Still City's league to lose. You just feel they have more in the tank... bigger squad, better manager, done it more recently.... and that game in hand. Liverpool 'feels' like that fantastic tennis player that constantly serves to stay in the game behind an in form Novak Djokovic.... interesting games ahead. |
Proof that this is a national problem and not just a Rivers State problem. Is someone not fed up and ready to demand for the restructuring of this country so that the police force is decentralized to state and county (local government levels) to increase the density of policing and create specialized units that can handle such tragedies. With half of the 300,000+ strong police force in the homes, offices and vehicles of politicians and the other half in the thousands of road blocks scattered on the streets and highways of the nation, there is a huge void filled with wanton crminality this present structure is not engineered to handle. There is no country of this size and this diversity that has a unitary law enforcement structure. It can never work. The presence of the military and other para military agencies frequently doing what is essentially 'police work' is proof the time to restructure our law enforcement architecture is way past due. |
This league is clearly City's to lose. You can just feel the momentum with them. |
tactius:Only the uneducated and ignorant will continue to back subsidy. Let them just take a look at Venezuela. |
I Dothraki:Oga, it depends on how you obtained your degree. If you grew up with a desire to know how things worked, observed the constraints of nature and the present limitations of man and developed a passion for solving them then you will have seen in every engineering theory the seeds for solving them. The problem with most of us is that we put the cart before the horse. We seek inspiration after education. That is completely wrong. Education is supposed to tool you, equip you for taaka yoi.are inspired to solve. Then you will not experience the 'boredom' of what is really 'pointless' education. |
Knew he would. Congrats to a real badass. |
Tragic but carefully notice the narrative and discover parts of what is wrong with this country. 'Many workers died as a result of a furnace accident...' Management does not care about workers...some paid as low as 850 naira a day. What kind of nonsense reporting is this. What has their wage structure got to do with the safety regime going on at the company. Is the reporter insinuating that if the workers had been paid more they will not have died or will have willingly sacrificed themselves to the death. We have taken semtiment to seriously absurd levels and this is causing terrible problems in our society chief amongst which is our inability to focus for performance. At the end of the day one can be sure the narrative will change from a safety governance issue which will be swept under the carpet at the cost of purely an economic one. The compamy will pacify with money and will NOT make the necessary safety changes and everyone will walk away smiling. Nigerians must develop a culture that is values oriented rather than 'moneycentric'. These so called foreigners know what makes us tick and they will exploit it to the fullest. They deliberately depress wages so thay any little leverage gives them significant power and influence. If we are a people prepared to make the sacrifices to create a values based society these people will respect us and adopt the standards that are right and just. We must evolve away from money, money, money. It is killing us. |
IamD18:What side do you require. Is the blood and gore not enough for you. Please grow a conscience. |
jom28gy:Una don start. What is airport for. Enugu, Portharcourt, Owerri, Uyo all have airports and are within a ahort drive. There are many more important things to take time and treasure please. It should not be in any consideration for another decade or two. |
Zimbwabean youth changed their government..... Algerian youth changed their government.... Sudanese youth changed their government..... Nigerian youth change their countries.... They run, yes run away from their challenges... |
Mr. Elumelu. You were a banker. How did you see loan sharks back then who will readily give you funds without conditions..... such is China.... the day of reckoning will come.... and you will seek the West to protect you from the slavery of the East. I prefer receiving funds from a bank that tells me what to do and how to live my life than one that doesn't. Africa is not ready to make the sacrifices to develop. Why won't they dislike one that tells them the truth. |
So true. So sad. |
My concern will be the refereeing. African refs are notoriously poor and when north african countries host tourneys the refs get even more sinister. And when Egypt is involved in anything football you can expect CAF to support criminal refereeing by looking the other way. Egypt will win the Cup by hook or crook. Other teams including Nigeria are just in for the ride. Ever since they were announced as replacement hosts I have lost interest. Egypt should never have been given the rights. They have not been neutral, fair play candidates in my opinion having watched African football for about 3 decades now. |
And they boast about ease of doing business while making port activities in Nigeria a cartel. Only restructuring can change Nigeria so that investors deal with Nigeria on a state by state basis. Nigeria can NEVER develop in a situation like this. It is clear the Federal government is complicit in destroying this economy. |
