Wallade:Its in a residential neighbourhood and the chaos, noise and inconvenience they cause probsbly attracted the attention of of authorities. That place is supposed to be a quiet neighbourhood. |
No one is sayung the law was broken but the poster should be honest with himself. If he was the owner of the said establishment, will he employ such a fellow into such a position. Is it because the establishment belongs to a faceless person called 'government' which everyone exploits and abuses. This once again brings to the fore the problem and challenges of identifying what the values of Nigerians are and the fact that a nation which cannot simply do what is right, honest and equaitable should in any way, shape or formexpect to progress and develop. If this stands, the next government does same and the next government after that makes it worse, it becomes a culture that totals this country. Its just a pity. |
hope4life:Apple, the most valuable company in the world (I think) have laid off people in the past and will do so when necessary. If the NLNG hasn't in this volatile extractive industry regime then it is not a company but a charity. It is not an achievement but a sign of mismanagement. Another reason why Nigeria gains scant little from its natural resources. |
A very tedious read. Can't understand what the reporter is desperately trying to pass across. Suspect it was translated from French using dodgy software. |
These are situations of double jeopardy. Both sides unfortunately are correct. They rightly feel picking on them when there are no proper institutions is tantamount to victimisation. The in balance in justice and equity is a serious problem so folks like us really have nothing to say. |
plaindealer:Even in societies that work well you will be concerned that the 'Resume' is just poor not to talk about a society that needs emergency surgery. If you were the owner of that institution, will you employ such a person after considering perhaps 5 dozen or so applications? You simply cannot call it change when everything remains the same including the fortunes of that institution after she is done with it. If you find this alright I can imagine the qualifications and experience (aka competencies) of folks who work for you or who you permit to work for you. Stop supporting publicly what you cannot accept personally please. Don't let sentiment ruin your life. |
Yet certain elements up north accused Jonathan of cozing up to creek militants...particularly MEND.... has anything really changed... |
Poverty is a mental condition not a financial one. I am just mystified that the vast majority of Nigerians think throwing money at poverty or at most challenges is the solution. But when you consider a country filled with 200million folks and sitting on vast subsurface resources still wretchedly poor, then it is clear. Proof?....the overwhelming number of replies on this post wonder why she did not 'rent a SHOP' with the sympathy funds raised for her.... as if renting a shop is the way out of poverty. Then when you consider 'Tradermoni', the all encompassing get out of poverty scheme of the governnment, once more it is clear, the vast majority of Nigerians donot know the 'how' of wealth. There is a clear paucity of ideas of how nations build wealth and empower their citizens to prosper. Ideas run the world and the only way out of poverty will be the application of the mind to find solutions. Wothout ideas the woman may have wasted the one million naira donated and in a short time returned to the status quo. So instead of donating money, why not donate education, inspiration, enlightenment and ideas, ideas that require perhaps nothing to implement but will change her outlook permanently. |
All thanks to a certain man called Pep Guardiola who undoubtedly has raised the bar of Premiership soccer to such dizzying heights with his ultra competitive, unrelenting game play. Many other records trail. The triple crown is still in the works for City who may still end up being the most successful Premiership team this season and since the Premiership era in 1996 despite not playing the UCL finals. First time the two top teams will be tallying in excess of 95 points. For Liverpool a potential 97 point tally will have won them the title in all but 2 seasons since 1896. But then without a desire to outgun Pep's team, Liverpool will never have dreamt thoughtless of needed 97 points. Next season could be even more exciting. The quality of coaching across the league and the level of competitivrness is set to rise even further when Leicester's Brendan Rogers goes through a full pre season, Frank Lampard is able to gain promotion as the next exciting young manager and if course the enigmatic Marcelo Bielsa of Leeds United. Clearly the Premiership is custodian to some of the best soccer brains right now and together with massive resouces pouring in through rights and oily arabian investments is set to dominate Europe. Having a clean sweep of the finals will just about do it to attract the best ball juggling talents out there too. Now can owners, referees and the PFA exercise some patience and restraint to ensure the merry boat is not scuttled. |
That is why purposeful, objective relationships are only those that work without stress. Mere emotions are not enough to build lasting, pain free relationships. He did not know how to relate well with her so all he sees is loss. |
