Freedom of association is enshrined in tne constitution. Making Nigeria a one party state does not advance democracy neither will it develop Nigeria. Why is the meaning of this bitter blackmail for everyone to be in the APC. Why is the ruling party so intolerant of alternate associations, views and ideologies. If Nigeria cannot embrace multiparty politics, so be it. We should just continue on the path of mediocrity. Since 1999 II've never known those in power to be this bitter and vindictive. It is politics for heaven's sake. You have the government, what else do you want. Rochas should face his mandate at the Senate and leave others to self determination. This kind of mentality is not political but primordial, not of servants which politicians should be but of kings, empires and emperors who consider territory and the conquest of peoples the sole resson for power. Politicians woo opposing camps to attain power, emperors threaten and lay siege to grab power. The ruling party should identify clearly with one of two ideologies so Nigerians may know and understand what they are all about. |
The amount of money spent on repairing this road in the past forty years will have built a viable rail line between Lagos and Benin several times over. There are some things about this country that just defy understanding. Sometimes I just wonder how this country can produce such a depth of ignorance amongst so many, many people. If I was in government I will suggest all interstate highways be sold to state governments and focus all attention entirely on rail transport starting with the most congested routes to gain economic traction and build development momentum from there. |
I wonder why the private sector has not stepped in to set up some health/life insurance or general insurance scheme to take care of our sportsmen and performing artistes. No doubt the market is huge from Nollywod to soccer stars, all high net worth individuals. The government via the Legislature can step in to pass edicts to ensure compulsory insurance deductiins from earnings and entitlements (in the case of sportsmen on national assignments). The fact of the matter is simple. If these public figures can demand for public assistance in times of crises and receive public funds in most successful appeal cases then the public has a right to demand for some sort of accoutability and probity when these folks are at the peak of their earning powers. Just my thoughts. We cannot continue to suffer these recurring embarassing situations when social media especially is daily inundated with pictures and stories of celebrity extravagance. |
Primitive politicking that engenders a desperate winner takes all scenario. No wonder our democracy is characterised by wide spread violence. |
delugajackson:Oga leave that matter. It is her, you and I that are responsible for this mess. The aggregate of the values of a people is what makes a nation and creates the heavenly or hellish experiences. If you cannot fight for a just, plural society you will never experience better. Elections have just ended, you perhaps voted, what are the results. Where is the gain... Look at how the people, the youth of other nations conduct themselves.. Always at the front of change, innovation, development. What are our youth doing. Just waiting to be victims of a system they can change. Nigerians are like farmers who wake early and return home late but at the farm thy sit idle all day long wondering why the weeds donot turn to crops. How will they. My friend, you and I are government. Yoir state governor is a Professor, a former consultant to a multinational. His depity is a Professor as well. All the elements are there for development. Only you and I necessary to catalyse the process of government through organised demands are absent from the table. |
AutoJoshNIG:The jokes will be ceaseless. |
Fantastic result for the neutrals. The return leg will be explosive. City indeed is not impregnable. |
I've always hated this devilish contraption called VAR. It has made Laliga unwatchable. FIFA is making and has made a big, big mistake with it. |
This is the real test of governance, the welfare of the people, that no government at any kevel over any period of our chequered history has been able to better since the British handed over our destiny. This is not living. This is merely existing. Even animals sleep at their leisure. I have never seen a lion asleep on the trail of an antelope or a cow asleep at the behest of a herdsman. This is tragic. |
mrZENographer:Ans then when I ask you what are the Commamdments you are expected to obey, you either refer me back to the Laws given to Moses and the tribes of Israel or some laws concocted by some pastor or church. Very few are seriously interested in what God is saying.... commanding. Without knowing through the Spirit of God what God is actually saying at that moment is like a blind man shopping. It cannot be a complete experience and it will be error strewn and hazardous. It is only the Spirit of God that can traverse times and seasons and understand the complexities of cultures and traditions throughout the world and will deliver to your soul an answer, an instruction or a commandment that will both satisfy God, His Word (Jesus Christ) and edify you according to His purpose. All these mundane arguments about trousers and skirts shows how shallow, near sighted and narrow minded we all are. You can never follow the law alone and survive. Ask His Spirit for answers. He is your Counselor. |