In June 2015 when electoral capital was at its peak, when faces were freshest, when the now famous 'body language' was the national song, when the air of invincibility was storming.... when 'rapture' was about to take place and the chants of 'messiah' rented the air....then.... it would have been possible, perhaps even desirable together with the other tough structural economic decisions such as floating the naira and privatising the NNPC (government oil interests). But we all knew it was not possible then due the origins of this government particularly the propaganda surrounding fuelsubsidy and the crippling corription of the previous administration manifested in everything from the putroght denial of subsidies made by the present Petroleum Minister to the sibsody removal protests the ruling party was massively involved in during its opposition hey days. It was too much an embarrassement to do an immediate volte-face so the nation has steadily economically bled into a coma. Now the chickens are home, debt is crippling, smugglers are cashing in billions and the tax payer is subsidising petrol used as far off as Njamena and Yaounde while he is heaping foreign debts to the billions by the day. If subsidy has been removed piecemeal the least we will have achieved would be a 50 percent cut, probably saved some half trillion naira but more importantly the worst of the adjustments will be gone by now, withdrawal symptoms will have abated, high inflation will have begun to fall. Best of all the investment required to create a viable, virile industry will have berthed our shores. The figures will have been attractive enough to spur new, independent refining capacity. It is never late but the reality of the situation is that it will be very hard to implement now and very hard to swallow. If a sick man elects to do a costly surgery to live, it will be hard enough for the family to bear. If he is persuaded to do it after years of costly chemotherapy that has failed you can imagone how devastated the family will be..... then just pray that after the surgery he doesn't succumb to death....hmmm |
Can we see how opposition politics works for the people. Normally he wouldn't want to release details of expenditure.... no one will. But his position is held in a power flux by crushing pressure from his opponents so he has no option but to make logical, sensible moves. If he were to be a rubber stamp, what will make him do this, who will challenge him to do this. Can the public depend on his 'integrity' to do this...then why has fuel import records by the NNPC been shrouded in secrecy, Mr President's medics, and many popular books yet to be open in the life of this administration. Folks only power on power produces democratic gains. Say no to dictatorship, a one party state, the subjugarion of the other arms of government and.... and.... and a rubber stamp Parliament. Folks, power only answers to power. All your government has achieved so far has been because they were 'forced' to. All you have not seen and enjoyed are things s due to your inability to compel them. |
SmartMen:Good one. They make IVM look like a car dealership. You build a factory, energise it, employ workers and produce stuff, yet they are not satisfied. What remains to fully manufacture is reverse engineering of critical components. Is it necessary to IVM, no. As long as they roll out vehicles and make profits, no problem. It is up to government and private business to tap into the value chain and seek to make the components presently imported. There are few vehicles that are completely manufactured at any one country thoughtless of anyone industrial facility. Anything from BMW's to Lamborghini's, from Airbus 320's to Boeing 737 Max 8's to the now retired Space Shuttles to the most advanced fighter jet in the world, Lockheed Martin's F35 Joint Strike Fighter are made from components from a wide variety of contractors, companies and countries. Nothing new here. Manufacturing is an international global business. |
As I will always tell people. Development can never be about roads, bridges, schools, electricity and hospitals. Anything that does not create a direct route to the development of human capital, the establishment of institutions that guarantee equity, justice and peace is just a waste of time. 'Oh Amaechi built schools, expanded the road network, etc, etc. Wike is Mr. Projects... bla, bla, bla'. Just wait and see how history will make a mockery of these so called achievements simply because what was really needed was not done. Then it will call into question what real leadership is all about and then it will focus on the real picture of how much real progress society has made long after the roads have deteriorated and the schools fallen apart. Real leadership is why Amaechi struggles to re-emerge, to do the real jobs real leaders do, things he did not see in his 8 years in power, things that would have defined his legacy. They cannot see it while in power. Neither can Wike seenit now. Neither can President Buhari, neither did Jonathan or Mr. Obasanjo. Only when they are out of power will they see how badly they performed, how unimportant were their pursuits and how fleeting was their power. That is why it is critical the people act as the eyes of government, the conscience of leaders and the will of them that will stand the test of history. Our people are indeed letting their leaders down. We are not guiding them aright. Leaders are like babies. They just cannot reason aright when the toga of power is placed within their grasp.... enough said. Rivers is today what it is.... because of the will of the average Rivers man... and woman. |
But will you have said this if you had lost Mr. Wike. Because I don't think it is in your purview to regulate society. Both you chaps are merely the catalysts for unrest amd violence. It is the people I am concerned about. The citizens of Rivers State who should refuse to answer your calls of vice, both of you, but rather come together and agree on what development and progress singularly means to them and apply their minds towards that objective. History will certainly not be kind to both of you as individuals. |
G KingLennon:Well we are not a socialist country and I hope we will never be but there are policy programmes government or the people.can drive to change the narrative. |