Where is all the change promised in this dispensation when an openly corrupt and unrepentant governor wields enough power to alter an institution that has stood for hundreds of years.... and the people cheer.... In other sane climes there will be riots on the streets. Not that I care about tradition but instead charge traditional institutions as great dividers of society but to compare a relatively upright, bold and honest head of an ancient institution with an openly discredited governor whose term does not exceed 48 more months is just absurd. And worst still is the fact that those who supported and cheered him on years ago for exposing graft in government are castigatibg him and cheering a corrupt adversary of him today. How can a society that does not have decent, stable valules expect to generate the kind of cohesion to grow any sort of devepmental ideology. If you support what this unfortunate governor has done you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself especially if you claim to be a supporter of this dispensation which clsims to pride itself in its probity posture..... not that I think shame is a concern of most Nigerians by the way. |
Extremist countries should not he rewarded with tourism driving international sporting competitions. |
pawesome:Don't mind the fellow. You just sit there as a citizen of this country, deteriorating every year yet hiding your head in the sand as to the problems of the country. Other countries identify their challenges and take bold, idea driven actions to solve their challenges. He thinks Germany is doing this for fancy. They know the devastating effects of global warming via fossil fuel burning, the very lifeline of our economy. What is our response.... looking for more oil to sell to people who are planning to back out of oil... and the man is shouting corruption when his future and that of his kids are in jeopardy by the very images he sees.... Let me tell you Mr. Grill or whatever you call youself. The centrist nature of government in Nigeria is reason why corruption can never end and this nation will never develop. When you permit people economic emancipation by restructuring no one will need to be corrupt because no one will need to give anyone anything for anything and there will be no pools of money called allocations from which people steal. That is the way out of corruption. Then we will have ideas like we see coming up because people will turn away from government and depend on themselves to survive and thrive. Siemens is a private company, government is a patron with rights to the roads and highways. They are partners not the master and servant relationships we have in Nigeria between government and its people which breeds corruption. |
Slow and steady we will get here someday soon. God bless Nigeria. This is the amount that was spent to make this technology a reality. In other news, This is the amount that was recovered just in 15 months by EFCC of Nigeria. Imagine how much have been stolen all these long years of our so called DEMOCRACY, by our corrupt politicians. Years of stealing is not corruption! Monies that should have been used to developed every aspect of our nation! Sigh! We rest our case...........for now We dey vex!
Abeg just shut it. How many 77 million dollars has passed through the Ministry of Finance in the past few years and decades since independence and spent on stupid and wasteful, non productive things. You think the problem of Nigeria has ever been money. If you do, your thinkimg must be at best juvenile. This is a nation lacking on ideas of how to solve its basic problems. Blinded because of sentiment and the shackles of ethnicity and religion folks like you milk to your destruction. Now that the EFCC has recovered 98 million let me see the highway that will be electrified for cargo trucks. Just inquire as to the cost of the meagre, substandard infrastructure being built and you will find many, not just one 77 million dollars. Instead of asking the question, what causes corruption and why after 4 years of government hot air the calamity is still raging without any benefit to the country and its citizens whatsoever you are here being typically simplistic. |
9jaRealist:This evening the United Kingdom it is reported to be looking at the prospects of relocating coastal towns. Last week Indonesia anounced it was going to move the capital Jakarta due to uncontrolled subsidence. 4 years is the time limit for halting the progress of global warming and it appears nothing will be accomplished before then so it is clear ocean level rises is inevitable. Stay there and sneer. Na you sabi. Just remember where and when you heard it loud and clear. It will be impossible to live in those places in decades to come. |
Wow..... just wow. Soccer has gone crazy.... |
Mbok, Spurs should call the referee and forfeit this match. I cannot see the point. |
Spurs should apologise to Mancity abeg. This is a mismatch. |
I hope you Lekki, VI and Ikoyi people are watching. This is your destiny. Begin to come to terms with global warming and ocean level rise. |
Cadec007:What is the architectural significance of this building that looks like it was designed by 'Lego Corporation'. I don't think you know what the essence of architecture is. Pleaee don't be carried away by glass panels. Those are made in a factory. Among the best architecture in Abuja (in no particular order) are: Shehu Yaradua Centre, National Mosque, NCC HQ, Millenium Tower (uncompleted) amongst others. High rise office blocks are linear to make them quick and cheap to build. When you start adding abstract shapes and configurations to buildings that require exotic materisls and customised construction methods then you know someone was truly inspired. Nigeran architects like other professionals are not maxing their potentials and not doing enough to inspire excellence. Another reason why Nigeria is not a tourism heavy weight.... lazy architecture. |
Give it to Klopp. Back to back CL finals is no fluke and no mean feat. |
I doff my hat for Klopp. Just speechless.... soccer is just amazing. |
Wow.... |
Good development. Now, may the automobile and allied industry leverage on this to establish and expand capacity and tech transfer and may it spur its competitors to up their game. It is possible. |