See the Christians we have here all muddling up aesthetics with functionality. Think a lot deeper. Consider these things carefully and you come to realise that like so many things in the faith, it is less about the item or object but more about the purpose and intent. That is why since Christ died He made a promise, thàt the Holy Spirit will take the lead in deciding matters and approving intentions to fulfil both the law on one hand and the Will of God in the other. So I absolutely agree. Christianity has ceased to be a religion. It now operates on the basis of ones personal relationship with the same God who gave the children of Israel the Laws. So why not ask Him if that trouser you want to wear is appropriate. That is what I will do if I were a lady. That is what I do regarding important things in my life. Ask. But folks don't want to relate with God so they get swayed and swept up by all sorts of doctrines and ideas of their fellow men. From my experience walking with God, I will tell you this and listen very carefully.... There will be those who He will permit to 'wear this trouser or that trouser or this hat or that coat'. There will be others who He will NOT permit to wear this trouser and that trouser, that hat and this coat. Follow through and obey and build a strong, lasting relationship with Him full of grace and goodness. Disobey the prompting of the Holy Spirit and watch your relationship degrade, decay and ultimately die like that of Adam and Eve at the beginning. The choice is really ours. Since Jesus died and rose again God has not forced anyone to do anything. All these laws are the creations of man. |
Democracy is competitive in Abia, just not virile. Federal politics is much too overbearing. It will take a lot to dislodge the PDP unfortunately. |
No one is interested in nation Nigeria nor her people... only power ro promote racial idealistic supremacy.... story of a Nigeria that has never experienced a better tomorrow. Nonsensical, reprobate people. |
kema01:Indeed the angle of attack of chopper rotors leans to the front.... because that is the general direction of flight.... but I thought this is only engaged once the aircraft lifts off..... Blade strikes should be unheard of, to a crew member?....next to impossible. The aircraft was either faulty or someone remarkably careless. |
Luvinghubby:Funding without a strategy is like water into a basket. Strategy without debate is like turning a basin into a basket. Debate without a virile Legislature is like trying to fetch water without a basin. A virile Legislature is what this government has always opposed, fought and campaigned against. The debates that would have preceded the appropriation of the funds will have brought to the fore the real challenges facing the security apparatus of this country and will have proferred the best solutions to tackle them. In a democracy NO ONE simply knows it all. We are suffering from a paucity of ideas on how to succesfully run the ship of state and how to develop this nation. We are more than foolish for not making use of the available tools to do that. |
Like I said, practically all the indices for life and living are tanking. The only reason I support this government back for another four years is continuity and stability in the economy and the polity that underpins it. However this comes at a high price of sharp criticism day after day and folks who criticise those who criticise the non performance of government should be considered enemies of the Nigerian state. |
Everyday the country remains in shambles the cost of repairs continue to escalate like a loan gone bad. The day emergency restructuring surgery is required to prevent certain death of the country I hope we will all have the fortitude to bear the crushing bill. Let Nigerians continue playing the ostrich, we shall see.... |
The last person who advanced the station was Ben Bruce. He went through hell and high water and was eventually kicked out. A few years later if memory serves me well a proposal was made to privatise it but was rejected by government on the premise that government needed a media house it controlled . There you are. NTA is government and a reflection of government in everyway.... steady decline. |
Looks very far from completion. Structural elements are easy. For anyone who has built, you'd know the cost, effort and time ahead are in excess of those behind. |
The United States people elected Donald Trump about three yesrs ago or so. They haven't let him aday of peace despite a robust dconomy, unemployment at a fifty year low, the lowest number of troops and conflicts abroad in twenty-five years and security well in check. In Nigeria almost all indices of life and living have worsened since 2015 yet self censorship is become the tradition. The blame for the poor performance of leadership in this instance lies squarely on the main opposition, PDP who have been more concerned with perks, power and privilege rather than forge good governance by solid objective oposition. They are letting this government off far too easy in comparison to what they experienced in late 2014 and through 2015 esoecially when the APC was formed. They have snother opportunity through the election of the principals of the 9th Assembly. Let us see whose or what side they are collectively on, the people or their pockets..... |
