer the same difficulties in targeting and engaging these highly mobile, amorphous units. I won't be surprised if they simply ran out of fuel trying to engage, as difficult as chasing a goat in a car. |
lexy2014:I think this is the question. When we say the defective structure of Nigeria is the problem, the only problem and the biggest problkem, day after day it will become clearer to the average, ignorant citizen which I hope will spur action. This simply has shown that without restructuring no elected govenor can secure his state. The federal government can deliberately fuel insecurity in any territory it desires. |
HabzinhoMacquin:Who else. He will have given an arm and a leg to get them to that back water. |
Classic pump and dump...on unwary suitors. How many Bundesliga players do well overseas. For that amount he should singlehandedly win titles which he is not doing in the German league nor in Europe for Norway. He is good no doubt but not a substitute for the multiple players his wages will pay. Football remains a team sport. Germany saw that last night. |
Not a new story. The suspected Dubai connection has been on for more than a decade now. |
Tobinrobin:No it is improving.....Hope there is water in the United Kingdom. |
Kondomatic:Why not. It was not a people centric establishment. We said it from the outset to the vexation of a number of folks here. Origins are important for foundations, foundations are important for achievement. The foundations of Smotekun was government so it will serve government purposes only, that is the pleasures of whoever sits on the throne. King Louis did not found the French revolution. He will not have willingly placed his head in a guillotine. Folks, no meaningful, people centric change is possible in Nigeria by those who benefit from the status quo. Democracy must first work in name and in deed before it can work to better Nigeria. |
MetroBaba1:Well....it was my fault... for insisting the leading candidates begin to put forward their ideas about how to tackle the worst of the challenges facing the nation. We can all see the quality on offer... what can I say.... Hobson's choice. |
Mr Amaechi the National Assembly did their job on this matter by exposing the inner workings and intents of that deal and the fact that the Chinese find this repugnant shows all is not well. |
Offpoint1:He refused moving past 27 years old so nature has taken his case up. Totally agreed with Osimen though. |
EmekaBlue: Hahahahaha....the man for tanda for centre circle with binocular.... |
What if you or your partner are specialists. Without being able to answer quickly at anytime could leave both of you worse for wear particularly at night. |
Fair enough. Though his dad has a lot of responsibility due to his capacity, it is proper for his son to be withdrawn in such circumstance of rising abductions for his personal safety and that that of other students who will become targets of opportunity because of the lad. As an ordinary citizen if my child was in the same a school with the child of a governor in that theatre of abductions I will be wise to withdraw him or her just for that fact. I see nothing wrong here. |
Hmmm...so which code controls his own conduct. |
Game over. I enjoyed it. Glad soccer is back to Lagos. Well done Eagles. Can't wait for the world cup qualifiers to resume.... .....but NFF....the pitch... duh NTA....mbok hire Supersports next time... |
SaintAlbert53:My eye is on him. Enyimba has a gem. |
They have started playing for the fans. Fair enough. Done and dusted. |
Men, this Onuachu fella is huge. How doea he move that bulk around. Not soccer stature at all. |