BananaTree:I read everything he said but my last paragraph remains valid. The society knows what the Nigeria Police Force is all about and sane folks will know how to avoid and possibly de-escalate situations at least for their lives sake. What I say which you have not understood is simple. It is not up to the police to decide how the society relates with them. They are an institution setup, funded and permitted to operate by the will of society to: 'Serve and Protect' them. You simply donot employ a set of people to protect you and these people begin to set rules and guidance on how you relate with them. I repeat again. The vestages of the colonial era are not lost on most of our institutions today and folks such as you will not permit you to see one basic fact. That: EVERY CIVIL SERVANT IS AT YOUR SERVICE. Even where there are national monarchies such as in the UK where institutions are at the service of 'Her Majesty' they remain at the service of the people. The monarchy is merely a custodian of authority not the operator of authority. You and the better part of society needs to elevate your mentality if this country is to change for the good, failure of which anarchy can potentially break out. I am into business and cannot for the life of me imagine telling my customers (for goods) and clients (for services) how to relate with me as a guarantee for safe and efficient services. They pay my bills. It is I who has to adapt or close shop. I repeat. It is not up to the police to decide how society relates with them. It is up to the police to understand society in its bid to serve and protect them effectively. Police services throughout the world are under pressure to behave with more civility, even in societies with high success rates and best practices thoughtless of ours. Please, no job in the world is easy. No one is having a free ride. We all deal with society to various degrees of danger and peril. But to hide behind a poor culture that blames society for the challenges is just capitulating to failure and once again awakening the debate about the quality of personnel we should permit to handle the sensitive affairs of society going into the future. This present set is fast proving to be woefully incapable of being partners in the development and advancement of this nation. |
The only thing I can advice him and this government is to strap in. The next four years will be more torrid than he will ever imagine. Because the only thing I can assure him is that the problems besetting Nigeria will only grow exponentially of which the first term of four years has shown that they have no idea whatsoever, of how to handle, let alone solve them. |
.... like grabbing him by the balls eh? Don't do this, don't do that.... are we talking about a public service or some revered idol worship. Oga Frank.... I think it will be faster, easier and better to try to reform an organisation than to try and reform the wider society and I think it is the police that has to adapt to the society that the other way round. It is simply colonial era thinking to feel that the police is in anyway superior to the society it is supposed to serve. Every society has nasty, rude and obnoxious folks. It doesn't speak well of any organisation that cannot successfully live above and work through these challenges. Please let us as a society decide amongst ourselves how we will relate with our police. It is not up to you to tell us. Speak to your people. |
Who cares? ....saud enough already... enjoy. |
Just plant trees, period. This is village level stuff. When you cut all the trees down and burn all the vegetation to cultivate crops, this is the result. This doesn't require Federal intervention. Just decent environmental practices. |
Happy people have started waking up to the sinking ship of state. Whether they understand the real problems of Nigeria, and if they have a clue as to what the potential solutions are. |
Bluffly:Okay, since you want to do size jockeying, lets go there. First, why not compare country with country. Why compare Nigeria with a remote wilderness state of the USA. What is the population of Alaska. How many cars drive on Alaskan streets through the year. Let me have my take. Nigeria has a landmass of 356,000 sq kilos, Japan has just 145,000. Our population is 200 million, Japan's is 126 million. They have 18 major, functional, heavy cargo and roro ports and over 100 minor ports (mainly for trawlers and coastal freight). Outside Tincan and Apapa which other port in Nigeria can you say is viable if considered from a commercial standpoint. And I donot refer to Onne because this is trade specific to the oil industry. I know this because I have consulted for a port task force in the past. Apapa and Tincan account for 80 percent of all cargo throughput. Why.? How can a country develop like this. It is like the government directs all international flight through MMA exclusively. What do you think will happen to the cost of doing business. That is why we are not competitive as a country. That is why the needless long queues at Apapa, the gridlock, corruption, appalling infrastructure and wasteful demmurage incured which causes inflation in its own right. Please, apart from fishing and solid minerals Alaska has nothing to offer. Don't you EVER compare Nigeria with Alaska. It is insulting to the long suffering Nigerian citizen that has to put up with one visionless and inept government after another who simply cannot see the need to diverisfy this economy and more importantly the tools of development of which ports and sea transport is key. Weldone, continue in your blind rush to the basement because of parochial, selfish interests. |
I see but you all clamour for 'new minimum wage' that only effectively benefits 5 percent of the population and will raise prices to exploit the remaining 95 percent. You must all pay oh, until you learn how good economies are made. |