Ignorant folks. Well built pools have constant recirculation, filtration and chemical dozing systems that keep them clean. You are more likely to suffer from chlorine burns than bio hazards. |
Might as well head to the beach for a well deserved summer holiday in spring... |
BabaCommander:Oga, democracy is fought for not given. I don't know anywhere in the world where democracy is thriving today that the citizens have not fought to bed in the past and continue to water with their blood in the present. Given the liberties the people of Sudan, Cameroun and other long standing dictatorships accord their emperors there is no doubt Donald Trump, Theresa May and Emmanuel Macron would wish the best of both worlds, that is a docile, ignorant people in a deceloped, thriving envelope. Such are the desires of the average Nigerian when he sots daily to blame government for everything while himself does absolutely nothing to change the stagus quo. The truth is simple. A people cannot experience a better country than the sum of their collective intellects and wills to overcome their personal prejudices Here Africa fails remarkably. |
omohayek:Oga stop the nonsense talk. He is right. Without equity there is no country thoughtless of democracy, thoughtless of progress or development. Does it take a genius to know that the lack of equity is what is keeping this nation down. The choices are stark. You either restructure to take tribe out of the equation completely or if you won't restructure then give everyone (every tribe) an opportunity at power then tribe talk ebbs away from our national lexicon. A black man has led America. Now blacks are less agitated about power than before because they have seen the extent and limitations of it. Same for the South-South Nigeria, the agitations are dying out. To get everyone's attention off tribe and onto the nation equity must be paramount. This false narrative about competence and performance is just that. We have had four years of so called 'competence and performance' but without equity where has been the progress?. Nigeria is practically no better than it was in 2015. All indices of living are down, instiutions are not better, stronger and more independent than they were, there is no perception that we are developing. This is the real situation. Until equity is upheld, the nation will be like and engine with one or two blown gaskets, spluttering and stuttering, plenty of noise and smoke but very little forward movement. It is just a pity quite a number of Nigerians donot know what it takes to build nations and others know but will not bring their minds to accept what is right being comfortable in failure, beclouded by primordial feudal thinking. Abeg if you think you own Nigeria, can determine who has and has not what, please carry your load and stop bothering the rest right thinking people. Enjoy your sorry state. |
[quote author=Ewedegubbler post=77439560]Barca doesn't normally go full monte on away games in the champions league. wait for your koboko at Camp nou... na there una go collect serious punishment..[/quote So they said about PSG. Football is not quantitative reasoning. Anything can happen. |
One thing for sure. United won't be worse than this in the second leg. |
Once again I cannot hold back my anger at what this criminal policy of fuel subsidy is all about. I cannot for the life of me understand how the ordinary citizen has been conned by the recklessly corrupt establishment to continue this robbery. Can you imagine how the so called subsidy payments have escalated to over 700 billion in the year under review due primarily to smuggling. At a time when the government is borrowing willy nilly to float the budget and considering raising VAT and seeking to craft other taxes. Folks, what means is that the government is effecribely borrowing money and handing it over to smugglers. Now, what happened to smugglers in 2017, where were they only to arise massively in 2018. I will tell you. The NNPC is what happened. As usual the cartels within that criminal organzarion are directly responsible for smuggling. They know the what, when and where of these products being the sole importers. The secrecy this present government has accorded the subsidy regime will only lead to massive losses to the Nigerian treasury and deepening poverty to the average citizen. Citizens should understand and consider this. To condone the continuation of this subsidy regime in its present form is like a country paying social security without a knowledge of its population demographics or the documentation of its citizens. It will lead to massive corruption, gouging of the system and terrible losses. Nigerians should realise that on balance petroleum subsidies are making Nigerians poorer and a few corrupt government officials rich. |
This man again.... Ronaldo. He is becoming a danger to team sport.... |
soberdrunk:My thoughts exactly. |
Anyone is fine with me. Whoever will not hand over the keys of the Legislature to the Executive. We need to keep that arm of government alive and kicking..... for all our sakes. |
yinkus6750:This should be the position and a wise point of view from an educated mind. Unlike the Executive that is completely an APC affair thus having an agenda completely driven by APC ideology, the 'House' contains proprtional representation of other parties with a mix of other agendas. Without a governing majority the APC cannot have all its way and if the management of both Houses are not decided in a way that preempts cooperation then there will be debilitating confrontations in the course of the 9th Assembly and everyone loses. The horse trading going on right now is the way the leadership should be decided not by authoritarian fiat by one one individual or external bloc. The Legislature is not going to nominate Ministers and Administrators for the Executive, the Executive should not meddle in the composition of the Legislature in return. Both institutions are distinct and should reflect a tendency to checkmate and supervise one another. |