Poor selection by Emery. Continues to chop and change, destabilize the team. Team slow to the game, not winning balls, no forward push, as usual making average opponents look good. May well lose today's game. |
Fair list. Puddings such as eba, poundo or fufu are not for desk bound workers or couch potatoes. Their ultra high caloroe content will indeed shorten your lifespan. If you donot do physical, outdoor work just stay with the Asians and eat rice. Egusi is indeed bad new more than once a week, so are foods rich in palm oil. The key here is moderation. But the really dangerous foods that should be avoided in any quantity are not on that list unfortunately. |
Only restructuring can save Nigeria. |
JoanHicks:On the runway taxiing.... What if the pilot is about to open the throttles and these hoodlums strike before the aircraft begins to roll, the pilots may not even see the cargo door warning lights till the aircraft lifts off and then they will not be able to pressurise the aircraft or worse cargo becomes loose and alters the CG of the plane with catastrophic consrquences on take off. Honestly it takes a lot to survive and make it in one piece to old age in Nigeria. Just back from Portharcourt. Investment is getting more and more treacherous outside the state capital. Couldn't persuade my partners to new frontiers. Wait, wait and wait while the security bill continues to escalate. Nigeria is creeping towards 'completely ungovernable, totally lawless'. |
Another reason why a rubber stamp parliament is a threat to a functiinal democracy. Nobody, even a saint wants the pains of scrutiny. Power corrupts. That is why power must be checked. Since tneconcept of 'take a bow' has turned petty criminals into public servants, it will turn budgets into treasure troves. |
otiwisdom:The simple solution is to ignore offending posts and posters. I do that all the time. The whole thing will die down. Is anyone's name ''Afonja' or 'Ipob' so why bother to reply and set fuel to fire. Who benefits from all these except the mods who look to drive traffic with uninspiring drivel. Virtually all the intelligent folks we used to know and converse with on this forum over many years have left. I never knew anyone in person but through conversation you know people in spirit.... its sad |
tesppidd:There is opposition everywhere in the world of democratically governed countries. Obama faced a hostile Republican led Senate and still got his pet Health Care Reform through, Trump is presently facing a hostile Democratic led House of Reps against his Berlin Wall. Theresa May has an internal rebellion within her own party. They still soldier on. So what is your problem. All these countries realise the need to hold power in a flux and ensure democracy is protected by clearly delineating the power blocs of the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary. Your principal is always looking for ways to undermine other institutions that are created to hold him to account, why? Why does he want totalitarian rule? What does he need more power above that he already has, for? Why should he be selecting who becomes head of the legislature that is essentially multiparty in complexion.... Other countries develop with stern opposition, why can't Nigeria. The way you guys go about this anti opposition thing leads folks to suspect there are hidden agendas out there to do things which will not be accepted to the majority of Nigerians and as such should not be debated in the open, but if it about the development of this country, what is there to be afraid of. Good legislation will however receive multiparty supoort. |
Originalsly:Oga I disagree. I had ear wax removed as a kid when my mum noticed I wasn't hearing well. I tell you, it ranks up there amongst my childhood medical traumas alongside losing a finger nail, toe nail to soccer and dislocating my left knee in military training. If you wish to know what waterboarding torture techniques feels like, it is ear wax removal with warm saline injection flush. Don't know whether it was how the doctor administerwd it but it nearly drove me nuts. No one has advised me to clean my ears since. |
Baloney... self cleaning indeed. I have never seen ear wax fall off anyone's ears but my ear sure itches when I forget to clean it. That is nature saying clearly !! Foreign Matter Detected !!. And to think of it. Why would you allow trapped dort and insects lie in your ear when its not a dustbin. If you can take out your trash every evening why can't you clean your ear at least twice a week and everyday if you work outdoors in the elements or in hazardous environments like some of us. Eat healthy and the wax will be replaced by the body in a couple of hours.... leave it and watch a candle grow out of your head with grave consequences |
Offpoint:Indeed. So who are the cultists, ritualists, rapists, armed robbers... very humane behaviour? |
That is why most things that succeed have to be run on an entirely commercial basis as far as Nigeria is concerned. If those students were charged anytime they use it as a running cost it would not be in that state. No two Nigerians agree on anything including their own hygiene, health and safety. |
